    You've legitimately rekindled my desire to collect masks. Between that and heroranuva making me want to reread everything, y'all are doing the great beings work

    IMO Brutaka is the best set Bionicle ever created. His design is a pure work of art.

    If I had to guess, it could be that this lot came from siblings who got bought a copy of Brutaka each.

    It's so weird seeing a Bionicle with fingers 😄

    Is it weird that the red slizer torsos halves were the only thing in this haul that made me say "oh nice!"?

    I have a theory for why there's 2 Brutaka sets
    this was probably a kid back in around 06 and the first Brutaka had most of its parts missing or lost from a variety of reasons such as parents confiscated it/thrown away, pets chewed it up/ate them, or had siblings "borrow" some pieces (this brutaka could've been taken apart and would've been lose pieces in the kid's LEGO bin) and the kid somehow got another Brutaka set to have the whole set again at some point (Brutaka's MSRP was like 20 USD at the time)

    • @brickthumb
      @brickthumb  Год назад +1

      Good theory! A couple of the bits were chewed, so it makes sense. I tend to forget how cheap and 'replaceable' Bionicle sets used to be...

    The Knights Kingdom guy is Lord Vladek. He's the main villain and apparently the ancestor of Ogle from Alpha Team.
    Also, Axon's arms being loose seems to just be an issue with the model's design. He's got those big chunky arms with big chunky hands, there's a lot of weight on those joints.

    The 2005 waves were the only year I had all of the non-system sets from (though I wish back then I got spares of the bigger builds to have a Shadowed One). I kinda wish I had put that effort into 2006 instead though. It has a lot of great builds. Also 2008.

    The Knights' Kingdom II figure is the first version of "Vladek" (8774 or 8786) from July 2004. Also in the lot of parts, I spotted the head, hip piece and one of the arms and lower legs from a Vahki (8619, but I don't know if more of it was there or not. I had most of the other sets you reassembled, except Axonn, and Hakann (the red Piraka) was the only one of them I obtained during its year of release. Boggarak (8743) I obtained from a bookstore in April 2006, as leftover stock from the year before, and Brutaka (8734) I obtained as a birthday gift in 2007. There also appeared to be parts of the Glatorian Legend; Ackar (8985), which I obtained during Christmas of '09, but I'm also not sure how much of him was in it.

      Also spotted the Vahki and Glatorian but couldn't name 'em. Wonder how many of the parts were even there?

    Axonn, Brutaka, but especially Vezon & Fenrakk are some of my favorite large Bionicle sets (what's the word Lego used for them? Titans?), ever. Their combo model is insanely impressive as well. I love how they use standard pieces people know in so different, so larger, ways: like Axonn's hands are Metru Nui Matoran arms!! Wish I had the space (and money!) to display them all.

    I always had a problem with Stars Tahu for two reasons. The first reason was due to the fact that there was now a forth version of one of the original mata figures, so that would mean four versions of the same Toa on my shelf. The second reason I had a problem with the stars version though is it brought in another Power Rangers trope into the Bionicle franchise, that of course being Red Ranger (or in this case Red Toa) favoritism, what with him getting new gold armor and a new gold mask which skyrocketed his powers beyond that of his fellow Toa brothers and sister, unlike the past transformations which were given to all members of the team.
    Oh, and I forgot there was a third reason I had a problem with it as well, because thanks to this forth version of Tahu having his old Mata mask, it left the impression that Tahu somehow got his Nuva transformation reversed and lost his adaptive armor, meanwhile the rest of his team retained their Nuva transformations along with their adaptive armor. And while yes I know it has to do with the mask of life turning him back into his mata form, but I just wish that they hadn't singled Tahu out during the final battle and instead transformed the entire team back to their old selves so that they could end the series with the old toa team standing together as one one last time.

    Short story: In 2019, I went to a local convention. I wasn't looking for bionicle, but I saw a complete Toa Lhikan + Kikanalo Beast (complete used with box and instructions, great condition). I've never seen the set, but I recognized the style of bionicle from my childhood. For context I "grew out of" bionicle just after the Toa Inika. Anyway they wanted 70, I offered 60 and they accepted. I washed the pieces, rebuilt it using the original instructions, and boom my love for bionicle had returned :) It was actually the last time I've seen any bionicle for sale in my province. I've tried hunting the same Con, local marketplaces, etc, pretty actively since 2019 and haven't found anything yet.

    • @brickthumb
      @brickthumb  Год назад +1

      Nice find! Lhikan's an amazing figure, I love the red, gold and black. Keep hunting, Bionicle sets seem to turn up when you least expect them. I''m sure you'll find more!

    Nice! The red slizer body parts are definitely a good bonus 😊
    Question: I know that the Star Hau is smaller than the 2001 one, but I wonder... Can the Star Hau fit on a 2001 Toa head? I'd love to get a golden Hau, and I wouldn't mind to get a smaller one (presumably much cheaper!)
