@FordTechMakuloco can you make a video of how to get a broken dipstick out of the 2012 F150 5.0 seeing as it goes straight into the side of the engine instead of a separate tube
@FordTechMakuloco. Do you have a link for the upper and lower radiator hoses? My buddy wants to do all those and the y pipe on his 5.0 and I can't find Motorcraft hoses.

Great job and keep up the good work...thousands use them to "figure stuff out".....we thank you.
I can't thank this guy enough for all the instructional videos. I have built engines and made all kinds of repairs using these tutorials. I know I have saved thousands of dollars repairing my Fords myself, and I know it's done right.
Thank you for the instructions. It took me about 90 minutes to change out the Y pipe and clean the throttle body. (Many more hours if you count lying in bed the night before rehearsing the repair.)
Watched video 2x and followed the steps you give, and even was brave enough to take throttle body off and cleaned it too. Everything went real great. Thanks for instructions. BTW to others- it took me 2 hours from start to finish.

I had to remove the complete dash to change two nylon bushings on the clutch pedal!!! Fast forward some 35 yrs, ALWAYS worked on my own stuff and here I am with my 2014 F150 5.0. Always bought new fords and learned as I go. We are a long way from carbs and 5/16 hose clamps. Well….here I am again. 203506 miles on same 2014 F150 5.0 and I am smelling antifreeze for about a week now. Couldn’t find anything but the level was obviously going down. Weekend came and I pulled the air intake apart to access water pump area (replaced at 75000). Nothing to see. Wiped my finger around the clamp on the thermostat and there it was. Leaking on the back side. I came in and jumped right on this channel and of course, he has the perfect video. Ordered parts from his channel and will be replacing all next weekend. Thanks again.

Thanks. I bought a used 2014 F150 XLT with the 5.0 released from a fleet leasing company which overall runs great. Love having a truck again. Your videos really help before, as in the purge valve causing stall issues with no check engine error codes. Your video prevented me from chasing my tail or having to the Ford dealer who would chase their tails across my wallet. What a simple fix, thank you. I currently smell traces coolant when I park the truck after a it's warmed up. Only about a half a cup every couple weeks but don't see leaks, nor have overheating issues. But I smell it. Now with this video I know actually where to look for possible leaks since currently I can't not spot one. Going to watch your throttle body cleaning video, looking forward to that piece of knowledge shared to all of us out here. Thank you!!!
I watched this video some time back and sure enough, my 2016 5.0 F150 now has the same leak...parts are still the same on Amazon...you saved me hundreds of dollars...Thank you for the info...
My plan was to replace the O-rings only - after viewing this video I decided to buy the Y-pipe and all of the other recommended parts. Thanks again for your great content. Ethan 2013 F-150 / 5.0
I just finished doing this job. Went very smooth and your video was spot on. Burped system like said and nice heat flowing in cab at idle. Thank you brother!
Another video that I have nothing in common with, BUT because its you just making informative automotive videos I watch them. Thanks for your hard work bro!💯
I just replaced the water pump and tee and the o-rings and I'll be #@####@# if it's not leaking again just 2 years later! Thanks for the refresher course. You're always spot-on !!!
The content of your videos and the information you give are fantastic. It was through one of your videos that you mentioned a recall on the Taurus, Edge etc. for the rear toe link. I called my dealer here in Ontario to find out about it. I gave them the recall # and my service guy said he wasn't aware of it but within a week he called with an appointment for the recall. Thanks, it's all due to your videos that I knew about it.
I just completed that same project today thank you so much for the RUclips video. I watched it two or three times just to make sure I was doing everything right thanks to people like you. I only had to do it once.✅
Thanks for video, will be doing this on my '14 coyote F150 with 127K today. Found the puddle yesterday morning and was able to hit the dealer parts counter before they closed at noon.
Excellent video took me about 30 minutes plus fill and warm up time. Draining from the bottom of rad meant no spillage at all so belts were fine. Vehicle was completely cold I did cover belt area with rags. nice easy job. 2011 F150 5l
Thank you for the video. Another COMMON problem with my FORD. I was almost Found On Road Dead today. This video helped me make the repair the same day and move on with my job👍🔨
Thanks for the detailed video. I am going to replace my Y-pipe on my 2015 F-150. I am losing coolant, slowly. No puddles seen. I know it drips on the serpentine belt because belt slips and squeals when I turn on the AC. Only happens when it's really hot outside, 90 + degrees. Replacing both belts and the Y-pipe, and O-ring at 67,000 miles. Do it myself for $120.00.
I have the same problem on my 16 XLT. Small stain on ground sometimes as it seems to start and stop. Glad I saw this vid, cause I thought it was a bad upper radiator hose.
Hey guys, so i replaced this part on my 2012 5.0 model recently. After replacing it, my MPG dropped dramatically to about 11 mpg. I replaced the thermostat, and cleaned the MAF sensor, and throttle body since I was under the hood. After that my MPG went up to 18 MPG! Never would have thought an old (119k miles) thermostat could have such an affect on my MPGs!
I wish you posted this back in January after my 2015 F 150 5.0 went in the shop for the same problem. Down side the dealer had my truck for 11 days before they could get the part so they say.
I just had to do this maintenance without the tools to remove the throttle body, or whatever that thing is that has the 4 bolts and can be flipped aside... it was miserable. Would not recommend doing this job without the capability to remove that part and give yourself room. Too hard to get leverage and replacing the y pipe requires you to essentially jam it into place. Amazing video guide!
Another fantastic video! I've been wrenching over 50 years and I watch your videos and learn the vehicle-specific tips and smile at all the little things you do to work smart not hard. For example, use an impact wrench to get the throttle body bolts close and then use a socket to feel the tightness. Nice work! Thank you!
Thanks to your video I was able to diagnose the issue on my truck leaving puddles, and order the correct parts for the repair. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for this. Great info, especially on the quick-connect hoses/ throttle body/purge hose. I didn't know the coolant hoses had to be aligned 'notch to slot'. Just did this repair 9-2023. Along with changing OEM belts and A/C Idler pulley(since I had it apart). 2014 F150@ 215K👍
@@J410N528 Ok, I have the 2014, 5.0. Once you relieve the tension on the A/C belt, it is a simple matter of removing a single bolt (15mm head) and the pulley comes right off. Easy to access with ratchet. Then reverse with new to install.
If you have this problem do yourself a favor and do what he did and change that upper hose and the T. I changed o rings and it lasted about 90 days and started leaking again. Also make sure you clean up the corrosion/ porosity on those metal pieces that is going to be a big issue on these engines. Piss poor design. Great video!!
Another one is the heater hose on the passenger side. All those plastic connectors on the hoses are terrible. Replaced the hoses, y connections, and orings. Lol. Love your videos man.
Bro, outstanding video. Took me like 20min and I started cleaning stuff it was so easy. Great video work and tone of voice. New Toyota Tundra subscriber who appreciate your help with my daughters Ford.
Can you do a video with the VCT solenoids on the 5.0. I have a 2016 that keeps having this problem.not alot of info on it except pay $4k for ford to replace the cam phasers. I thought this issue was fixed when they stopped making the 5.4 3v.
Thanks for your video. Saved me a bunch of money. Walked out to my vehicle today to see a 2-ft puddle underneath my truck crawled under and seen it leaking from this part that you described.
Thank you for this video! It was exactly what I needed to fix my leaking coolant system! And I'm not super mechanically inclined, but I can follow instructions, and these are pristine! With buying parts, coolant, a drain tube, throttle intake cleaner, and picks, it cost me about $100 and a little over an hour. Plus I cleaned the throttle body, which I'm sure would've added onto Ford's $600 quote that took several days to get. Thanks again!
a non-ford dealership just quoted $698. For an upper radiator hose and the "t" piece junction... but I can't help but feel like this dealer ship charging upwards of $400 dollars for labor and waiting two days to tell me all of this is totally worth it... nope haha !
@Greg B I own three Ford pickups and they are used primarily for work. All regular cabs with long beds. No taking the kids to soccer practice with my trucks. haha I special ordered the '16 and here is a video the day I picked it up from the dealership.ruclips.net/video/5SVb-zv_9bg/видео.html and I discuss the window sticker and price.
@Greg B mine is a 2011, has 83000 on it, and it runs great. If I drive it right, it gets 23-26mpg on the highway. It's a 4x4 supercrew xlt with the 3.55 gears.
@@ozzstars_cars again, I drive it easy, and keep everything nailed down with maintenance. Clean air filter, tires aired up properly, and alignment in spec. The 3.55 diff gets the credit here too. My 2006 had the 3.73 gears, and the 5.4 3v it drank fuel a bit more greedily.
You helped me fix my ford problems yet again. You also a long time ago got me the alignment specs for my 2016 f 150. Your a really great guy. I hope your Chanel doesn’t just go platinum but uranium. Thanks again.
@@DS-ss396The 2V motors are much easier to work on. That's why I'm going to keep my 4.6L 2V as long as I can. It ain't sexy, but it requires minimal maintenance compared to the overly complicated, overly engineered modern stuff.
The amount of videos you upload stating that these are common issues is what made me sell my f150. Seemed like everything I had issues with turned out to be "common" problems. Everyone acted like it was no big deal.
@@skyhawk21 I just kept driving my ranger. Just saying that the f150 I had was constantly needing something fixed. I spent about 2,000 cad a year on repairs. Also I bought the truck new in 2014 and sold it with 125,000 km on it and it was starting to have a misfire on cylinder 8 so I just cut my loses.
The F150 is the most popular vehicle in America and has been for many, many years. Because with the advent of RUclips, any problem now ends up as a video.....everyone panics and assumes the vehicle is no good. Anecdotes of "I am selling mine today" and "I wish I knew this before I bought it" are everywhere. Let's start some critical thought before everyone jumps off the bridge. Is the F150 perfect ?....nope. It's made by humans. Is the Ram, Sierra, or any other truck perfect ? Hardly. Same humans make those. Time we all take a chill pill as my kids say.
FTMakuloco - your videos are always helpful and top-shelf. Fords have been a famous PITD in my shop, so I always like to look ahead for what's involved before I submit a bid to the customer or start on the repair. Thank you for all your hard work and contributions to the community. 🍻 👍 ❤ ✌
@@kermitwilson that would definitely be stupid but the loss of a belt should shut engine down with zero pressure via the sending switch.leaving one stranded....
2.7 EcoBoost has one also, probably others too. There is an "inspection" interval, but to inspect it is about the same amount of work required to replace it so.....
Thanks for the video! Just did this today on my truck. Only issue was I could not find the rad drain valve. Looked all over the passenger side lower section of the radiator. Ended up just popping upper hose off rad and letting it slowly drain down to the level of the Y hose and then changed it. 2017 F-150 XLT 5.0.
Nice video. The more I see on the "5.0 Coyote" motors and their issues, the more I want to hang on to my 4.6L 2V for as long as I can. Its paid for, repairs are not expensive, and its not a grenade waiting to go off.
This was a great video. Removing those spring clips and cutting the hose to remove it are the things that the average guy would struggle with. Plus, removing the air after coolant system work is a hot topic around the internet. People report overheating problems, and "burping" is often the first suggestion. You haven't been posting much, good to see new content.
2011 coyote 245k I just had that large pipe coming from the radiator snap off right where the plastic meets the rubber, luckily when my fan went on High speed I turned off my truck and everything was fine, I would replace all the hoses after 10 years 200kmiles, easy $200 job
Thanks so much for this, saw my 2013 Mustang GT leaking coolant at the y pipe replaced the entire water neck with the metal one from Dorman as well as the gaskets, went very smoothly thanks to you
Thank you! Followed your instructions in less than 1 hour was completed thank you for a wonderful video. You should be a teacher. Wish we lived close to your shop but I live north of the border near Niagara falls.
Thank you for your video! Used your video to do my repair. Love RUclips because of videos like this. The hardest part was getting the belts back on. Thank you thank you thank you!!
This took me 6 hours with 2 trips to the store and a quick lunch break. Hardest part was getting clamp off the top piece and I had quite a bit of corrosion on that connection so spent some time trying to clean it up the best I could. When I added the coolant and started the truck up and got it to operating temperature the coolant didn't disappear I actually had to suck some out because it was ovefull to 1 inch above the cold fill line. I followed the other steps and checked it the next morning and the coolant dropped right in between the lines. This will not take 30-60 min for someone that hasn't done it before. It takes that long to drain the coolant!
Man I wish I would’ve seen this sooner. My dealer fixed a coolant leak and charged me an arm and a leg and pro ably replaced this part instead of the heater core that they said they replaced. Great video nonetheless.
Did the water pump on my 2014 5.0 at 94,000 miles. So changed all the O-rings at the same time. Ford has always done some dumb things with coolant hoses. My 1974 had that hose that you had to pull the water pump to replace.
thanks for the video. It was my problem. This was harder to do than thought. Very hard getting all the connections to line up. I had to remove the thermostat housing & that made connections much easier. The connection to the thermostat housing is very difficult to line up due to the tension in the radiator hose, but removing the thermostat fixed that. I made that connection first.
What size are these hoses? I'm curious if there are any brass y-pipe's available that would allow for full inner diameter flow (or close to it!) to replace this plastic monstrosity.
Your videos have helped me so much man so grateful your smart and right to the point and you make sure we can see what your doing thank you thank you thank you!

Skilled mechanic at god level 🤯 setting the standard for the rest
I just had to do this maintenance without the tools to remove the throttle body, or whatever that thing is that has the 4 bolts and can be flipped aside... it was miserable. Would not recommend doing this job without the capability to remove that part and give yourself room. Too hard to get leverage and replacing the y pipe requires you to essentially jam it into place. Amazing video guide!
Literally had this open and would watch 5-6 steps and do them. Super easy with your play by play. Thanks man!
I saw Antifreeze under my Water Pump and was about to buy one until I saw your video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the advice. I just replaced my flat leaky o-ring for my upper hose tonight. Thanks for the top notch service help
What's o'ring size ? Thanks...
@@marioallard2235 not sure I just had Ford look it up at my local dealership

How hard is it to change the pulley?
@@J410N528 Ok, I have the 2014, 5.0. Once you relieve the tension on the A/C belt, it is a simple matter of removing a single bolt (15mm head) and the pulley comes right off. Easy to access with ratchet. Then reverse with new to install.
@@jacklantern6339 wow, crazy easy…makes sense to do it then for sure.
Don't know his name...but every video he puts out is fantastic...thanks much for sharing your knowledge
His name is Brian , have a good day.
Great detailed video! Already replaced the thermostat and o ring. These next steps is what i needed as well. Thank you!
Thank you very much. Explained very well. I follow your instructions on every repair job on my 2012 f150
Tackling this tomorrow. Wish me luck.
4/8 f150s in our fleet had that same damn leak. Like one after the other. Hated that entire month m
I'm surprised he hasnt done a videos for those yet
Thanks for your video. Saved me a bunch of money. Walked out to my vehicle today to see a 2-ft puddle underneath my truck crawled under and seen it leaking from this part that you described.
Man this guy has taught me so much I can’t thank him enough he’s awesome
Thanks for the video! I completed the job. 2015 the stopcock is on the driver's side.
With the 10 year run of the “Y” pipe leak history, what change did Ford make to the replacement “Y” pipe?
None
note 10 years...and going
Nuttin
None.
Inexcusable
Thank you Sir. Keep the 5.0 f150 2011 and up videos coming.
For an upper radiator hose and the "t" piece junction... but I can't help but feel like this dealer ship charging upwards of $400 dollars for labor and waiting two days to tell me all of this is totally worth it... nope haha !
Pretty quick and easy job is what I say before I work on my vehicle for an entire weekend.
It is a great joy to hear the proper vocabulary for everything. Thanks!
I'll try and stay ahead of the game and order my parts now since my '16 F150 5.0 could start leaking at any mile. Thanks for the info Brian!
@Greg B 18.5k miles, bought it new.
@@markk3652 I have never even come close to that mileage with the 5.0L
@@ozzstars_cars again, I drive it easy, and keep everything nailed down with maintenance. Clean air filter, tires aired up properly, and alignment in spec. The 3.55 diff gets the credit here too. My 2006 had the 3.73 gears, and the 5.4 3v it drank fuel a bit more greedily.
You helped me fix my ford problems yet again. You also a long time ago got me the alignment specs for my 2016 f 150. Your a really great guy. I hope your Chanel doesn’t just go platinum but uranium. Thanks again.
Always professional and detail oriented
Did this on mine last year. Super simple job. I needed to change my coolant anyway lol
Sure it's a "super simple" job. Nothing is super simple on a Mod motor except for changing the Alternator.
@@DS-ss396The 2V motors are much easier to work on. That's why I'm going to keep my 4.6L 2V as long as I can. It ain't sexy, but it requires minimal maintenance compared to the overly complicated, overly engineered modern stuff.
@@DS-ss396 this particular part is right in your face, easy on easy off.
The amount of videos you upload stating that these are common issues is what made me sell my f150. Seemed like everything I had issues with turned out to be "common" problems. Everyone acted like it was no big deal.
So what did you get to drive instead of the Ford?
keep us up to date how the belt driven oil pump doing on 2021.
@@kermitwilson ask FordTechMakuloco, he's got one.
@@joecampbell606 I was going to purchase 2021 f150 v8 until I found out about cylinder deactivation and oil pump belt driven.
Funny. Never really heard of anything 'grenading' on a 5.0
This was a great video. Removing those spring clips and cutting the hose to remove it are the things that the average guy would struggle with. Plus, removing the air after coolant system work is a hot topic around the internet. People report overheating problems, and "burping" is often the first suggestion.
You haven't been posting much, good to see new content.
Yup it’s been busy at the shop, not much time for RUclips.
Because new and used vehicles are so expensive that people are fixing their old ones.
2011 coyote 245k I just had that large pipe coming from the radiator snap off right where the plastic meets the rubber, luckily when my fan went on High speed I turned off my truck and everything was fine, I would replace all the hoses after 10 years 200kmiles, easy $200 job
Thanks so much for this, saw my 2013 Mustang GT leaking coolant at the y pipe replaced the entire water neck with the metal one from Dorman as well as the gaskets, went very smoothly thanks to you
Have you had any issues with the metal Y? Mine was an absolute bitch to get on, and yesterday my upper radiator hose blew off on me
Thank you! Followed your instructions in less than 1 hour was completed thank you for a wonderful video. You should be a teacher. Wish we lived close to your shop but I live north of the border near Niagara falls.
Good thorough demonstration very informative as always
Ten years of leaks… Ford’s really on top of things.
My thoughts exactly
Thanks for making this video, had to replace the exact same thing, very helpful!
Man I wish I would’ve seen this sooner. My dealer fixed a coolant leak and charged me an arm and a leg and pro ably replaced this part instead of the heater core that they said they replaced. Great video nonetheless.
Thank you once again Brian.
Great video....answered all of my questions about this repair.
My favorite mechanic...
When will these engineer's learn you don't fix what ain't broke. How many cheap plastic parts do you have to take apart just to get to the broke part.
Did the water pump on my 2014 5.0 at 94,000 miles. So changed all the O-rings at the same time. Ford has always done some dumb things with coolant hoses. My 1974 had that hose that you had to pull the water pump to replace.
This guys awesome you f150 owners be thankful 👍
Great job with the details.
Well filmed and explained. Thank you
thanks for the video.
Very informative. Keep those videos coming !

Hey big fan Im from ontario canada ford tech makuloco has saved me thousands repairing my ford trucks over the years . Just want to ad to this video . On my 2015 f150 my coolant drain was on the drivers side not the passenger from what I understand this is for 2015-2019 models drain is on drivers side.
