I can think of a lot of stuff but the first thing I would do would be to paint black tiger like stripes. That would look awesome. With gear track and RAM mounts balls, you can add a ton of other accessories. Get yourself a quality paddle as well. Carbon fiber for those long days is best IMO. I look forward to watching this build.
Great find Jim. I own a 13' Riot sit-inside kayak and think a few of it's features may be useful to you. I have both a skeg and a rudder. I don't use the rudder often but the skeg is really useful as my kayak is a little wide for steering by leaning. Deck lines along the sides are good for tying things down but more importantly, for holding onto when trying to get back inside after tipping/dipping. Grab handles really help with lifting, Either to and from a car top or just in and out of the water. Looking forward to seeing the project advance
Hey Jim, sounds like a nice project. I wouldn't worry too much about the colour since you got a good deal on it and will modify it. I made a two wheeled cart from ABS pipe fittings to transport my canoe. Once you get the kayak all fitted out something like this would make it much easier to transport. I'm working on a video of my cart. It can easily fit a kayak also. I look forward to seeing what you do with this.......Tke care, Mike.
Hey Jim! I have the same kayak in red. I was wondering the same things. How does it look now? We're you able to paint? And how do you make the storage ports. I was going to replace the straps but did you just remove them and use webbing instead? Can't wait to see the finished product!
I did do the paint job so that the top portion was covered. It held up “ok” but any scratch would reveal the pink underneath. I never did cut out the storage ports as I opted to use a 30L dry bag which fit nicely behind me when I was sitting in the middle.
Jim I found this exact kayak washed up on the beach this morning, what can I add to it to make it a great fishing kayak, I definitely want a trolling motor rod holder and do I need a trailer or wheels to haul it around?
Yeah you need some wheels to haul it around, I think the weight was 72lbs which might be ok, I did a portage trip across a few lakes and it was HEAVY, the wheels I had were not appropriate for the width. If you can find something, it will make things MUCH easier especially adding a small motor and gear
Question for ya: I recently just bought this same older model pink ocean kayak malibu two second-hand but I'm having a hard time locating the serial number on mine. Any tips where to find it on this model?
The 6 inches fit perfect in front of both seats and the 9 inch port hole fits in the center. I made mine into a cooler after adding some insulation. Works great!
Kinda. Two large dry sacks can fit on top no problem, just for you decide how you want to secure it. However, I find the kayak a bit heavy if you plan to haul it over a portage hopping across a few lakes. You'll need a good carrier that can distribute the weight. I made a mistake on getting a compact one where all the weight is on the handle.
The kid won't stay in the middle, it will go on mommy in front.. Then she won't be able to paddle anymore because someone else is going to *TRY* to help. Get an old blue sleeping pad (or any closed cell foam), cut it and maybe glue it down for the child's bottom. Don't bother painting it, color is just fine. Plus, with all 4 in the boat it's going to sit underwater anyway hahaha. I'm no expert but I'd think that the paint would just scratch or chip away.

i've been looking up paddles and it'll definitely be one of the final items before I hit the water next spring.

Hey, what year is this? I'm about to buy it used in same color! Did it work? U still have it?

it was a really stable kayak for easy paddling.

I didn’t even know there could be a serial number on it. But I certainly have not seen it
I have the same exact kayak. Have you put in deck hatches? Do you know what size fits?
I didn't end up installing it but I got this one (6-inch) which prior review said would fit perfectly on the malibu two amzn.to/2RRGuaf

Hello Jim, do you recommend malibu two for solo kayaking and camping?

I found one with seats and it was $600

yeah I've seen a few vids folks painting it up, but wonder how well it would handle the atlantic ocean waters.

Just giving you crap great video 👌🏻👍🏻
