- Alex Murdaugh’s co-conspirator, Cory Fleming, was sentenced to 20 years in state prison on Thursday nearly one month after pleading guilty to his financial crimes. Fleming helped Murdaugh steal millions of dollars from civil lawsuit settlements, including the family of Gloria Satterfield.

Just an incredible, honorable and fair man you are Judge Newman. A class act. There was not a day you presided over the Alex Murdaugh trial I was not in awe of you. Once again, my sincerest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your son.

The best sentencing was watching him correct the mother of N. Rowland (see SC v. Rowland). After watching that case, gavel to gavel, I could see why he is the kind of judge he is. Such a dark case and that mother at the end was a sad display of naïveté. Newman was firm and knew that the young man was guilty and the mother was loony!!!

Excellent judge. He seems to both have a heart, and a no-nonsense attitude. Constantly getting close to one terrible situation and moving to the next must be tough.

Judge Newman is the best. A total of 24 years - 4 years in Federal prison followed by 20 years in State.
Why did he only get 4 years in federal prison?
@@Beltfedshooters Not sure but I think it has to do with what the charge is, some charges are different from others and carry different sentencing, that's what I think.
How long will he serve tho is it 3 quarters or half?
@@marcust123 In federal court you will have to serve 85% of your sentence if convicted of federal charges. However, for most state felony convictions, you will only serve 50% of your actual sentence.

God bless this man. How he was able to oversee the murder trial of a father that shot his own son in cold blood after losing his own son just months before from a heart attack is beyond me. Just a very wise soul.

Losing his son during a very difficult, excruciating, and public trial and Presiding over related financial cases while maintaining the upmost integrity, wisdom, and honor during that entire process and now speaking knowledge and wisdom to his own disgraced colleagues....An HONORABLE, REASONABLE, and JUST Man!!! This judge is without a doubt, the best judge I've ever seen. He thinks before he speaks, is fair and just. His sentencing is served with strength and compassion. What an incredible human being. Thank you, Judge Newman for your service!

What they did to the Satterfield family is unconscionable. Those young men had hardly any means to make money and they had NO money to live on. This man and Alec DID NOT CARE. Thought of those young men as disposable.
From what I understand, the boys owed 3k; couldn't pay, and got evicted from the trailer.
I thought I had heard somewhere that they owed 16k to own it. Alec couldn't even give them that and stood buy while they were evicted! @@cherylmosley797

What shocks me is how safe and above the law those guys must have felt to commit all this over such a long amount of time.

SCOTUS appointments don’t have age/ time limitations. Furthermore, at-large judges rarely have a shot on the highest court in the U.S. unfortunately, .I think both are great-Thomas & Newman. I’ve actually met Newman at a USC football game. He’s just as friendly in person as he is on the bench.

I love it when this judge tells it like it is to these South Carolina “good old boys”. Harsh, severe, punishments and sentences are handed out more often than not (to the poor, powerless, and “morally defective”). The judge was 100% correct when he said “you must suffer the consequences”.
For His Lawyer to only to want him to get 48 months is bind blowing.

Justice Clarence Thomas obviously opened Pandora's box on Judicial ethics and the Compliance, and code of conduct issues, this then led to Justices Brett Kavanagh, John Roberts, Neil Gorsuch, and Samuel Alito, with their real estate and other very iffy legal transactions being looked into, Yes a new code of ethics legislation came out of the Senate Judiciary hearing bringing is Ethics Recusal for conflicts of interest. The donation from sponsors' businesses, is the cancer that exists within the whole core of US Law government and Law Makers, its bare faced bribery what does that have to do with Democratic process in the votes for Cash Lobbying to make sure wide spread Gun Reform never happens on the Republican side of the Senate Floor. one Republican Mitt Romney receiving $13.6 million dollars over the yearsfrom the NRA I digress but American Politics and its Law system in general is in tatters, and with some of the Judgements being made by men and women that are a law unto themselves , and because of the total failure of Merrick Garland to imprison Trump in 2021, That should have been his first task. *Edit: Honorable Newman is retiring the end of the year (mandatory retirement - age). I highly doubt there is anyone that will be able to fill his shoes. The man is remarkable!*
