You’re so nice and clear. Thank for the video At what distance from the wall should I plant it, if I want it to climb the wall an a pergola next to it? Many thanks! Greets from Chile 🌱
I’m so glad I came across your video! I am about to plant my BV that’s been in its container for too long and almost was going to go at the usual way by removing it from the pot and loosening the roots! Thanks I will heed your advice!
Thank you so much for this wonderful information, we planted 3 of them in the fall 2021, I’m certain that they had a frost bite, they are slowly coming around.
Thank you for this info! I bought a beautiful bougy in a 5 gal pot, and didn’t know if I should repot or leave it. Now I can feel confident it will be good where it is! 🌺🎋🌸 hopefully the 4-5 hours of direct sunlight will be ok.
so helpful! I planted a bougainvillea last weekend and it immediately looked unhealthy. Now I know why - the root ball was seriously compromised. I'll get another and plant it in the grow pot. Thanks!
Hi Nell. Thanks for the informative video. I’ve followed your advice and planted my Bougainvilla in their pots in the ground, amending the clay soil first with lots of compost. I know Bougainvilla grows here because I already had 2 established plants in my garden when I moved here. My question is in the pots the Bougainvilla grew in a sort of coconut coir rich medium, which seems to dry out very quickly. Should I be watering extra into the pot in the earth, or more in the compost/native earth that the pot is now planted in? If I water into the pot will it stop the roots from wanting to grow through the slits into the native soil/compost? Hope you find the time to answer… Greetings from sunny south Spain
Informative video, thank you. One thing that has me scratching my head, keeping the pot around the plant may protect the roll ball but it would seem to be more susceptible to root rot, as the plastic would prevent drainage & capture moisture. With that in mind, if you are extremely careful with the root ball would it be best to plant without that plastic pot?
I have at least 4 bougainvillea, I took all of them out of the pot, I keep them in containers, I only had a problem with one, dropped most of it leaves but survived, they are hardy plants but could go through ugly stages.
I planted a potted Bougainvillea glabra in the garden soil, without the pot, and it is doing great, very beautiful and full of pink flores. I'm against leaving plastics inside the growing medium as they contaminante the soil. Although plastics need hundreds of years to completely decompose, it deteriorates with time and throw particles to the growing material. Plants may absorbe them and eventually they contaminate the food chain as leaves may end in the compost material.
Nice video. But mine were transplanted many times and so far, they are still all ok. From small container to medium size pot and now in much bigger size plant box.😊
Am trying to do a hedge along my wall I bought a few from nursery there still in planter bags the black ones Any tips u can give me would be very helpful thanks
Living in a Rainy climate, I was afraid that my Boug's would drown.. So.. I placed 2" of Coconut Fiber in the bottom of each hanging basket so the potting medium would get some aeration. Seems to be working :)
I just purchased 4 of these plants. 2 of them have very healthy leaves, but only 2 of 5 branches on the plant has flowers. What should I do to get nice blooms all the way around? I purchased them from home depot so I doubt they received the necessary care they need. Also, I live in an apartment. Any fertilizer you can reccomend that doesn't require multiple ingredients and mixing? I don't have that kind of storage or space to work in..
Thank's Nell I have A veragated Rasberry Ice one It is Beautiful. I love the veragated one's. It looks like more of A ground cover or Shrub are something. The leaves Turn A pretty pinkish red I don't see any bracks. or flowers
Thanks for the videos. Am in Thailand, got 20m wall to cover with Bougainvilleas ? Hibiscus / thin palm trees. Shops are telling me : 30cm only between each bougainvilleas, really ? i thought a 1m or 2 ? and 50cm between palm trees and bougainvilleas ? same for Hibiscus 30cm between each !...I start to think they only want to sell more. What is your opinion please about distance between each ?
So the roots don't like being disturbed, so gouge them with the sharp end of a pruner, and if that doesn't work rip through their delicate flesh with a razor blade. Then suffocate them with the pot in soil, and force the delicate roots to grow through tiny slits of jagged plastic!! I don't know anything about plants but I know I'm not doing that.
Christina Von Heidenstam not that often keep the soil damp and then let it dry before watering again. The plant my suffer more from over watering then litte watering
I believe the idea of leaving plants in their plastic pots to protect the root ball have little effect and does not outweigh the restrictions it does to root balls. No way would plant like that.
What soils and dirt should I use when planting in a pot? I heard to mix organic soil with peat moss, garden dirt and perlite, is that wrong? I bought the stuff already and want to repot my plant soon 😃
Any soil will do. Porous soil, with good drainage is best. They are native to Hawaii which has porous, entirely lava soil and tends to be clumpy. They were found there on he semi-rainy side of the islands.
Transplanting them is not hard at all. They will loose their leaves but give them a little time and they will come back. One of the toughest plants around!!!! Not rocket science .
You’re so nice and clear.
Thank for the video

So when the roots are coming out of the pot, should i transfer it to a new bigger pot .
Thank you for the great tips. I'm glad that I found your video. I plan on planting later today and would not have known about the pot :) Thanks again!

They are evergreens year round so it in the shade that’s why it’s not fully blooming it needs full sun only
The more sun, the more blooms.

😂
How much must one water it

Panzer Krieg )
I use horse manure and nothing else. Plants blossom most of the year in FL.
Nice 😃✌️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Can you please tell me the main reason to leave the plant in the container?
Does bougainvillia roots like tight spaces ??
Yes indeed, I have huge Bouggies into bonsai containers...

I would ask a question but I hardly see any answers of any kind guess I gotta ask the experts 🔮
Thank you !!
What if u want to put in pot do u still leave it in the container it came in? Great video
I put an Aloe in a pot, still leaving it in the container and it looks amazing!
Correction: Sorry, my tablet is in Spanish and it wrote "flores" when I meant "flowers".
You should show
Those bougainvillea are almost as pretty as you!
