    Thanks for the idea!
    Here are some unrequested improvements:
    1. Measure the stem of the grips (with a caliper, in millimeters)
    2. Im sure diagonal bavels are different too..
    3. Measurements are interesting without grip tape too
    4. Coach Rob's grip (position of his hand on the grip) is not very next gen😅

    Tennis Warehouse had the following measurements for aspect ratio of the grip (that's grip shape, not buttcap shape which is a whole other story):
    Prince 1,04
    Yonex 1,06
    Head (TK82S) 1,09
    Dunlop 1,13
    Wilson 1,13
    Babolat 1,13
    ProKennex 1,15
    Völkl 1,18
    Head (TK82) 1,20
    Tecnifibre 1,22

    Head changed their grip years ago from “rectangular” to “square”. I think they needed calipers to do the measurements right. When Tennis Warehouse did their study it revealed Head as the most square grip and Technifibre as the most rectangular grip. Everything else was in the middle.

      Yes, and it seemed gradual over the years. My 1990 Head Atlantis 660 grip shape is different from my 2012 Head Prestige, and became even more symmetrical in my 2023 Head Gravity.

      I read that Head quit the TK82 pallets after the Pro Tour 2.0. So now, apparently, all racquet lines get the more squared TK82S. Which incidentally seems to be the least popular of the two! Way to listen to your customers! 🤔

    • @BorisBecker1872
      @BorisBecker1872 21 день назад

      @@WaltKurtz68 The game changed tho. Less continental/Eastern grips so the change makes sense. And you can still get the old pallets so either extreme is available.

    • @WaltKurtz68
      @WaltKurtz68 21 день назад

      @@BorisBecker1872 I wonder. I still read mostly negative comments about the TK82S, ppl seem to prefer the more rectangular TK82. So much for less continental/eastern grips, I guess.

    Agree on some of the Wilson racquets. Some of the butt caps are rounded on the edge and comfortable but others are rigid and cut into your hand. I have two Pro Staff 97L and both have the rigid butt caps, I had to cover it with grip tape.

    Great, millimeters may make more sense...

      @enematwatson1357 21 день назад

      Not necessarily mm but you need a much higher degree of precision than 1/16" (approx 1.6 mm). Even 1/64" would still be rather crude.

    Great analysis. I actually think grip shape impacts my one handed backhand more than my forehand. Found Volkl fills the grip gap on backhand side much better than wilson. Easier to hold hand behind grip. Volkl feels rounder. Would like to see u measure that, too.

    Love the current Head grips shape!! Actually makes such a huge difference to the feel of the racquet + more importantly the way it plays. Can whip the ba way better with a modern Head racquet. Funny as Head used to have the super rectangular grip which is a complete deal breaker for me

    I don't know why exactly, but Wilson feels best in my hands. The new rounder buttcaps feel amazing and help with grip stability!! :)

    Would love to see a discussion of the various brands head shapes. They can actually vary a lot between different racquet lines within a brand and not just between brands. For instance, it always appears to me that Prince and Babolat have more symmetric head shapes where the width to length ratio is more even. Head and Wilson seem more oval with Wilson being more a true oval shape and Head being more elongated. Tecnifibre and Volkl seem to have an oval-ish but slight reverse teardrop shape. And of course Yonex has it own isometric rectangular design, though even within Yoney there are some differences and some lines seem to have less exaggerated amounts o rectangularity.

    I wish I could afford to have custom handles made. I miss the shape of the older wood frames handle.

    Take a look at Richard Gasquet's butt caps. They are massive! Watch the RUclips of him wrapping his grip. It's crazy.

  • @Dasato123

    I miss the style of butt caps that wood rackets had. Especially Donnay and Bancroft. They were about a half inch shorter and the circumference at the tail end was far smaller. Just a little bigger then the actual grip. This smaller butt cap made it more comfortable to hold the butt cap actually a little bit in the palm of the hand a la Borg and many other pros back then, especially clay courters. It made for a freer swing because it was harder to muscle the racket holding the end of the grip with less hand involved. It also gave you some of the advantages of a stretch racket before it was even a mainstream thing.
