My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Hello there Matt! I love to tell you, I would rather watch you for 30 minutes an hour whatever......than comedians that make a living doing just that. In less than 4 minutes into your vlog you have me laughing out loud with tears. Making a very long day worth it knowing I will get that guilty pleasure(dont think so) in 3...2...1.

I have 10 cats & am determined to find a way to be able to keep them & live w/me in my van…please no negative comments about how it’s not possible..
My cats are my children, my family, they are everything to me so if they don’t go w/me… I don’t wanna say but it wouldn’t be a good outcome.
I have to binge watch your videos to see how you built out your van to accommodate your cats (they are beautiful btw.🐾💖💋).

Hi Matthew, Birmingham AL here. When they predict flurries here, the store shelves empty of milk and bread and some of us sit up all night praying for a few flakes!! Loved the driving in the snow footage and all the laughs you inflict upon me. :-)
This is a waaaaaaay different youtube channel than I'm used to watching concerning van life. Usually I watch retired women (or men) living in vans in USA. Quartzsite et al. Butane not propane. Small dogs and maybe 1 cat. Build outs or not. And soooo organized that I don't think I could never be so organized.
So. This channel will be very interesting indeedy. Thank-you for your van life in Canada in winter. Because I never have seen that so far other than one other guy in BC. This is more along what I need to see.

The company I work for went remote during the Pandemic ..so we didn’t renew our lease when it was up. We now have a business address via the UPS store as well. It’s amazing how remote things have become. Who woulda thought?…. BTW that coffee pod holder is great….I had one on which I had my Keurig & electric Kettle which I had on top of my mini refrigerator 😂😂😂😂😂Levels are definitely key!

Currently live north of Edmonton, but 64yrs in Ontario and I can honestly say that the amount of snow that Alberta receives in a winter is what My hometown would get in a snowfall. Figure out the driving or stay home people. It’s not that hard. I enjoy it myself but I’ve been told I’m a little crazy 😅

Matt, I ❤ how you make it work living in a van, but it's just not for me because I love my daily showers and nice roomy kitchen with a stove and fridge. You are such a competent van lifer to make it work for yourself. Keep it up, Matt. Love your attitude. Love your videos. 😊

Hey Matthew, try adjusting the fan in your heater. Pop the case off, really easy, then use a screwdriver to pull the fan out just a touch and it will stop rubbing. 💙🐰💙
Hey Matt get yourself a screw on camp stove for $12.00 on Amazon that uses small propane butane $6.00 at Walmart, and a large tin cup,mines red black speck I've had for years. Open up a can pour it in,takes maybe 2 minutes. It's quick easy no big set up. I have coffee quick in the morning,and it also lets out some warmth. No big luggievstove. Easy peezy.
I have a Jetboil Java 😁 same thing but again I think I have just gotten used to the cold meals
id be curious to try that life style in north ontario... imagine living in a van for 2 or 3 years while the house is rented by someone else....

When you put your cereal in the bag, if you keep it in it's original bag and place it in the sealed bag it won't dirty the other bag and will still work and then you can reuse it for the next one etc., etc., lol!
It’s not easy living in a van,I’m seeing. Coffee tray was a nice present. I can’t believe how dark it is in the middle of your day ,when snowing. I come from Sunny Queensland, Australia, only thunderstorms & rain & heat at the moment. Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.

We don’t get snow here in Sydney Australia so it’s interesting to see it. You can drive for 4 hours or more to see snow but in Sydney district…no snow in winter. We do get heatwaves in summer and thunderstorms

Use a piece of Velcro to hold the drawer closed. Pretty sure you have some floating around in the house somewhere. Cut a piece for the top, a piece for the drawer, and a solid piece for a strap. Shouldn’t have to be big either. 😊

I love snow, but only on TV, films and Christmas cards 😁 I once got an offer of sponsorship from my cousin to go and work in Canada , but I turned it down as I didn't think I could take the winters 🥶. Vancouver is probably the only place I would consider 😊

I saw a carlifer buy a 2 portion George Foreman grill to use inside and out of her car.
She used it to heat and make grill marks on chicken. The second time it was raining out and she wanted toast, so she proped up the grill in her front seat and made her yummy toast.
She is in the U.S. and got it at Walmart for $20. I looked online in Walmart Canada and it is $32.
I tried to find out the voltage but all i found wss someone commenting that it is probably like a toaster.
This seems like something that would make life quicker and easier! I have a friend that cooks everything on her full sized grill.
I figured I'd pass the info along since there are many things you can do with it. It is eeasier than the propane stove and it can be stored upright to not take up much space.
I am a peanutbutter lover. I could almost live on it.. lol.

It looks so beautiful in Calgary with snow! I live in Florida so we never get snow and it sucks! When you’ve lived in the southern part of the United States all your life not really getting 4 seasons gets old. Velcro the Kcup drawer also. Start from the top and make the bottom velcro on the face of the drawer. Sorry Mathew, little tired this evening. I just purchased that usb magnetic light bar as I will not have any other power source for awhile. My bed is Haft build I can't wait to get back out #part-timevanlife, I'm in a bad state of cabin fever. Doesn't help I've been sick for the past two weeks 🤧. 😂Low roof I liked that one you see I'm short shouldn't have that problem, some pros to being short 😊. Great video

I have one of those holders too, I love it, mine goes under my coffee machine.
Hey Matt, me again...😉. My heater is always on the lowest setting 1.6Hz. All 6 bars are always there. I just ran it through the settings to see if it would change. It doesn't.. I bought the 5kw heater, wishing I had bought the 2kw because it cooks me out. Never had a problem when turning it off the pump stops but everything stays running to burn off the fuel. 💙🐰💙
