I played most of the racing games in the market and none of them managed to hook me up like Driveclub. Shutting down the Evolution studio was one of sony's worst mistakes.
I don’t think there is another game that could match Driveclub’s rain effects, even after nearly 6 years its still holds up but it is very sad that we won’t see a Driveclub 2 anytime soon.
Plenty of games could have matched. DC was intentionally built to be a graphical arcade racing showcase. It had 30fps, less vehicles on screen, and virtually ZERO sim physics. That means the devs could put all of PS4 power into graphics, weather effects and reflections. GT and Forza are both Sims that use more processing power on tires models, suspension set up, smart A.I. and more cars on screen. Not to mention both games run at 60fps. So if GT and Forza devs wanted to make a graphical game like they DC, they could have no problem as it's all about design direction. Next gen, expect both Forza and GT to look graphically like DC but with sim aspects AND 60+ fps.
@@rotaryperfection GT Sport and Forza are Simcade games, not full on Sims and like I said Driveclub is still looks way better in terms of Graphics than both GT and Forza.
I bought it used a few days ago. Had a lot of fun but when I got to faster cars it's not really playable anymore. It's best with slower cars. Like in Forza Horizon, where I thought the game was at its best at A series cars, and started to be chaotic from S upward.

Driveclub really was 5 years ahead of its time. Plus I think the car sounds on Driveclub are the most accurate and realistic of all the racing games I’ve played. And the cockpit view is A1
I still think that Driveclub has the best graphics of all the racing games out there - oh and no, 60fps vs. 30fps isn't going to win gt sport any point, since gt sport feels so much slower than Driveclub
Not to hate on you bro but it would have made more sense to use the actual same car for both games GT Sport does have separate sound file aspects for the road going ferrari 458 and the GT4 ferrari 458, specially regarding shifting, backfiring and the interior's
Driveclub is still jaw dropping to this day. I always appreciated their attention to detail. I remember watching an interview with the developers and they were talking about how they had several microphones inside and outside of every single car they had in the game to get the real true sound of each car. They said, on average, each car took approximately 6-8 months from start to finish to complete.
@@minners71 That's the exact same thing I was gonna post. Sony killed a brilliant studio, then kicked its corpse by taking out the leaderboards. One of the biggest tragedies in gaming this gen.
@@kelbinhow 4:05 some textures are superior in GTSport. The resolution is higher sure - but that doesn't mean the textures are less detailed. Grass/Dirt on the other-hand - looks superior in Driveclub.
Driveclub being 30 FPS is really it’s biggest drawback. It would have to sacrifice a lot of its additional effects to hit a 60 FPS and be closer to the GT sport performance.
Odin's Playground with as good as the game looks the ps4 wouldn’t be able to handle 60 FPS now if this game gets a sequel or a remaster on the ps5 it’ll definitely happen
I played the living HELL out of Driveclub before GT Sport released. Loved that game to bits and pieces. Even after buying GT Sport, I still oftentimes went back to DC because how much I missed that immersion and sense of speed that’s just simply unmatched. Throwing the hardcore handling on that bad boy and you’ll have a less arcade feel to it. There’s no comparison in sound. DC executes the sound nearly PERFECTLY with the exception of that tunnely effect to it. For the Ferrari 458, there’s an article talking about how they had the recorded Ferrari sound and just simply did a few edits to it. That BMW is nearly the same as if you hear an M4 straight from the exhaust, you can hear that little noise it produces when going through gears. Also, Hypercars sound absolutely AGGRESSIVE in DC. McLaren P1 and LaFerrari are my all-time favorites.
Koenigsegg one 1 is incredible. The Lamborghinis too. I take my hats off for the sound design of the game. If you change views with the free camera, you can hear the engine much louder if it is located in the front compared to the sound from behind the car. The game had so much polish to it. Sadly, Sony killed off the studio :/. I really wanted a MotorStorm for the PS4 and PS5.
This. I played the crap out of DC, then GTSport online became my thing. But DC was the best online racing I ever experienced as far as what you stated. Crew 2, FH4, NFS, Forza 6 or 7 don't replicate that experience.
and include all the DLCs / Season pass from the get go, because apparently you can't even purchase them anymore. So, many cars, bikes, tracks and events are not accessible and lost forever.
Imagine if they remastered it on PS5 with Ray tracing, higher resolutions, all DLC, extra cars and tracks. We can probably only imagine though considering how Sony barely cares about driveclub.
I actually enjoyed Drive Club and I was disappointed that they shut it down. It deserved a sequel. GTS is my favourite, I’ve always been a GT fan since I was a kid. DC in the Wet was the most visually stunning experience I have had in those conditions and the rain physics on the windscreen was incredible. Every now and then I’ll jump on just to experience the wet weather effects. It would have been nice to have DC and GT for the PlayStation but we really only have one exclusive now and that’s GT. Perhaps DC could have been our Forza Horizon because I’d love a game like that for the PS. DC still holds up well and is a nice little gem to the PlayStation community. Gran Turismo Sport has incredible details and graphics for a PS 60FPS game and I really love the sound effects, the car sounds have never been so good in Gran Turismo before so I really hope they can continue that and improve them even more in GT7 or Sport 2. I can’t wait for the next game on next Gen hardware. 🏁🏎🏆 P.S I love Direct Comparison great work Nick.
For everyone that misses Evolution Studios: The new Dirt 5 is made by what is left of them in a new studio called Codemasters Cheshire. I am pretty much hyped.
Makes me wonder what Evolution Studio could have done if they upgraded Driveclub for the PS4 Pro or even got to make a Driveclub 2. Sad day when they closed. Loved they race games.
Still hate that Sony killed off Driveclub. The game had it's flaws but it felt fresh, was a ton of fun & unbelievablely gorgeous. Had far more fun with it compared to GT. Would've loved to see Evolution get to improve on it for a sequel.
Actually higher resolution never means more details, a game like red dead redemption 2 in 1080p still has more details than the witcher in 4k, resolution means almost nothing over 2k
Graphics comparison doesnt do it justice. Gran Turismo is really lame when it comes to drivong snd sense of speed itself...same as it ever was. What matters IS the sense of speed, driving and viceral car sounds. Driveclub has all of that Gran Turisml still falls short.
As a MEGA fan of both Driveclub and GT sport, this video has a lot of inconsistencies. The models in GT sport are of higher quality than the ones in DC . When you enter photo mode in DC the game swaps in the highest LOD car , in GT sport the highest LOD car is never swapped in, instead of the game swaps in its third-highest LOD model, the second LOD model is reserved for the garage and livery editor and the highest LOD model is reserved for its SCapes mode and dealership. In actual gameplay Id venture to say gt sport has better quality on MOST cars, some are very poor but I can count them with my hand. In in-game photo mode drive club has a higher LOD , in-scapes mode, GT shits all over anything out today, they modeled the screw heads ( id be happy to provide pictures btw) . On the topic of tracks.. Drive club is made up mostly of close circuits not point to point tracks . Drive club has 2 sprint tracks per country , 3 tracks based around public roads, three tracks based on one closed circuit and three tracks based on a city location added when VR came out. This is the same for all 6 world locations, there are only 12 sprint tracks compared to 54 closed-course tracks ( dc has 66 tracks not including reverse ) . Lighting and shadows: Gt sport destroys Driveclub at night. Light sources don't cast shadows in driveclub ( light post ), they do in gt sport , nuf said.
GT runs at a higher resolution and a higher framerate than DC. So I doubt the models are more detailed as well.... Optimization is a game of give and take my brother.
@@bliglum Doubts =/= Facts. Go to scapes mode & see for yourself. It's a fact that PD future proofed GT Sports car models for inclusion in later Gran Turismo iterations (PS5 ready). Adaptive tesselation is used to scale down detail during gameplay.

Even when all the haters were making their tired jokes about Driveclubs launch I played it to 100% and beyond. I miss the game for feel and over all enjoyment. And I was mocked by people when I would say Driveclubs graphics especially the weather and lighting effects are a generation ahead of anything else others are putting out. And still after all these years not a single racing game has come close to matching the details of Driveclub. The folks over at Evolution studios must have had some magic powder or something.
DC runs at 30FPS. When you factor in other things such as physics, A.I., resolution, more cars on screen, open world, etc it becomes painfully obvious. The developers prioritized graphics. You really can't compare DC to GTS, FMS, or FH.
It's amazing how well driveclub holds up considering it's age. I remember when it first came out thinking this looks like real life. Even now with new racing games the graphics still look amazing.
For a 2014 game DriveClub is still hands down the most beautiful racing games out there, if it was open world game with better customization, sim cade physics and a story then it would easily beat forza horizon 4, the crew 2 and nfs. Sadly the game studio got shutdown :(
@@justanotheridiot3862 Oh yes, I forgot about it. I still dream of a Driveclub and Motorstorm spiritual successor from them. Sony could even sell the IP to Codemasters if they don't to do anything with it.
I feel sad every time thinking about those DLC cars that I haven't purchased and can never own... Hope there's a way to at least obtain the season pass...
Same here as well. There has been talk about being able to buy the season pass and bikes DLC through GameStop Italy. I've also seen the German Amazon still sell the season pass code for Austrian PSN accounts. So, if you know someone in Italy or Germany, you may be in luck to give it try. You might also be able to have someone gameshare the content with you - but make sure it's someone you trust.
NOVAnimations AN Successfully obtained the season pass, now waiting the EU version disk to arrive. Thank you for the information, never thought I will be able to play with those DLC cars... you made my dream comes true!
ThreeDaysOfDan I’ve already bought No Limits pack, which means I only miss 2 cars, Regera and XJ220... and all bike stuff as well. That really sucks, but having most of them is enough for me to get exciting.
Y'all noticed that in driveclub, not only are the reflections high quality and updates incredibly quickly but the paint has imperfections and bumps as well
Yet people in the comments seem to think it's "a game ahead of its time". The game looks great for a 2014 racer but with GT you get double the frame rate to sacrifice few effects. Even watching this video was painful to go from 60fps down to 30
That’s definitely it’s only downside. Going back to it after playing games like Dirt Rally, PCars 2 and such isn’t particularly easy on the eyes, despite the gorgeous graphics.
Too bad Driveclub had such a screwed up launch and couldn't find an identity..... then gets closed down and the game ENTIRELY removed from the game store and all DLC is free lol I kinda wish I had bought the motorcycle stuff.... but.... I don't play racing games that much as is..... and I couldn't justify buying then. Shame.
I still resent myself for not getting the last car-based DLC pack that came out because I forgot. When I remembered it had already pulled out of the store :( The motorcycle side of the game though was pretty disapointing. The physics of the game weren’t tuned for bikes and it shows. You’re way better off with the Ride series by Milestone if you’re into bikes.
The problem I had with DriveClub was it had the most realistic graphics I'd seen, but then super arcadey and unrealistic driving physics. I just couldn't get used to those opposites. I guess I was expecting something more sim-like but with the cool social aspect. The driving just felt weird and unnatural. It's a massive shame because it was the most beautiful driving game for sure.
Sony killing Evolution was one of their biggest mistakes this generation, just imagine what those guys could have done later in the gen with DRIVECLUB 2. It's an entire genre of racing game missing from the Playstation catalog now, sadly.
Damn Driveclub still looks absolutely gorgeous to this day. Legit if the Driveclub franchise continued and even had an open-world spinoff, it definitely would've been Playstation's worthy competitor to Forza.
Forza Motorsport games have tried to compete with Gran Turismo but have never matched GT's huge sales numbers. GT Sport reported to have sold over 9 million copies compared to Forza 7 selling fewer than 2 million. So Driveclub would have been a much better competitor to Forza.
This game...is AMAZING...! Beautiful graphic and despite the lower resolution, the level of detail and physics surpass many high profile racing games. SONY close this Studio, bad decision, and they leave alive the boring GT...WTF?
the biggest difference between the 2 games is framerate, driveclub's framerate target is 30fps allowing it to focus on greater graphical fidelity at the sacrifice of the gameplay experience. while GT sport focused on 60fps at the drawback of graphical effects. Personally for a racing 60fps should always be the target and GT sport very much exceeds in this, but driveclub is still one of tehbest looking driving games out there especially in geo density and FX work such as the rain having physical interactions, instead of a backed animation and geo that wipes away. Sound driveclub engines sounds have now been used by the car manufacturers as they focus very heavily on the sound quality, you can go and look this up as there were a couple of articles about how they made the audio for driveclub, GT sport cars all have that turbo wine and are not unique to the car, and the audio in the outside sounds like the microphone was hooked directly to the engine, still sounds very good though and they went with a different approach to driveclub.
But why they comparing a game of launched in 2013 and gr sport launched in 2017. If I decided driveclub is a technical masterpiece and graphics are way ahead of it's time. Just compare driveclub and forza horizon 2 . It's fair video . Driveclub is still the winner
@@benchmarkslab2005 I don't know where I said that driveclub is not impressive. The reason to compare a game that is several years apart is to see how games have evolved and see what is being prioritised. Driveclub had an important job of showing what PS4 is capable off as it was supposed to be a launch title so they focused on graphical fidelity instead of framerate. GT sport is a late generation game they know how to optimise on the hardware so they can push framerates higher as well keeping a strong graphical presentation by optimising on effects that affect the ps4 hardware strongly such as physics due to the weak cpu. Forza Horizon 2 is an open-world game again they would have to optimise the game to work at the target fps and will have different challenges from driveclub and GT sport, also froza horizon 2 is on a weaker console CPU and GPU.
By the way, GT Sport has much more detailed models in the showroom and scapes mode! Since the game targets 60 FPS, models are much less detailed on track.
DC also has a showroom called the Garage, it has the Vehicle, still fully detailed like it is on track, in a massive Canadian landscape and skybox, GT sport also looks plastic-y compared to DC with less dynamic sounds, the hood cam also allows for a better sounding, more raw engine compared to chase cam, and case chase isn't terrible compared to the fixed chase cam of GT.
@@harveyhall2350 "still fully detailed like it is on track" But still not as detailed as GT Sport's models, in fact. And I play and enjoy both. "GT sport also looks plastic-y compared to DC" Ehhh i'd say both have their lots of inaccuracies. Plus it really depends on the paint and paint material in both games. "the fixed chase cam of GT" That's something so many people who haven't played GT Sport & GT7 will bring up. You can set the camera so that it sways more. It has limits and won't sway around like other games, but it's still far from completely fixed. The other points are valid, but both games have their own strengths and weaknesses for any technical tidbits & fidelity. They're both as gorgeous as each other, but in different ways. I'd still love a DriveClub 2 though...
I remember loving the Mclaren fl LM. Back when I was really good my friend thought he could beat just because it was an old car. He raced me in the Hennessy venom, Mclaren p1, and Königsegg Agera. I beat him every time without a scratch. Now I play competitively in dirt rally 2.0. Thank you driveclub for the memories and for helping me get my confidence. I will never for get you. You will be the best racing game in my mind forever. Once I get a wheel it’s the first game I’m playing. Then I’ll play the VR too.
Man, driveclub, despite its age, is a great looking racing game, easily beat GT sport here tbh in most areas. Forza and driveclub are my 2 fave racing games and are what driving games should be like. The feel, the look, everything.
I would add the project cars series. PC2 was a masterpiece. Its my goto when I want a racing fix. can only imagine their next game. Fh4 is arguably the best racing game ever made. Both studios are due for something new. Could you imagine if they where both launch titles💵💵💵💵
@@wavybump forgoot about project cars. I did enjoy the first one but it felt so arcadey for me compared to other racers. Never played the second one though, does look a hell of a lot better than the first. Yeah i agree, FH is a phenomenal game.
I don't know why Sony stopped online multiplayer support (to bring people to GT7 online and increase sales maybe?!). We need Driveclub on PS5, remastered in 4K 120 fps. I bet their talented devs can do it!
@@blazesmooth5573 Without all the GT7-esque bells and whistles like ray tracing etc, it may well be possible. But I agree, generally speaking we probably won't see many 4K 120FPS games as devs favour graphical fidelity over frame-rate.
Bluff Master Every game you just mentioned has way way better physics than driveclub. Graphics aren’t everything. Assetto Corsa is a racing sim and so is PC2. Dirt Ralley 2.0 is a sim. Grand Turismo is a simcade and Dirt 4 is a simcade. Forza horizon 3 and 4 are arcade open world racers. Have you even played half of theses games?
Just one thing to point out, you specifically mention rain was not available at launch with GTS, but did not mention it was also not available at launch in DC as well.
They put sound of a dogbox tranny or a racing differential wich is quite noisy in real life . But like you say why they did it ,I have the same question.
You feel like your car is locked in one position and the world is sliding underneath you. It is really a stange feeling, and I can't feel the same with other racing games.
@@monsieurbenno you shouldn't have to adjust the camera settings. Its a racing game, it should always feel like it, no matter what settings the camera has been adjusted too. Thats why people see driveclub and forza as the better and superior racing games over GT.
Worth mentioning is the fact that Driveclub runs at 30fps therefore it deals with the budget of 33ms per frame. On the other hand round, GT Sport is 16ms per frame game.
I'm probably the only one but anyone getting project gotham racing 4 vibes when playing driveclub? Come to think of it,could you say driveclub is a spiritual successor to the pgr series? Because when I recently played pgr4 during the heavy rain sequences,I forgot how good the rain looked in cockpit view and how it was probably the first game to implement physics based water movement(like in driveclub),fastforward to driveclub, the rain acts like in pgr4 but greatly improved and vamped up.
Driveclub wins by default for having better content. To bad it wasn't open world. Just the announcement of Gtsport years ago made me buy a xbox and g920. Enjoyed fh3 and 4 since
@@antxn I've went from DriveClub to Assetto Corsa in one day and the free 360 camera view in DC just spoiled me, I had to go back. Every arcade/sim-cade racer needs 360 camera view IMO. But I don't expect it in sim racers like AC.
I know it's a stretch, but since you have a good wheel setup now, I'd love to see a DC episode on nr2003 (NASCAR Racing 2003 Season) vs iRacing. It'd be interesting because iRacing was built out of the source code for nr2003. After Papyrus went under after NASCAR took away their license as every sports league seemed to be giving EA exclusive rights, Papyrus rebuilt the team, formed iRacing, and built the ultimate racing sim experience from Legends and Outlaws all the way to NASCAR, endurance racing, and F1 out of a game from 2003 (iRacing launched in 2008, but it's been continuously updated thanks to their membership service, and even the difference between when it launched and today is astounding). Even though nr2003 is just a NASCAR game, it's been kept alive by the modded community allowing for everything from the World of Outlaws all the way to F1 along with graphical updates and a ton more so it'd also be interesting to see how mod by the community for a game from 2003 compare to a officially licensed and supported sim.
DriveClub is such a great game. Sony should relaunch it. I think it just passed by most people’s radar. Probably badly marketed. It’s too greater game to have been killed off early by Sony.
DRIVECLUB WHAT MAYBE THE REAL REASON Thanks Wikipedia, now I think I understand. In a July 2019 interview with GTPlanet, a fan website dedicated to the Gran Turismo series (GT-7), Yamauchi stated that the next Gran Turismo title is in active development. Driveclub, along with its DLC packs and standalone expansions, was removed from the PlayStation Store on 29 August 2019. Was that conditional?
Driveclube is better than Forza Horizon 4 in terms of graphics. This game from 2014 can still be compared to games from 2018 and even 2020. Yes I know, many aspects are better in Forza Horizon 4, but Forza Horizon 4 graphics have been achieved by Driveclube 4 years before Forza Horizon 4. it was really Amazing, That's what makes Driveclub special, yes, there are many games that can beat Driveclub. But however Driveclub is like a game that someone brought from the future to play in the past, it's really amazing a game from 2014 could be like this.
Excuse. Driveclub is amazing on car models and rain effects ... BUT the game is "reduced" compared to the GT Sport. The GT Sport (like other GT games) has many cars, plus 330. Making 330 cars with a great level of detail requires a lot of memory. Driveclub has about 110 cars in its catalog (including dlc cars).
Image upscaling causes artifacts, same as in photography. GT is like an over processed raw file where DC is the equivalent of a jpeg straight out of camera. Neither are good graphically. However the lighting in GT is amazing and the weather in DC is insane.
Gran Turismo is THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR and you compare it with an Arcade Game??? 😂😂😂 pleeease, that's no comparation, GTS is the fucking BOSS!!! In physics or graphycs, innovations, asociations and themes, in everything!!!
I've come to realize now that graphics clearly are not everything and don't make the game. I was always defending Driveclub by how it looks but recently I had to be honest to myself. It's just not a fun game to play like GT is. After getting into some GT5 there is no question which game had kept me coming back for more. And GT5 to this day is still a spectacular looking game. So what I mean is, I now understand that a game that looks great but doesn't feel great to play will never compare to a game that doesn't quite look as good but feels far greater to play. Driveclubs weird arcade physics and controls was something so annoying and random....sometimes I'd almost rip my hair out trying to figure out why my super cars keep spinning out of control.

Finally a good content to watch on youtube today
Optimization is a game of give and take my brother.

the biggest difference between the 2 games is framerate, driveclub's framerate target is 30fps allowing it to focus on greater graphical fidelity at the sacrifice of the gameplay experience. while GT sport focused on 60fps at the drawback of graphical effects.

Am I the only one that bursts out laughing when I hear “ThrustMaster”? Am I? okay...
Lol driveclub is better 😂
I think Horizon 4 is still the best even considering it's an free roaming game.
Driveclub is a far more cinematic experience. It looks like you're playing a movie.
Driveclub rain effects & lighting still remains unmatched till date in 2024 … Damn that game was released 10 years ago 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
