My full review of both this Samsung foldable and the Google Pixel Fold are coming soon but for now here's a full tour of the features and specs. Those cameras are quite similar as far as megapixels etc go but produce very different photos - the Galaxy Z Fold 5 once again pumps out brighter, bolder shots. I prefer the video quality of that Sammy smartphone too.
However, the Samsung Z Fold 5 does serve up a smaller battery. All the same, I've found that drain on this and the Pixel Fold is very similar. And the Galaxy is hands down the winner for gaming on Genshin Impact etc, with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smarts.
I also prefer the software experience on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which I never thought I'd say. It handles split screen action better and can max out apps on that internal display, unlike the Pixel.

I own a fold 3 for 2 years now. At first I bought it because it was a nice gimmick and i wanted to try it. I didn't really like the small outer screen at first. But in the past 2 years the fold stick to me. The outer screen became handy and with the learning keyboard, i can type quick with one hand. I never thought I was going to buy a fold again but for me it is unthinkable to switch back again to a "normale" phone.
I was the same with my fold 3 but after 2 years I need that front screen to be bigger. It nice to hold it one handed for the basic things like playing music, samsung pay etc. using it for more things I want a big screen. I'm a note user. big screen is nice but it not like I'll use that walking around full opened.
@DGundam90 I can understand that completely. I did own a note prior and they are excellent. At least in my opinion. So I did test the pixel too and even then I did prefer the smaller outer screen from the fold. I know that most people disagree
Yep once you get a folding phone and take advantage of the larger screen it's just too hard to go back to a normal phone.

Maybe a few mm only. I like that it is comfortable to use with 1 hand coz if you're gonna use 2, might as well use the main screen. Look at his hand acrobatics in 3:19 .

@@hadmos855 I had the Z Fold 4 for about 4 months before selling it and buying the S23 Ultra. The Fold is a fantastic phone but the outer screen is just not wide enough. As a result of this the keys on the keyboard are extremely close together and you inevitably get lots and lots of typo's, at least I did. I use my phone a lot for business and the alternative was to use it fully unfolded all the time. I had real concerns about doing though due to battery drain. The S23 is a fantastic phone and I really do not regret my decision. If and when Samsung offer a folding device with a regular size front screen I will buy one immediately. For the life of me I cannot understand why they make the front screen so skinny.

I like the form factor of the fold 5. Easier to hold one hand. Basically like a remote control. Wide enough to do some basic tasks and the software in it is miles ahead of the pixel. Looks more premium too with that minimal bezels
Ordered my zfold5 yesterday after having the flip3 for two years. I love my flip3, but I play games with my kids, and having a bigger screen for the multitasking mode will be great.

Ive enjoyed the z fold 3 , 4 and now the five . Very curious for one plus open . Google fold has a nice form factor in theory , still feels like a prototype phone from them , much akin to the samsung OG fold . Shorter and wider , with spen housed in body , and functionality on both screens will truelly be something special in whatever iteration it comes from samsung .
Till then , for all of its short comings with the tall narrow front display (which ive become quite used to over the last 2 years ) the fold series is truly something to behold , and never stops wowing me when i open and close this thing . Truely some future tech come to life .

Great comparison the Samsung is definitely more seasoned when it comes to the inner display/multitasking etc..but i think google a few updates away from giving it a real compatition and dat front display def a win for google.

I'm getting the z fold 5 :) my current phone is the s21 plus which I am due an upgrade from the beginning of August so perfect timing for me. Plus I can finally play all the other games on my youTube channel which my current phone can't handle too well without it getting super hot. So I can't wait to upload my mobile gameplays :)
I'm interested to know, can you use the Cover screen as a handsfree option for viewing videos and utilise the "selfie" cam for Skyping & Zooming ? Or does the phone automatically change to the inside screen when it's opened up? If it automatically defaults to the inside screen, can you change that ? Thanks!
Great video. Think I'm sticking with my Fold 4 for now. I did pre-order the 5 through my carrier but I end up paying basically the same amount on a plan that I am right now. It just doesn't make any sense. So I'll stick with what I've got and wait for either it to break or completely die before I think about getting a different phone.

Have they added spen function to cover screen or does it only work on the main 7.6 screen still... I still use and have my ZFold3 and waiting on a spen integrated option without a case.
Flip users should have sDex feature by now and spen support as well. but hey it did get better over the fold5.
2nd phone upgrade will wait. I carry a Note 10 6.3" and ZF3 for my daily driver. both have sDex which is a must for me as well as the spen support.
I am with Samsung because of one UI and S-Pen. They are so useful and functional!!!
Do you use s pen on fold? Because I don't like to work with the s spen and the fold in the screen. It just don't work that well when writing or drawing. For me it isn't
@enjeroz Yes, I use s-pen to sign documents and mark notes on architectural plans. It is brilliant for our firm.

Price aint bad if you soak up the deals and pre-order. Right around $2k for Fold 5 with 512mb, buds 2 pro, watch 6 classic 47mm LTE, and s pen case with screen protector is what I got. I also keep my phones longer than most, been using a note 10+ and watch 3 for 4 years. Will be a nice upgrade.

So glad i got the Pixel Fold. Soooooo happy with it. Just wish the casez werent so expensive. Ended up getting the Pitaka Mag Safe case amd its excellent (Keeps the Pixel Fold as slim as possible)

@TechSpurt 14:26 regarding that on your dedicated Z Fold 5 video it would be cool if you could kindly test if it's able to do reverse wireless charge devices without interruptions while being plugged for wired charging, and if it's reasonably fast, useful to charge another phone when in a pinch: it's a thing that gets often overlooked on phone reviews in the battery, charging section but also one of the most realistic and actually useful use-cases for reverse wireless charging, in general.

Pre ordered the z fold 5, pixel fold doesnt fold completely flat and that really bothers me, aspect ratios for apps arent optimized as well on the pixel fold. Plus the samsung trade in deals and preorder bundles are great and make the z fold 5 an easy choice
may be good to compare it with Honor Magic V2 (everything especially camera please)
One disappointing thing about Magic V2 is still not available for other markets.

As an all-time iPhone user, who has dreamed about foldable devices, I've finally made a choice. The hinge switch from > to - & the brightness did it for me.
While the Pixel Fold is lovely, I prefer the ZFold5 for gaming, software, overall one-handed performance, and pocket fit.
Can't wait to get mine on August 11th!

@amirhaynes6016 This was bought for me as a gift. I miss iphone sometimes so I put my sim back in but within a day or two I'm back on fold. My main two gripes are 1] no matter what keyboard I install, nothing beats apples keyboard 2] it feels really heavy

Had a chance to compare the fold 5, pixel fold, and surface duo 2. Fold 5 wins generally and is much more pocketable and easier to handle when folded. The wider form factors when folded mean you end up with a wider phone, which somewhat defeats the purpose of a foldable phone.

This is how I decided. Which screen am I going to use the most? Am I going to sit on the couch and use the front screen? In addition I work from home. So, I don't necessarily have to use the front screen as much. My second data point in my decision was can I type on the device that I prefer to have open and look at for a longer period of time? I found that I could type on both. So I picked the Samsung because it's got the better inner screen.....SPEN And DEX!
Is it me or does there still seem to be a wee tint bit of a gap towards the hinge side...of course it's a huge improvement but it doesn't look completely flat...am I wrong?

My fold 3 broke down after only about a year of use, I got the black screen of death after just a year so now I can't even use it if it's unfolded, the fingerprint also stopped working, and the charging port went out so now it only charges using wireless charging.. Makes me really skeptical about the fold 5 and really just Samsung in general..

How does the Z Fold 5 handle pictures of movement? Anytime I tried taking a picture of my kid or dog with my Z Fold 4, it would just be blurry
It is subpar still, but better than on release. That is of course based on the s23 ultra as I get to try the Galaxy fold 5.

I am not a FOLD type of user but the FILP is a genius gadget to me.. SAMY was always my choice till the NOTE to ULTRA switch happened then I went ahead trough some XIAOMIs, HONORs, and some other new comers..
Now I am on the MOTO RAZR 40 ULTRA and I must confess that this device is the best gadget that an OEM can offer to a customer, the FLIP5 will play catch up this year.. 🎉
Google really dropped the ball with the software, app optimization and customization. Samsung is still lightyears ahead of Google in terms of all the above when it comes to foldables. I actually really enjoy the form factor of the Fold. I'm just really shocked Samsung didnt at least slap the cameras from the S23+ on the Fold 5.
They finally fixed the gap. I will most probably pull the trigger when they put Ultra cameras & 5000mAh battery in it. Maybe in Fold 6 if ever hah.
I still have the fold 3. Still waiting for a different design before upgrading. Probably next year is the time.

I pre-ordered the Fold 5, upgrading from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. I played with it at the store for a few minutes, I don't regret my purchase yet. We'll see. Lol
The Pixel Fold's speakers are setup so that they are stereo in any orientation. One top left, one bottom right. No matter how you hold it there's a speaker left and right.
There should 4 speakers, and 2 of them mute when folded. This way you're surrounded by sound without telling where exactly it's coming from. Most good tablets have 4 speakers for this.

I wanted pixel so bad. The lack of pencil felt like a compromise i was willing to look by. Them not using samsungs screen record feature where you just tap a button to stop recording instead of having to pull the notibar was a slight annoyance. But what was the real deal breaker was apps not using the full size of the inner display. Not implementing scaling in your device to force devs to natively support your aspect ratio is ridiculous. Yes that will help customers who get the next pixel fold but current customers are basically beta testers. Too expensive for all that. Im sadly going the z fold 5. Was going to go with the oneplus fold until i see the green screen/line issue theyre dealing with right now
You do know that those apps that don't scale to landacape mode does scale to portrait mode if you turn the pixel ? The portrait mode scaling is supported which is the dimension of z fold. If you open up the pixel fold and turn it, you get your edge to edge apps scaled.

It's a consideration of "continuity" actually. Because of pixel fold's formfactor, the app need to change from portrait to landscape instead of just stretching like zfold. It's much more difficult to "force" on unsupported apps.

@MrRight0930 its not. Because that was once every app on samsung because no one in the industry took foldables seriously. Stop the excuses. Samsung made it happen as an experimental feature initially. Google can make it happen.
Have the z fold 3 previously, break down within a year, sent for repair then break down again within 6 months(thou i admit i did drop the phone couple of times)...then got myself S23 ultra, now less than a year using it, i was lure by the big screen of foldable again n just preordered the Z fold 5...hopefully it will be a lot more lasting than my old z fold 3.

I think you should also do a test with older phones to see how they behave over time. I have a P6P and for several months the zoom camera no longer focuses except in daylight. Wasn't it normal to work the same as on the first day? In addition, I could give maximum zoom to make a kind of macro with her help, now she tells me to back off if I want her to focus. What guarantees do those with P7P have that they will not suffer the same next year after the release of P8P? And so on.
I am so tempted to order the z fold 5 via trading in my z fold 4 along with a military discount, and the reserve credit for 798 but ... Is the upgrade worth it for jus the chip set? I work early and breath off my z fold 4. I use my newly bought s23 ultra for gaming and other stuff

Wrong..the crease is less noticeable on z fold5 compared to the z fold4..
I put my hands on z fold 5 at my local Bestbuy yesterday and it is Lighter in weight and the screen gets brighter and the crease was DEFINITELY LESS NOTICEABLE, U can almost not see it or feel it... and could not see or tell the inner screen protector was there... this is compared to the z fold4..
I'm actually impressed about the crease being less noticeable..😮😁👍WOW.. the s pen and the case is also nice and light and flat/thin..
