    Loved this tour, and seeing the car in use too.
    I got my very first speeding ticket ever, this year, and was mortified! I was doing 36 in a 30, and mistakenly thought I was in a 40 limit. The speed awareness course was fabulous. I deliberately chose ‘in person’ and the tutors were so interesting. It was in a hotel and the tutors shouted out in reception “everyone for the advanced driving course follow me. 🤣”.
    Thank you for great videos

    Looks like another fab tour ahead for you guys. I'm just back from Orkney and stayed at Pickaquoy, facilities are great with big individual cubicles it's a great base to explore Kirkwall and further afield. The dog friendly Storehouse restaurant in Kirkwall was also a highlight as was Robertson's coffee house in St Margaret's Hope, booking advisable for both.
    Looking forward to following you on your next adventure.

    I visited Orkney in May and stayed at Pickaquoy. Useful site close to the centre of Kirkwall but find the departure time of 10am rather early. I preferred the Stromness and Birsay sites although they also require leaving by 10am. I love Morvich.

    When you go to Orkney, we can highly recommend Skerries Bistro, amazing fresh seafood and famous for their cheesecake pudding which is amazing! Do normal food too! Lovely outlook across the pentland firth and easy Motorhome parking. Have visited several times. Near to tomb of the eagles site. Also community cafe at fossil centre does good food and near to the cl that you are staying on. Sheila Fleet Kirk Gallery & Cafe is also a great place for lunch! So many lovely places to see and visit on Orkney! I really hope you enjoy your trip!

    I bought a Thule Vivo Compact 2 last August and use it on the back of my Range Rover. When I ordered the motorhome last oct they gave me a bike rack but you are right, I will probably not put my electric bike on it. I bought the Thule on eBay new from a a Volvo dealer . I paid £300 instead of over £500 for the generic Thule. There is no difference. It’s a brilliant piece of kit. When I eventually get delivery of the motorhome I will mount the Thule on my tow bar.

    Bob, I got stopped about 12 years ago doing 35 in a 30 zone outside Chester. I was really annoyed with myself. I got a speed awareness course and went to it thinking ‘this will be rubbish’. It was one of the most positive experiences Ive ever had and I am a much safer driver since. Bad habits were creeping in and it was a good reset. I think you’ll be fine and you’ll probably find that your driving will be safer after it. Good luck.

    We stayed at The Crofter’s Snug for one night, last year. Such a beautiful position. The owners are lovely. There where dozens of seals on the beach (turn left out of the site and, where the road goes round to the left, go straight ahead down the footpath to the beach), and we saw some orcas swimming past, so keep your eyes peeled. 😊 have fun! Suzie and Alan.

    The Isle of White looked really lovely. With reference to the speeding ticket, I did the same by looking at scenery. The speed awareness course is good and shows you why it is very important to not speed, but we all make mistakes and learn from them. I hope you have better luck than I have had, every time I’ve been to Oban it rains every single day. 🤞I like your honesty with the reviews.

    We to have had multiple discussions around what to go for next after 6 years with our current set up so its nice to see others having the same discussions. We have had e bikes now for 6 years and used a top spec transit van to tow our caravan which made transportation and safe storage of the bikes really easy keeping them dry when towing and away from prying eyes when on site. It also gave us tons of storage for the plethora of equpment we inevitability took with us as we like to pitch for an up on site for an extended period and really explore the area. We couldn't justify spending £35,000 on a new van and couldn't find a motorhome that gave us the space that we had been accustomed to in the caravan with a layout that suited us both. The solution? We now leave the bikes at home, which is a shame, and use a nice powerful car loaded with comfort and spec to tow and enjoy walking and sussing out local transport links to get us about when on site. ,
    I really enjoy your channel and have used your arriving at videos mutiple times to familiarise ourselves with the approach to site prior to leaving home, Incleboro and Barnard Castle being the two most recent ones. Keep up the good work and watch that speed. 😂😂

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Год назад

      Thanks for the comments. I also think that stuff automatically finds the space you do have! I wonder if you can take your e-bikes on the car roof or that too much weight?

    • @richardbinnie
      @richardbinnie Год назад

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo Too heavy to lift onto the roof, even with the battery removed I'm afraid. We have also purchased the Thule 2 bike carrier that fits directly onto the towbar which still gives us options to take the bikes away when we are at home or not using the caravan.

    Oh crikey, you were probably one of the last people I would have expected to get a speeding ticket - sorry to hear that - how annoying but easily done.
    Isle of White looked good. Must do that one day.
    Enjoy your upcoming trip - sounds great with some excellent sites.
    It’s surprising how much space you save having bikes on the back rather than inside as I was carrying MiRider inside as got a bit spooked and worried on theft after a trip and got a similar one (Atera Strada DL3 Sliding Bike Rack) and with the stuff Trev from Poshcats (cover and stretchy net) recommended felt much more secure and was grateful of not needing to move it around inside as left it on front seat usually.
    The prices are bonkers aren’t they - common sense says it should rationalise in the next couple of years but unlikely to be as it was but cost to change is the key thing isn’t it.
    All the very best, David & Rachel 👍

    You have mentioned Jenny's sea sickness before so why not buy a packet of Stugeron tablets which cost around £4. Take a tablet around a couple of hours before your crossing and see if this helps. We used to go on cruises and my wife suffered from sea sickness until we came across this product. From then onwards problem solved.
    With regard to your trip, we went through Balater on our Scotland tour at the end of May/early June. I don't know if you would need to take the mh into Ballater from the caravan park but if you do then the main car park in the middle of the town is easy to park in. We really like Ballater. It is a very nice place.
    We also stayed at Ardtower Caravan Park on our tour. We took the bus (new fully electric vehicles) into Inverness. The bus times seem to be a little different from the times that we were given at the caravan park. It’s a dilemma deciding whether you want storage or layout and one like you we have mulled over many times. We have an elddis 285 twin beds rear loo like yours and we love it but the storage is limited (we have taken out the travel seats which gives us 50kg more storage) the van is up plated to 3700 but the extra is on the front axle so the rear is still 2000kg and we were packed this year to got to France with out 2 e-bikes on a tow bar mounted carrier but when we weighted it it was 30kg over in the rear axle so ended up taking the bikes off and leaving them at home. We do have an iforwilliams bv64e box trailer that we can get both bikes in and other bits and bobs for a long trip but I have also taken the controversial decision to take off the spare wheel and carrier which is 40kg and bought a tyre repair kit which a lot of motorhomes seem to be getting these days which will let us take the bikes on the carrier rather than the trailer. It will be interesting to see which route you take if and when you change vans.

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo I agree but there are people out there who don’t seem to care or have any idea. There was a van at Garliston last year with 2 adults 2 teenagers 4 bikes 4 canoes and loads of other stuff jammed in their garage, my first thought was they have to be overloaded but they didn’t seem to care or didn’t know. It’s about time the manufacturers started to make it a bit more obvious about weight limits so people don’t just see all this storage and just fill it with everything they want.

    Hi Bob, just rewatched this as something similar has just happed to me. I have never had a speeding ticket in my driving career of over 45 years. I have just got a Ford Transit Custom Nugget. Not a huge vehicle, however I believed that it had the same speed limits as a car. I was doing 57 in a 60mph single carriageway. I’ve just got an intention to prosecute for doing 57. My V5 states it’s a private vehicle and a Motor Caravan. The notice states it’s a manned goods vehicle. I’ve looked on the Govt. website and it states if the vehicle is more than 3.05 tonnes max. Unladen weight it’s 50mph on a 60. Although my V5 says the van is a revenue weight of 3240kg that is max. the mass in service is 2643kg. So I’m assuming it is the lower weight as it is “unladen”. I’m guessing I will be able to challenge it at some point.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  6 месяцев назад +1

      Speed limits for motorhomes are based on unladen weights, which is crazy. I did do a video about speed limits, a while ago. You should contest it because your unladen weight can't be more than 3.05 tonnes especially if you're registered as a motorcaravan. The convertor should be able to tell you the unladen weight, unless they assume it's the same as mass in service.

    • @swdman1234

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo Many thanks for the link Bob. I can’t find a figure relating to unladen weight but I have found on the V5 a figure called “Mass in service” which is 2643kg. I am assuming this is a figure on the road. This is nowhere near the 3.05tonnes for the lower speed limit. The Nugget does have a Maximum Permissable Weight of 3240kg but as stated it is unladen not laden that governs the speed limits. Hopefully when I challenge the ticket this will be accepted.

However, the places you visited on the IOW could all be reached by bus and had you taken a bike instead of your car, you would have been able to explore the excellent cycleway between Sandown and Cowes. There is also good walking from the site which I don't think you covered. None of this is meant as a criticism.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  Год назад +1

      Whilst it's very commendable to use public transport and walk everywhere, it would have been over an hour on the bus to Osborne House, a ten minute walk to the bus and back, most days it was 28C, not very good for Poppy. A round trip of nearly three hours. Additionally dogs may travel on public transport, but it is at the discretion of the driver.
      It would leave less time for filming and edit, something many viewers don't have to do.

      Sorry, but a motorhome is far more flexible, it can act like a caravan when we take the car, but it can also take you places you wouldn't take a caravan. We like going to National Trust properties, where we park up, visit the property and come back to the Motorhome when we get tired. We can take it to outside events, park up and enjoy our own food, we can stop on the motorway, pop the kettle on, have a snooze on the bed, go out for the day and everything is with us, cameras, food and importantly toilet. And, as many have said it's easier to tow a small car with a big van than the other way around. Not only that, but the car and motorhome can take each other to and from a service!

So I can see it from 2 angles. One comment I would make, and this doesn't necessary apply to you, but I wish when its a heavy item that the person doing the review would quote the weight. Some do. Its so important when you are limited to 3.500t. You can, so quickly come unstuck on gross weight or the one people forget, axle weights, which is just as important. I must say not sure if you do or not give the weight. Take a power bank and an electric bike and very quickly you'll in trouble. Sorry if I have gone on a bit but I was 25 yrs in road haulage.
