  • Here's half an hour in my life gathering source material for cool sounds. Some of these sounds will reappear as film music/sound design, background atmospheres in a song, a playable keyboard patch, I don't know. Then I stop after half an hour - any longer than that and I'll never go back and see what I did.
Violin via pedal board (partially - full description below for the nerds)
Some people could watch transfixed a whole 30 minute set of this stuff - if that's you, this is for you. You have more patience than I do.
    INGREDIENTS:
Violin. Thanks for the lend, Bruce! Bowed, plucked, hit, for one section with a pedal steel bullet slide
3 microphones: AKG 414 / Shure PG81 / piezo (latter occasionally sang through)
The pedals: from (my) left to right
    - Crybaby wah (for filtering/narrowing scope of sound)
    - Wampler Ego Compressor (good for keeping dynamic range AND ego in check)
    - Proco Rat (mostly unused; tends to take over)
    - Earthquaker Grand Orbiter (phaser)
    - Earthquaker Afterneath (reverb)
    - Boss RC20XL loop pedal
    - Boss DD20 delay
Signal split with one going via Axe FX guitar amp modeller (Roland JC-120)
Signal chain post computer: recorded hearing Soundtoys' EchoBoy to compensate for faulty ping-pong stereo delay on pedal / UAD Neve console, 1176 limiter, Studer A800 tape machine
