The D was a capable long range fighter but was not as fast as early Me-262s, the P-51H was introduced too late but would have been competitive in a dive with a jet. Wait a sec... so after the refit every time before a spore-jump or going to Warp they reconnect/reattach (whatever) the nacelles with the secondary hull. Then why on earth are the nacelles separate from the hull, what is/was the point of them being detachable? It doesn't serve any purpose except being a (stupid) gimmick.

    • @dark_ops1651

      it makes them more maneuverable in flight. Also, i assume it has something to do with variable warp geometry.

    • @shawarden
      @shawarden 3 года назад +12

      @@dark_ops1651 If the nacelles have to attach for them to go to Warp, variable geometry is not it.
      Now COLLAPSIBLE nacelles would have been cool. Like, nanites or something (from that nanite planet Wesley created way back when he let 2 medical nanites play together and it almost ate the ship?) where the nacelles form out of the hull. I mean everyone would whine about them stealing that from Ironman but whatever. At least there'd be something vaguely plausible.
      Or maybe they could have just shrunk down like an accordion, then prior so warp they stretch out. Though that's pretty dumb too. In TNG era they had ships with tiny little warp nacelles (Defiant/Voyager) so, well, the massive long, vulnerable things that aren't even bloody attached properly are super dated.

      @@dark_ops1651 I kind of wonder how they would be more manouverable with detached nacelles. What makes it so different? All it seems to do is make the ship a little bit wider. Bit weird that future starfleet would want to refit a 900 year old design aswell. It would be kind of like us adding new tech, engines and stuff to a ship from the 1100s, or are they implying that Starfleet has been living in the dark ages since 2379. I mean, Star Trek Picard looks more outdated than TNG to be honest.

    • @Bellabong
      @Bellabong 3 года назад +1

      @@Dumlen Disco's original warp engine and Nacelle design would have conflicted with subspace emissions laws in place from 24th century onwards (yes they're a thing, from TNG). Yeah, but I always thought the 1979 onward movie Warp drive becoming a blueshift jump speed lines looked cartoonist.
      The warp drive now is just ILM Star Wars hyperdrive effects from the 80s. The JJ movies made it more like Babylon 5 meets Doctor Who.
      I just liked the subtlety of TOS since the writers were going to have lasers at warp, interactions with sublight vessels at warp, Warp maneuvers like supersonic bombers. The effects made it easier for the viewer to simply accept the mistakes in physics the writers still shove onto the screen.

      They already gave an answer in season 2 and then they did not use it for whatever reason. There was an Episode where it was stated that the spore drive damaged the mushroom Dimension. I thought that would be the answer, that they will stop using the spore drive after that and that they cannot use it to bring Voyager home.
      But no, Starfleet classified it, and the Discovery continued to use it all the time in the 32th century. So Starfleet had the technology all the time to bring Voyager home, or win the Dominion war much more easily, but still decided to not use the technology. Stupidest answer ever.
      Why didnt the writers of the Show did not stick with the solution that the spore drive is harmful to the mushroom network. I dont get it.

    *When they want to "jump" the code for all crew is "Black Alert". They use this advanced technology from the spores that are full in the universe, but all tribes, nations and entities don't know about it, except humans who know about it, including all the USS Discovery crew.*
    This technology was discovered during the USS Discovery. At that time all space ship used dilithium for warp speed. Dilithium is used by nearly all space ship to running with light speed.
    But the USS Discovery finally shot 950 years into the future. Even in the future, no one knows about this technology. In that future, sadly, The United Federation of Planets no longer exists, because there was a huge explosion known as "The Burn" which destroyed thousands of spaceships from all nations that used dilithium at the same time, all star ship on the galaxy were gone. Exploded. Vanish!
    But then dilithium was still sought after because it was the only warp tool that could be used and was very, very rare, and the price was very high. USS Discovery investigates what caused The Burn and finds a dilithium-rich planet that is much sought after in all galaxies.
    With the USS Discovery, the remnants of The United Federation of Planets in the future then offered dilithium to all nations and invited them to form The United Federation of Planets again.With the USS Discovery and this advance "Spore Jump" technology, The United Federation of Planets began to be re-formed, again.
