    The DS sticks are a pan on a stick. But I’ve seen others use as a crayon or pencil. But use it the way you want to. I believe the sticks are equivalent to 3 or 5 half pans.

    Hi Stephanie, What a treat to see your video today. I am watching the holiday ones. I have been getting huge deals since Prime days on Amazon this year. I only have done a few small orders on Blick because I needed oil paints for my oil paint class. I also got the Hahnnemule set for also for 14ish dollars. I order the Artxx journals which are on sale through Amazon. I have scored on Daniel Smith paint sets since summer which is a great savings. I wanted to share that one of my viewers told me that if Daniel Smith paints do not rewet easily that the paint is probably older. Well this summer I tested that theory and all of my sets including half pans the DS paints rewet like butter. So my viewer was correct I probably had bought older tubes that once dry were hard as a rock to rewet. I am so happy with my new collection of DS paints since summer until recently which I got the 15 half pan on plastic and another small plastic that came in for free ready to go for $39 on Amazon. I notice since Prime sales that Amazon deals come in around 1AM-5AM are the best deals. I wake up for early Mondays and Wednesdays for my oil paint class so that is how I started to spot the sales. I live in California so adjust accordingly to your time zone. Happy Thanksgiving! Maria

      Hi Maria! What a treat to see your comment. Right, Prime has some great deals. I don't like to share until I have received them. I'm so glad you purchased the Hahnemuhle set while it was still on sale. It's so so fun to get things on our wish list at a great price! I purchased most my Daniel Smith collection awhile ago. Do you mean they changed the formula and the newer tubes are better, or DS just doesn't last long? I'm trying my best to only invest in products that will last a long time. I've only had trouble with colors not available in half pan. Colors like Potter's Pink, and some Primateks. I'm happy to hear you are enjoying your new DS paint sets. Thanks for sharing all the deals you found. I didn't know you had a channel, I will definitely check out your channel. I hope you enjoy your oil painting class. I'm too scared to try oil, lol. Happy Thanksgiving! 💗

      @TheGypsyChic1 Hi Stephanie, my viewer share to give DS another chance with newer tubes. So I finally did this summer and the newer tubes are much softer. They do rewet super easy. So I notice that my old tubes from 3 years ago must be old. They dry like a rock and I have to soak them to get them to move. I have potters pink on my list. Thank You/happy Friday 😊

    That was an awesome art haul Stephanie, kudos to you! I took the lid from a Derwent Artists pencil set and made a watercolor pallette of Daniel Smith watercolor paints from tubes and sticks in the lid. I took a couple of the Daniel Smith sticks and scored about an inch segment of it, snapped it off and placed them in half pans with the other half pans. I use them like any other watercolor pans. The sticks are a good way to stock up on any of the paints that are going to be discontinued because of how much product you get with them.

    I know this may be a minority opinion, but I really like your high-end supply hauls and reviews. I am a more advanced artist and I am beyond beginner supplies. I am not made of money, but like you, I save up and wait to buy a top product. I feel that this makes me a vulnerable consumer, similar to someone buying budget supplies. If I buy a high priced item and it is not fit for my use or has questionable quality, then I have to save up forever to try again. I have really valued your older videos because you shared professional, new products that are quality in design and top in their groups (or no, thanks for those too). Also new products that are on trend and can re-invigorate interest in old mediums.
    I couldn't imagine the negative comments you must have received while doing them, but it is no different from other people's collections and you use and love your products. I do watch some of your budget product videos just because I know you are able to compare to professional products. You need to do the videos you enjoy and allow you to keep going on RUclips if you love it. I will keep up to you no matter what you post, you are thorough and kind.

      Thank you so much for your comment!!! I very much needed to read it, as I need my videos to be helpful. I love trying new supplies, but I love being helpful more! I love trying the budget supplies, but they have taken up nearly all my time this year and have left me little time for the products I enjoy much more. I just know a lot of people have very little money and don't want to appear to be showing off. Thank you so much for your comment, it really means a lot to me. 💗

      @@TheGypsyChic1 I like seeing both beginner products AND professional. I'm a beginner and retired. So budget is important, but so is quality. I try to avoid truly beginner supplies because so often they make learning harder, but I can only afford one or two pro purchases a year. I really spend a lot of time picking out the one or two pro purchases because an expensive mistake really hurts.

      @cjp2274 Thank you for sharing. You are very wise to have figured that out as a beginner. I was a crafter, and I discovered my love for art supplies later in life. I also hope you know you really only need a few mixing colors, a decent watercolor brush and good 100% cotton paper. Truly almost everything else is just for fun! It's really not necessary, at all...to me it is incredibly fun.

    Hello lovely! I allow myself to buy some things in December, but from January on, I will have a no buy for at least 6 months, until it is my birthday in July. I will also go on a yt-diet...so I won't be tempted either and I need more time to create and learn another language, and the only way how to do that is quit being online much. But I subbed your channel and I really enjoy your reviews and I just love how much joy you get out of your supplies, that just sparks positivity to me 🙂 I started buying more often from small businesses on etsy or elsewhere, since people are struggling so much and I might as well spend my money consciously. Good luck to everybody here!

I use them the way he intended (travel pans! take your brush directly to the stick as you clutch them b/w your fingers) but ALSO I love to use them like a Neocolor over what I've done already on wet paper. Aren't oil sticks just solid oil paint? As in, oil paint with some wax added in? Some time ago I saw the Sennelier promotion video where they claimed they're soluble with turpentine or mineral spirit or linseed oil. Now I'm confused. Do they really dry like water soluble paint? Or do they polymerize like regular oil paints with film on top? I'd assume the latter since you need to peel off the skin to use them but seeing you use them on paper makes me wonder. Are they save to use on non-gessoed paper?

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  3 дня назад

      Hi Renata! That is what Sennelier says, and why I'm interested in trying them. I would read up on them from different art store sites before purchasing to make sure they meet your needs. They do dry completely on paper, and but I'm still testing them. So far, I use them on Arches rough paper, on top of failed paintings. It as not gone through the back side. I think the more proper way to use it, is on canvas that has been gessoed. I'm far from an expert, just excited to try all the art supplies and learning as I go. Also, check out Sennelier's RUclips channel. They have many videos, and Live streams where they talk more about their products. I hope that helps! 💗
