Thanks for posting the video. I came across this because I needed to replace my alternator, and to do so, you have to remove the oil filter housing! (Bad design on BMW's part. The Bentley book mentions to do it from the bottom by dropping the bracket that supports the alternator, but I couldn't get the 3rd bolt off of the air compressor to get to that bracket!) On my 2009 N54, the socket I needed for the oil cooler lines was 13mm (you mention 6mm at 3:02). Also to you DIYers out there, he has really really good advice to blow the dust off the top of the intake manifold at 3:36!
@mathew gajewski i recently did both my housing and oil cooler fileter gaskets and i removed the bolts to the intake but i only removed it half way or enough to get to the bolt i didn't completely remove it
I have to replace my gaskets this weekend (have an oil leak and now see some oil in the coolant expansion tank) just wondering is there some kind of air leak like noise when these o-rings go bad?
magnificent diy i have one question to ask you, is it completely mandatory to loosen or remove the intake manifold? why i say is because im doing the same job on my 335i manual n54 platform and will be using a e10 swivel socket with extension to reach around to grab that hard to get bolt off i haven't quite mapped everything but just wanted your input on it first also I'm using a torque wrench to put the bolts back in place.
Interesting question considering you get the bolt off without lossing it, along with putting it back on. Im only curious because im in research mode since I to have to replace my oil filter gasket
Hi, What was the part number for Air Intake Manifold Gasket ? Did you replace Manifold Gasket as well ? Does it has 6 Gasket Part # 11617547242 and one Single gasket Part # 11617588624 ? for N54 Twin Turbo Engine ?
hi my name is Paul I see what you're doing with the air duct removing the air filter but the housing how do you take that off there's three types of screws I mean one type but there's three and I don't know how to loosen those to take the little housing for over the air filter goals can you text me I'm in the process right now thank
You shouldnt use the razor blade. It'll cause corrosion and ruin the surface and often you'll get pitting. but like the ending of the video lol good vide lol
LOL I wish every DIY was this entertaining! Gonna give this a shot next weekend. Thanks again!

Will this method work on a 2011 740Li(F02)?? It is very hard to find a video or any help for this car.

what is the name of the plastic part that broke of on the coolant hoes?
Any idea what (if anything) is different when doing this on an N55? Gasket is $30, dealer wants $950 for this job.
+mathew gajewski I think the difference is that on the n55 the oil filter housing gasket in on top and not on the side?
+Jonathan Camacho idk :( n54 and n55, i think the intake manifold has to be taken off for both. so i dont think ill be attempting this project.
+mathew gajewski shouldnt be hard

genius
Even independent shops want $500 for this job..
Looks like a pain in the ass. No wonder my Indy BMW shop is charging me $450.00 in labor
