You know, I think boobytrapping the stalemate button was the one smart idea he had in the entire game, even if he only stood to lose by being in control of the facility
I think I read an analysis recently that said that while his foresight was basically nonexistent, he actually had decent hindsight in most cases. The fact that he actively looked over your fights with GLaDOS to not make the same mistakes, and only lost because of things that weren't present in those fights, shows that he wasn't completely oblivious.
"One, No Portal Surfaces." "Two, Start The Neurotoxin Immediately." "Three, Bomb-Proof Shields, for Me." "Five, Booby trap The Stalemate Button." He really thought of *almost* everything.
That and, also the cubes that are supposed to walk onto the button. Wheatley is, quite literally, the only person in the whole game to do actual science. GLaDOS just forces you to do tests, which really just mimics what science is. Wheatley doesn’t get enough credit.
He also came up with the plan to essentially disarm GLaDOS (no neurotoxin, harmless turrets) near the beginning of the game, rendering her incapable of killing Chell during their confrontation. I'd call him a buffoon rather than a moron.

they should make an update where you only have like 20 seconds to shoot the moon and if you dont the entire place will explode and you will get the bad ending that would be pretty cool
@@akjackhd5804 20 seconds would be the most generous time frame with the stakes still being high. so i think instead of the bad ending being the facility exploding, it should be like, a bunch of debris falling on the character or something similar, that way chell is immediately removed from that danger but the place can still explode.

@@palecandy that makes sense since white gel is a portal conductor (forgot the name) and the white panels allow you to place portals on them so you don't really have to pay attention to that detail about moon rocks to know that you can shoot portals on the moon
Despite this being somewhat dissapointing (and possibly sort of clickbaity), I think this might actually be the first time ever I'm hearing Wheatley's full dialogue here. And I beat the game multiple times over the years...

Just realized that how in the world did chell even see the moon a hole that small and you can see the debris is small and thin but yet in the ending it shows her going up hundreds opon thousands of levels just getting to the surface it is literally almost impossible I feel like matpat
4 months late but the main theory is that GLaDOS moved the are that they are in while Chell is out cold. Wheatley completely moves the lair while Chell is in old aperture, and we don't know how long Chell is out for, so it is plausible.
I was thinking about this and realized, when you're outside her chamber, you can see it's surrounded by emptiness, in every directions. Pitch black. So it means there's a huge empty space around it, going for hundred of meters. So I think there was this tiny hole in the chamber and a big one in the surface

Ye it will I had blue portal in stalemate room and orange under Wheatley and I shot the orange portal to the moon and it played it replaced the blue portal under Wheatley automatically
the moon sequence is one of the coolest oments in gaming. throughout the game it is established that the portal stuff is made from the moon, then at the end, you get shown it as you question wait... can i? it is the coolest climax for a game i have seen yet.
Strange considering what Valve did consider in this game, building extra dialog for almost every action you could think about (like jumping down when Wheatley tells you too...)
they should have had 2 endings one where Wheatly gets sent to space and one where Wheatly keeps control of the facility and everything starts breaking.
I actually game overed a few times on my first playthrough of that fight just because I wanted to hear all the Wheatley dialogue and kept running out the clock lol
Huh, you'd think that they would have had something happen, given the way a lot of Valve games are designed with tons of foresight in them. And given there's supposed to be a meltdown imminent, it's not like they would have had to do much beyond a wipeout screen, and maybe Wheatley saying something as everybody dies
Hopefully this answers questions: What happens if for example, you shot a orange portal under Wheatley and then fired an orange again at the moon? The portal at the moon will come out blue instead and the game continues as normal. Also, once I managed to get a portal not under Wheatley to get the button. I shot a portal away from him in the scene where the conversion gel gets cleaned off and if you spam it you should be able to get an illegal portal. However when the time comes to place a portal on the moon the orange/ blue illegal portal I placed was teleported under Wheatley... I thought I broke the game there
this has been pointed out before but: the Core Transfer voice isn't able to pick up on Wheatley's sarcasm... sarcasm detection was one of the first things GLADOS brought back online earlier in the game. Just another little blink-and-you'll-miss-it joke about how badly Wheatley has run the facility.
It's a shame there is no game over scene like the whole place exploding since in Half-Life 2 during dr. breen boss fight you could get a game over screen saying that you failed the mission if you let breen escape
I ended up seeing a advertisement for Veteran Affairs after the video ended . The setting of the advertisement took place on the surface of a warm barren desert . It really confused me. I thought it was part of the video but then I realized that portal 2 did not end with Chell getting treatment for PTSD . Nowhere in the plot did it suggest that she was anything more than a weapons contractor's test subject . Is chell secretly a soldier ? This ad was seamless. This could have been a good way to end the story. Thank you to the V.A..
this is similar to mashy spike plate where it doesnt matter what portal you place to move the funnel, if you place the wrong one, it will just correct it for you
I was looking around the room for about 20 seconds wondering what I was supposed to do. Couldn't fire at anything. Then I look up at the moon and thought "...no..."
legend says valve made the first thing wheatley says after going into space "WE'RE IN SPACE" because some playtesters didn't realize what was happening
Half life alyx is full of these kind of moments, for example you have like 10 seconds to throw a lever to stop a train but I spent about a minute looking for it and the moment I flipped it the train appeared, and when my sister played it she found it in a second and the train appeared.
on my first play through ever, i had no idea what to do at that part, i didnt realize i had to shoot the moon, so i had to look up a gameplay video to be tol to shoot the moon

Half life alyx is full of these kind of moments, for example you have like 10 seconds to throw a lever to stop a train but I spent about a minute looking for it and the moment I flipped it the train appeared, and when my sister played it she found it in a second and the train appeared.
on my first play through ever, i had no idea what to do at that part, i didnt realize i had to shoot the moon, so i had to look up a gameplay video to be tol to shoot the moon
How did you even complete the game?

We all love the Wheatley wiggle
The wheatly shuffle, shake it the left, now the front you all, two rights two rights, now go again, shake it to the left, now the front you all, two rights two rights, now go again. It's such a nice dance. I create it on a wheatly scale a 7 out of 10.
And I thought the reactor would explode or the Facility does self destruct to prevent a nuclear explosion
