    The way he explains it is from detail Duty tail and that is very well-documented and shows where everything goes very well done

    I did this repair on a 2005 645Ci. I agree, it is a very long and difficult job. Replace the seal on the alternator bracket while you are there.

    I just did one of these.
    Only thing I got wrong was the COP 1-8,
    The biggest hasel is putting the cover back on. Make sure you align the bottom first as it had 3 guilds on the inside lip. They go inside the head. Then push the cover down over the tubes.
    The cost for the set for both sides with timing cover was $400.00. It comes with new bushings for all the bolts.
    I had to replace the lower oil pan gasket. One of those servo bolts went into the head. As the oil return holes are big enough to let it go straight through to the oil pan. So stuff the holes with shop towels!

    great step by step video for the Valve Gasket and Timing Cover Gasket.
    Yeah, just finished mine. Took me 2.5 days as I tried to separate the task. Taking my time.
    Had to run get a few more orings a couple times at the BMW dealership.
    I normally buy everything from FCPEuro but forgot the timing gasket, Vanos Orings, there are 4 of them 2 large and 2 small ones. Then the Valtronic Servomoter o rings left and right.
    Then the orings for the camshalf sensor 4 total (2 for each side) and then the metal/rubber gasket for the Eccentric shaft sensor.
    I prefer to buy the valve cover from BMW OEM, they already provide new boths and gaskets and it fits better that way vs buying replacement gasket to install.

    Once I created clearance and freed the valve cover, the VC was loose enough to pull it up an inch. The spark plug tubes had adhered to the VC causing the VC to come out inline with the direction of the center line of the tubes. This prevented the VC from clearing the side wall of the passenger side. I put a screwdriver in each tube and gently pried the tubes loose. Once I did that the cover came out easily.

    Hi,
    can you make a video about removing and installing valvetronic motor and how to calibrate it

  • @61comanche
    @61comanche 10 лет назад +5

    Today I just finished replacing the gaskets of both Banks. It wasn't that hard . on driver side you have to remove power steering reservoir and move it to the side and move the heater valves also , the most important was the screw behind the alternator you have to take the idler pulley of (the one on the alternator) after remove the belt .loss the bottom bolt on the alternator and take the upper off , move it to have the access to the screw , when you take the cover off ,,, if the spark plug domes are still attached to the cover you have to take them off (its very hard but I took them off) other ways the cover will not comes out,
    the other side (the passenger side you have the loss the ABS motor and left it up and tie the harness that comes form the upper intake some were to make space for the cover to comes out.

    I need help... Some documents say that removing the valvetronic motor requires to turn counterclockwise, but I didnt and I felt some pressure while removing the last screw, until the valvetronic popped out with the last screw... Should I turn clockwise during the installation? Or just push it in with the screw as when removing?

    • @JC-yx1sc
      @JC-yx1sc 10 лет назад

      It does not matter as long as you can seat the valvetronic motor. The engine will set the valvetronic motor to the correct position before the engine will start anyways.

    I am going to be doing this repair on a 2008 BMW 750 Li N62N in a week and so I have all the parts and gaskets and seals, I have a couple simple questions:
    What are the TWO sensors on the front of the timing chain covers called?
    Are they the Camshaft sensors?
    Do they take the same size O-Ring seals as the camshaft sensors?
    Part number for them?
    This seems to be the last of everything I need - Thanks,Matt

    Hi Braden, I am working on my BMW X5 while watching your video. For the 2007 X5 4.8V, I cannot take out the ignition coil at the drive side inside ( no. 8? according to your numbering). It is loose. I am trying to pull out the Left side covering, is it possible. Stalled now. Any one had experience? I cannot give up now, also I dropped a T25 bit inside the Servomotor hole. Need to open the cover. I guess the routine procedure for the Dealers is to Lift out the engine, and do it on the outside. Is it true? I think I should have let BMW dealer do it for 4500 bucks. I am frustrated now.

    • @raz744u
      @raz744u 8 лет назад +1

      There is a small metal screw like sticking out, holding a plastic bracket for the heater hoses. Remove the plastic bracket and bend the stupid metal thing sticking out, even if you manage to take the coil out, you can't put it back unless you bend the damn thing! Happened 2 times, it's a nightmare to work on this vehicle!

    • @haipingwang7075
      @haipingwang7075 8 лет назад

      Thanks raz, I turned it to mechanics finally when I was totally exhausted to just moving the cap. It also turned out I messed more gaskets. So I get back to the mechanic twice did all upper gaskets. 2500 bucks + self hire mechanic 300 and self bought parts tools 200. So it is 3000 job. Dealer ask 4300 there is sense there.

    • @raz744u
      @raz744u 8 лет назад

      +Haiping Wang
      Makes sense to do everything when you are in there. Valve cover gaskets, front timing gaskets, excentric shaft seals, camshaft orings, front actuators orings, spark plugs and tubes. I always recommend that to my customers, because the labor is so extensive, you don't want to go back in there for a leaking oring. Regardless of the complexity, the job should not have been that expensive, maybe it depends where you are. It should take max 12 hrs. Parts are not that much. Why do they charge 4000?

  • @antoinemedley
    @antoinemedley 8 лет назад

    To do this did you need to move or remove the alternator? Had a guy tell me he had to remove it to do this job. He stated there was a difference if my alternator was water cooled or air cooled. Any validity to that?

    • @petersorbo4317
      @petersorbo4317 8 лет назад

      +Antoine Medley Yes there is a bracket that the alternator mounts to which will prevent you from getting the timing cover off. Unfortunately that alternator bracket extends around the block behind the engine mount bracket. It also has a seal you will need.

    • @violenceprotest
      @violenceprotest 3 года назад

      @@dflex4180 The tubes were not supposed to be removed. Working on these cars takes an extreme amount of pre thought in order to create cost efficient methods of repair. The 650i engine is no joke, if you make an error and break something it could take weeks to get the right parts, you could also get caught up in ECU troubleshooting. If something doesn't need to be touched and you can avoid it?, by all means trust me don't do it. As if you do ? and something breaks or needs to be reset such as the valvetronic motors? , your in for a ride. On that ride all you are going to hear is , "No , we don't have that part" or "Yes we have it", its shipped out in a week you receive it only to find its incompatible, 2 weeks gone and going, or you ask BMW for it and they try to convince you to trade the car in, because they don't have the part. It can be a horrible experience if you do not do it right from the beginning. Some parts attach to other parts like the small sensors, plugs and connectors on the hoses and electrical cords, finding those is not easy.
