I have both the Legion Go and the Ally and at the moment the Ally performs significantly better. Both have the same updated drivers. Cyberpunk benchmark gets 30FPS average at 1200p medium settings and the Ally at the same settings and performance settings gets 39FPS average at 1080p. Im sure the performance of the Go will improve over time but legion space has a long way to go and the button placement is infuriating to use. Start and select are on the bottom left side for some dumb reason.
The resolutiob is higher on the legion go.Just run it at 1080p and see if there is any difference. Also the legion go is running at 15 watts, is the ally running at 15 watts aswell?
I'm currently waiting on the next driver update, then will force the integer scaling so 800p will look good on this screen, this HI RES Screen is great but 1200 and 1600 is just too much for some games.
yeah the screen on the LGO is a blessing and a curse... indie games look stunning at high rez's but the AAA title can't run that way so you have to use 800p which doesn't look as good on a 8" screen (unlike the Steam Deck).
What if we adjust the max TDP or opt for a lower resolution, such as 800p? Some said that because the screen has double pixel density on a 1600p screen it will be less blurry.
The pixel density is ~344 ppi, which is in fact considerably higher than most laptop gaming displays, at this ppi count playing on 720p is ~half the native resolution, which would be equivalent to about 160 effective ppi, so you're essentially getting the same visual fidelity of a good gaming laptop display @1080p, most high end gaming laptops provide between 140-180ppi at best @ 1080p which the standard for this form factor. Provided you hold this thing at like arm length, if you hold it closer like a phone, you might notice some grain in the 720p and feel like 1600p would be better, but you'd be sacrificing fps considerably. Most games in fact are designed to run optimally at standard resolutions like 720p or 1080p. But overall, it's still quite good.
He must have it set at 20 watts. You can go higher to get better performance. This video doesn't show what settings he is using, so it's not very much useful.
@@Bag-Of-HammersHonestly thinking about returning it due to the lack of Performance but the screen is very sharp and detailed for everything else in game
Will a game stutter or not smooth when capped at 30 FPS? I feel dizzy when my PC limits a game to 30 FPS, but on console does not affect me. I'm curious if capping a handheld device at 30 FPS would have the same effect?
As someone who played with different monitors from 60-360hz i can say is 30fps is a nogo for me. If its not above steady 60 fps then its not a good experience. I had the aokzoe. Even at 40-55 fps it was stutterin very hard.
I'm confused at these performance numbers. I've seen in other videos, similar if not the same games running a bit smoother and higher fps. Seems the performance varies with the legion go I suppose. Though the temps looks insanely good compared to other handhelds!
The main problem I'm having with the GO is the screen size. It's too big! On the Ally, the smaller screens mean you can put a game in 720p and get great framerate and it still looks great, but the GO's screen is so big that if you drop the resolution, it looks like crap, but if you bump it up, it runs like crap.
actually the higher resolution means it looks better at 800p than 720p on the ally so once they add that it will look even better. Biggest pro is the screen
Yes 800p looks horrible right now. I don't know if it is the screen size or what. I run 800p on my Flow X13 (13.4" screen) and it doesn't look as bad, so it might be something else with the driver.
@Womens_Division it’s just an ROG Ally with detachable joysticks and higher resolution screen without VRR and LFRC and higher clocked ram. Lenovo had an opportunity to compete and possibly take the lead over Asus ROG Ally but fumbled with a screen that Z1 Extreme can’t really do that well. The battery isn’t much better than the Ally so no real advantage there. The Ally is a better choice
@@Patrick-tw7nr The legion go hasn’t crashed on me unlike the Ally I returned a while back. I’ll take a performance hit if it actually works, over The Ally crashing in windows, even after a full reinstall
@@ForsakenFenix knock on wood I haven’t had that happen to me at all since day one and I purchased my ROG Ally from BB a week after launch. I think Nintendo is the best in this regard. 720p is enough for handheld consoles. Both for battery performance and to get 60 fps in games.
