@@Plushie_Wynnie I never understood cake mix (having never used it myself). We just need to mix fixed quantities of butter, eggs, flour and sugar (plus baking powder and flavourings) and we get cake mix. I find the actual baking to be much more stressful.

Are you kidding me??? I'm a professional cake decorator as well and springtime is NOT slow if you're actually doing business! Between Easter and then just over month later graduation season starts which for cake decorators SHOULD be super busy...this woman may have been doing this a long time but it still takes skill and creativity which she obviously lacks 😅
Bake My Day Mimo uses box cake mix, but the difference is Mimo's cakes are legitimate works of art. This lady claims to have "worked hard" to get where she is. Somehow I highly doubt that.
There is also a very legitimate reason why Mimo and SO many other cake dekorators use box mix! It keeps the outcome consistent, it lessens the workload, it's HEAPS cheaper to make and thus also lowers the price of the finished cake and also important to mention is that companies have finetuned cake box mix to a t, with a fine balance of components that bakers don't even have access to just like that (This is done to guarantee a perfect outcome every time. Always same flavour, super fine crumbly texture, perfect rising, etc.). Also, their business is cake decorating afterall, not cake baking and extravagant flavours. The only issue with box mix is when the cake decorator doesn't disclose that they have used box mix and claim that their cakes are all homemade.
@@yuliaaaaaaaaaaa that comes down to personal preference What's meant is that Mimos specialty is the design and she is open about the mix while this lady is lying about using it and claiming that all of it was her own work
We have a Pretend Baker in my town too! She's 18 or 19. Yes, she uses boxed cake mix. Also found out that she uses the SAME box mix for all the different recipes... meaning her Angel Food items, Blondie bars, white chocolate items, Pound Cake, everything... are heckin WHITE CAKE with different food colorings. Lemon items dont have a trace of lemon flavor, just yellow dye. Furthermore, she manages to destroy the mix. I love cake and never say "No" to cake.😅 But her "Red Velvet" was the first cake of my life that I actually SPAT OUT and SHIVERED. How do you MESS UP a box mix that bad? (And dont get me started on that abortion of a frosting. 5 inches of sugar-tar on 2 inches of cupcake. With the flavor of packing peanuts. Jeezis.) Everybody in town shares these observations, but she's deaf to all critique and suggestion, insisting there's a deficit of people who "appreciate [her] craft." She thinks her customers are just tasteless peasants. With one glance, its apparent that she put far greater effort into the shop DECOR. Her website is full of pretty pictures, downright delusional product descriptions, and a romanticized bio about her "skills" and "business acumen" and "living the dream of a bakery by the sea..." 😏 Come to find out........ her crap bakery has been financially supported by the ice cream shop next door!!!! Everyone's favorite hole-in-the-wall that serves fantastic icecream! Simple and unpretentious..... and OWNED BY HER PARENTS!!!!! That's right, her parents support her business... at the expense of theirs. Whenever they're asked, "How is So-and-so's fancy bakery doing?" the dad just kinda pinches the bridge of his nose like he's sunken to a new depth of cringe and changes the subject. Poor folks. Dear Posers.... It takes a lot more than sugar pearls, hubris, and an Instagram.
You said it friend!! What kills me most about this baker and probably your local one...they just have an over inflated degree of self confidence! It's insane!!!
You probably could do way better One of the ladies in our office is British and bakes cakes as a side hustle. Her cakes are amazing, very professional .She does them for weddings, baby showers, anniversaries. Our old boss who retired orders from her brownies or other desserts from time to time. She made some really good strawberry lemonade cupcakes that were wonderful.Tina,s stuff is absolutely not a mix. If you use a mix, you should not charge people $70.00 for a cake.
Worked at a professional bakery, we used big bags of cake mix but added stuff like vanilla and butter instead of oil, the tricks you see to make it taste like cake cake, not boxed. Boxed mix is just the dry ingredients, its not a crime to use the box mix. The crime is charging 83 frickin dollars for a box mix cake when theyre maybe 5? At our bakery, they were $30 for an 8in, maybe more if you added extra layers and all that but for 30 you got flowers and borders and writing and everything. They were gorgeous! Not whatever this shit is
My mom and I make better cakes than that… and we aren’t even professionals, we just do it to make a bit of money with friends and family, and we don’t charge as much… we make more cookies than cake tho because we suck at decorating 😂
I’m binging these videos. I was a little bummed that you didn’t roast this chick for saying “I’ve been baking for years, but i only show pictures of other people’s cakes for inspiration, to show what we’re making.” She’s been baking for years and doesn’t want to use pictures of her own cakes as the example lol That’s gold.
3:20 this looks like a cake me and my friends would make during a house party in middle school while watching southpark... Not a 75.99$ cake.. what the fuck yall
My mum was a cake decorator for 20 yrs + and she was about to die when I showed her the photo of those cakes and I swear my 3 yr old sister can do better then her
I used to do sugarcraft aka handcrafted cake decorations. It’s like working with air dry clay but you just use a special sugar based paste as well as royal icing and fondant etc. The cakes were actually a completely separate thing and a lot of times the client would provide the cake themselves, made by their preferred cake maker and I would just decorated them. The stuff I made would take days or weeks to make depending on how elaborate they were. So we’re talking meticulously crafted flowers (they were my specialty) or whatever the client wanted. And I didn’t even charge as much markup as what this woman is charging for mediocre work at best. The least this woman can do with all the money she charges is to take sugarcraft lessons! There’s also just basic things she could do to make her work better, like cutting out the circles for the smiley faces in sugar paste using a circle cutter and then do the piping in the black. That would’ve made the cake look much more professional rather than something a child made- I’ve actually seen better cakes made a child! There’s nothing professional about her work or attitude! It’s shocking that she even has clients.
@@Thepresident498 How about authentic bakers? Like at home? My grandmother as well as my little sister likes baking. I just ordered my father in law a two tier cake from Walmart bakery for $65 with whipped icing. His birthday is on February 29 so a leap year birthday so I wanted to make sure he had a beautiful cake. I love how this baker says the client was “bashing” them on the woman’s PERSONAL Facebook account which means they were snooping. As for leaving a REVIEW, that’s not bashing. That is a client critiquing a product that they purchase with their money for a birthday. Don’t want ppl to have an opinion, don’t post your amateur work on an open platform. Especially for that price
I’m sorry, did she say the person who got the smiley face cake is a “repeat” customer? That they got a cake from her & then chose to get another one?? I’m so confused 😵💫
I'd hate to be that one guy, and I'm not professional, but baking is a huge hobby of mine. Making a cake from scratch takes a *lot* of time, so many professional bakers will use box cake, but enhance it, like using an extra egg, milk instead of water, and adding vanilla. (But you should definitely make buttercream from scratch) so bashing cake ppl for using boxes isn't so correct, so the price usually comes from how well the cake is decorated.. and I'll tell ya, that cake is *not* worth 80 dollars 😅
Putting all the dry ingredients together is literally the part that takes the least time though? I mean, maybe bakers on instagram do that, but I have personally never heard someone that is a learned baker using box mix, not even hobby bakers. My mom is a hobby baker and she makes everything from scratch, just like my grandma and all the other people I know that bake. But I live in Germany, so maybe the cake mix is what American bakers use? Usually here you only use that for kids tho, because most people find it too sweet here.
@@loen2629that’s interesting in America a lot of people just modify boxed cake mix, now I really want to try a cake from Germany to see the difference 😅

8:45 My mother worked at a bakery when I was ages 6-9½. So I think I have some insight here. Professional bakers and bakeries use cake mix. That's it. She insists on making my birthday cakes every year because it's cheaper. If you have the talent, then make your own cakes and save your money!
Omg, that "smiley face" cake is so bad. Chick, you're in the wrong field!! We don't need the backstory, we saw the cakes!!! The cakes say everything that needs to be said!! Her cakes, cupcakes, etc, are so bad. Idk who would order a cake from her.
So my friend's had her communion a few years ago, the day before me and her mum went to get the cake home and she let me have a peek... Guys.. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I think it was 4or 5 layers, covered in sugar paste, with perfect decorations all over and a true to life sized Bible on top. My friend told me she paid 160 pounds for it, which honestly... Isn't that bad, that was a work of art
I would flip my shit if I paid $83 and got any of those cakes!! Who in their right mind is paying $83 for that!! Walmart, HEB, any grocery store does far better than any of those. Oh! And not wearing gloves with those sprinkles. Disgusting! 🤮

Why did she even order from her in the first place????? Could have bought a cake at the store n decorated it herself for under $20 lol 😂 omg the fart noise on the Wednesday cake killed me lol 😂
Apparently ive watched some deep dive on the "baker"..she uses other people's (better) cake on her websites. Thats why the client order i guess, because it looked nice. Plus, it could be they dont have time to redecorate
Okay so I've seen a lot of bakers who have openly said they use boxed cake mix but the difference is they tweak the recipe, they make it better which in my opinion is totally fine but I don't think our lady does that
It's actually good to use box mix cuz yk same taste it comes out good whereas if U made your own it'd be different each time almost and also more time consuming so
bro i have a cake bakery close to my home and their cakes that have literally thousands of decorations and shit are 20 bucks max and they look infinitely more like an 80 dollar cake than this one
What if I use a cake mix, but don't charge $83? I wanna bake professionally, but If I don't make it from scratch would people see it differently? I just wanna know.
My cake was about 110 to 120 euros but they decorated it as I wanted them and even replaced the mini donuts i wanted (as they didn’t have them) with home made macarons and structured pink chocolate
I love baking, I’ve always wanted to be a baker and open up a bakery and seeing this freaks me out because I’m honestly afraid of doing it or just making everything that looks bad or being extremely rude to someone who payed for me to bake something for them. And the lady’s attitude makes me mad considering the first cake and the fact that she didn’t wear any gloves
^^ This! And also remember that simplicity is often best, especially when you are just starting out. Ya know? I’d suggest maybe even thinking of not a whole bakery yourself at first, but maybe work for one for a while, learn the ropes and expand your skills. You’ll be great!
Don't be afraid of criticism and definitely don't let it get in the way of your dream. Sure, it sucks to be told someone didn't like what you did but, there's ALWAYS an important lesson to learn. Some of it may be just nasty people but, most of it is for a genuine reason and It will either help with your product skills or your people handling skills. If your pricing matches your skill level and you're honest about what you're offering, most people are happy. It's when expectation does not meet reality that people get upset - like with this cake. The mistakes this person is making are absurd. She's charging FAR too much for her skill level which is amateur at best AND, she's publicly bagging her unhappy client which is absolutely a guaranteed way to lose custom. Also, and this is the important part, even if she thinks they're wrong, the very best thing she could have done was, sincerely apologise, take it on the chin, give the client a refund graciously AND, MOST importantly of all, take a good hard look at the standard of her product compared to items of the same price. Just because SHE thought her cake was worth $88 does not mean it WAS worth that at all. If you think someone's scamming you for free product by complaining, take it on the chin, apologise, refund them then, quietly blacklist them and move on. If you want to build confidence and skills before you start out, offer to bake for family and friends for the cost of materials in exchange for HONEST feedback and go from there. Good luck. Go forth and bake. 😊
Bro, that first rainbow cake looked SO DENSE. That would not taste good. and for any future bakers out there- PUT THE PHONE DOWN. Hold the frosting tube with both hands to make it stabilized. And another thing, box cake mix does not mean it tastes bad! A lot of amazing bakers out there make amazing cakes from boxes that just change up the recipes a little.
2:28 even if her hand is sanitized still will affect the cake/sprinkles 😭 imagine you sanitized your hand and touch food and then you eat it without even washing your hand first.
It’s extremely difficult to spread sprinkles like that without doing it with your hands. I’d get if you want her to wear gloves or something, but nothings wrong with using clean hands.
I made close to around 40 cupcakes and made an absolute mess making them, but they came out beautiful! I've never piped icing before and never made cherry chip anything, but I made them for my friend because I missed her daughter's first birthday. Cherry chip is her favorite.. She took a bite and loved them! So I was happy!
BakeMyDayMimo (i think thats how its spelt) uses box mixes too, however, she actually spends her time LEARNING how to do the forsting and the right techniques. Its not necessarily wrong to use box cake mix because of how long it takes to make a cake from scratch, but PLEASE! AT LEAST LEARN THE TECHNIQUES!! im pretty sure Mimo doesnt even have that high of prices!!
😂😭😂😭 She has no business charging $10 for a cake, let alone $80! I don't bake often and I can make a cake that looks several times better than that. THEN she had the nerve to insult people and their looks after people rightfully criticized those childish cakes. I'd never patronize that crow.
$60 and not even a filling?! NAH!! She would grow better as a cake artist if she humbled herself. It's okay to admit you're still learning. I know I got a long way to go myself. 💕
Wonder why she didn't just use a round cookie cutter on fondant to make the happy face circles if her hands weren't steady lol. Nothing wrong with being a beginner, just be honest about it and let your clients know that you are still learning and perfecting your craft, and only charge enough to cover the cost of ingredients until your work is up to professional standards to charge nearly $100 for a cake! It's less money in the short term but in the long run, it's better to not turn off every customer in your immediate area.

If she has been doing this for 3 years I think she said and her decorating skills is still shitty that means she dosent care about her business or customers. That fact that you haven’t gotten better in those years just shows you shouldn’t be selling cakes and charging that amount .. that looks like my daughter made that and decorated it herself 😢
As someone who bakes for fun, the cake I made and clumsily iced when I was nine looks gourmet compared to this nightmare.
I think box cake is fine as long as your clients know and you actually have decorating skills lmao.
I mean most bakers DO use boxed cake mix, but use more liquid ingredients to make it taste better
@@Plushie_Wynnie I never understood cake mix (having never used it myself). We just need to mix fixed quantities of butter, eggs, flour and sugar (plus baking powder and flavourings) and we get cake mix. I find the actual baking to be much more stressful.
Not for 80$ for a small one.

@@mirandapanda5439 do you know bake my day mimo? Yeah, she's a baker and also uses cake mix. She (I think) said that sometimes they use more liquid ingredients than the instructions say just to make it taste better.
I kind of don’t like mimo’s designs though
@@yuliaaaaaaaaaaa that comes down to personal preference
What's meant is that Mimos specialty is the design and she is open about the mix while this lady is lying about using it and claiming that all of it was her own work

Jeezis.)
Everybody in town shares these observations, but she's deaf to all critique and suggestion, insisting there's a deficit of people who "appreciate [her] craft." She thinks her customers are just tasteless peasants.
With one glance, its apparent that she put far greater effort into the shop DECOR. Her website is full of pretty pictures, downright delusional product descriptions, and a romanticized bio about her "skills" and "business acumen" and "living the dream of a bakery by the sea..."
😏 Come to find out........ her crap bakery has been financially supported by the ice cream shop next door!!!!

And the lady’s attitude makes me mad considering the first cake and the fact that she didn’t wear any gloves
Honestly you should be fine, just remember when you get out there have like a store page with reviews on It. And make it so ppl see reviews first.
