Ingleborough ¦ Yorkshire Dales Hike
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 сен 2024
- In this video we hike a circuit starting from the village of Ingleton and taking an anti-clockwise route up to the summit of Ingleborough. We then descend via a different, and slightly steeper, route back back down the north-western side of Ingleborough to Chapel-le-dale. From there we follow the route of an old Roman road back to our starting point at Ingleton.
The walk is around 11 miles over all, and the ascent/descent of Ingleborough is fairly steep and uneven. Please bear this in mind if you are planning to do this walk.

Always a pleasure to see a vlog from you Des. That was certainly a steep down. I'd had to go off the path in bad weather with sink holes like that. Thanks for sharing, loved the vlog.
Hi Chris! Most of the path was really good. One section needed a bit of care in the wet. That limestone is like walking on glass when it's wet! Would have been nice to have a bit more visibility, but a great day in the hills anyway! 😁 Many thanks for watching!👍
Nah then, ay up me duck.
I love the Yorkshire countryside, there's a certain magic about its rugged beauty. Big thumbs up from me buddy 👣👍
Ay up! 😁 Yes, even on a pretty grim day it was a pleasure to be up there. And the sun even put in appearance for me the following day! Cheers for watching & catch you soon👍👍
I am an old seaman, and I feel a certain affinity for the Yorkshire countryside and your experience there. Many thanks.
You're welcome, Jack! Really pleased you enjoyed watching👍😁
Yorkshire looks very beautiful ❤️❤️❤️! Great love and respect from a solo mountain hiker friend from the Hindu Kush Mountains Lower Chitral District of Pakistan!
Hello Sana! Yorkshire is a wonderful and varied county! Many thanks for watching👍😊
Great to get out even though the weather didn’t cooperate. Sounded very cold up at the summit with wind and cloud. It does look slippery on the wet stones. Lovely to see the colors of the landscape despite the moody weather. Have a great week ~ Jennifer 👍👍
Hi Jennifer. The air temperature wasn't that cold, but the wind whipping across my wet hands seemed to sap my body heat! It was a bit slippery on the way down. That limestone gets very polished by all the passing boots! A great day in the hills though, despite the weather👍😁
Beautiful hike in the fog and interesting to hear about the Roman history and limestone. The area by the farm was beautiful. Very nice to see the old roman road. 👍 Thank you for taking us along and I hope you have a good weekend.
Hi Nicole! Glad you enjoyed it👍 That remote farmhouse and the area around it was beautiful. I bet it must be a tough place to live and work in really bad weather, though!
Many thanks for watching! Hope your weekend is going well too👍😊
Yorkshire mountains are stunning, but I’ve never seen them myself. Only on RUclips, TV & in guide books. One day, I’ll get up there for a good hike. Thanks Des. It looks like a tough walk but very enjoyable too. 😊
Hi Rachel. I'm sure you'd really enjoy it up there! Just a pity I couldn't show you any of the views 😁 Luckily the sun made a rare Yorkshire appearance the following day! Many thanks for watching & have a great weekend👍😊
What a fantastic hike.
This place is amazing and relaxing!
It really is a fantastic hike! Many thanks for watching👍😊
Hi there. Another lovely hike. As you say the mist adds to the feeling of remoteness, although the jet fighter was a bit of a noisy interruption! Thanks for taking us along👍😀
I think the RAF are tracking my movements recently! 😁 It would have been nice to see the views up there, but it was still a great experience to be up in the clouds! All the best & thanks for watching👍😊
Hi there, new friend here from Las Vegas 🇺🇸
I like your walk in this beautiful countryside. I enjoyed the serene atmosphere and the views!
See you again soon. ~Pam ❤
Many thanks for watching, Pam! Glad you enjoyed the walk, even though the weather wasn't too great!👍😁
Great hike, Des! The mist added to the atmosphere and the Roman history was fascinating. Thanks for taking us along! 👍🏼😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Some views would have been nice, but still an excellent day in the hills👍😊
Great walk Des in a great landscape. I moan and groan about my Ingleborough experiences but did encounter a trip of 13 dotterel on the summit a good few years back.
The little church at Chapel le Dale is interesting too. Apparently, some of the navvies who died building the local stretch of the Settle to Carlisle are buried there.
Cheers Chris! I did enjoy it, despite the weather. Although that last stretch with the rain driving in my face did sap the morale a bit! 😁 The little chapel was a gem. I'll make a point of having a better look around if I'm back there on a better day👍👍
Noswaith dda Des! That was a good walk, shame about the weather, it was so misty in parts especially up at the trig point. So quiet but like you said, probably really busy at weekends and it was nice where you stopped for water. I love walking on Roman roads and imagining what had gone on there in the past :) I enjoyed this and I bet you were glad to get to the pub at the end though :) ~ Anna 👍
Noswaith dda, Anna! It was a lovely walk, even though the weather was a bit grim! Some time I'll have to see if I can find that stretch of the Roman road that I read was better preserved. The part I walked along needed a lot of imagination! 😁 Definitely glad to sit down with that pint at the end! Hwyl, a diolch yn fawr am wylio!👍😊
Great going for an old codger Des!😉 very atmospheric in the mist👍👍👍
Cheers Anthony! Hopefully a few more miles in me yet 😁🤞
You really sold a good walk on a misty wet day Des (not that us walkers need to be persuaded (they are some of the best times I think in the hills and Dales 🤠👍))
Alway a pleasure to walk with you in a cyber sense mate 😊👍
Pint 🍺 definitely earned🙏🏼
Best wishes Simon 🤠👍
Cheers Simon! Not the best weather for vlogging, but it did make for an atmospheric walk! The Roman road into the rain did manage to sap the spirits a little! 😁 Was ready for that pint! 👍😊
Off on a longer Donder, going castle hunting. Catch up when we return
Cheers David! Have fun👍👍
Holy crap man, that was a nice walk but I think on a damp day like that I would be looking for a pub with a checkerboard set up in the corner by a fireplace.
It was a bit of grim day for hiking...I think definitely earned that visit to the pub at the end! 😁 Many thanks for watching & see you both soon👍😊
Excellent 🔄⭕🔄
Thank you! Best wishes & see you soon!👍😊
Hi Des, good to see you in the Yorkshire Dales again! Despite the mist, that looked like a darn fine walk up onto Ingleborough. If you think you're an old codger, at least you're still getting out there climbing these peaks! 😁 Hope you enjoyed your Ingleton Pale at the end 🍺 All the best 👍
Hi Patrick. Had a lovely couple of days up there! Luckily the sun appeared on day 2 😁 Really enjoyed the walk, despite the weather, but I was ready for that pint! Cheers for watching and catch you soon👍😊
Great hike Des, in a beautiful part of the Dales. Shame about the clag but well done for boshing out a decent length walk with a fair bit of ascent, despite the weather!
Cheers Greg! It was a great day in the hills, even with the poor weather. To be honest, it was only that last stretch with the rain in my face where it actually felt a bit grim. I was ready for that pint!👍😁
Years since we have been in Ingleton and been meaning to do the waterfalls walk for years, must do it this year. I think this is the only one of the 3 peaks I have actually done, which was about 15 years ago, so a lot to do down there for me. Shame about the weather and it got worse, dam shame you could not have done the walk the previous day but great to see you finishing off with a pint, cheers Alan
Hi Alan. I was wondering if it was possible to join the waterfall walk at the top and finish off my route that way. It's not clear from the map, and I was pretty wet and worn out by that point anyway! 😁 Yorkshire Dales weather seems to take no notice of the forecast, but at least the next day was sunny!
Cheers for watching! All the best👍😊
Thanks, enjoyed that.. Might check that route out. 😁👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you get better weather if you do try it👍😊
Amazing 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks for watching👍😊
shame about the mist, i am sure the views would have been stunning. still a nice area to hike 🙂
Hi Cara. It does tend to get a lot of that sort of weather around there, but a nice atmospheric walk in the clouds, and it does give your navigational skills a good test!👍😁
I've cycled through Ingleborough a couple of times from Slaidburn to Hawes. Hard work but worth it for the scenery 👌 Blot Outdoors gave you a plug on channels he likes to watch on his stealth camp behind some garages .
You've made it Mandingo Des👍😃
I bet that is a tough cycle route! 🤤 I love BLOT, but I've still got to watch that video! 😁
Nice hike
Thanks Naomi! All the best & see you soon👍😊
Being a pair of old rogues ourselves we plan on doing the Yorkshire three peaks. However we aren't mad enough to do it in one go ao we will be doing the three Peaks in a week so we can have rest days between😀
Rest days? I took a rest year before doing this last one! 😁 Such a beautiful hiking area though! And I hope the clouds stay away for you👍 Many thanks for watching! Catch you soon👍
Lovely stuff Des. Well not exactly lovely but you know what I mean.
I went up Pen Y Ghent in exactly the same weather but strangely that hill didn’t seem as remote as Ingleborough looks. At the top in the clag, yes, but the up and down seemed close to civilisation! Whereas Ingleborough looks really remote!!
Top effort in that weather mate and I bet that pint tasted good!!
Hi Dave. I've been lucky the couple of times I've been up Pen y Ghent, with the mist miraculously parting as I've reached the summit 😁 It's not actually too far from Ingleton to the summit of Ingleborough, so maybe just the weather that makes it feel remote in the video? Either way, I was glad to sit down with that pint! 😁
@@DesGreene 😃 yes indeed mate. Just checked the map - you’re right Ingleton from Ingleborough is about the same distance as Horton from Pen Y Ghent.
Must have that weather 😃😃
Es hat mir sehr gefallen danke, Gruß Siggi und Marianne 🎹 schöne Woche, Abofreund 👍🔔❤️
Danke sehr Siggi und Marianne! Ich hoffe dir eine schöne woche, auch👍😊
Nice walk that Des...shame about the clag on the top...the Ingleton pale looked good.
Hi Steve. Yes, a good walk, despite the weather. Forecast was good, but I don't think the Yorkshire Dales tends to pay much heed to forecasts! 😁
We have gotten so far behind. Sorry about that. When we took off, we took off of everything. 😂😂. Missed seeing you. It started off really pretty, but you got cold so fast. Or at least it felt that way. The shelter of the mountain must have really helped. Glad you figured out your misdirection pretty quickly. Looks like you had quite the trek. Be safe, Bill and DeAnna
It's so easy to head off in the wrong direction in mist like that! Luckily I realised quickly that I'd taken the wrong path 😁 It was a bit of a cold and wet day to add unwanted miles onto the hike! Many thanks for watching👍 You take care also!👍😊
Awasome sir
Thanks very much! All the best to you👍😊
Hi Des, another fab walk, shame about the clag. The ingleton falls and white scar cave are an interesting visit if you’ve never done them.
What waterproof jacket do you wear? The collar on it looks great!. Reason I ask is because with me been on the larger side I need a big collar , between 20 & 22” in shirt size 😂. So struggling slightly.
Hi Mark. I'll check out the walk up to the falls next time. I was wondering if I could work it into the route, but I'd pretty much had enough by the time I got back near it 😁 The jacket is a Berghaus one. Can't remember the name of it, but one of the mid-range ones. It has served me well. I'm only a shrimp at about 5ft6, but I bought it deliberately on the big side so I could layer up.
Certainly sounded steep Des.
God’s Own Country
👍🏻
Ha ha, yes! Puffing like a steam train I was 😁 Cheers for watching👍
