Cool. Never done a raspberry pi before. I am looking forward to doing this.
pre ordered mine. Broke the bank, but you guys deserve it!
What raspberry pi do we need?
UNeed2Sm1le Zero W
Cool, thanks MikeTheSith200.
You could use a fabric covering for the ribbon cable as protection at the hinge
+Ryan Officer hey that's a great idea - can probably find various colors too. Thanks! :)
wermy hey if you were to sell them fully made and send them out gow much would you vharge cause i really want one but only get not alot of pocket money
wermy Instead of having a raspberry with mint leaves engraved on the red piece of 3d printed plastic, you should engrave a piece of pie with mint leaves......minty-pi
If you find them, will you be linking them in your forum post?
Abro 3869 That's a great idea! Though I think the pie from the RetroPie logo would look even nicer and will have a "deeper" meaning to it
i'm so glad i stumbled across your videos, this project gets better with every new video
Can't wait for final instructions! I love it so far!
I've been following for a while, and I'm inspired by what you've achieved. I've already started buying parts, a soldering kit, and a multi tool kit to get started. I'm definitely doing this as a project, even though I've not touched a soldering iron in at least 15 years. Best of luck!
absolutely love this channel! keep doing what you're doing and keep up the great work!
Awesome project! Im definitely all over this. Cant wait for the final version.
I'm so excited to do this!!!
I can't wait until its all ready and I can make my own. :)
Love these little projects but I never have enough time to research and build my own parts, this is perfect, can't wait until its all available.
Thank you so much for this!
wow, props to you for going all out on this one
Thank you so much for doing this! looks like it will be a fun summer project.
Can't wait for the the parts kits to become available.... this looks so awesome!
Love the neat upgraded version Wermy. Great video!
Absolutely cannot wait. Thank you!
I've been waiting for this! Such a cool product!
So close indeed! can't wait to play awesome games on the go from a super fancy portable game console ! Thanks for making it possible
DrunkCarni and if you use the tin without any graphical changes, you can really throw people off and confuse them!
Awesome Work, can't wait to see the guide and put my order in.
YES! I've been waiting with this fresh smelling tin very anxiously! :D
Cool! I love how portable this is!
Can't wait to get it! currently I'm building a retropie based portable myself, 3D printing the case. I'm in the process of 3D designing it on an online program called Tinkercad and I just need a battery and a power boost! Anyway, great video as always, I love your little hand gestures at the sides of the shot, keeeeeeeeeeep making!
Seeing that you found some parts that work better and will even be selling some custom parts is making the wait worth it! I've gone through 2 mint tins at this point 😅
New screen and backplate looks so clean :D
I especially love the "best by" mark on that device
You sir are a very talented man
Awesome videos man! Can't wait to make my own!
So glad to finally see some update. May I ask you to give us a part list for us? So that I can prepare the parts first while you put up the tutorial
I see a lot of people in the comments here asking for premade versions of this project. They either seem to be lazy or scared to do it themselves.
I just want to let you guys know that I built my own Raspberry Pi portable game console without following a guide or with pre selected parts. When I started this project, I had no idea how to even solder wire or anything really about electical components as I am a programmer and not an electrician. It was a learning experience for sure but I can tell you that the Minty Pi is practically a cake walk to assemble compared to my attempt. The hard work is already done for you. I would say there is honestly no reason to be scared of buying the components and building it yourself. I'm gunna risk sounding like an asshole, but there really is no excuse.
I encourage everyone to do it themselves :)
Darian Alexander what if i dont have an altoids tin?
Logen M I both simultaneously love and hate your comment.
Yeah. I agree. People should make this by themselves, it's a good thing, you gain experience and get skills on how to do this sort of stuff. IMO it's more fun too.
So if I buy all the altoids tins and a lot of these kits, then I could sell them for $100? Would that be worth it?
Yep, that is the whole point of the pi, is to learn how to do this themselves. Otherwise, you could just go buy an android tablet for $47. And then download an emulator app to play the retro games on it.
im so glad i found this so very glad
Can't wait to start making one of these
Can't wait for a guide!
cool! cant wait to build it!
IT GETS BETTER EVERTIME
can't wait till this goes on sale
I can't wait to make it
cant wait for the guide!!!!!!
Take my money now 🙀 i need one of these 👀 watching and waiting :)
I have 3 recommendations: 1: Make it have a sensor in the lid(like a button at the end of the thing that holds it open) so if you close the lid the raspberry Pi goes into standby mode when you close the lid. 2. Remove the power switch and make a power button. 3. Make it so that it outputs power if you connect a USB OTG cable by connecting the gate pin of a transistor to the 5th pin of the USB port, the emitter to the 5 volt pin and the collector to the output of the charger circuit so that you can use it as a power bank.
dude.. you are my savior
This is pretty cool, and I'll most likely get one.
I was able to find one of those as seen on tv "aluminum" wallets which look a lot cleaner, so I'm problally going to use it as a case instead.
can't wait to order a kit :)
A magnet sensor to turn the screen off when closed would be nice too ;P But probably too much to ask for already :D
EpicLPer That's a great idea, I hope it will be implemented
its already simple enough, making it too complicated is just asking for problems.
You are legit everywhere
or just take them off of broken DS lites
make it vourself it would be easb
I found the same exact mint case today!
I'd love a retropi system that is completely 3D printed, sanded and painted to whatever color.
cant wait
Thank u
Thats awesome!
I swear upon the moon, I will build one. Thank you good sir.
Looks alot more cleaner
I hope that these go for sale soon! I CANT WAIT! lol pls let me buy one
This is Beautiful 😍😍😍
This is awesome... why does there always have to be people who dislike the video???
I can't o electronics, but you inspired me to buy a pi 3, and setup my own retro gaming console, I wish I know how to solder and understood electronics.
love it!!!!
My body is ready!!!
You are too cool bro mintyPi the best
Would love to see a "kit" with all the parts and what not included :)
Can't wait C:
Apologies if this might sound pretentious or something, but will you be selling premade versions when the entire project is complete? As someone who's much better with software than he is hardware, the idea of building one absolutely terrifies me...
Myzma a pre order for this kinda thing could be really good
Myzma -- Pretentious doesn't mean what you think it does...
ya, can we plz get a premade version!!!!!!!!!! I'm only 14 and can't do much project wise
cheerio thecheerio yea, im 15 and i need tu learn basic knowledge about this, but i would have to wait lot of years :c #PremadeVersion
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you can legally sell a system like this because it's an emulator. But you could probably sell the unit if it does not come with retropi already installed.
CHIPZEL IS AMAZING SHE MAKES ALL HER MUSIC WITH OLD GAMEBOYS
This is so cool
I would love to buy one already made
This is so cool! Are you going to sell everything here together in pretty much a 'foolproof' bundle? If so, I really want one. Oh! Does this have a headphone jack? I assumed it did, but just making sure. :) Looking forward to seeing where this goes!
Nice.. The setup script is awesome.. Maybe you can package a version of Retropi as Mintypi which will already have the sound and video etc..
I can't wait for more PCB's to be available as I want one. I have a mint tin, buttons, RPI zero w, power module (small one as described here), battery and 2.2" screen. I just need that PCB now and i can start assembly. I might even not 3d print a bezzel. I was thinking about making a wood finish one.
can't wait whoooooo
I have no idea why this got downvoted. Great work.
I would love to buy one
really exited for this project. but question and maybe it's obvious but y not cut out a hole for the hdmi so that I could be used as a consol as well?
So i just found this guy and let me tell you...I think i found a hobby for hardware
Can't wait till you release the CAD files, definitely gonna make a variation that accepts n3DS buttons. (because those are readily available from china and have nice colours)
as a battery charger / psu you could use an 18650 powerbank pcb which costs 1$
This is a really neat project, and I love it. The concern I mainly have, however, is about the L and R buttons on the back. Are they comfortable to use? Is there a way to possibly make them more like shoulder buttons, maybe extending the sides to make them more rectangular in shape? I would be completely happy with using them if they felt natural enough to use, but I think they look a little weird, with them supposed to be shoulder buttons and all.
Incredible creative work Wermy! Totally in live with this project :)
One question: will you be able to offer a bundle with all the parts you showed today? Screen+ribbon cable+custom pcb+power boost+all 3d printed parts? I'm not sure I can find a cheap source for that tiny power boost in europe :)
the hype is real
Question: Do I have to have hardware tools to make it? Or can I just use regular things like screws and such?
Gotta get to soldering practice soon...
This is awesome! Any plans to do something like this for the Gameboy Zero?
Super Cool Portable Gaming Device
Does the Gameboy Zero run off of the battery directly like this does?
have you thoght about a way to add a headphone jack to this to use in places where you might not want to bother other people with the sounds?
i just have one question - how is the speaker hooked up to the Pi Zero ? am I missing a video some where?
If you don't mind me asking... what was the source for the component you used to replace the adafruit powerboost?
yee cant wait like if the same
Hi wermy I love the minty pi I was wondering if can buy one already assembled if not is there a kit that I can pre-order and if there is do I have to solder becuase I don't have a soldering gun. also one more thing do you get to select the game for the minty pi? Thanks
Question about your script - if you change Select+R and Select+L to adjust volume, then how do you do manage save states? Aren't those typically mapped to saving and loading of save states?
Hey wermy just a question if I want to make the winter green mintypi where can I get the red DS lite buttons because I couldn't find it on the preorders
Would 3Ds buttons work with the 3d printed parts? or would modifications be needed?
I got a 3DS ad infront of this video, an ad I have never seen before.
how much do you wanna bet people looking up 3DS stuff clicked on this video because the thumbnail looks like a weird 3DS? lol
NICE MAN!
this is amazing... a new way to sneak videogames into school... GIVE THIS GUY A HAND 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 edit: wait how do I make this
it's another quick update
you should add mini HDMI in a headphone jack and 2 usb ports to essentially make a retro gaming console on the go and for use on a larger tv (basically a nintendo switch for retropie)
Now I only need to find out where I can buy Altoids in my country. :D
(eagerly awaits the release of your 'how-to' video(s))
(Also, n00b question, and quite possibly, a stupid one) My soldering skills/attempts "usually" (more like 'always') result in a paperweight - would a GPIO header somehow work with this build? Thanks in advance.
I'm new to this whole deal of ordering custom circuit boards.
Are these custom boards likely to only be produced in limited quantity?
Can they ship to UK on the cheap?
Can I take the various board plans and get them printed via another service locally?
Seriously loving this project! Can't wait to hopefully make my own in the near future!
how much is this project gonne cost (i already have a 3d printer, so basicly only the electronics) and what concols can it emulate
ps how much storage does it have? srry just quite exited for this project
I want to make a minty pi ,but I just have one question.
When can I buy the screen and pcb set?
this is the very important part of this project
but it is out of stock
and I just prepared the other parts of the minty pi.
Please hurry and make this i want to go to school with it and be like I'm just going to open up this candy box to get a mint or something but really I'm playing video games!
i need to buy one of these would be sweet to throw on my desk
Is there any device that we could attach to make the battery life any longer? Maybe like a little extension or something?
what kind of speakers and battery do i need?
Pretty cool man. Is that candy available online somewhere? The tin doesn't come in the package right?
