    I live in zones 7-8. Bought a beautiful vines up boug last summer. Left it in garage during winter. It did not rebloom this spring. Even after fertilizing and placing in the sun. The garage was too cold. Yesterday I bought another. This time will keep it inside the house when winter comes. Thank you for your video.

    Hello. I’ve just subscribed after watching your video as you’re similar to myself! Living in UK and growing all desi vegetables and flowers. Great to share with gardeners with same interests. I’ll go through all your other videos soon. Just bought a bougainvillea plant and looking for information. Thank you so much.

    I enjoyed your presentation immensely thank you so much. I am in Canada (zone 3) and have been gifted a thoroughly abused Bougainvillea recently. She is trying very hard to put on some new growth for me. Hopefully I will get some colour from it in the next while.

      I am from Iran & I did bought 3 pots of Bougainvillea last year. I live in a region where winters might go below -9. The 3 went through ups & downs, almost dead with no leaves, however they are not only in full health but blooming like crazy.
      Don’t loose hope, they need sun & water & food of course.
      However, they need to be stored in a greenhouse in winter.

    I love Bougainvillea Louise, they remind me of my trips to Spain (one of my favourite places to visit). I've considered growing one, but wasn't really sure how I best to protect it. There are some excellent tips on how to care for them here, If I ever get one I will refer back to this video.
    I'm pretty sure Manchester is in the green zone (zone 8) on that map, not that it really matters as the US climate zones don't really apply too well to the UK climate. I think my location is considered either 8B or 9A depending on the map you look at, this winter has certainly tested those lows lol 🥶

    Newbie here to your channel Louise and I’m so glad I found it. I bought a bougainvillea in Lidl this year and she is a beauty (£9.99). Its flowered twice for me which is great but I know it won’t live through winter outside so I’ve brought it inside. I’ve put it in the spare bedroom which has plenty of light and obviously frost free. Could I prune it now as all the bracts have dropped off since bringing it indoors or should I wait until January time. I live in Yorkshire not too far away from where you are? Deb

    • @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000
      @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000  Год назад

      I wouldn't prune it just now, wait until spring. It will drop its leaves due to change in its environment, but they should grow back. Both of mine have started to grow new leaves now. Glad to see you visiting my channel. 😊

    Hello, I live in Turkey. Can Bougainvillea Trees be grown in Trabzon? The climate is temperate and has the same climate as the United Kingdom. Could you please answer my question?
    (The average lowest temperature in Trabzon in winter is 4.4 °C.)

      My bougainvillea trees are not cold hardy and I bring them inside before the November frost starts. I don't know what kind of cold temperatures you have there. I would check with your local garden centres if they recommend varieties that will grow in your climate.

    Louise, I've got quite a bit of dead looking woody bits on my Tesco Bougainvillea's, do you reckon pruning them now would be a good idea, these branches did nothing last year and they're not looking promising at all at the moment? Not sure if I'm brave enough to cut off the tops of my new growth though, make sense I guess.

    • @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000
      @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000  11 месяцев назад +1

      Where is your Bougainvillea indoors or out? My 2 bougainvilleas dropped all their leaves and there was just bare wood, and this was after bringing them indoors. They are now in full leaf. I would leave those branches until the summer. If by that time no leaves have grown on the branches then prune them.

      @@louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 Indoors at the moment, will be till April when I start to acclimatise them to outdoors gradually, bringing them in at night. Mine are doing well, like yours - lots of new growth, but one of them has a whole section that looks inactive/dead, I'll take your advice and leave the cutting till the summer, guess they might spring into life in the spring?

  • @someblokecalleddave1
    @someblokecalleddave1 5 месяцев назад

    Louise, 10 mins into your vid here you do some pretty brutal pruning - how has that worked out this summer? Did you get a decent growth spurt and flowers as planned? Also, did you try and get the section (Cutting) you cut off to grow - did that work? Mine are doing well at the moment, all got lots of bracts and some growth, I'd like to see a lot more growth as I'm trying to train them to grow a across a wall.

      @@someblokecalleddave1 oh I got plenty of growth, lots of green leaves but with this terrible summer there are no flowers, there hasn't been enough sun up here in Manchester. In past years I've had them flower indoors but very late in the year or early spring..

      @@louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 Be good to see some footage of your plants a year on to see the impact of the pruning. Mine have done pretty well, lots of flowers and are still in the garden. If it's 6 degrees or lower I cover them (Twice so far) and will probably do this right through till the end of October dependent on how the weather pans out. Currently though, they're producing new growth and another set of bracts, so not sure how that'll work out with the light diminishing rapidly as we move into Autumn proper. I'm tempted to prune them quite hard as I'm trying to get them to grow enough to span a wall 12' wide and that might be the solution?

    The Tesco ones are a dwarf Variety I've discovered Louise and they're pretty slow growing, I've got a few now and they've hardly grow at all.

      @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000  Год назад

      Currently my 2 bougainvilleas are indoors. They both dropped their leaves initially, and now have regrow them all back. The main thing is keeping them a bit on the dry side in winter but plenty of light.

    • @someblokecalleddave1
      @someblokecalleddave1 Год назад

      My 'Tesco' ones had a rough summer, in Feb just as they were starting to produce buds, the were attacked by aphids and you advise me to brush them off with a stiff paint brush which worked, but I think the aphids had done some damage, so over the summer they didn’t flower much and looked poorly. Then around Oct they dropped their leaves, but then late Oct - early Nov they all growing and produced leaves and started to become active again and they’re looking pretty healthy. I’m watering them once a week and they’re in a fairly light position, they’re upstairs in an area that allows them to dry out quite quickly.
      I’ve bought a Barbara Karst which was shipped in from Italy and I’ve had that since mid October, that’s still growing and has the same leaf coverage that it arrived with. This is currently starting to shed the odd leaf, which is seems to do towards the end of the week when it’s due to be watered, so I’m not sure if I’m under-watering it or what? I kind of feel like if I over-water it, that might be far more detrimental. Normally by now, based on previous yeas, they’re all bare of leaves. Tricky plants these.
