The fact Sony is just sitting on this series much like Syphon Filter is plain stupid. I'd bet they'd make some good money if they brought it back on PS5.

That's cause for over a decade they tried to bring it back and it never left the working table. There's been multiple socom projects all left on cutting room floor. Socom today as it was in early 2000s just wouldn't work. Plus we played that style over and over its a dead style. If Sony can't immediately make 100s of millions off of it they won't do it.
So if you want to play socom you have to play on pc.
Come to think of it, this was like the first popular online game.

@@stolensentienceI meant to say like an online multiplayer on a console. Because before then not many people had internet like that. I remember around the time of Socom is when internet in homes really started picking up with those aol free trials. And even then.... what's depicted in this ad is a far cry from what you would actually get on 56k. You'd be lucky to even play. One phone call from your mom's friend and it's over. I didn't mean like it's the actual, literal first but definitely one of. I'm 37 so I remember what everything was like like it was yesterday.

My dad was an army sniper and seeing this commercial always reminded me of him playing military games. Whether it was call of duty, battlefield or whatever, he always used real life tactics to dominate everyone in whatever lobby. Now he only plays stupid madden🙄

Sadly it won't be a hit. These days are dead and gone. Socom when it came out had 0 competition on console now there's what 6 or 8 hugely popular shooters? Plus this game is geared more to military / competitive scene. Any game hugely successful today attracts the casuals or first time gamers.
If socom came out to day if would be mostly irrelevant. Shit the last popular and profitable socom was socom 2 that was almost 20 years ago

Yep, 2 had a ton of wall glitches, full auto M16 glitch, OICW glitch, and the basket on Crossroads that would boot the room if you jumped on it lol

Just for context. There's a PS3 emulator and u can get a copy of SOCOM with an active multiplayer server that ppl actually still playu.

I love this game and I wish they'd bring it give us a remaster in some form or another. Unfortunately it came out at a time when there was a lot of propaganda to try to get younger people into the military, almost a year after 9/11. The country was united around the cause for the most part because, unlike now, people still had faith in our government and agencies like the CIA, FBI, etc. There are still good people in our government but for the most part our it's corrupt to the core with politicians on both sides who create problems on purpose in order to force their 'solution' on us. There's no way a game like this would come out now because their propaganda has shifted to plant different ideas in your head now. They've ramped up their efforts to ban guns, break up the family, and emasculate the military. Best you're going to get now are games like BF 2042 with skittles characters.
Meh who know maybe biden will start ww3 and then well be inspired to play tactical shooter again on console.
Tactical shooters just don't work anymore. Don't have mass appeal.
