I really hope those who bullied you feel stupid now seeing you grow as a person and artist! 😊

At 42 I have decided to finally be "serious" about creating art. I've called myself an artist since high school yet I may draw our paint for a few month out of the year and then give up because I'm embarrassed by the quality of art I'm putting out. I don't want to do that anymore so I decided to start learning art through courses but it brings me no joy. I just don't know how to get better if I'm not doing a 100head challenge or fundamentals, etc. I love nature and would love to paint in semi realistic fashion. It's just discouraging when the finished product is medicore at best.

I think that is very true. I had a similar change in attitude. I started to say to myself that no matter what, this is going to be a lifelong pursuit. We never truly "arrive" in art and are constantly "self teaching" by reading books, watching videos, tutorials etc. We just keep growing, the more we learn the more we realise we don't know. Like most things, if we just allow ourselves time to grow, and keep showing up consistently, then we will improve. But we also need to make sure we are actually making art, and not just watching videos or reading books about art. Accept the level we are at, be humble about it and keep at it without being too hard on ourselves. Get used to showing our work to people and not being too precious about it, expecting everything to be perfect. God bless.

I,ve heard it said , “Failure is not the opposite of success , it,s one of the ingredients “

  • @jeanenelatique

Absolutely!!!! If we are interested we will gravitate to something and we will learn as we go. Then before we know it.....we are in that thing. It becomes a part of us and we can do it without thinking. Way to go and thanks for sharing this and encouraging people!❤❤❤

I needed this. Truly my soul needed this. I am 37 and even though that does not bother me, trying and failing at being on social media as an artist has up until this year. Sometimes I would get a lonely feeling when I would post something I was really proud of and get no response from community. So, this year I decided to stay off of social media and find myself as an artist again. You reminded me to not be so hard on myself while trying to learn new things and stretch myself both as an artist and as a person. Thank you for all that you do and who you are ❤

  • @FutileGrief

I am in awe of your strength, magic and love for your craft. I cannot express how important this is to see in this world

Hi Kim, a really beautifully made video which I found so relaxing and a lot of things seemed to resonate with me. I truly believe that whatever passion you have as a kid, regardless what anyone says especially your closest kin, it will grow within you until you're old enough to decide for yourself if this is something you really want to pursue or if it was just a passing faze. I too am self taught and I'm still learning ( as are we all ), but my one regret in life is during my teens I never really took art seriously enough to actually learn the craft of drawing & painting from a tutor. Instead I've stumbled along in my own way trying my best to soak up as much information as I can. But the older one gets, that option to go to college to study seems more & more daunting. It's taken me this long to realise that fine art is what I really want to learn. Mastering drawing is one thing but being able to paint what you've drawn is something which really excites me, and it never ceases to amaze me how by just adding the slightest bit of colour to a flat black & white sketch, how your sketch really comes alive...and that's what I want to achieve. Thank-you so much for posting this brilliant video and as I'm new to your channel I will be checking out your other videos and you will definitely be getting a sub from me. I hope your having a great weekend Kim, speak soon😊

  • @Jiminsboost

Thank you for this video and I can relate to being bullied in school too and sometimes I would have to tell myself that this person doesn’t define me what they say should not get to me, And sometimes it would but now that I am older I tell myself that I will not let a person that steps in my space that is negative stay in my life. But also being an artist helps me to accept and understand myself and also being forgiving and patient with myself.

  • @Miaulogic

I think there’s a huge focus now in the art market, that you need to learn fast, and the best way to do that is a rigid practice. But I agree with you that the moment I improve the most is when I’m having fun, focused in what I like, and that always lead to flexible practices.

  • @naomivandoren

Such a wonderful breath of fresh air. I especially love the quote you shared (master has failed more times than the beginner has tried). Thank you for your thoughts and insights and company while I work <3

  • @Practice_Kindness-1st

You are such a gentle soul. Thank you for giving a voice to so many of us...

  • @RubyRouge-zj8uw

It's been freeing to get in touch with my "inner compass" over time, and it's been a good reminder to not let internalized limitations stop you from experimenting and learning new things! 👍You are quickly developing a sweet artistic niche for yourself with how you overlay your lovely voice with words of wisdom and interspersed camera shots on peaceful domestic habits and natural scenery. 🥰

  • @SirJosephZhou

Thanks for talking to me as I work. I'm looking forward to the next calming Kim ASMR words of encouragement!

  • @jorgepacheco9845

Thanks. My art skill aren't up to the standards I would like them to be. This gave me a bit of hope when you said you are a self taught artist :)

  • @kanachiaki

Everything in this video is so aesthetically pleasing, from the art to the videography to the tea cups (I might have a slight obsession about cups in general ahah). Also, great advices. Thank you so much for sharing!!

  • @neasahayes6044

That's a really beautiful picture you are working on.
