I had a hand bilge pump on my inshore skiff. Works great.
Really appreciate these beginner videos as I am just starting out with my first fishing kayak. I’m excited that you doing a series on the subject and looking forward to learning more. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent, welcome to the Fishin Fam!
Happy Father’s Day JT!!!!
Great vid!!! Next on my list is a better fitting PFD. I don’t go out without one.
Heh bought an anchor today.
There we go!
Thanks for the great tips.
A pfd with pockets is huge for me . I won’t go out without it . An old sledgehammer head makes a great anchor for all the construction worker anglers out there
Good tip!
@@FishINwithGRAMPS 5lb head is perfect !! Lol old counter weights from old windows work ok too as long as the wind or current isn’t too harsh
A note on the paddel, there are sport kayaks, and fishing kayaks, just because it's a kayak paddel does not mean it's going to work for a fishing kayak. Fishing kayak paddels are designed with larger blades to displace more water due to the weight of the kayak and gear, a sport kayak is light and doesn't require as much force to move it. As Gramps said, do some research and get the best kayak paddel possible, trust me I went with a Bending Branches and have been paddeling for over a year now and I would not have been able to do that without a quality paddel.
My son and I fish out of kayaks. Best thing I have bought for us are walkie talkies. We fish some lakes where cell signal is not great. A lake is a perfect environment for walkie talkies as every is at same level, there is no difference in elevation as there is on land. Plus, it is instant communication, no waiting for someone to answer phone. We have 3 kayaks and 3 radios.
yeah, that's something else I need to talk about in a video some day. We use them when we are driving any distance in a convoy.
Great info 👍
Had my ofd , anchor and lock down straps ( bungee type, just keep trees from stealing combos or them, or other accessories, baits from falling out incase of tipping)for gear. Have a whistle, but also boaught a nice air horn i shived in a xl pool noodle i cut. So, it floats if i end uo in the water.
I was lucky, before i started a year ago. Had a buddy whos been a boater and is more a kayak guy mostly. And he helped like gramos idoong and always has done. Disnt hurt that im OCD and i prefer to be prepared as i can. Accidents happen amd you xant oreper for them all that well. But! I tried to make sure i was safe for me, other anglers and even the water/environment as much as possible.
Sorry for the novel. Thanks Gramos great info as usual...
PS- gotta replace my bilge pump... Had a cheapo that just sropped working.
Great vedio!
Hey Gramps! Great advice! I heard you mention Patoka Lake... Takes me back to my days with the IDNR working out of Sugar Ridge Fish and Wildlife Area. I hope all is well for you and yours down there... Sending love from Lake St. Clair.
I need to get up there and chase smallies some day!
Another Great Video 🎣
Last year I fell in, good swimmer, in shape, in the summer, and when I came up i realized how out of breath I was from the startling situation. Always wear the pfd.
Amen! 100%!
If you are in a paddle kayak 100% agree you need a carbon fiber paddle!! Your arms will thank you.
100% agree, the price is alot more but it's worth it
Anazin has a decent electric bilge pump rhat works with 20v powertoll batteries. Rhat can clear water in a kayak within 5-10 minutes. But dont forget that dry bag!!! Lol electric tools amd water...not usually a good mix, and i have never seen waterproof power tools
I use a 4lb window weight on paracord for my anchor. Never lets loose.
Good tip!
200 hundred like 👍
