This game deserved better. But alas, SONY dropped the ball so...today we pour one out for SOCOM LIKE and SUBSCRIBE with NOTIFICATIONS ON if you enjoyed the video! 👍 👕 PICK UP A T-SHIRT: bigfryshop.com
I mean if 283,000 subscribers donated 200.00 from one channel and another could some of guerrilla and recon rainbow collab on a new socom fan based starter pack and try not pull a ubisoft or 2042?
Sadly all the poeple that made Socom are no longer there. I think new people will make a better socom anyways. @BigfryTV you can pool a team and make it with @bluedrake42 maybe you guys can just mod operation harsh doorstop to be third person with socom mechanics. food for thought.
@@BigfryTV You seemed to forget MAG. Sony dropped Zipper after that game. It wasn't socom but it was actually super great fun when player count was good.
I had a really good experience with Wolfenstein: Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the original Xbox Live. I remember how I managed to get it when I was in grade 5: I would grind a Diablo 2 multiplayer sorc to level 90, traded it for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, then I sold those cards at school to afford the Xbox Live Starter pack. Oh my, what a fucking time.
You can a still play it today. There's a whole discord of people who play. You can play it online either through emulation on PC or through a actual PS2. They show you how to get setup and everything. Very dedicated group of players.
The thing about SOCOM is it’s not just nostalgia. No other shooter has more satisfying gunfights. Fast strafe, reticle right over head instead of ots, no need to slow down and ADS to shoot, no sprint button just hold the stick etc. Game was fucking brilliant.
No other shooter since has given us the ability to Create rooms, customize every little bit of them, have clan tags, have 1 player push to talk (So that you don't get people in screaming matches that wreck the game with their b.s. audio), have clan ladder rankings, a sense of community via the server you and your friends would play in, etc. It was so advanced for it's time... the industry has taken major steps backwards and it's pathetic.
Socom 2 was my first ever online game I ever played, I was completely blown away. It’s sad to see what happened to that franchise. Long live forever… Socom. Oh and before I go, GREEN UP!!
I'm 40 now and the memories I have from socom are still here today. I met one of my best friends on socom and still talk to him on a daily basis to this day. What a awesome time to be alive .
The OG SOCOM and the documentary in special features made me want to become a SEAL. low and behold, enlisted at 18, got a specwar contract, went to BUD/S, and graduated in Fall of 2013 with class 301. This game has changed a lot of lives
There was nothing better than knowing summer break was coming up and I could stay up late nights and play Socom. Made so many online friends from that game and quite honestly miss those days; everyone hopping on in the evening and playing until 2am, clan wars, game battles(and holding the crown)….excuse me as I go cry now.
Got my copy of socom 2 back in 2002 when I was working at Blockbuster. This game really changed my life. I havent got that feeling yet, 20 years later. Salute to all the socom Vets out there, alive or passed away.
We are still playing SOCOM 2 in LAN mode every Thursday on our old PS2, 5 vs. 5, with the same friends for over the last 20 years. SOCOM has helped me make lifelong friends.
Damn I feel old now. I remember when my uncle bought Socom and let us play it with the headset that came with it. We thought it was the coolest thing ever. Socom 2 was probably the best multiplayer tactical shooter I've ever played on console and the lobbies were a trip lol. I don't think there will ever be another experience like it. Back then, if you saw a dude with a high rank you knew he was no joke lol
RGLA snakeman was number 1 forever only because of rank hacking, he wasn't actually that good of a player, and he was kind of a D bag too. i think that, having rank hacked enough to stay at number one for so long, the celebrity status went to his head and made him become kind of arrogant and narcissitic, i was surprised, because i killed the number one player easily, he wasn't even good
This literally makes me want to weep a little bit. SOCOM was a huge part of my childhood gaming. I remember when I got it on my PSP-GO (Amazing device at the time, like holy shit.) I'd obviously played on console, but I remember the PSP version was just wildly amazing. Thanks for the nostalgia!
I remember when the PSP GO came out and my friend got it, it wasn't good like you say at all, the problem was you could only download games from the online store, no disc nothing(you couldn't share games with your buddies!), back then it was a huge problem and very unattractive for most people who had a normal psp like me plus the device itself was not comfortable to play on and it had a tiny screen compared to the psp. No wonder why it died off so quick. Not trying to be mean maybe if they came out with it nowadays with a new design it would of sold more.
Socom changed my life forever also. The opening theme to Socom 2 gives me the chills. I would honestly cry if Sony ever would just do a Socom 2 Remake.
They should have remade on HD for the Playstation network. Would have been easy with the new technology.... idk why they removed my comment for hate.... I had to write this twice..
One of the best videos you ever put out, Fry. I remember Christmas 2001 like yesterday : inside of the Christmas tree was GTA 3, Jak and Daxter and Metal Gear Solid 2. My life changed instantly when I was only 9 years old.
I remember when i played Socom on PS2 as a Kid and OMG this game was AWESOME. I'm so happy to see you talking about this nearly forgotten Legend of many people.
SOCOM changed my life for the better as well. Currently, I'm roommates with someone I met on S1. I've been roommates with 2 other people that I played SOCOM with, and basically became a part of their family. I will be the best man at one of their upcoming weddings. I've met about 20 people in real life from SOCOM. We would have SOCOM parties where people from Alabama, Idaho, Canada, and various parts of California would come together to meet up, play SOCOM with multiple TVs in the same room, and party. I've made lifelong important relationships because of that franchise and still game with the core members from our clan/group. SOCOM will always be my #1. I will never forget it. I appreciate this video you've made. On another note, It's sad that a 20 year old game had more features, customization, variety, maps, and sense of community and communication than anything we see today or most likely will ever see again.
Back in the early 2000s my mother was a stay at home mom & the only game she’d play on PS3 was SOCOM Navy Seals Confrontation. I’d watch her play all the time.
Your mom played games, back then?? That's rare, there's more girl gamers now but back then especially shooters woman hardly played, let alone moms! Nice..
@@botezsimp5808 There was one pretty well known older woman in the Socom community who posted on the Playstation forums under the name Sniperwolf. She was reasonably good at the game and fun to play with. I'll never forget those community games we had back in 2003-2004 on Socom 2 with forum regulars having a bunch of fun with people who loved that game. It was a sad day when Sony took those forums down.
I'm a singleplayer gamer. And i love tactial games. And for me even though i only discovered Socom in recent years, it's one of the best series in the genre. Unique as hell. Simple at first sight, but really focused on one thing - decisiveness. All the stealth, giving orders and all that, means NOTHING if you can't pull the trigger in time. It's awesome and brutal. Many games give you ample opportunities to line the perfect shots, and control the chaos. Here when the s**t hits the fan, you either shoot fast and precise, or you're dead meat. And this makes it stand out. This and really diverse situations on the field. Sometimes you have the upper hand, sometimes odds are stacked against you. My favourite ones are Socom 2 (a masterpiece with incredible atmosphere and immersion), and Combined Assault. Also PSP games are really decent.
I still remember when I was introduced to SOCOM. Only had a gamecube at the time but I use to go over to my cousins house and he had Broadband (Fast Access DSL) 😂I didn't even know what that meant at the time, but he started playing SOCOM 1 online telling me all these stories, epic moments, and people he met playing this game. Clan wars, the whole nine. Fast forward I beg my mom for a PS2 and broadband internet and we get it. I get SOCOM 2 probably close to a year before SOCOM 3 drops. SOCOM 2 till this day is probably my most memorable time of online gaming. People were nice, wanted to play and communicate with others, and just...... *POSITIVE* 🤣 Of course you ran into some ''toxic'' people but it was AT THAT TIME few and far between. People had decency and just wanted to play and get better. Met so many cool people my age, to grown men with families and a busy schedule but loved SOCOM and were VERY serious about the game. That moment in time to where online gaming was a new thing was truly magical and will never be touched again. Prime Socom & Halo are the greatest multiplayer shooters ever created imo. Great video... had me shed a single thug tear
I remember my dad owning 1 and 2 and playing them as a kid (I’m 23 next week so it shows how young I was) I got quite engaged in the franchise early even if it was only the single player. I eventually bought 3 and CA in the dying days of ps2 game sales when you could still get games in Walmart and even bought the 3 fireteam games for my psp. Never did get into confrontation as I went the Xbox route during that era but it is still to this day my favorite franchise in gaming. I still own all but 1&2 and occasionally go back and play them from time to time. My dream for this franchise is not so much a new development game but remasters of the old games. Would be great to see.
Man, i remember buying this game and the Netwrok Adapter at the same time when it came out It was my first online playing experience. The game blew my mind. I remember, when you were the last person on the team. your team mates voted against you to warn you that there was an ennemy behind you. Such great memories, it was good until the Codebreaker thing made the game almost unplayable because of hackers. Especially in SOCOM 1
I missed the boat on these... I was already in the army by 2003. Had my first deployment that year, infantry 11b. But when I came back? SOCOM was what changed my career path. I decided to change MOS, and the result? Over 20 years, I did Ranger, Recon, got out, went private, and somehow found myself in an outfit doing CSAR for various NGOs working in warzones. If not for games like SOCOM, along with Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and Metal Gear, I probably would've stayed a grunt or gotten out. Idk whether that's a good or bad thing though.
I grew up playing SOCOM, Metal Gear, Splinter Cell, etc. That heavily influenced my career path within the military and who I wanted to be. Went 11B as well back in ‘13. Passed selection to get into the Scout/Sniper section not long after that and have been enjoying the life since. On my third duty station now, still working out the kinks of stealth in an Arctic environment. But, it’s a fun experience.
I had almost the exact same story about getting into SOCOM. Older sister's friends would leave their ps2 and they all played SOCOM 2. I couldn't get enough around 11 years old.
God damn Big Fry, you got me right in the feels with this video. Socom 2 was my jam. I spent thousands of hours on there and loved every second of them.
Didn’t even get past the ad and I already liked and subbed… Anyone who says “SOCOM changed my life..” is a kindred spirit. I can still remember walking into my friend’s dorm room from my room across the hall and seeing him “talking” to his PS2. He kinda explained the game, but without actually playing I couldn’t grasp what he was on about. I went to another friend’s room and he was playing too, but not the campaign, MULTIPLAYER!!! I got my ass handed to me for hours and literally dreamed about the game that night. I went and got a PS2 and an adapter and started playing, sometimes with friends, but mostly solo (because my confidence was trash). Anyway, by SOCOM II I was well into the top percentiles for almost every metric (however my grades suffered). If anyone here played A LOT (or did game battles, etc.) you may even know me (SEEDLESS from KBN clan). Anyway, long story short, it’s idk how many years later and I still have close personal relationships with my clan mates from way back then (I’m talking people in Ireland, England, Canada, Australia, the US and more). I’ve visited their homes and they mine, I’ve attended their kids’ graduations and even a wedding or two. We exchange holiday cards, look after one another and so on. Shit, I’ve even loaned money to more than one of them (not obscene amounts, but nothing petty like a couple hundred bucks either). We are ALL (even some of the kids who never got to play but still remember their parents blissed out on SOCRACK wax nostalgic) still reminisce about those years between SOCOM and Combined Assault (I’ll strongly believe that SOCOM II was and remains the greatest “tactical shooter” in the history of gaming, warts and all, but it all went to shit between III and the end of CA if I remember correctly). The game was far ahead of its time and nothing since has quite scratched that itch the way SOCOM did. I apologize for the lengthy comment, this topic is just extremely dear to me and I have been clamoring for a “reboot” of the franchise since 2014. I personally have $42,762.88 to invest in any studio willing to do the original work justice with their homage to the king. What I’m hoping is that there are enough hardcore fans of the franchise who, even if they don’t have capital to invest, would devote time and effort to the project. I truly believe that if a modern SOCOM dropped, it would be a massive success. We just need to find a studio that is capable of producing the same quality and attention to detail, hammer out licensing and legal with Sony (I know, fucking nightmare, but it’s worth a shot before I am dead) and the waiting (obviously there’s way more to it, but to get the shit off the ground that might do). I will consistently check back on this comment to see if there are any other SOCOMers out there.
Same here brother. Socom Confrontation was my first online gaming experience and my first time joining a clan. That clan ending up being the reason I joined the Navy. So for real changed my life.
Socom changed my life forever, too, dad bought it for me on a whim and we fell in love with the series. I still play through the whole series on the PS2
You just brought back a ton of great memories. Socom 2 was where it all started for me as well. Used to go to my buddies house to play it and every minute was a blast. Community was awesome and the clan battles were super epic. Miss those days.
I nearly teared up a bit when you said MLG lol as I was a low ranked MLG player for about 2 years as a pre teen.. man those were the days, sometimes I fire up my old systems and just walk the old maps on different games and take in all the things I flew thru as a kid/teen.. Long Live Gamers!
This brought me way back. Very similar feelings this video expressed couldent have said it better myself. I know its never gonna happen but a S1/S2 remaster is exactly what i need right now.
This is a great story to listen too. Always nice to see people being this passionate about a certain game and what it meant for them. I never got to play the socom games as I didn't own a console back then, I was a pc gamer, but I loved tactical games, I was jalous about the headset with speach commands tho, that sounded so awesome to me, Ghost Recon didn't have that sadly. I only got to experience Socom with Socom 4, but as said, that wasn't the same experience so even today I can't claim I experienced the socom games :(
I tear up just looking at gameplay. I invested in H-Hour and can only dream of a sequel or remaster. SOCOM will forever live on in my heart as the best game ever.
This brought back a wave of emotions some of my best gaming memories with friends and family are from Socom....omg I love this game. Thank you for this video.
@BigfryTV Thank you so much for posting this, this brings be back so much. I remember getting that network adapter and playing SOCOM all day on the weekends.
Fun fact: the player made game mode Micheal Meyers started on confrontation. We use to play hide and seek all the time then one day the seeker played the Michael Meyers theme song when hunting us and since it was proxy mic we could hear him coming. It was amazing and scary and we did that all the time after that so I’m gonna say socom and the group I played with started Mike Meyers. You’re welcome 😊
I feel the exact same thing. Receiving the adaptor + socom was absolutely mindblowing and opened my eyes a lot. Damn I miss this game. This was my first encounter with clans too. Socom and WoW is what discribes my entire childhood. Thank you for making a video about this.
This takes me back. I never played MP in these games since we never got the network adapter until Confrontation which wasn’t my first online MP experience, my first Online experience was actually Resistance 2, that game to me was and still is the golden standard for Online Coop. Was definitely disappointed to see what SOCOM 4 became. Never got it nor played it. That’s exactly what happens when you chase trends instead of staying true to what that game was. That ended up killing it. There’s another game series that I grew up on that did the same thing that same year, Ace Combat: Assualt HORIZEN. But thankfully unlike Zipper, Project Aces actually listened to their fans and did not continue with doing that after Assualt HORIZEN. They made Ace Combat Infinity which was a free to play game for PS3 that brought back the original gameplay I loved and I loved it. But due to the fact that it was a Free to Play game it had that awful Fuel system which I eventually couldn’t keep up with since I was in my first year of college at the time. I stopped playing after 3 months and later on would start playing destiny instead. That game ended up closing its servers on march 2018 then in January 18th 2019 Ace Combat 7 came out. It was a valiant return to form and returned to what made Ace Combat so good. I’m pretty sure they are hard at work on Ace Combat 8 as we speak. Which then brought renewed interest to that genre which is flight shooters, in 2020, we got Project Wingman which is an indie game. It plays just like AC but has things in it that actually made it better in some aspects. I hope that one day Socom will get the Spyro Reignited Trilogy treatment and get a Remade trilogy of the first 3 games. It would be a very nice change of pace and whiff of fresh air.
I started my online gaming with Socom 3, best gaming days of my life for sure. I played socom 2 but family was too poor at the time to get the network adapter. I’ll never forget those amazing days.
I'll never forget playing SOCOM 2 back in the day. My brother got me into it when I was 6 years old. I used to play gamebattles with him and his older friends who were a part of a clan called US and a clan called Agents. My favorite game of all time.
Well, I live in Brazil already at the time the Internet was very bad and I could hardly configure because it was very new, I played only the campaigns ... I still don't trade Socom for any game of these new generations.
I loved this game and still have all my copies with my PS2. It was so advanced for the time and the single player is still fun today. Thanks for covering this.
Dude 👏 fuck 👏 yes. I am so happy to see someone acknowledge and review the series like this, and talking about the revival server and current socom community and stuff. My brothers and I have been massive fans of the series ever since Socom 2 came out, and we'd watch our dad play online on it alllllll the time. My brothers and I were only able to play Single Player and were never allowed to play online, and it wasn't until like April-May of last year when I watched Sharpp05s video on how to install and setup everything, and I've been having a blast ever since. I try and play every Friday for S2 comm night and the 1st Wednesday of every month for S3. My tag on the games r for the most part DiamondEyes935, but I like to use other names on occasion.
I was never around for the online portion of these games but I do attribute this series for my love of shooters. The campaign mode for SOCOM 1 had me addicted to it's stealth gameplay, teamwork and modern military setting. I could never really find another game besides Ghost Recon to satisfy that itch. The series took a nosedive but S1 - Combined Assault were my childhood.
Man I was so late, I got the PSP-100 from my dad as it was his console when he was younger. Now I wish I just didn’t leave it for the switch I’m looking back and I have so much regrets now. I tried finding it on my PS5 but it was not there. I wish I could turn back time to the good old days 😔
My dads friend (who was ranked top ten for a cpuple weeks at one point) made him get Socom 2 as well as the network adapter. He only ever played like 5 times. But i was all over this shit. It was the most fun Ive ever had online gaming.
I remember freaking out the first time I heard comms over the headset that came bundled with the game. What a time to be alive! Those were the glory days
This game brought me back into gaming even though I never played online because I didn’t have the internet adapter for my ps2. I started with the Atari before I went to the nes then the saga genesis then I lost interest. It wasn’t till I tried doom that my interest was peaked then I found half life and counter strike the. I bought a ps2 and found SOCOM and I’ve been a hardcore gamer ever since. It will always be my favorite.
SOCOM was my first online MP and I was addicted, I remember being on for practically 2 days straight. I enjoyed the PSP SOCOMS too. SOCOM games single handedly gave me long life friends. Zipper messed up with S4 we all knew it then... /6 Confrontation and the Artic DLC or whatever it was called was a nice touch but overall was an ok game, but I never quite got into as some of my other friends. There is so many ppl I miss from SOCOM. HeavensHell, LarryChachi, Gonzo_77, and loads more. Longshot but you never know who watches what on here. Honorable mention: SOCOM had good music for the game and even online lobbies did too (even if you did turn it down after sometime to socialize in pre-game lobby waiting to "G^") Man I miss the old vibe of the SOCOM community. Thanks for the nostalgia!
Bro I'm not subbed but you touched me on an interpersonal level, I'm slightly younger but my older brother played socom and rainbow 6 and ghost recon and I would watch him, my first online game was rainbow 6 las vegas on PS3 prior to that I never even knew you could play online 😂 but early 2000s man! we had a roll, games like desert storm changed my life I completed all of them split screen with my older brother, they simply don't make games like the way they used to.
this was my first online shooter and i spent over 1000 hrs on it, i loved socom 2 and confrontation but especially s2... it's alittle crazy to me that it doesn't get more shine on youtube, it was THE game to play on ps2, if you were playing a different game online (tony hawks, timesplitters, burnout) any other online game, it was then socom2 where you met up with everyone afterwards. great video man
wow this took me back to those days . I agree this was the game that opened the door to online multiplayer gaming..... I was ranked in the top 50 back then and this video just gave me a flashback! I may have to learn how to load SocomII on my pc just so I can experience this again. K4H on U.S East 6 server. I remember on the late nights could even go on different servers around the world ... that may have been socom 1 or 2 but it was great playing maps like "Abandoned" even the dark foggy map "Blood Lake" or Enowapi etc.... best game I ever played
My favourite game franchise, I was replaying them all recently actually. Also, just got an email, Taskforce released into early access for $8 AUD. It's hard to believe he actually released it...
SOCOM 2 online was legit analog adrenaline. 6 grenades, 5 minutes to breach and plant the bomb, and none of that sissy COD slowing down to shoot crap. Your aim had to be good enough to hit them at full sprint as they shot back at you(also in full sprint mode). No radar either. Truly my favorite online experience.
Ahhh Desert Glory, my most favorite map ever. I remember being a terrorist, and pulling the VIPs out of their cell, and then forcing them into the destructible corner of the room, then taking out my pistol and shooting them once each in the foot, just so that if the SEALS blew the wall it would kill the VIPs and give us the win lol. I miss this game! Sadly SOCOM 4 was ruined by having the cover mechanics put in and filled with clutter in order to be used as a gimmick for Sony to be able to sell the Move controllers and Sharpshooter attachment. Then the PSN hack finished the job.
Great video Fry, SOCOM is still one of the greatest online shooters. It has changed my life forever.. I will always chase the SoCrack feeling that SOCOM 2 gave us.
This is still the best online game i've ever played. I was 26 when this game came out (I am 46 now). I met some very good friends (A few of which I still game nightly with to this very day) and the others we still remain in touch. What set Socom a part from online games of today. Was the (Large maybe for it's time) but small community. There were golden rules set that you just didn't do. 1. You never brought out Grenade launchers (Unless it was agreed upon) 2. You never used the OP weapon (The IW). 3. During Clan wars it was always both teams choose a map and the tie breaker map was always "Crossroads". That would never work in todays gaming. Nobody has any respect, the communitys are too large. Most games are designed to play for your stats and to unlock the next cool gun. Even in team based games EVERYBODY plays for themselves. It was a very special time, one I am proud to say I was apart of. ^ACO^ was our clan two time top eight in the Eseals tournament
No other military shooter has ever recaptured the enjoyment I had with SOCOM I & II… The clan matches on GameBattles were always epic. The competitive community we had on each server, Italia, East, West, Etc… Met some of the coolest people on SOCOM. @BigFryTV You definitely brought back some memories showing those clips of gamebattles. I was in +|Discriminated, [TW], & +\Underrated/+… I went by Neglect.
I played Socom II for 2 years straight. I found so many friends online back then in this game. it was so much fun, words can't describe it. The best multiplayer shooter i have played till this day.
When Socom 2 was in its heydey I could've never imagined a world where it would be completely GONE and forgotten (by Sony). It was SOOOO much fun, so many memories... You could play it 1000 times and have 1000 unique experiences. And playing it NEVER got old. How is it gone???
LOVED SOCOM 2! I remember being in this clan where all of our names were names of liqours. Seagrum's 7 reporting in. I used to get off duty, come home and play this for hours in my uniform. Did not care. Absolute best online experience ever. Even after you die, joining your teamates and stratagize about the next round. Making plans. Watch out for those spawn grenades!
Very well said. SOCOM2 was a generational game. Current gen players will never realise how groundbreaking this game was, and still is. It blew me away in 2003, and twenty years later it blows me away even more. The arcade/sim gameplay, voice chat, map design, menu/lobby system, and OTS were masterpieces. It felt polished, premium, and unique. Twenty years later my Friends List mostly comprises of people I met on SOCOM2. We are strangers again now, and despite never playing together these days we exchange the odd message from time to time with the familiar report "...still waiting for SOCOM2...". At this point you have to wonder why Sony never re-invested in SOCOM2. I heard there were ownership issues regarding the codebase, but still.. Simply put, SOCOM2 puts every other multiplayer console game in the past twenty years to shame. Period.
I had a headset for the voice commands in single player and they never worked but it came into play once I discovered online gaming. I had never conceived of gaming online before and one day when I was like 8-9 years old before we had wifi I plugged the Ethernet cable from the modem into my ps2 and within a few hours I learned what it was like to have an adult make fun of me for not having hit puberty yet. That was traumatic at the time but it hardened me against the verbal abuse I would receive gaming in the future so I have socom to thank for that. It got to a point where i was afraid to talk on the mic because on top of sucking at the game so much my internet was dog shit, so everyone always hated my guts and would constantly remind me how much I suck. I remember being told to stop playing many times and taking it extremely personally. It was stressful but addicting at the same time. This might sound weird but your video touched me man, I would love to hop on and play that game again now that I’ve hit puberty and lived through another decade and a half
Miss it man. Also you look great bigfry! I haven't kept up with a lot of your content since the early hhour days but you're obviously killing it on RUclips and irl
Good stuff man, as usual. I cannot put into words how much I miss the old SOCOM days and playing clan wars on SOCOM Battles and eventually Game Battles. I started at 13 years old and I am 33 years old today and there is yet to be a game or franchise that has captured me the way SOCOM did throughout SOCOM II, III, and Combined Assault. I put up with Confrontation and recognized what Sony was doing to SOCOM 4 and it made me absolutely sick. Video games and especially online multiplayer shooters have become almost unenjoyable entirely as a whole. The devs today for the most part do not know how to make a good tactical shooter and I imagine the ones that do do not have the backing to support the skills. Some of the few studios that have the experience and knowledge are squeezed by dirty money hungry publishers who just trying to make as much money as possible and forcing devs to make the game they have to make and not necessarily the one they want to make. I really wish Sony PlayStation would wake the fuck up and bring back the SOCOM franchise with the right studio and leave them to make the game great again on PS5 with modern graphics at 120fps. I do not know if I would ever buy another game if they did that and it had the SOCOM II feel all over again. The way games are going and being made today, I imagine the PS5 may end up being my final console as I just cannot justify purchasing another console to play games that belong in a trash can outside of first party games like God of War and The Last of Us. Happy Anniversary SOCOM, there were just so many good memories. Long live the memories on my favorite franchise of all time and the SOCOM shuffle way of life! 👍
Right with you bud…! This game was everything to me. And nothing has come close sense. I came from Socom 1 online. And are clan was fire on 1 and 2. And we were monsters.
Socom was the first online game I ever played when ps2 came out, that game and socom 2 where amazing. Miss the tactics and just all the amazing people I met during those years.
SOCOM was so damn good. The game that got me hooked during the 2000s was Tom Clancy's: Rogue Spear. Thanks for this video @BigfryTV. This seriously brought back great memories.
I was there since day 1 of SOCOM. The server crashed on the first day BTW. Beta tester for SOCOM II. Played every version including SOCOM 4. No game has ever replaced my love for this franchise.
I’ve been playing on the PS emulator for the past month. I’m surprised I haven’t seen you on since you’re such a big fan. There’s been about 70 people online on the weekends. It’s been a great experience
metal gear solid on the ps1 is where it really started for me, but when going to my friends house to play medal of honor i remember watching his dad play online with his desert storm buddies. They used socom in the most tactical way online and I was blown away seeing people play in such a organized and communicative way. I've been chasing that my whole life.
i spent so much time on 3. 16v16 was an improvement in the aspect that we got giant maps with endless cover and concealment. Made great use of those gillie suits!
Nice to see Socom get some coverage on here. It was such a niche game back then, weren't many like it and not many to this day unless you count some of the hardcore tactical fps games. I got into socom 2 pretty late in its life cycle and then got socom 3 and combined assault. Confrontation wasn't as bad as people made it out to be but it could have been so much more.
im feeling represented by your childhood, i was 9 in 2003 but i tripped with FPS tactical games and RPG's. i mean, my first FPS game was Medal of Honor PS1. Thank you this was refreshing and nostalgic
Great video and retrospective man. You definitely earned my sub. Used to love this series as a kid back in the early 2000s. It peaked at part 2 and slowly went downhill afterwards. Confrontation’s launch was abysmal and I never had a chance to really give it a fair shot. And man don’t get me started on that half-assed COD attempt and PlayStation Eye camera/ controller Wii knock off seller of Socom 4 🙄 I really hope Sony consider reviving this franchise with a competent developer and fair budget. This game was the reason to own the PS2 back then for me. And this could easily validate me purchasing a PS5 today. Also, thanks for sharing the links for the dedicated PC servers. Respect from a fellow Socom fan!
This game deserved better. But alas, SONY dropped the ball so...today we pour one out for SOCOM

@@godspear100 Maybe one day, man!
Sadly all the poeple that made Socom are no longer there. I think new people will make a better socom anyways. @BigfryTV you can pool a team and make it with @bluedrake42 maybe you guys can just mod operation harsh doorstop to be third person with socom mechanics. food for thought.
@@BigfryTV Give the trailer on my channel a peep? I need help but we can do it! I'm glad there are still Socom players like this.
@@BigfryTV You seemed to forget MAG. Sony dropped Zipper after that game. It wasn't socom but it was actually super great fun when player count was good.
SOCOM 2 online will never be forgotten. Truly the best online gaming experience I've ever had in 30 years.
Agreed
I had a really good experience with Wolfenstein: Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the original Xbox Live. I remember how I managed to get it when I was in grade 5: I would grind a Diablo 2 multiplayer sorc to level 90, traded it for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, then I sold those cards at school to afford the Xbox Live Starter pack. Oh my, what a fucking time.
You can a still play it today. There's a whole discord of people who play. You can play it online either through emulation on PC or through a actual PS2. They show you how to get setup and everything. Very dedicated group of players.
try task force its almost a duplicate and only 6 bux on steam
@@DjTittySprinklez yes sir, I play Socom 1 every Sun night at 8 w/my adult son. He was too young back in 2002. He loves it.
Don’t forget about the strafe dive combo 😂
Vigor is the closest modern game I've discovered to SOCOM. It's available on all consoles free.
@@SpiritBox_ Really? Never tried it. Is it 8v8? Diff game modes like socom? Or you’re referring to gameplay
@@LeoLarrosa1987 mostly referring to gameplay. It has 3 different game modes and 8 or 9 maps
Being genuine here, I teared up a bit looking back at the golden days of gaming. Thank you Fry for the nostalgia.
Gaming isn't just a hobby. For some of us, it's a passion, and it's a real shame what has happened to it.
Gaming is soo much better now.

SOCOM is a series that will always hold a special place in my heart, SOCOM 2 especially.

Socom 2 was my first ever online game I ever played, I was completely blown away. It’s sad to see what happened to that franchise. Long live forever… Socom. Oh and before I go, GREEN UP!!
G^
I'm 40 now and the memories I have from socom are still here today. I met one of my best friends on socom and still talk to him on a daily basis to this day. What a awesome time to be alive .
Hell yeah
Same. I was in a clan called APD that lasted all the way through SOCOM 3 and I am friends with a bunch of them to this day
The OG SOCOM and the documentary in special features made me want to become a SEAL. low and behold, enlisted at 18, got a specwar contract, went to BUD/S, and graduated in Fall of 2013 with class 301. This game has changed a lot of lives
@@DisDatK9 hell yea man thats awesome!
@DisDatK9 im not American. Was born in Oceania and I watched and rewatched that docu so many times I was ready sign up for BUDS to become a SEAL.

Damn I want friends like you lol
Damn I feel old now. I remember when my uncle bought Socom and let us play it with the headset that came with it. We thought it was the coolest thing ever. Socom 2 was probably the best multiplayer tactical shooter I've ever played on console and the lobbies were a trip lol. I don't think there will ever be another experience like it. Back then, if you saw a dude with a high rank you knew he was no joke lol
RGLA snakeman was number 1 forever only because of rank hacking, he wasn't actually that good of a player, and he was kind of a D bag too.
i think that, having rank hacked enough to stay at number one for so long, the celebrity status went to his head and made him become kind of arrogant and narcissitic, i was surprised, because i killed the number one player easily, he wasn't even good
That moment when you grab lobby host and hold mic and talk mad shit lol
What do you think of the 3 and the combined assault?
They should have remade on HD for the Playstation network. Would have been easy with the new technology.... idk why they removed my comment for hate.... I had to write this twice..
People still play
Your Mom sounds really cool damn
Your mom played games, back then?? That's rare, there's more girl gamers now but back then especially shooters woman hardly played, let alone moms! Nice..
That game is trash but a cool mom none the less
Imagine if it was socom 2 or 3
@@botezsimp5808 There was one pretty well known older woman in the Socom community who posted on the Playstation forums under the name Sniperwolf.
Hope all is well man! Good to see you still out here grinding and enjoying content creation!
@@BigfryTV Yessir. Same to you man

The vote for behind you was a beautiful thing
Lol right! Was just talking about this with my older brother.
@Young Donald I'd run through Frostfire with my faithful m63! Lol
Voting was awesome until you accidently voted out a teammate because too many people did it at the same time! lol
Man that just gave me a Nostalgia bomb.
Forgot about that little nugget haha
Same story here, though. This was my first online experience too
dude, you just brought back so many memories man. I was there at beginning of SOCOM and was hooked. thank you for this, truly.
Idk whether that's a good or bad thing though.
i participate on diamond dogs for a while, but after knowing about les infants terribles i decided to find peace
Also, shit. Is my memory that bad? The first game didn’t have headset?.? I think I was off on what iteration I played first…
Same here brother. Socom Confrontation was my first online gaming experience and my first time joining a clan. That clan ending up being the reason I joined the Navy. So for real changed my life.
You are the people I looked up to as a chubby little kid. Thank you for your service!
I planned to join myself being part of NPF (Navy Peace Frogs) after I turned 18 but unfortunately I had too many health problems by then
Socom changed my life forever, too, dad bought it for me on a whim and we fell in love with the series.
Remaster both games with the multiplayer and release it as one.
Socom fireteam bravo 2 was my first ever multiplayer game. The community was great and clan rivalry was fierce. 10 out of 10 gameplay
Socom2 will always be my favorite game. I will meet you at the Crossroads
My all time favorite games. I tell all my friends about how good these games were. Hopefully we see a new one someday.
This brought back a wave of emotions some of my best gaming memories with friends and family are from Socom....omg I love this game. Thank you for this video.

OG Socomer here, thank you for making this video. PUBG is that game for me these days .
Its funny I picked up SOCOM 2 in a bargain bin at my local gamestop and completely fell in love with the series
Ha! I just saw SOCOM 1 at the local thrift store for $4.95 about 2 weeks ago and the memories flooded my brain almost instantly.
I can’t even put into words how much I love Socom!
Huge props to you on the vid sir, put a smile on my face and damn near a tear in my eye.
That video of little BigFry was the most epic thing I've seen on the internet today.
Best game ever. Played socom 1 and 2 non stop, was the game that got my parents to upgrade to cable internet .
Campaign mode was like a wine cooler
Man I was so late, I got the PSP-100 from my dad as it was his console when he was younger. Now I wish I just didn’t leave it for the switch I’m looking back and I have so much regrets now. I tried finding it on my PS5 but it was not there. I wish I could turn back time to the good old days 😔
Socom was amazing and my first online PvP experience. Snipe no X, Hide and seek and paintball were so fun to play.
Still play w guys I met playing socom 20yrs ago. Game changed lives and the scope of gaming. Great video
Man this is a great memory of the best Socom games ever made back then the music was so awesome and amazing.
Keeping the dream alive the best we can. Maybe one day SOCOM will return to its former glory
this was my first online shooter and i spent over 1000 hrs on it, i loved socom 2 and confrontation but especially s2... it's alittle crazy to me that it doesn't get more shine on youtube, it was THE game to play on ps2, if you were playing a different game online (tony hawks, timesplitters, burnout) any other online game, it was then socom2 where you met up with everyone afterwards. great video man
Archival BigFry footage intro?! Like the start of every true crime documentary. Also shoutout to Cum Master at 4:03😂
wow this took me back to those days .
You and I are the exact same age and this series and the original ghost recon are golden to me
Great video Fry, SOCOM is still one of the greatest online shooters. It has changed my life forever.. I will always chase the SoCrack feeling that SOCOM 2 gave us.
"Just one more game honey" . Now my ex-wife. Lol
@@ldcbossrob3938 lolllll
Playing this, ghost recon and rainbow six 3 was my best time to be a gamer
I remember watching my dad play this game. This game was truly before its time. Socom 2 and Socom 3 will always have a special place in my heart.
This specific game has so much memories for me!!! I had broken three lumbar in my back and was laid up for quite a bit. SOCOM was literally all I did
Socom was the first online game I ever played when ps2 came out, that game and socom 2 where amazing. Miss the tactics and just all the amazing people I met during those years.
The gaming love of my life
This game series.... man. So many memories with me and my older brother and neighborhood friends.
SOCOM was so damn good. The game that got me hooked during the 2000s was Tom Clancy's: Rogue Spear. Thanks for this video @BigfryTV. This seriously brought back great memories.
Man the clan wars where you had to have a third person moderate the mass amounts of shit talk was the best
Right before the war started. I said & typed
CNN- BIN LADEN CAPTURED!!!
we spawned & rushed to other side & often found 2-3 enemies AFK !!!!!
I was there since day 1 of SOCOM. The server crashed on the first day BTW. Beta tester for SOCOM II. Played every version including SOCOM 4. No game has ever replaced my love for this franchise.
Socom 1-2 is some of the best MP games ever made. I will never forget the first time I played it online, that was something special.
The SOCOM series was allowed to fade away but the player base was brilliant back in the day……thanks for the clips and nostalgia Big Fry
The Socom series will have a place in my heart forever I'm thinking about getting me a PS2 this year just so I can have that game again
Met some of my best friend on this game. Been friends with them 20 years and running.
Pistol Shotty rooms on socom 3. Killing Fields , Harvester. Sandstorm .... man I miss that game..still got my ps2 with a Copy of socom in it
i spent so much time on 3. 16v16 was an improvement in the aspect that we got giant maps with endless cover and concealment.
SOCOM definitely wasn’t niche. It was massively popular in its heyday. But talking about it today is niche lol
@@theDiReW0lf well maybe not niche but not as mainstream or accessible as say cod or other shooters of that time.
im feeling represented by your childhood, i was 9 in 2003 but i tripped with FPS tactical games and RPG's. i mean, my first FPS game was Medal of Honor PS1.
And man don’t get me started on that half-assed COD attempt and PlayStation Eye camera/ controller Wii knock off seller of Socom 4 🙄
I really hope Sony consider reviving this franchise with a competent developer and fair budget. This game was the reason to own the PS2 back then for me. And this could easily validate me purchasing a PS5 today.
Also, thanks for sharing the links for the dedicated PC servers. Respect from a fellow Socom fan!
