For people whose laptop speaker stoped working but headphones work *after an 'Update'* simply go to uninstall update and *uninstall that particular update* , then *'Restart'* your PC.
This will definitely work!

Hi, have a Toshiba laptop and bought it with no sound and found speaks wires gone, so i rewired to both sockets and still no beep at startup or when test in Ubunto. Resistance on sockets was 80K and 40k to ground so socket isnt shorted to each pin and speakers are good at 4 ohm so it should work unless sound has totally failed and last person just ripped it out!!! I do board repairs but never had a sound failure before so if you could help? Speakers are totally dead, not the slightest hiss or signal although i havnt scoped for signal!

Windows has always been buggy, but Windows 10 has infuriated me more than any other version. It is constantly "updating" (read: breaking) things without me even knowing it, and there's apparently no way to turn off its "updates" completely, forever, until I actually decide I want an "update".

turns out it some debris was stuck in my headphone jack. my headphones doesnt go all the way inside so i figured something was blocking it. so fiddled the headphone jack with a small wooden stick and sound came out after like 10 seconds
