- This video demonstrates a wide range of materials that can be used to make marks and images on polyester plates (aka pronto plates). Materials include ball point pens, gel pens, markers, waterproof drawing ink, toner washes made with water or alcohol, copier transfers - just about anything that is waterproof and will stick to the plate.
Great tutorial. Thank you so much...
Thank you Adele. I am a longtime lithographer but was not familiar with the Pronto plates. I took a two-day
class and I like it. I am particularly interested in the toner applications; that is what I love about stone litho
so much. I will follow your video on that right after this comment.
are the plates reusable? can you clean them after inking?
Hi there and thank you for your video. I want to ask, in time stamp 13:08 you hold the alcohol+toner mix container mix in your hand. You mention that it is made up of 1 tsp of toner + 2 ounces of isopropyl alcohol. Do you also add dish washing liquid when you make the toner+alcohol mix? if so how many drops? Ty
Thank you!, how goes the printing process.
Very interesting project! May i know where can i buy the polyester paper? Or any glossy surface paper can be used?
What is «Photo Flo»? Where to buy and what is the name for those polyester-plates in use? Chemical-free etch/washout? Uv-use?
Photo flo is used in darkroom photography- it breaks the surface tension of the water. Use a drop or two of dish soap instead. Makes it a day or two before using and then gently stir to remix
Will pencil crayons work?
I don’t know what you mean by pencil crayons. drawing materials must be impermeable to water and bond into the plate. If it sits on top of the plate it’ll probably lift off when you go to ink it. But try it, who knows.
Pencil crayons as in coloured pencils. I ask because I think you mentioned wax crayons as a possible medium. I'll have to give it a try.
sorry it took me so long to reply. I don't know what you mean by pencil crayons. Can you be more specific? Keep in mind that whatever you draw with, it needs tor have a permanent bond with the plate, if not, it will lift off of the plate when you are printing. Try it and if it can be scrubbed off with water, it probably won't work. Does this make sense?
