The college I attended, University of Memphis (Memphis State at the time) uses an alma mater song with words written in 1927. The music itself dates back to the early 1800s to an old British church song entitled "Lancashire", composed by Henry Smart, a hymn writer of the time. That same hymn goes by its modern name of "Lead on O King Eternal".
The tune, composed in 1857, was appropriated in 1870 or so by students at Cornell who changed the lyrics into what would become "Far Above Cayuga's Waters."

Mine does the the exact same thing your school does
This inspires Camp Lazlo Camp Kidney's alma matter.
Isn't that the same alma mater song used by North Carolina?
And Georgia, and Indiana, and Kansas, and Missouri.
But Cornell is the school that started it all.
