Fans did not appreciate such historic levels of many top level manufactures investing so much into a category which has so little exposure than F1.

I remembered watching Silverstone 2015 and telling me : "what a hell of season this upcoming one will be!"
Today, despite heavy battles in LMP2 and GT I really miss this period where F1 was boring as hell and WEC so interesting, 3 manufacturers (with the hope of a 4th with Nissan) battling hardly for the win (even if Toyota was out of the race title in 2015), Le Mans was THE race we were all waiting for and I just loved the design of the LMP cars

F1 even regulates the bore and stroke of the engine's, that's not freedom. These things r great! 2015 was the best example of this 👌

Group B Rallying, Group C Sports cars, F1 1980s Turbo era....and the LMP1-H Era - THE Golden ages of motorsport. Something about the fact that the worlds largest motor manufacturers threw absolutely EVERYTHING at this financially..budgets well in excess of £100m a year with a massively open rule book to create genuinely remarkable machines.
Plus the fact that it all happened in a fantastic ethos of sportsmanship within and between the teams.
Nothing this beautifully wonderfully pure and insanely fast could last long :( RIP LMP1-H. Thanks for the memories. The sad thing is it never really got the recognition it deserved at the time - at a time when F1 cars were stupidly slow, this was..in my view.. the genuine pinnacle of motorsport at the time anywhere in the world. And what a Pinnacle it was.

Can you imagine what seeing a Porsche 917 must have felt like in a world where the most popular road cars of the day was probably something like a Morris Minor?
      Extraordinary.
I think the LMP series is the last time that real "wow" factor has really been captured by the machinery itself...
Remember standing in the pit lane at Silverstone in 2016 and looking at the final iteration of the Black-livery Audi R18...it looked like a stealth fighter with wheels - people just gawping at the thing .

Besides that they quit the development of models like the R8 to save cash. Audi is just going to be another "techy" and "sporty" hybrid and EV oriented brand like everyone else in the future. People don't care about performance cars anymore. It all comes down to marketing and the way buyers want to be seen from society and the people around them. It's going to be just like with phones. Yea in F1 they are all crying at the slightest hint of body touch (and to be fair its warranted because the cars are so fragile). @@GekkonidaeKing I think prototype racecars are more efficient conceptually than f1 because of closed bodywork. If you had a prototype race car with same power to weight ratio, and grip levels as an f1 car, it woud have less drag, better fuel economy and be faster. Look the the 919 evo, it was 390lbs/177kg more than an f1 car with skinnier tires, (evo lost 81lbs from lmp1 spec 919, had about the same power output on average, and still had laptimes that would qualify it in an f1 race. A lot people forget that the scope of the evo project was not rebuild the car from the ground up free of regs, but to basically upgrade it. The open wheel cars have an inherent advantage too, the driver can enjoy the advantage of getting visual feedback from the tires locking up ect and maybe cooler brakes. However F1 brake rotors do get hotter despite having more ventilation holes than p1, because they can brake even harder without lock up thanks to having additional down force.

Not to forget Toyota, Peugeot, Glickenhaus, Bykolles would also be there with LMH spec cars in the top tier of WEC.

This is the era I wasn't able to witness. :< I only watched WEC this year when Porsche and Audi left the LMP1 scene. The recently concluded 24hr Le Mans GTEPro and AM was much more exciting than LMP1. I hope LMP1 has more competition. :

Wow. You came late to the party. 2014 to 2016 were - I honestly think this - the absolute zenith of all motorsport. At that point you had three of the worlds largest marques spending money like water on a competition with a virtually open rule book and creating cars which were going faster..and faster..and faster and pushing the envelope of what was technically possible. Then dieselgate killed it all. In a way, it' was probably good it ended when it did because they were getting *insanely* quick...and it was only a matter of time, in my view before someone got killed in one - despite how strong the chassis were. People ay "well an F1 car has a lower lap time" - yeah, but an F1 car doesn't drive at night, in rain, while passing anywhere near as much traffic of multi-class cars which don't jump out the way for blue flags....in THAT context these things were utterly utterly bonkers quick. We won't see anything like again I don't think.

U can see full races on RUclips still, I think. I started watching the 6hrs of Silverstone thinking I'd take a break for food and come back to it...I sat on the edge of my bed for 6hrs straight when the battle between Audi and Porsche began 45min in. It was awesome! lol

Just wish WEC gains the same sort of Fame that F1 commands and soon.....this sort of racing is way more interesting with big names rolling in their R&D on wheels to prove their might....F1 is more glam, simply put an F1 car cant have the speed and competitiveness of an endurane Racer.......WEC is REAL RACE CAR ENGINEERING ....and this is REAL COMPETITION......really hope WEC is held at the same pedestal as F1 and sooonn

The race starts and the first time they came up to the slower classes when Toyota, Porsche, and Audi were all fielding cars was just magical stuff. As good as it is to see 2024 WEC top class being stacked and healthy nothing will replace watching these space ships slicing through traffic while battling nose to tail.

I'm a big fan of WEC since the beginning, and even before. But when i'm watching this video, it makes me feel i didn't pay enough attention to these astonishing races in live. The cars were beautiful and we had epic battles. But... at this time, we used to see fight on each race, and we thought that it woudl be forever,
And now, the LMP1 is so poor that the TV Coverage shows GTEpro, everytime. And we, fans, are crying watching this video , remembering old good times. Sad.

As a Factory Porsche driver I love to watch these kind of battles because I imagine it is me driving the Porsche car against Jackie or Sconey in the Toyota. I guess Byrone (Brian) or Tyrone would be driving the Audi but they probably are not as good as us, no offence but it's kinda true. Also I love the livery of the Porsche but I wish they switched to a Gulf coloured livery like mine. My good mate and Porsche teamate Joey was at the Porsche Motorsport Factory recently and he spoke to his fellow aussie mate and Factory porsche driver Matt Campbell about it so we'll have to see what happens. Also I am from Brazil so I'm so happy that Felipe Nasr is joining the porschd hypercar team for next year. I hope I get to speak to him because he could help me improve. I know, maybe he can come and watch the final BFE race In Sao Paulo. That would be so COOL!

Can't wait for the rules to change, I like TOYOTA but they've had it too easy this season. Perhaps a win against actual competition rather than against themselves & their reliability would be even sweeter.
