Discovering the truth about Porto's Jewish heritage

- In this special episode of Holy Land Uncovered, our Emily Frances is on location in Porto, Portugal, to explore the country's deep Jewish history, the trauma of the Inquisition, and the revival of the Jewish and Israeli-expat community that is growing there today.
Go inside Porto's synagogue, a hallmark of the community with its Sephardic-style, it's also the largest synagogue on the Iberian peninsula.
The newly created Holocaust & Jewish museum marks the history of Jewish presence in the city. Half-a-millennia ago, Jews made up almost 20% of Portugal's population. But the Inquisition kicked them out, forever changing the country's landscape. We visit the Jewish museum to dive deep into this dark chapter of Jewish and Portuguese history, as well as the newly-created Holocaust museum, which marked a turning point as many Jews returned to seek refuge.
Today, Porto is a popular tourist destination, and its small Jewish community can be described as thriving once again.

sure , and they all come from outer space and are in fact aliens... so much nonsense . What is todays Portugal abd Spain has been occupied for many millenia before here was a jewish peole , before the phoenicians. There are many megalithic monuments attesting to that. definetely not an empty land. Is it possible that ancient jewish people went there? sure it is possible, as so many other peoples. But claiming that all lisbon is of jewish ancestry is the same as saying all lisbon is of arab or north african ancestry . You can all claim that all jewish people are of ancient iraq and iran ancestry

The world is so messed up. Anytime humanity disengages from God they go wayward. Beautiful Jewish work and upkeep in Portugal.
There are studies in name origins and how they changed thru history. Israel's tribes including Judah are prophesied to be as numerous as sand of the sea. The population explosion of last 3 century's created over 2 billion people today with Israel ancestry. Estimated 400 million from Judah today.
Names morph through languages. Yagur becomes yaegar to mick jagger. Yona becomes yonas to yones to Jones. God has done an amazing thing.
I'm from Canada. I was in Portugal. I signed up for a tour that included Jewish sites but so sad it was cancelled. Would love to go back to Portugal. I have been to Israel three times.

And this institution still exists today, with a very wealthy bank that operates without regulations. Thanks for recalling Spharadim, a people who BY BLOOD are of Judaean descent. "Limpieza de sangre" was the process... with documentation to cleanse OUR BLOOD. The church knew we were Judaeans but complying with Moses welcomed a death sentence.

I was researching whether my half brother's mother whose name was Rodrigues could possibly have a Jewish background and now I am receiving all of these videos. It is possible but most Portuguese with this surname claim to be Roman Catholic but it may have been forced upon them during the times of the Inquisition.
