- In 2013 Sony announced a new and revolutionary racing game to help usher in the PlayStation 4 called Driveclub. This is the story of the racer meant to ride the wave of a new and exciting generation of connected social games but ultimately crashed at the finish line, leading to its studio's collapse and changing how we look at connected games forever.

DriveClub is old enough that it could probably run at 120 FPS on PS5 with little issue.

Despite its troubled development and rough launch period, Driveclub still holds up. It really deserves a PS5 remaster or sequel.

I'm still playing Driveclub and Motorstorm.
To this day, Driveclub remains an absolute graphics benchmark. No other racing game has better looking weather effects.
It's sad that Sony will probably keep this IP in the fridge forever. If it only got remastered for PS5, it's criminal for this game to remain locked at 1080p and 30fps.

Sony HAS TO bring this back. Way to ahead of its time.
Imagine Sony is just this close to having "Forza like" game and Gran Turismo in one single platform,
and makes Xbox look undesireable, but oh well,
because they have no patient, and would rather chop down the entire studio than getting a big Win.
if this game was given 2 more years, developed and managed with care, it will overthrow Forza.
Sony had the chance to break through the Forza vs Gran Turismo stallmate, yet they blew it.
Xbox literally until this day relying on Forza Horizon as a Crutch, and could crumble easily without it.
One of my favourite racing games, really wish Evo had another chance with Motorstorm or a Driveclub sequel

A game that's all about the racing. Glad Evolution were able to bring their vision to life with as much passion as possible

True. Weather effects in racing games even GT, Forza, Assetto Corsa, Iracing, RFactor 2, F1, Grid, Dirt Rally are all super bland compared to what Driveclub was trying to do.
Not comparing more profounds aspects like driving physics that are totally different and way more complex in sim games but graphically we've stagnated significantly in the past 5-6 years in the racing genre, especially in lighting department (excluding ray-tracing).
you race against 11 other cars, you're locked to 30 fps, 1080p resolution. i'd rather sacrifice weather effects for higher resolution, higher fps, more cars on track.

@@pippomanonbaudo not for Project Cars, etc racing games. Project Cars on PC could have more than 20 cars on track. Le Mans has the most cars on track = 56. and it has unlocked fps. if your PC was powerful, it could get above 60 fps.
Drive Club is one of my all time fav racers.
Sonny should bring this back by any means necessary. In the current racing IP landscape it can stand out as much or more than it ever did... Such a sad loss, even all these years later.

When the lads come over to play on the racing wheel we still prefer Driveclub over GT7.
Would have been awesome to get a PS5 upgrade.
Drive club has amazing feel, it has that badass feel. GT is great racing game but driveclub is much cooler
All im asking for is just the DLC to be made accessible again somehow since asking for a complete return is impossible.

it wasn't the developers but Sony. and that's not all. Sony shut down the studio that made the game.

I'm amazed this video didn't even touch on Driveclub VR lol. That was my introduction to Driveclub, and was really hoping to know more about it in this video. It was a superb VR port, with full 360-degree cockpits, amazing sounds. And unlike GTSport, it let you race against 7 other AI cars.

Driveclub was the best racing game to come out on any console by miles. The game is still loved till today and spoken about in high regard. They made a big mistake in not continuing this platform on to PS5 as it was a success for gamers. PlayStation and Sony need to have a rethink and get that team back on as this was Special Game!

GVMERS already made this exact documentary, but far more in depth, with the same title....
Whitelight did another one even more in-depth. Blur also received a video like that and it's worth a watch.
This game is so much fun on Playstation 5. This game and Gran Turismo could have been the opponent to Forza and make both games better.

One of the best driveing games I’ve ever played
A Drive Club 2 with native 4K resolution at 120 fps would beat all other racing games for me.
This was and still is Sony biggest mistake ever this game is much better than those over saturated forza or gran turismo games
And not making a Days Gone 2.

Really one of my favourite racers. Setbacks aside, Evo def delivered an awesome game experience. Will always keep my fingers crossed for a sequel or a new IP in the same vein

Also The Crew made by Ubisoft was also focusing heavily on online multiplayer driving that focus on 4v4 racing. And in The Crew 2 they pretty much ditch the idea and focus on RPG farm and lotting system. Kinda weird how it still has 'The Crew' as the name but it doesnt relate to multiplayer racing
More accurate title would the Fall and Rise and Fall of Driveclub.
