- I've been wanting to fish this dream lake for YEARS... but are the fishing stories true? I spend a few days trying to uncover the secrets of this hardly-ever fished holiday park lake, and try to catch something huge. Pike fishing, especially lure fishing, is great fun and I've not been doing enough of it lately. Time to dust off the gear and see what we can catch!

The fish sometimes go into shock when you set the hook it’s best to net them before they wake up it can happen with other types of fish aswell

Great video, I think I'm slowly progressing in to a miserable old sod as it was all just to enthusiastic for me. I mean I wouldn't have been shocked if when you almost slipped over, you turned and said it was the most amazing awesome way you'd ever almost slipped over....

I'm sure there's some great big pike in there. You dropped a clanger with that pike though. You have to grab it while you can. You live and learn. Looked a great cabin to chill out in though. cheers

Always wondered about that place George when driving past. Water quality looked outstanding, bit like the stamp of pike.

Honestly think you need a net with a longer handle, you would have had that pike, you only fannied about cause it was just out of reach.👍
Yeah the water clarity was unbelievable I think it used to be a quarry. Rigged and ready rod is a great bit of kit too! Thanks for watching and yeah I definitely need to upgrade the net!

I think ull find the Syrup is for the carp I used it with banoffee it's like crack to them n the lures where perfect n known for catching decent pike great video

we stay here twice a year and will be going again in may! we started fishing the lake last year as my lad had started watching your videos and wanted to give fishing a try, didn't catch anything but your vid has given us hopes for this year! 👍🏻😊

i fished there frequently about fifeteen years ago with a good friend who is no longer with us... i have seen fish 30+ in the shallows!!! there are also a few kittys in there too...
I've heard of a low 20 or two coming out over the years but never a 30, there's definitely a chance there could still be a fish like that in there though! Thanks for watching!

It was a crying shame when they stopped selling day tickets on there. A lad that used to own a local tackle shop fished it regularly and he said the pike ran to 20lb +. I fished it once ( blanked) but the Perch I saw were a decent size, wish I'd fished it a bit more as it's only a mile from me.
I bet, I wish I could fish it more too. I’ll have to get another holiday planned sometime!!
There will be big Perch in there Im quite sure ... I wasnt expecting a golden shower though.

That place used to be amazing in the 80s, huge roach, perch, trout, i had a 3.5 perch there, you should still be allowed to fish day ticket as it was in the original planning permission, also the bottom end should have a large cordoned off area as a nature reserve, that didn't last long.
Unfortunately it’s not a day ticket anymore, unless you’re staying there. I wish it was though! I believe it used to be a trout fishery was it?
The Tilcon workers used to rear rainbows there in pens while they were still extracting gravel, me old fella worked for them, then there was a big canal leak at capenwray and the Keer was filled with coarse fish and that links into there, was a big weed bank on the A6 side and you could float fish for huge roach, there was also plenty of wild brownies, you'd have to get the council involved to insist on day ticket if they refuse as it was written into planning along with the nature reserve, i was allowed on when i quoted this years ago but told to keep quiet, i had a letter printed in the visitor when we were thrown off and they had to let us back on the far bank, that place was out of this world.@@adventurefishinguk

That happened to me with a big salmon years ago. I was river trout fishing from a high bank with a Mepps spinner and didnt have a landing net and lost a fish of a lifetime it spat the lure when i was lying on my belly trying to tail it. I was traumatised 😅😅
Haha that's a shame, happens to the best of us though doesn't it. Every angler needs to have a few 'the one that got away' stories!

The big pile are 2 to 3 feet off the drop of sitting there dormant covered in leechs getting ready for spawning.
Good point, the ones I caught didn't seem to have leaches. Maybe a few weeks off spawning time still!
So fishing ... old guy here, it's not about the landing. A lot that I catch, even eaters, when I've had my excitement and enough for a meal, I just un hook in the water, yes it's nice to have the odd one in the hand ... but you caught it fair and square? I love bait casters, they are small, compact, light and strong. I would love to know where this is? When I am let off the leash by SWMBO we go to a chalet park on Loch Linnhe, just on the narrows where Lock Eil starts. Since I was 12, 40 odd years ago? It's the sea so fly for sea trout or a bit of the bottom for some red cod. But I am always looking to break up the journey now as I get older? This looks a fine place?
Yeah I agree it is more about being outside and enjoying nature! Personally I don’t count a fish as caught normally until it’s in the net 👍 great fun to cross paths with a big fish like that regardless though and it’s a lesson! Unfortunately I’m not able to say the name of the place publicly in case people go and fish it without proper permission 👍

Proper fannied about 😂 was a belter that. Get ya drag set abit slacker when you have a fish that close lad. Soon as it's at ya feet get it scooped up... it sat looking at ya for 5 mins 😅 great video

I lost my biggest pike last year this one must have been 10kg+ no doubt have a strong rod tip and was dead baiting with it and never have got anything that strong on my line and the wire (dont know english name) but it was 15kg strong, was using a roach about 10-15cm and 7 small floating balls Brighg colors and a weight 20g and line 30cm and the bait was floating in the water works very good! But i know There are monster pike in there saw one take a swan 🦢 2 weeks ago when was baitfishing but this lake is 10km long and 27m as deepest
A shame you lost that big one! I’ve never heard of a pike taking a swan before that must be quite rare 👍
Any reason you have the drag on the reel so tight?
