    Perry Baker is one of those guys who is simply built for sevens. I'm sure he would be more than solid ( he would be lethal on counter-attack especially) in 15-a-side but the pace and space in sevens allows him to really show his talent. Absolute legend of the game. Him and Carlin Ilses are absolute speed demons. The explosive power and speed he grew up training as footballer definitely helps him in sevens

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  26 дней назад

      You're 100% right about that Joshua. I agree. It would be interesting to see if he could've done well in 15s. I'll have to check out Carlin Isles too

    6:05 - that skill is also well drilled into you as a child in rugby. You are taught that and it is drilled into young rugby players to switch the ball in your hands, to the hand furthest away from the closest defender. That makes it harder for a defender to rip the ball mid stride or as you said be hit out of your hands. So it’s not just an American football skill. I recall be taught that as early as 8 or 9 years old and it being drilled into me until I was about 15/16 years old.

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  26 дней назад

      Thanks for letting me know that Fionn. I was wondering if rugby drilled that technique. It's great to know what you're taught that as well

  • @beaststreamer7949
    @beaststreamer7949 28 дней назад +2

    In rugby we learn to switch the ball to the other hand so that the other team/player can't rip the ball,because if you run into a player with the ball,the chances of you losing the ball is higher

      @@QSNgg Yeah it is also to have your inside arm free for a possible stiff arm. You can see in some replays players switching the ball to cover the closest defenders, sometimes swapping multiple times.

    In rugby we are taught to change the ball to the hand furthest from the opposition player to prevent the ball being ripped by them and keeping possession. Similar reason to football, but in rugby you won't see players punch the ball out of someone's arms.

    In 15s they say never run sideways. In 7s it’s ok to run backwards. Perry’s really good at this

      Yeah 7s seems for freestyle in terms of running from what I've observed. I love the pace of the game. It looks exhausting and tough to cover that much field with just 7 players

    I'm so excited to tell you this!!! I don't know when you'll get to it, but check out the newest video from Squidge Rugby. It's an analysis on the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final. It is my favorite analysis video ever. It was originally uploaded a few months ago, then got taken down for copyright. But the squidge was granted to rights to the match footage, so he reuploaded it.
    It's 40 minutes long, but it would be super interesting to hear your thoughts on it. Even if you don't react to the whole thing, just for yourself watch it. And if you can please do a reaction of at least the last 10 or so minutes.
    In those last minutes (not including the credits) he talks about Siya Kolisi the captain of the squad. It's super inspiring, interesting, and heartfelt. It's just and excellent video.

    Changing hands is very much a rugby thing to do.
    First, it gets the ball away from the tackler/ball stripper.
    Second, since all of his support will be coming from his right he will need to use his left hand to pass.
    Ruggers on attack never do anything that will make it more likely for the ball to go into touch. That would be a turnover. It's when you don't have the ball that you want it to leave play.
    In the 2nd video where he mystifies the 3 guys in red watch where he puts the ball. He's not putting it on the outside. Perry gave up 'gridiron' long ago.
    Perry was playing 15s when I met him here in Daytona Beach. Believe me, he was just as dangerous then as when he is playing 7s.
    At his age I doubt he'll play Eagle15s again.

    Both the American men and ladies teams are consistently in the world's top 8 in sevens.

It's 45 minutes and Squidge can be a bit hard to understand if you aren't too familiar with his accent, but the video has some great strategic and tactical insights that I think you will appreciate and it also gives you an insight into the captain Siya Kolisi in a way that a highlights video never would.

      Yeah…according to Squidge, NZL AllBlacks can’t tackle properly, NZL AllBlacks we’re only side doing interference, Beauden Barret is retiring (completely false), he also makes no full mention that NZL played 62 mins with 14 players against 15. It’s the most bias analysis I’ve seen
