I’m up in Northeastern California. We lost a million acres and two towns last Summer. Two solid months of smoke. I had my car packed and ready to evacuate for three weeks. My house was yellow tagged (evacuation warning). I am praying for a light fire season here. I hope they get put out quickly there.

🙏🙏I'm praying for no fires this year too. In Oct 2020 when there were huge fires miles away there was a day where the sky was literally orange. It covered the sun so much that you couldn't tell where it was.

Fireweed is typically the first thing that grows back after a forest fire. Then come the alder trees and finally, years later, the evergreens come in. It looks like, because of the land clearing you did to build your house, the fireweed has come back like it would after a fire. I think Bert is taking us all on a fishing trip. The video with the kids was really cute and very funny. Loved it!!!💖👍

Hi folks, I haven't been gardening for abt 6 years now , cause now I'm in apartment, but there wild berries in the back yard. Might be able to make syrup. BUT, I'VE NEVER SEEN RED cauliflower. That's new to me. Am hoping to move north and hopefully have something of gardening. Think the easiest is potatoes; maybe green beans. Really wish I could do gardening, but have sooo much to do already..

But we have an RV packed and ready to go ever since 4 years ago when we had the awful fire that crossed the highway and was devastating. Good luck to all of Alaska and especially Sommers in Alaska. I live in Shelton, CT. Don't expect that you have EVER heard of it. The east coast has had a lot of rain in the last few years. Prior to that there were some times of drought and, to be honest, the summers are SUPPOSED to be dry-ish in this region. But, not lately. Personally I LOVE rain! Couldn't really abide by living in a drought prone section of the country. I am really happy with the weather in the northeast presently.

We get fires every summer. We had one about a .5 miles from the house to start the fire season off. It's always a little stressful wondering if this is going to be the year your house burns down...especially when your home insurance drops you at the beginning of fire season like this year. Thankfully, our firefighters do a fantastic job, and despite all the fires, big and small, that we have, it's extremely rare for our area to lose a structure.

We deal with forest fires in Idaho. Not bad so far this year, but it's been really dry lately. We had a lot of rain in May. What that usually means is that we will have a later fire season. All the rain in May made everything including the weeds grow like crazy. It usually takes 2 or 3 months to dry out and then it just takes one lighting strike.

Actually, in many cases in the past, here in the southern Central Valley of California, we have had problems with smoke from fires that were 70-100 miles away. All depends on how the wind is moving. Studies in the past have authenticated smoke/smog moving south, through the Valley from the San Francisco Bay area into the Southern portion of the Central Valley..... a distance of some 200+ miles..

Hello Somers in Alaska, I know what you're going through since I live in Northern California and last year we had many large forest fires going on for months. It does effect the air quality and growing vegetation especially wine grapes and other large scale agricultural crops which suffered greatly. I work at a daycare and many days the air quality was so bad we couldn't take children outside to play. Luckily we have large air purifiers in each room to filter out the smoke. Several times a day we were checking air quality on our cell phone apps. The news advised us to wear face masks for greater protection. On days I didn't work and stayed at home I used a large 3M 20x20 air filter on a box fan to draw out in room smoke. Believe me it worked as I could see dark residue on the filter. It's good to stock up on these because they can sell out quickly. Hope your air clears up soon for you. Take care and stay safe.

Yes, Northern California has had huge wildfires in the last few years. Mendocino National Forest is vast and surrounding counties, and a lot has burned. The hot weather is really kicking off now (100’s daily where I’m at). We sometimes get that lightning as well. For a while there almost every county around me had some sort of evacuation no less than twice per year. It’s not fun. I recognize that hazy orange sun. I hope you get rain!

I love your videos. I was on an Alaskan cruise last month. When we stopped in Skagway, we saw Fireweed jelly. I knew exactly what it was since you had talked about it last year. I told everyone that was with me, what fireweed was. I love all the things you show and tell us about Alaska. I definitely want to do a land tour soon. From Summers in NC to Somers in Alaska.

I remember the Chena Hot springs Rd fire and the fire over by Brock road area. Those were right in your neck of the woods, North Pole. There was so much smoke the sun looked red. Stay safe and good luck fishing Bert!

It has been very dry here in New Jersey. I live in south Jersey , the pine barrens and we have had major forest fires here. Thank God we haven’t had any evacuations, very scary.💕

We live in Central Arizona and were in a SET for over 3 weeks because of the Crooks Fire. It was really tense but part of living in the Arizona forest .

In the late 60”s my husband and I were living in Anchorage, he was in the Army stationed at Ft. Richardson, and he had to go somewhere up north to fight forest fires for several weeks.

Prayers that your family & everyone in Alaska stays safe during these many fires.🙏 Your "chuck-a-kid" workout was hilarious! 😁 Gee, I was a preschool teacher for many years...wonder what parents might have thought if they'd found us doing some of these routines...lol. 🏃‍♀️🤸‍♂️💪

Thanks for sharing, your videos are always nice to watch. LOL the video of the workout from the past is funny. But glad you all managed to get through it. We here in Northeast Philadelphia Pa area, the weather is always changable. We do get some nasty thunderstorms that dump a lot of rain at times that leads to flash flooding in ponds, creeks and roads. We also usually get the tail end of hurricanes that ride up the coast and dump a lot of rain too at times. Wind always plays a big factor in the storms. But hope the fires die down up there in Alaska and the smoke clears out fot you. Keep up the good work. God Bless.

When I was your age I felt the same about fireweed but after 45 years in Alaska I have learned to just embrace the changes and not sweat it anymore...
