      Hey at least they didn't lie out their ass and multiply the rated power by 7 or 8. I bet if you put 300 amps thru any amp that's in its price range and the same will happen, but yeah it should have over current protection.

    • @ThonotosassaBoys
      @ThonotosassaBoys 4 года назад +8

      This is a misconception with the design of most Brazilian amps. The way dynos read power does something funky with the full bridge amp design. If you put that sub on a subwoofer and then clamp power tested it would do over rated and be very reliable. I personally have that stetsom ex3000eq in my truck for 3 years on a 300a fuse. Ran 2 18s walled at first now I have it running 6 8" mids. It's a fantastic amp that gets a bad reputation from these type of scenarios since you cannot dyno them properly.

    • @JosephArata
      @JosephArata 4 года назад +12

      @@ThonotosassaBoys With how cheap electronics are to manufacture these days, it's just not safe not to have overcurrent protection in the design. As a matter of fact, it's illegal to install any electronic equipment that doesn't have overcurrent protection in most countries for insurance and fire liability reasons. If you want to install some piece of shit equipment like this into your property, be my guest. But don't cry like a baby if your entire vehicle is in flames because the amplifier failed and the fuseing you used was insufficient.

    You should never feel guilty or concerned about an amp manufacturer's reputation. You do clean, transparent tests. If the amp can't meet ratings, then that information needs to be public. If the amp fails in a dangerous way, as this one did, then that is a matter of consumer safety. You are perfectly justified to share your findings. Keep up the good work!

      @@wal My thoughts exactly. You could burn your car to the ground very easily if this was to happen on the highway. I have a Soundstream Rubicon Nano RN1-5000D in my Mk4 Golf running two Sundown Audio SA12D2s, and I have it wired with 2G battery cable for power and ground with a 200A breaker at the front. These Sundowns are only rated for 500 watts a piece, wired at 2 ohms with the gain only turned half way up on the amp, they SLAM for two 12s, but I'm sure that Soundstream is pulling some major amperage. I paid $175 for that 5000 watt amp (yeah...right), but I have ALWAYS had good luck with Soundstream amps. I had four round Kicker Solobaric 10s on a Soundstream Reference 1000S back in the back of my 92 Integra back in the day. This Rubicon Nano may not make the 5k watts that it's advertised to, but it powers those two Sundown 12s like you wouldn't believe.

Evidently in South America it is popular for guys to have big ass semis that they turn into "wall of sound" demo trucks. I've seen at least 2 videos of this type of vehicle on fire due to over current just like what happened here. I've also seen videos of cars and trucks full of smoke and fire from these as well. Each TO220 FET (the large package) can roughly handle 75A. The moment voltage starts dropping the current has to go up to keep the same wattage up. Concurrently, efficiency starts dropping as well. The Brazilian amps are pushed to the limits in regards to the current pushed through these things. It's for this reason, and no joke, when people say that Brazilian amps can handle voltage drop. Even when the voltage is in spec, the FETs are pushed to their theoretical limits. The small chassis with no heat-sinking doesn't help either. To compare Fosgate on the BDCP Power lineup also uses large package TO220 but they use more of them, have a well designed protection circuit, very heavy sinks, and push sensible power numbers (the BDCP 1500 does ~2000W RMS / 3000W burst).

    I know some Brazilian amps will go up in smoke if rca voltage is more than 2v

    • @jasoncasto910
      @jasoncasto910 4 года назад +1

      Jose Hcca Luna The RCA input voltage shouldn’t affect the power supply section. My guess is that it’s not truly 1 ohm stable by design. Or it may not like a 1ohm resistive load.

    If you ask me this is the exact reason why you should but a fuse in between the battery and the amp power wire. If the wire had a fuse rated properly for the amp with wire the correct gauge you would never have that problem. The fuse would just blow before it goes over the current pull that would blow the amp.

Don't feed with more than 1.5 volts of rca signal.... Don't get up to clipping..... Tune to the cleanest signal possible.... And if you want 2500 watts buy 5k

    In the video the amp starts at 15.23 volts dynos then dynos again at 15.01 that's the equivalent of burping twice in a row. This will cause most amps to blow or protect. I ran Brazilian amps similar fine at 14.8 15 volts plus will cause them to blow. Start at 14.8 see what happens

    Big D saves the day again! I actually found their amps via their speakers and had my reservations about a rebadged Brazil made amplifier and it turns out my gut was right! Timpano, used to be Tempesta in Italy and all they made were speakers. Good speakers...VERY good speakers for the commercial audio market. PRV bought them (Probably for the speaker tech) and decided to make the name more "Latino" and into a full line brand. They probably should have gone to Taramps or PowerUs instead. Lost opportunity. Thanks for saving me a few hundred bucks BigD...you ain't no "big dummy"!
    Edit cause I'm a big dummy and can't spell.

    Fire extinguisher tip: Get A CO2 extinguisher for the lab. When you use this, it puts out CO2 and puts the fire out and doesn't leave a mess. Carbon Dioxide is commonly used around electrical and electronic equipment due to it being so clean, just don't use it on wood or paper fires.

    Big D, based on a ton of your amp dynos, is it the norm these days for car audio amps to be rated at 2 or 3 times what they can actually deliver? As a teenager in the 80's paying alot of hard pay cash for Alpine and JVC amps I and my buddies played for, are amps today different than when my friends and I payed all that money? They seemed to be bad ass back then with no problems, with 12 band x2 EQs, and crossovers. Now, we are in our early 50's, and have money for our rides, but your channel may be showing us we are getting ripped for our money on the power. We have noticed it. My friends and I, all agree the sound is NOT the same. Can you do a video that might explain how we should approach buying power for our classic old school rides? We used to put 4 6x9 monos in the back window with enclosures and listen to Boston, and rattle our teeth. What has changed? My pro restoration shop is watching and listening to your channel. Are we being cheated on our amps? Thank you!

The vehicle and house are the 2 most expensive investments in life. I don't want something like this in any of my family's or customers vehicles. Safety has to always come first. • @makerspace533

    I've seen this on other equipment as well. It is usually the traces on the circuit board that are not heavy enough to carry the current. The original circuit boards may have been made with two ounce or heavier copper. Then someone in production uses one ounce copper boards because they are much cheaper. On Chinese stuff that gets copied, the copies may be using thin copper because they don't know what they're doing, or care for that matter.

    Fuses are designed to snap at around 1.5x to 2x the current the fuse is rated for. This way the fuse won't snap every time you hit 60 amps on an amp with 2x30a fuses, but it will snap when you short and send 120amps + to the fuse.
