Thank you for the review. It’s been a few years. I love lithography- have never had the pronto plate experience. Very helpful.

The purpose of the fountain solution is to keep the plate from taking ink in the non-image areas. If you don’t have found solution, I would just add gum Arabic until the pH reaches 5.5 or lower. You could also try adding a little lemon juice to lower the pH along with the gum Arabic too much gum, Arabic my cause, water marks and streaking. 22:11

Adele, could you please send the formulas for the preparation of the different solutions that you have used.

If you are referring to the fountain solution (sponging water) used to dampen the plate, its helpful to keep it between 4.0-5.0 ph. The easiest way to determine this is to buy some ph test strips. They are cheap and easy to use. You can buy them on amazon. To lower the ph, add about an ounce of Gum Arabic to a quart or so of water and test it. If the ph is still too high, add a few drops of nitric acid if you have it, or citric acid - both will lower the ph. If its too high, add water. This will help reduce scumming and unwanted plate marks. If you meant something else let me know.

@@adelehenderson6858 Hello Adele! Thank you so much for your detailed answers! I'm up in British Columbia, Canada and trying to source fountain solution. Is fountain solution a must, or can I just get away with adding gum arabic to the water? Is there another solution I could use if fountain solution isn't an option for me?

Adele thank you for getting back to me. I plan on using pronto plates to do a couple of small editions. I understand that using a lithograph press would make the inking process easier and better. My question is are there other reasons why I should try to find time on a Litho press? It would seem to me that I should be able to set up my etching press pressure wise the same as a litho, I am I missing something. And while I have your attention can or do you have tutorials on preparing pronto plates from drawings or youtubes addresses that cover this. Thank you

@@emilemichelaparicio1798 I've used an etching press for small plates by mounting them on vinyl with magnetic backing, which does 2 things - it raises the plate up to about the same level as a copper or zinc, and its easy to keep the margins clean. Ink it off of the press and then transfer to the press for printing. If the press bed is steel it will make registration easier. You can use spray mount or double-sided film like 3M. Probably don't want blankets, maybe a piece of thin lexan or something stiff like an offset blanket. If its a large plate the vinyl might stretch. Litho press is much easier but you can make an etching press work.

Sorry for the delayed response. You can use an etching press but its not ideal. THe bed must be perfectly flat. TIghten the pressure as far as you can go. I only have had good results with pre-dampened paper.I use one blanket (pusher - tightly woven felt that doesn't stretch much). It helps to trap the paper under the press first, then lift and wrap it around the cylindar to hold the paper in place while you place your plate in position. When everything is lined up you can and run it through the press while holding the paper and blanket against the press cylinder as far as possible. If you print it like you would normally print an etching the paper will probably stretch and blur the ink.... HOpe this makes sense. sorry for the late reply
