I unlocked the hammer bike it can go 25 I was going to my mom's for dinner yesterday eight miles away and I'm going down a really big hill and you're going 25 downhill you think you'd be going faster but it cuts you down even going downhill. And I know it has more power than that it can go faster than 25 but for me that's way fast enough I need power I want to go camping and Tow loads of wood and camping gear so I can go camping I was surprised you would not believe the amount of wood that I carried on my bike wagon. I probably shouldn't have done it but it did it. I figured my bike would be dead by now I have ridden over 6-in trees going through the woods cuz people put trees in the way I've done a lot of things right through Fields through tractor ruts woodchuck holes it's it is past the test. And what's good about the hammer bike I can still get parts after it's not in warranty they sent me a schematic of the controller I may have to use that someday. The only thing that ever broke on my bike was the crappy kickstand they put them on all the bikes. But it probably wouldn't have broke if I didn't have a load of wood on the back LOL it was only $15 the brakes are hard to find I had to order brakes from Australia last year but I got more of this year from them and rotors and all that stuff flat out which is supposed to be really good better than slime. A place formerly named Bolton e-bikes they have controller packages that fit this to give you a little more power. I don't get paid or anything but I know this man is trustworthy at Area 13 e bikes. I live in New York I ordered tubes from him I had them in 2 days I mean they were shipped immediately. Too bad you got to order from Amazon cuz I don't like that every time you punch in something it comes up Amazon
I truly believe those metal things in the middle of an ebike Trail are very bad what if somebody hits one? We have two giant ones where I live on the ebike trail there's like I don't know 4 ft between them
I sold my Radrover 5 to buy the Rad6 because of satisfaction. The solidity and comfort makes it ideal for all road riding conditions. Just love this ride.
I really appreciate this review - especially the extended trail ride and multiple camera angles. This is the best, most thorough review of this bike I have watched.
Hi I wanted to ask what made you go with the radrover rather than one of the others out there? I’m doing my research and there are so many choices…thanks!
{{3}} Great to see that you're loving the RadRover 6 Plus! It's always exciting to find a new ebike that brings so much joy and satisfaction. Speaking of new ebikes, I recently stumbled upon a groundbreaking crowdfunding project called the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike. It's truly remarkable, with an indoor mode that allows you to charge the bike while cycling indoors! This innovative feature not only provides a convenient way to recharge, but also showcases the bike's versatile nature. The Morph eBike's exceptional power, adjustable technology, and commitment to environmental sustainability make it a remarkable choice for all cycling enthusiasts. Just wanted to share this exciting find with you!
Unlocking the 20mph limit to access the 25mph with 3 buttons! Nice job on your video by the way. One of the best. SO… I just viewed another video this past hour that shared hidden access to 25mph! Acquired with the touch and “hold” of 3 buttons at the same time. Using the left display … hold the “Up and the Down” buttons AND the “Light” button, ALL at the same time for a few seconds, until the new max speed options appear that you can set yourself. Hope this helps you and your viewers. I know it will help me once I’ve made my Rad purchase(s).
You do the best reviews of ebikes. No body else talks about gearing and bike geometry, and ride quality. Most other videos drone on about components and maybe bike finish. All that stuff is easily looked at on retailers web sites. Thanks to you and double 👍 up.
I appreciate the commentary provided with all of your ebike reviews and the excellent videography. Are there more powerful fat tire bikes with bigger battery capacity: yes. Are startup companies flooding the US market with these bikes: yes. Do they have the longevity and support system of Rad: no. If I am putting down $2k for a new bike I want to know that there will be a company to stand behind the bike, to supply quality support, to support older components. I own ebikes. I support the concept of ebikes for recreation and transportation. I prefer to support companies with that philosophy over those in it for the fast buck.
That’s definitely why I emphasize that they are headquartered in the US and the big gorilla in the industry. I don’t personally shy away from the other brands, but I think buyers like you are very wise to think the way you do. You just have to know what you’re really getting for the money, and after-purchase support is an important part of that.
Fast forward to June 2023, rad is having huge layoffs and customer service has taken a serious dive. It’s a bummer I didn’t find this out until I just bought one, as other people in my family have raved about them over the years, and I assembled them all to begin with lol. The parts are of fair quality, which kept prices low, but problems are bound to happen, which was fine when they had customer support. Currently there is NO phone or chat customer service. Luckily, I live near a Red show room, otherwise the major problem I had with my new bike would not have been addressed four weeks, if ever. It’s a damn shame.
Just came across this video. As soon as you started talking I knew who it was...... I have a learned a lot from you...... Thanks for all you have done..........
Thank you so much for such an informative video. I'm in the UK & looking for my 1st e-bike; have only just come across Rad but as it's half the price of other competitors with most e-bikes in cycle shops starting at 2k here, so this has really helped a complete novice. Thanks
I really like this new bike. They have basically upgraded the bike to compete with the Aventon Aventure. I wouldn't buy it without the option to make it a level 3 bike though.
Thanks for this GREAT review and "scenic" commentary. Just now getting into the E bike frenzy. Need to get all the research in before dropping a lot of $$$ on 2 of these. Like you - I'm 62 and don't need faster, faster, faster..... just an over all decent bike adventure. A little "assist" on climbs and hills when needed. I'm down to a decision on this one and one other (Murf - they have a 2yr warranty and 52v battery ). Plus & minus on both brands.
If you haven’t already bought, you might look at the Bolton Avenger. I’m 73 and recently bought one. Has a great battery and color monitor at a very fair price.it’s foldable and at least 10 lbs lighter. The motor is lower wattage but goes 20 mph easily on a flat surface and I’m around 190.They make a similar model that’s full step through. I’ve been very satisfied. Oh yeah-comes fully assembled except for the monitor. One of the reasons I went with a folding bike was to avoid the roughly $500 for a bike rack that supports this weight . I also like the security factor of keeping it locked in my vehicle. Hope this was of interest.
Thank you very much for that informational video. I own a new Rad 5 and was looking for an excuse to upgrade but it is a difficult decision. That being said, I have encouraged friends of mine to put out the extra money and go for the 6. Thanks again.
I would save your money to see what they come out with next year. This is just the very start for what Rad’s design team is doing with a new infusion of cash from investors. I have no insider knowledge, but I know what this means for them regardless.
I have watched several different reviews of yours of various ebikes and I must commend you for your excellent work. Reviews are thorough, insightful and cover how certain tech or features relate to what you or another user would experience when riding. Very helpful. Thank you for for such great reviews!
I made videos for both channels at the same time for a bit, but due to family medical stuff, I just can't get to the range enough to keep up with TWANGnBANG. This channel allows me to continue making videos mainly at home or doing the things I'm already doing daily.
dose the OUXI V8 in your consideration? I'm sales from OUXI brand.V8 in stocked in CA now,the spec is 750w/48v 15ah /20x4 fattire / 7 speed gear . if you're interested,I can show you more details about V8
I've had my Rad Rover 5 now for about 3 years with well over 3,000 miles. I had 2 flat tires in a row just this year so thought it was time to update. I just bought the Rad Rover 6 Plus featured here in you video brand new and it is still in it's box unopened. Before it arrived I got the flat tires fixed on the Rad Rover 5 and it seems to be working well. Now that it is almost September and we are getting some significant rain with muddy rail trails I have only been riding the Rad Rover 5 and have left the 6 plus brand new and left in the unopened box in the garage because I don't want to get this bike dirty like my 5 is now. My question is: Is it ok to just leave the unopened Rad Rover 6 Plus brand new in it's box and just wait until spring time next year to open it and will it be ok - or do I need to open the box before the winter comes and take (THE BATTERY) inside the house ? WE have an unheated garage and I live in Southeastern Michigan where during January and February the nights can get down between 0 - 15 degrees and daytime high's between 20-35 degrees for 2 months straight. Would the cold damage the battery ?
Legally most places allow 28mph when it's pedal assist and 20mph full electric without a license. There are plenty of videos that will show you how to up the max to 25mph on the stock model. I've been riding an ebike since 2015, often commuting 32miles round trip to work. If you follow the rules of the road it is highly unlikely police will stop you, much less dig into your electronic settings to check 28mph max. For example, the famous Bafang BBS02 mid motor allows the user to up the e assist to 32mph. 25mph assist will be plenty if you are using it to commute or go on the roads. Read up on the energy vs additional speed after 18mph. Going any faster without fat wheels and a suspension on mixed terrian won't be safe anyhow, much less with traffic.
Not understanding why they wouldn't boost the batyery amp to at least 19 like juiced bikes. You can get the juiced ripcurrent s for 2200 and more discount if you are military and it has 70+ mi range compared to the 45 on the rover plus. Would you recommend the ripcurrent s over plus if they were the same price at 2k?
The RipCurrent S has a much larger motor, much larger battery, 52V electrical system, fully hydraulic brakes, torque sensing PAS, trigger shifter, super bright headlight… They will never be the same price because the RipCurrent S has much more expensive components.
Apparently by pressing both the up and down on pedal assist, while simultaneously pressing the light button - you can adjust the factory setting from 32 kmh (20mph) to 40 kmh (25mph) on throttle only. ruclips.net/video/0z6VF2LzUD8/видео.html
Hello and thanks. Before purchasing the RadRover 6 Plus can you please advise, will the currently sold RadRover 6 Plus still allow the customer to re-program the LCD to increase the top speed to 25 MPH and how will the fat tires ride primarily on concrete and asphalt ? Thanks and I'll use your linky for the purchase.
Others have shown how to get to the max speed setting in the RadRover 6 Plus, but I have not tried it. The fat tires are totally fine for concrete and asphalt.
One correction that I would like to point out is that all tools required for assembly are NOT included (4.28-minute mark). I was a little disappointed to find out that I needed to spend another $40 for a torque wrench and $18 for a pedal wrench. I'm sure some people will just hand tighten to what "feels" right to them but I am detail oriented and want to make sure the bike is assembled to manufacturer specs.
Hi Pat I wanted to ask what made you go with the radrover rather than one of the others out there? I’m doing my research and there are so many choices…thanks!
@@bernievassallo3336honestly, it was the price. I was on the fence between the Aventon and the Rad. Rad had a sale going on that tipped the scale in their favor. So far, I have no regrets but after finally seeing an Aventon in person, I really like that bike too
I ordered my ebike Rad Rover 6 plus and a back rack 2 months ago and still haven't received them apparently due to covid 19 it has been delayed. My bike was originally supposed to arrive by no later than Oct. 18 th.
Hi I wanted to ask what made you go with the radrover rather than one of the others out there? I’m doing my research and there are so many choices…thanks! Oh do you have the two display model
Great review, looking forward to ordering soon, thanks for the info. In Canada they sell the 6plus as a 500 watt motor, do you know if that is just a controller setting?
very nice review. A couple of ?'s . The hill you week up, what grade % was it. And you mentioned about not having after market controller possibility as with the 5. How does that limit things?. Btw, beautiful trail your riding
I have no idea what % grade anything is. A small but very enthusiastic percentage of ebike owners like to modify their ebikes for more power, and an aftermarket controller is one way to do it. It of course voids your warranty and increases your risk of damage to your motor, but some are fine with those risks. As I mention in the video, I’m not one of those people, but I do understand the appeal. Thanks for watching!
I bought these bikes last November and it has been a total nightmare. Customer service has been responsive in the fact that they have given me a couple of laundry lists of things to do in order to fix the problem I have (bike won't power up), none of which have worked. They have sent me a couple of parts to swap out but that hasn't fixed it either. I know it's a product issue and not an assembly matter. I took the bike in the box to my local bike shop for assembly since I didn't want any issues and thought a pro would be the best way to go. I purchased 2 of these bikes and although one has worked perfectly, one hasn't been able to be fixed. Over three months in and I have yet to be able to ride this thing. Very disappointed! I purchased these bikes and the Hollywood rack for my motorhome to use while on vacation so we wouldn't have to have a car. That would have been a good plan had it worked.
Thanks for your video - Question does the RadCity 5 Plus or the Radrover 6 have the Tannus Armour already installed when the bike is purchased new from Rad ? Thanks
Hello - Question - The 5 Plus vs the 6 plus are the same price online. Will Rad provide 6 Plus a tire size 2 inches vs 4 inches, NON-Fat tires ? Thanks
Full assembly, including tires, is done at the factory in China. There are no substitutions before you get the bike, but you can switch from 4" to 2" tires yourself.
Agreed. Last year I bought the Ride1Up 5 Series and was able to unlock it to be a Class 3. I'm really tempted to buy the Rad while it's currently on sale, but I'm concerned about being limited to 20mph with PAS.
This bike looks beautiful and I really wanted it, but living in Japan theirs a 250w restriction, 24km/h limit, and if it has a throttle it has to be regestered as a motorcycle. Destroyed my dreams for my first e bike, so back to the drawing board for me to find my first e bike,.
to be fair to customer service they seem to be replacing parts/bits at no cost. Even the post about no answer from CS, in the thread then said Rad eventually decided to ship them a battery.
So, I have been looking around for a place to purchase the 5...unable to find anyone able to answer a phone call. Been trying to reach anyone for the past 5 days.... Was wandering if you knew anyplace that has a 5 in stock. Im assuming they are not manufacturing this model anymore. Which is a bummer. I don't want the 6.. Thanks for any help.
Any bike, two-wheeled vehicle, from a huge motorcycle to a conventional bicycle, is dangerous on a mixed vehicular road. The faster is goes, the greater the danger, but even the pedaled bicycle is very risky on a share-the-road, city street. In my city, St Petersburg, FL, where many housing developers have been permitted to build without providing sidewalks, there an additional danger where sidewalks exist. The danger comes from the trees whose roots are at or below the soil's surface and break through sidewalks or simply raise them, creating major discontinuities. Bicyclers often have no choice but to share-the-road, drivers permitting. To spend close to two-thousand dollars on an electric bike under such conditions is insane. Maybe in a sparsely populated suburb - if there are any - or in a rural area! In a city, even one without snow in the winter? Lunacy!
Great review! The bike would be a no for me. No sizing choice for really tall or short riders. That shifter and derailleur...bottom shelf. Class 2? The Aventon Aventure is the same price with far better specs on components, a choice in sizing, and it will easily achieve speeds in excess of 30 MPH. RAD has the name and the fame. That's why they sell so many bikes. There are far better options these days.
The Step-Thru version would be a much better choice. However, even though you’ll be able to adjust the bike for your size, you might still find it a lot to handle because of the weight.
I think the Lectric XP 2.0 is about as easy to handle as an ebike is going to get. It is still very heavy, but you can adjust it pretty well for smaller riders. Check out my review here: ruclips.net/video/A-_DsNQSqF4/видео.html
@@thenateoutdoors1813 biktrix , himmiway , Aventon among many. Rad is not really giving most people what they really want. I myself have owned 3 Rad's and now down to 2 , but want to sell them as well just because not liking them cause of their sluggish pick up and lackluster hill climbing ability
"Dual Display"... But why? Its not hard AT ALL to put the two numbers on... wait for it... wait for it... ONE actually decent LCD display. There are many popular EBike LCD displays that do this. It isn't hard.
Nearly all ebikes shipped in the US are set to either Class 1 or Class 2 regulations, which limits motor assist to 20mph. Most also allow you to change that, though Rad certainly made it more difficult than they needed to to change the limit on this bike
Nope. Why would I? Family stuff just means I can't get to the range to keep up testing new stuff. That doesn't mean I am somehow completely done with firearms. lol
Only whimps don't like fast ebikes. Lots of whimps in the world and I am not singling you out. You I am sure have never driven a 1 liter sport bike motorcycle with 150 ho that will do freeway speeds in 1st gear or a 500 hp car. I build ebikes up to 4000 watts. Only way I would own a Rad 6 Plus is with a custom controller which is a low cost upgrade. This would increase top speed to 30 mph which makes you 'safer' out on the road when riding around cars. Conservation of momentum aka crash dynamics...large fast object colliding with slow low mass object. I worked with NHSTA and am a mechanical engineer.
I've downhilled at over 50mph on a triathlon bike in aerobars. No brakes. I'm not impressed with any speed you've experienced on Z-rated tires, with a motor providing the power, and three disc brakes available to stop you. lol
I have the new 6 step through. I've had to replace the motor controller 3 times . This bike has a very small conventional front axle which can come loose from the quick release arm contacting the brake rotor. Also the frame geometry leads to a death wobble. The bike will go anywhere but it may also leave you stranded. I will not be buying another rad bike because this product is dangerous and unreliable.
Never trust a full review by anyone that is sponsored by the manufacturer or get their stuff for FREEEEEEE..Their just pushing their product on to you..
You are so wrong about the speed evidently you do not know how to make it do 34 mi an hour that's for sure. Yes it is capable of that just by using three buttons on the left controller
Number one selling. Says who? You? I wouldn't waste a dollar on one of these junk bikes. They have no customer service, don't honor warranties, and have been known to sell faulty controllers out of the box. Their customer service is a scam. They make you buy a new bike rather than help sell replacement parts. #SarahR.

I want this bike but throttle stops at 20mph, correct?

So far, I have no regrets but after finally seeing an Aventon in person, I really like that bike too
Can you please tell me the size of the front bike wheel skewer..
I love this bike, received mine 2 weeks ago!!
Great to hear!
I’m sure it’s the same motor, different settings. That’s the way all Rads are in Canada, per your ebike regulations.
very nice review.
@@TheTechofTech thanks
Given the choice between this bike and the Juiced Ripcurrent (step thru), which one do you prefer?
The RipCurrent has a more powerful motor, better fork, huge battery, and torque-sensing PAS. It’s definitely my choice if money weren’t an issue.
@@TheTechofTech Thank you
Thanks for your video - Question does the RadCity 5 Plus or the Radrover 6 have the Tannus Armour already installed when the bike is purchased new from Rad ? Thanks
I know of no ebikes that have Tannus Armour pre-installed from the factory.
@@TheTechofTech thanks
Hello - Question - The 5 Plus vs the 6 plus are the same price online. Will Rad provide 6 Plus a tire size 2 inches vs 4 inches, NON-Fat tires ? Thanks
Full assembly, including tires, is done at the factory in China. There are no substitutions before you get the bike, but you can switch from 4" to 2" tires yourself.
@@TheTechofTech 2" tires on 4" rims? hmmm...
I enjoyed your review.
Thank you!
In Canada the legal maximum allowed is 500 watts. The fastest here is 32 km / per. hr.
Yep. That stinks.
Can you please make a video on connecting this bike to a Thule chariot bicycle trailer?
I don’t have one and do not see myself getting one. You should check with the Rad forums. Somebody certain can help you there.
Looks like a solid offering. For me I would prefer a Class 3 setup. Just my preference.
Great review 👍
Thanks so much!
Please do a review on the riser x
How tall are you? I am 5'7" and I'm not sure if I need the step through model or not. I do like the look of the other model better.
5’8” with 30” inseam.
Lucky you! It would seem yours didn't pack up after 18 miles like may others 🤯.
Wow. I'm a member of a few Rad forums, and I haven't seen that at all. Strange.
to be fair to customer service they seem to be replacing parts/bits at no cost. Even the post about no answer from CS, in the thread then said Rad eventually decided to ship them a battery.
@@xxxenricop what issue or issues are you seeing?
So, I have been looking around for a place to purchase the 5...unable to find anyone able to answer a phone call. Been trying to reach anyone for the past 5 days....
Was wandering if you knew anyplace that has a 5 in stock. Im assuming they are not manufacturing this model anymore. Which is a bummer. I don't want the 6..
Thanks for any help.
Im selling a rad rover 5
I'll sell you my 6. Brand new! For less than half price
You can consider our OUXI V8,they're in stocked, fully waterproof. the spec is 750w / 48v / 15ah /20X4 fattire / 7 speed gear/
A Himaway ad popped up during this video.
How does the aventon do in snow and ice
If you're sticking a key into the charge port maybe it's best you don't own an e-bike. Pro tip: Don't lick the wall socket...
Ummm…a technical guy. Ill never know a bike so well. But i still love ebikes. I do wonder about them on trails. They could be a hazard.
No more hazardous than non-electric bikes. In fact, the fastest bikes on the trails I ride are guys bombing non-ebikes all over the place.
RAD bikes get awful reviews on many RUclips channels… I know because I’ve watched many many videos to try and help me decide on which E bike to buy..
I am 5'1 small frame woman, is this too big for me?
The Step-Thru version would be a much better choice. However, even though you’ll be able to adjust the bike for your size, you might still find it a lot to handle because of the weight.
please suggest the best step through for a small woman, also over 65!!!!@@TheTechofTech
I think the Lectric XP 2.0 is about as easy to handle as an ebike is going to get. It is still very heavy, but you can adjust it pretty well for smaller riders. Check out my review here: ruclips.net/video/A-_DsNQSqF4/видео.html
other companies are making better products with cheaper price. 10 years down the road RAD will still be tweaking their products
What're your recommendations?
@@thenateoutdoors1813 biktrix , himmiway , Aventon among many. Rad is not really giving most people what they really want. I myself have owned 3 Rad's and now down to 2 , but want to sell them as well just because not liking them cause of their sluggish pick up and lackluster hill climbing ability
"Dual Display"... But why? Its not hard AT ALL to put the two numbers on... wait for it... wait for it... ONE actually decent LCD display. There are many popular EBike LCD displays that do this. It isn't hard.
How come you've never say the price
Because it changes over time. Current price is always linked in the description and pinned in the comments.
I want one
The music is quite distracting
I wouldn't buy it because of the 20mph limit. That is lower than most any other e-bike.
Edit: Apparently you CAN change the speed to 25mph!!
Nearly all ebikes shipped in the US are set to either Class 1 or Class 2 regulations, which limits motor assist to 20mph. Most also allow you to change that, though Rad certainly made it more difficult than they needed to to change the limit on this bike
Rizer x
Sold the guns?
Nope. Why would I? Family stuff just means I can't get to the range to keep up testing new stuff. That doesn't mean I am somehow completely done with firearms. lol
@@TheTechofTech ; ) aha good to hear. kinda missed your vids! Grtz from Europe 🇳🇱
You can buy a Honda 250cc dirt bike for the same price, ebikes are crazy expensive
Ride the Himiway Cruiser before you buy.
modern moped
Way less powerful and slower, though. Also, a lot more comfortable to pedal when that’s what you want to do.
No brakes. I'm not impressed with any speed you've experienced on Z-rated tires, with a motor providing the power, and three disc brakes available to stop you. lol

My
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s sad that Rad motors are always so weak.
Background music very annoying
I'm not watching this video because Rad sez their bikes are 750 watt when they are only 500 continuous. Such a lie they tell.
Number one selling. Says who? You? I wouldn't waste a dollar on one of these junk bikes. They have no customer service, don't honor warranties, and have been known to sell faulty controllers out of the box. Their customer service is a scam. They make you buy a new bike rather than help sell replacement parts. #SarahR.
