As a Jamaican who has seen him many times I'm in full fledged mourning.... Saw him February of this year and he was as fit as a fiddle. Covid-19 has finally hit home and it's never going to be the same going forward just because of Toots.
Long live king Toots. I saw him in new Orleans 13 yes ago and he inspired me to go to Jamaica to learn everything I could. Now it's a huge part of my life, I listen to and play reggae everyday. Respect and Big up a true legend.
RIP Toots, the lord's pressure just dropped when you arrive at the gates. Thank you for your love of all, your spirit in the music. You are and will be always, what is good in the world.....
I saw them in Ventura Theater,California in 1988, and I will never forget it!! Even got to clap hand with Toots himself!! When i got home, I discovered, that my hands actually had little sores on them from clapping!! Í haven´t had that experience since then, and I´ve both seen Mark Knopfler and Madonna since then!! :-)
Its really nice seeing them play that song after decades. Noone else is alive to play their music. I wanna see the greats play live but 30 years to late.
Still wonder why Toots and Tosh left same 11th September. Marley also left on the 11th. Maybe a Rastafarian date. That of Tosh and Toots more surprising..... same day and same month. Marley's day reminds me of my birthday, 11th May which I often forget until a station begins to play his songs early morning of the date. Maybe the last of the pioneer Lions, Bunny Wailers and Jimmy Cliff will choose this same Rastafarian 11th day to fly away home to Jah when their work is finally done. Rest in peace beloved Toots.
Honestly, I think they just aren’t aware of what Jamaican ska is. They’re clapping their hands - which is cool, but this performance deserves a room full of skankin!!! ✌🏻💙😎
@mastergrass157 a ska/bluebeat/reggae skinhead classic, it was covered very famously by the Clash which probably shot it to fame once more, and later by The Specials during the Ska Revival/Twotone era. The Maytals mention on Punky Reggae PArty by Bob MArley (along with The Damned The Jam The Clash) did them no end of good
@mastergrass157 Robert Palmer made the song ? Oh please do your homework. The song was written by Toots - Palmer presumably knew of it through his involvement with Reggae music via Island Records, and the amount of time he spent in Funky Nassau. Not that I'd knock him. The song was played extensively (the Toots version) in the late 70's by John Peel on the UK's Radio 1 - it was originally popular amongst skinheads in the early 70's
Mourning for Toots Hibbert ... a reggae legend has died ... I can still remember

The version he did on SNL was sooo good, Jack Johnson on a steel guitar with a monster solo. pure class!
