I read about this enclave, in 'Farewell Espana'. At the time, I couldn't have imagined I'd get to see it in a RUclips video (or that there would be a RUclips...). The place is far prettier than I had imagined.
Thank you for making these videos. My family had a few oddities: hand signs, boys must cover their heads and my dad knowing a bit of Yiddish. Then one day I got a good translation of the Torah in English and then I stumbled upon the Talmud and brought them home. When my father found my hidden books he had such a big smile on his face. I asked him if he knew what I had and all he said was of course I do. Then he said I thought you'd be hiding drugs like your classmates not these books. Then I said but we're Christians and then all he said is are we?
500 years of struggle, it wasn’t corrupted, the Crypto Jews did the best that they knew how in a hostile environment. I got a glimpse of the artistic railing behind Dr. Abramson & the tour guide, I was hoping the tour guide to point it out. There’ll be another trip 😁. Thank you for sharing.
Closer to the Spanish border on the Douro, near Miranda do Douro (Portugal, right on the border with Spain on the river) is the small village of Carção, which has a menorah on its crest, and has a significant Jewish history. Nearby Carção is a field where Spanish Jews fled to in 1492 and were tolerated in harsh conditions.
Bension Netanyahu was a history professor of mine at Cornell; he wrote "The Origins of the Spanish Inquisition", which I know is a somewhat controversial work, but it has left me deeply skeptical of accounts of centuries long secret practice of Judaism, even allowing his interpretation may be excessive at points. Dr. Netanyahu was a monumental historian, but did not have the ability to make his subject accessible to the educated lay public as Henry Abramson can.
A lot of talk and little action, because when many were expelled and live far away and with the psychological ills that the Christian inquisition took action in these Sephardic families, it was serious ! And today I see walks, with beautiful sayings and little support action even, and a lot of non-Sefardite thinking for those who wish to reconnect the sefaradi tradition. Krypto Jews are the Jews of that time and those who fled to the Americas, build New York, supported the English crown with important services, and today are asking for crumbs of attention, in a Portugal and Spain still ant-Semitic. A part of the haMazon bircat is not to rebuild any place other than Jerusalem, our capital and indivisible sacred city.

What's with the cliffhanger? spill the beans. Is your dad Jewish or not?

Was R'Stewart Weiss of Ra'anana a part of this? He just wrote an amazing article in the Jerusalem Post about his recent visit to Belmonte.
Incredible
I know, right?

i wanted to see the local families and the general community; why were they not interviewed, please.
Hi. What is the air temperature in that village?
You can search the Internet. Right now it's 16 Celsius and a small rain.
@@zedwart8534 thank you
