I fully support all these companies out there trying to give us a better product and a better price and anyone that keeps TRAXXAS on their toes is just a plus.🤙
I have done several hours on both and one thing that many reviewers don’t mention but is worth mentioning - for out of box durability, this Traxxas is far superior. Both are very fun and crawl nicely, but within hours, my FMS rear driveshaft broke, followed by the front differential. After replacing those, the transmission was next. Then the rear differential. This is all just low gear crawling, not bashing. I’d accept this all, if it were a far better crawler, but it just isn’t - they are pretty equivalent. The FMS is more detailed and two gears is kinda handy but it comes at the downside of being a much more fragile rig. In the time I’ve replaced and upgraded nearly everything on the FMS (out of necessity), nothing on the Traxxas has broken except a side mirror. As you can imagine, the Traxxas gets probably twice as much use while the FMS is needing parts.
that's odd, the only think I've had break on my lc80 is the bumper, I have atleast 30 hours or so crawling on it. I've found the fcx18(24) platform quite durable
Note about the “annoying indicators” On the original 1/18’s, FMS had separate wiring and jst plugs on the esc/receiver for the lights and indicators. So you can keep the lights and ditch the indicators by just unplugging the turn signal wire from the board. Likely the same on this new fcx18.
was kinda hoping for something that would be more in scale with the scx24 but this is pretty cool, kinda weird you can't take the body off since you can on the fcx24
Looks like a nice new rig! I have the TRX4-M Bronco. Yeah, out of the box is good, but roof for improvement! For about $100 (shipping included) you can get brass wheels, soft tires, high clearance links, extension hexes, new motor and crawler gears. I used all Injora stuff, but there are a lot of good sites. It is a totally different truck now. Thanks for the video! Always nice to see new stuff.
Never bought one thankfully. I severed my relationship with Traxxas back in 2015 and have been happy with every manufacturer's vehicle but theirs ever since. Something from FMS is on my buy list next!
Been debating what small scale crawler to get and this just made the decision for me. All the features I'd want from any mini crawler at basically the same price point they're all at.
Very cool. Phil, with your electrical experience wouldn't you be able to muddle up a quick fix to keep the indicators and brake lights on all the time?
Looks like I'll be adding another to the collection. I bought the Smasher V2 for the nostalgia of Big Foot, but wanted to get more into crawling. Looks like this fills that gap and gives me a good platform to still use my brass upgrades that I already have. Well done FMS, and great video Tomley!
Looks like the old ROC Hobby Katana body on a better chassis and better electronics, should be a good seller then. just do what I do, cut the wires to the indicators!
Good comparison great to see new FMS can't wait to see what new bodys they come up with to put on it. The only thing I like about the 4m's is the quiet operation nice for hiking.
