@@xman777b The apocalyptic setting is only skin deep. There are very few games that lean into vehicle element of these worlds. Vehicles in games are tools. Vehicles in Mad Max and Days Gone are tools to survive. They look after you so long as you look after them. There's an entirely different feel to these settings when you have _the_ vehicle instead of _a_ vehicle. In GTA, you mess up your car, you go grab a new one, likely annoyed by the terrible spawn set so you're stuck with something like a station wagon but nothing more. In MM and DG, you mess up your vehicle and you're stuck, exposed to everything that wants to kill you and you _feel_ it. You are immediately aware of the miles you now need to walk to get what you need to fix the vehicle (in MM, this is limited to fuel but in DG this is fuel and parts to repair it). The vehicle is your home from home. It's an adult version of "base" when you played tag as a child. When shit hits the fan, you can run to your vehicle and get the hell out of dodge. It's a means of relief. So long as you can reach your vehicle, you're generally safe, you'll _live._ Tell me, how many games do you know of that care so much about fuel consumption that they bake in a mechanic to push your vehicle to conserve fuel or be able to move when you have none so you don't need to start the engine? I'm very much a car person but I have to say I prefer the treatment of the bike in DG but both of these games are aimed at that "car guy" mentality and almost no others exist. Off the top of my head, I can name Pacific Drive which is a level of horror I'm simply not into, Jalopy which is a bit too cursory for me, and My Summer Car that's developed by a guy who prefers to troll his players instead of let them live in the world they've been thrown into. Recently, Star Trucker does similar with its resource management, abandoning and killing you with wanton glee in space when you mess up but that's a trucking sim with basically no world to it... and the fact that messing up is a death sentence instead of simply making the player feel like they're screwed.
The story in Days gone is nothin groundbreaking but i still felt that the story was well writen and has some great characters. Deacon himself is iconic in my opinion

Action and combat systems are on point. Fun game mechanics. Open world fun. That being said, I feel like Mad Max is more replay-able and a bit easier to come back to. Two vastly underrated bangers.
These two games and Red Dead Redemption 1 all complement each other wonderfully. They all have very similar concepts and tones such as a mode of transport(Bike, car, horse), shady companions, harsh unforgiving landscapes, and building a new world out of a dying old world(RDR 1 takes place during the death of the wild West). They are also full of dark humor and horrible atrocities. All three regions the games are set in are also deeply steeped in mysticism.

Great video! I wish I had played these games sooner because they're just excellent. I also like to note that Deacons voice actor Sam Witwer, he's previously voiced star killer and Darth maul in the clone wars which he did excellently however, in days gone he does such a great job simply sounding like an actual human with and not just a guy reading a script.
Thanks 😁 Yes, Sam Witwer did a great job. I have an issue with Days Gone's writing, but performances are decent. Deacon's unhinged characteristics are portrayed very well by Sam.
The reason Deacon rides a motorbike is because he was a biker before the apocalypse, and if i remember properly for quite a long time. He's probably more used to driving them than a car, and for the reasons you listed.

But gameplay aspects are almost similar regardless of massive differences. I would still prefer Mad Max because of it's unique world and overall concept but Days Gone is also a game I adore despite some of it's shortcomings. It's just sad we won't get a sequel to these 2 underrated gems.
@@Zrs3820 Thanks 😁 yeah it's a massive shame they're pretty much standalone titles now. Especially since I recently heard that George Miller isn't a fan of the Mad Max game. Doesn't inspire confidence for follow up titles.
@@TheJiffyI can't blame Miller considering how Warner Brothers backstabed him while making the game. I have heard rumors that Miller wants to make another Mad Max with Hideo Kojima who made Death Stranding who he is a fan off but then again, it's all rumors so I would take them with a grain of salt 😅
Outside of RDR2 - these are the only big open world games I have absolutely finished the storyline, and nearly 100% the side activities... and yet both were seen as bad, failures, and not to have sequels building on their, in my opinion, most excellent roots to build up from.
Days Gone and Mad Max are two of my favorite games. I’ve played both like 3-4 times each. I’d have to give the edge to Days Gone but Mad Max isn’t far behind. Two very different apocalyptic open worlds and game mechanics. You honestly can’t compare them or say they’re alike. Both great games in my opinion 👍🏻
I often hear that type of statement. "You can't compare them, they're too different". But here I am, comparing them. Incidentally, I disagree completely. They have many similar qualities that I highlight in the video. So...respectfully... What on earth are you on about? But yes, they're both great games 😁
Mad Max ALL DAY. Days Gone was too many go across map for fetch missions. Now I didn’t finish it got to some old guy gang at bottom of map. I beat Mad Max and loved the traversal and car combat.
"titular"? 😡 all my homies say "eponymous" " to say max max nails vehicular combat would be a disservice" - wow. that's grand praise. That sells me on the game tbh. If *anything* can capture the feeling in the film of cars smashing into each other in that desert, it's worth a try.
Wouldn't "Mad George Miller" be eponymous given that he's the creator? Unless I'm misunderstanding what eponymous means. I think titular is virtually the same anyway, no? And yeah man, the car mayhem is great. I think people sometimes consider it to be shallow, but I can't think of any other titles that do it better.
Making a Mad Max game video w.out a single viewing of any of the films? WoW! That's bold. FYI the game was highly influenced by the last release of Fury Road. Also the what bugs me is the question some ask after they finish M.M.-"What do I do now??" It's like...the game is HUGE, and you definitely won't finish it in just a weeks time, unless of course you do nothing for a whole week but play MM for 12 straight hours a day minimum.
I think the game deserves its own spotlight, and the films don't need to share that spotlight. It's good on its own merit. Also, yes, it's an enormous game, but only if aiming for 100% status. Otherwise, it's very manageable. End game is daunting for sure though. Thanks for watching 😁
Lol. Cool your jets, man. Of course I know Deacon is a biker. The point I was making was that EVERYONE uses bikes, and there are zero cars used in the game.
Mad Max is a great game with an enjoying combat and driving but with story, characters and mostly open world activities it doesn't even reach knees to Days Gone.
I literally could not continue Days Gone due to major bug issues stopping me from progressing. Maybe they have since fixed these bugs. I really enjoyed Mad Max back when it came out.
@@waltervanlille2263 Yeah it was the ps4 pro. It was a level where I had to sneak past these enemies while following a target so I had to both not be detected and keep up with the target and the game was telling me to throw rocks to distract them but every-time I did this, they went in my direction instead of the rock, I checked you-tube guides and this did not seem to be happening for them, without using this mechanic I did manage to get further but they kept finding me even though I was out of their line of sight or it would happen that I would fail because I was not following the target close enough even though they were not too far away. It definitely had to be a bug as it was not happening in any of the you tube videos. It was the first time I came close to actually putting a ps4 game on the floor and stamping on it in pure frustration. I never touched it since. I might give it a go again on the ps5.
@TheJiffy I think I played it in 2020, and I recall having to wait 8 hours for an update to finish, and it was pointless given the issues I had with bugs after. Ps5 should be a better option in future.
Easily my two favourite games of the last 10 years, and the only two games I've ever completed 100% (although I can't get the platinum for Max because of one lousy online trophy), both "mehed" by reviewers. Days beats Max by a narrow margin in my book though.
Thanks so much man 😁 really appreciate that! As much as I love those games, I honestly haven't got much to say about them that hasn't already been said by others. Maybe one day I'll have an epiphany though, so who knows 😁
Honestly I prefer days gone over mad max. Max story is cool but at the end (spoiler) he doesn’t change, nothing really happens every one he knew dies and he got his car back. I also liked decons crazy self rambles sounds like a guy who spends a lot of time by himself plus (spoiler) evolving freaks was kinda cool. Although the weird coincidence of deacon story was a bit much like it just so happens his wife worked and knew about the virus, she also knew the general, his old bike gang ex members just so happens to be the leader of the weird freaker cult. And the whole general turning evil was kinda a comp out
That's fair enough. I actually really like that Max didn't really change. It just cements his one dimensional stance. And (spoiler) giving up Chum Bucket after all they did is so cold, it's the ending the audience deserved. Days Gone's story is frankly one of the game's biggest downfalls to me. I find it so corny, I tend to roll my eyes during each cutscene. That said, I can't deny Sam Witwer did great voice over work as Deacon.
@@TheJiffy oh I get why max stays the same he’s been through so much the very second he let his guard down it all goes shit up. Like the death of mother and daughter and them saying to start new, max letting go of the snow globe hit hard, his blind rage and revenge that led him killing his only real friend. All that just so he can just go on and built those walls back up it’s like watching a wall survive a car crash max is so emotional detached and hollow. And yeag at times deacons story is a bit corny I mean rember that J rock wanna be villain although that junkie story hit a lil hard when deacon had to put him down
I loved the gameplay in mad max but the story was shit and every boss fight was the same. I never saw any of the technical issues everyone talked about in days gone so for me the gameplay and the story was amazing
Fair enough. I think the story in Mad Max is excellent. The issues revolve around its delivery. It's spread too thin across the game . The story in Days Gone has some good moments, but I honestly found most of it too corny, and like I mentioned in the video, predictable. Each to their own I suppose 😁 Thanks for watching!
@@TheJiffyas a person that hasn't seen any mad max movie, the ending was absolute dogshit in mad max. Days gone's story was alright. But damn was mad max repetitive.

Story wise, yes I agree, quite lacking. Although that's also a strength of Mad Max in some respects. As for things to do... I mean... there's lots to do, it's just a repetition. Thankfully it's fun regardless 😁
Madmax : Highly optimised, visually stunning environment and in world game, forced me to use cheats to complete the game, repetitive, bugs, meh storyline...not bad-not good.
Id say days gone the bigger game i completed both games too. Mm has good car combat and fist fightings like batman arkham. Ye petrol and vehicle damage + upgrades is were similarities end.
It get's better toward the end, with more horde encounters etc. But I personally wouldn't bother playing it to round up the story. It did very little for me. Mad Max is a blast though 😁
Yeah, I've heard a lot people struggle with it. I never have, but maybe I just got lucky. If you're interested in a suggestion from me, ignore all other cars right from the start. Focus all your fire power and damage on the leader. Good luck, and God speed 😁
Would have been better if WB hadn’t taken it away from George Miller and let him finish his version. Also they stole his production notes so there are some spoilers for future movies in the game
@@russbennett5470 I wasn't actually aware that George Miller had any input into the game's development, so this is really interesting to learn, thanks 😁

Mad max is a good game days gone is a shity game dont bother evan watching the video . I agree with playstation for calling it a failure gane is just blunt story boring gameplay boring quest boring lacks content it chooses mechanics from different type of games and butchers them . If u call a blunt experience without feel a game than go ahead buy it and play it .
Their presence in the game isn't the problem. The problem is the amount they actually appear and contribute to the story is few and far between. I say they're shoehorned in because they seem to only make an appearance at rare intervals to drive the narrative forward, and they end up feeling less like actual characters, but more like props.
So youre saying to finish days gone? I dont know why but i just cant... i dont care for any of the characters nor the story, the gameplay is arcadey and extremely boring. Gunplay isnt really fun.. a real bog to get through
Nah, I'm not saying you should finish it. I'm a firm believer in playing what you want. Life's too short to spend time playing games you don't enjoy. I found the story weak, characters largely forgettable. But I enjoy roaming around on a bike, taking on hordes, etc.

I just started playing days gone and I’m loving it and I also have mad max but I haven’t started yet hopefully soon 😊
Nice. I envy you having not played them. I would love to play them both for the first time again.
I'll pin these games against eachother, Days is far better. The slow bits were you have to walk with someone is the only downside.
Oh boy! Yeah, those exposition dumps are infuriating
Both games are amazing underrated gems.
These two on the PS4 I beat the most never get tired of them and ghost of tsushima and red dead 2
Mad Max ALL DAY. Days Gone was too many go across map for fetch missions. Now I didn’t finish it got to some old guy gang at bottom of map. I beat Mad Max and loved the traversal and car combat.
"titular"? 😡
all my homies say "eponymous"
" to say max max nails vehicular combat would be a disservice" - wow. that's grand praise.
@@TheJiffy eponymous and titular are synonyms yeah but i can't forget my A level English clit
Thanks for watching 😁
oooo the comparison i never knew i needed!!
Glad I could accommodate 😁
I'm on the other end. I have played days gone for years.now I find myself exploring the waistband with max.
Exploring the "waistband" eh? I don't think Max gets enough food to do much exploring of his waistband 😉
@@TheJiffy lol. He getting older.
I loved both of them, but I prefer Mad Max. I found the aesthetic, story, and gameplay more fun and interesting. I played through it twice!
13:11 bruh did you play the game ? Deacon is a biker thats why he prefers a bike how can you not know it?
Lol. Cool your jets, man. Of course I know Deacon is a biker. The point I was making was that EVERYONE uses bikes, and there are zero cars used in the game.
2 brutal games, both are amazing!
Id have to say days gone narrative sounds a bit like dead space one with nicole and issac
Hmm... That's an interesting take. It's been so long since I played Dead Space I can't comment on whether or not I agree.
Mad Max was my first PS4 game.
You could do far worse.
Mad Max should have got a remastered version of the game to tie in with Furiosa. Some better textures and lighting.
Mad Max is a great game with an enjoying combat and driving but with story, characters and mostly open world activities it doesn't even reach knees to Days Gone.
your insistence on no HUD makes me laugh! Great for videos, but when i play those games there's gonna be a hud 😆
Oh I play with HUD too, as minimal as I can possibly make it though. But for purposes of videos, it's all about the clean look 😁
Both games surpassed my expectations and now both have a special place in my heart
😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰
They're pretty damn special, eh! 😁
I literally could not continue Days Gone due to major bug issues stopping me from progressing. Maybe they have since fixed these bugs. I really enjoyed Mad Max back when it came out.
On the PS4?
I finished it on the PS5 with no issues...
Wouldn't be surprised if this issue was at launch. I recommend hearing back to it especially if you have a ps5 or decent pc
Very easy to soak dozens of hours into both without realising 😁
These 2 games are my Rog allys permanent games
Nice man. Decent choices for handheld gaming 👍
Days gone feels like a modern version of RDR undead nightmare.
That's a really interesting take. If only Rockstar made an Undead Nightmare for RDR2, eh?
What bitrate do you capture at?
Generally, I capture at 50mbps
I played mad max and super loved it. I’ll give days gone a try.
Nice! Hope you enjoy it 😁
My choice of game to finally play for 2024.
Both have mediocre endings for my say.
Good overall story.
Decent gameplay mechanics.
Dude, talk more about other games like max payne 3 & uncharted. U have good voice man. 👍
Each to their own I suppose 😁
Thanks for watching!
@@TheJiffyas a person that hasn't seen any mad max movie, the ending was absolute dogshit in mad max. Days gone's story was alright. But damn was mad max repetitive.
@@solid_2077thats the point of mad max at the end he always suffers and he cannot escape himself and his insanity its a loop that he’s stuck in madness and when he’s close to finally finding some peace its gone
@@Natan_Korkot doesn't make it better tbh.
Mad max was so dope i need to play days gone
Great video!
Thanks, SOFF! 😁
I think that both of the games lack of story execution and not much things to do. Still loved em tho
Mad max was so fun. Days gone was a slog I ended up not finishing
It get's better toward the end, with more horde encounters etc. But I personally wouldn't bother playing it to round up the story. It did very little for me. Mad Max is a blast though 😁
Im kind of playing Mad Max now. I was really emjoying it until the gastown race. That race is pissing me off.
Yeah, I've heard a lot people struggle with it. I never have, but maybe I just got lucky. If you're interested in a suggestion from me, ignore all other cars right from the start. Focus all your fire power and damage on the leader. Good luck, and God speed 😁
The races in general was my least favourite aspect in Max.
Gas Town isn't too bad if you use the recovery "pit stops"
What if mad max it's the sequel of days Gone🤔
you should try rage game 2011 its similar to mad max 👍
Thanks for the suggestion :) I actually played Rage when it first released. I liked it, despite it's flaws.
Really? Uhh... Pacman vs Skyrim which is better??!
Pacman
@@TheJiffy alright, you convinced me to pull out mad max and try it again, I just found it kind of boring, days gone is one of my favorites though
I finished Mad Max, while I got bored with Days Gone after 20 hours or so.
That's a shame, because days gone arguably improves with it's mechanics towards the end, with more hoards etc.
both great games but the characters dont really compare I like Austin but Max is way more bad arse
Austin?! Who the hell is Austin? 🤣 I assume you mean, Deacon?
@@TheJiffy yes deacan same shit, Austin st John was the red ranger from power Rangers
Madmax is such a great game
I whole heartedly agree 😁
Would have been better if WB hadn’t taken it away from George Miller and let him finish his version. Also they stole his production notes so there are some spoilers for future movies in the game
@@russbennett5470 I wasn't actually aware that George Miller had any input into the game's development, so this is really interesting to learn, thanks 😁
Days gone is alright it got super repetitive and boring after a while.. mad max gets very repetitive aswell but it doesn’t get boring, at least for me.
Mad max is better >>>
Days gone 2 days gone 2 days gone 2 days gone 2
Mad max is a good game days gone is a shity game dont bother evan watching the video . I agree with playstation for calling it a failure gane is just blunt story boring gameplay boring quest boring lacks content it chooses mechanics from different type of games and butchers them . If u call a blunt experience without feel a game than go ahead buy it and play it .

He doesn't want to build the ultimate machine he wants to build a car good enough to cross the plains of silence. You didn't really play it huh
Can't help but feel you're arguing over semantics. He's aiming to build a powerful vehicle, that we can both agree on.
I would’ve liked mad max if we didn’t have to have that mutant freak riding your back.
Whoa, why do you have beef with ol' chum bucket?
Hope and glory aren't shoehorned if you know anything about mad max
