Definitely want to see more tonks! Suggest you weight down the hulls with stones, bits of metal or old coins - they’ll sit so much better on the table and won’t blow away when you breathe on them too heavily.
The “medical supplies” are from Plasmapheresis kits. They’re all sterilized when they’re made and the bits you got are the end caps for the “harness” and needles. All get pulled off and tossed before any blood or anything happens so they’re clean. I use them a bunch in my own builds! Nice to see some in your collection, Bill! Can’t wait to see what else you make with them!
I love the Metal Slug styling, and though I haven't tried Tonks, I did buy the rules for "What a Tanker" from Too Fat Lardies. To be fair I haven't played that either, but I'd be much more likely to play it with fun scratch-built tanks and terrain, rather than scale models of French villages and bocages (the Lardies are all about the historical). Edit: These tonks from Bill remind me strongly of the Grot Tank models that Forgeworld released a decade back. So much character, and for less than a kidney per squadron by building it yourself! Takes me back really, when I started wargaming we were using rules from magazines (or modified, or totally our own design), and we'd be using books for hills and soda cans for buildings etc. P.S. Gaslands is freaking great!
Love the amazing lore that you come up with for this setting, I find the image of these two tanks roaming around the wasteland not being able to destroy each other absolutely hilarious. All of your tanks and/or tonks give me an itch to get my bitsbox out and make one myself 👍
@@halfcrafted and by friend you mean bitter enemy bent on each other's destruction. The very best kind of friends. You never have to guess what they are thinking.
Idea of safety mechanism on airplane turrets is so simple, funny and ingenious. Both tonks have strong Bill vibe as the rest of your stuff. I love it. And I'd love to see more moving parts in the future if it is possible of course. Cheers!
They look great! Kinda like 40k grot tanks where you can really have a bit of fun building something! The safety feature idea is brilliant! Would love to see what else you can come up with. Have fun 🛠️
Bill’s story about the never ending tank-brother battle reminds of this short film called “Cannon Fodder” which is part of a larger film called “Memories”. I highly recommend Bill (or anyone!) check it out if you want to see a short film about the futility of war with great world building, music, and art. The color palette also reminds me of Respite and Bill’s art in general!
Using the wheel arches from the toy car to form the transmission on the inside of tracks on Tonk #1 is a great idea. I love Bill's crazy running gear on his tracked builds. I find Bill's passion infectious. The Turrets' IFF fluff is a cracking bit of lore.
This video popping up is almost too perfect. I've been working on scratch bashing a grot tank or two for warhammer. So not only was the video great inspiration I also found a new game to try out!
The Ruster tank looks like it could have been built by Orcs and perhaps just like Orcs, if enough Rusters believe that it will work then it does! Fantastic video as always Bill. Hope you have a great time in the land of corn walls......
Excellent sketchbook talk. I agree 100% and I love that you show the mistakes, that it isn't perfect, and it's okay to water color your pages and make it all bleed around and look wonky.
been watching you for some years now.......silly HA with memory loss.....sigh.....you enable me to have building goals and very enjoyable.....thank you Sir.....
i've been watching your videos since a bit of time now and i just wanna say, i'm loving each new one of them, absolutely adore your humor, your builds, your style as well as the lore you're writing and adding on which each vids!!!
very ghibli, I love it! I used to spend time drawing on graphing paper during free periods in school. Me and my friends sometimes would use the grid to draw out military bases and vehicles, planning on playing wargames, but never quite getting to playing because planning and drawing was so much fun. Maybe if he had tonks, we could have actually played
"...Get yer Tonks out for the boys" Love these, so inspirational. I've not crafted for ages but I think this is just what I needed to watch to get back into it, thank you.
I've never seen this channel before, 30 seconds in i was recommending it to someone else, 25 minutes in and my whole day has improved drastically. I will probably watch this again later, this is amazing
I for one am very proud of you Bill, all jokes aside, very few crafts channels I watch make me want to pick stuff up and build something as often as you do.
I haven't watched all your videos yet, so maybe you've done some of these, but your Canon is inspiring and I have a couple ideas for builds: 1. A Sand Skiff, like on Tattoine 2. A Ornithopter, like on Dune 3. A junk trawler-- a tracked vehicle with a big open container filled with junk, maybe an arm reaching out to grab things 4. A sand sled build with a team of creatures pulling it, like a team of sled dogs, but for sand. Maybe bigger creatures, bigger sled, and some sort of team running it. 5. A billboard for the Town of Respite welcoming ships to land or travellers to shop at the town. Lots of lights and bold lettering.
Lovely, I also enjoy creating small tanks, however not with that amount of lore, definitively it brings the desings into a narrative. A very common solution used in many toy tanks to rotate the turret, is having the base with a hole, and the turret with a centered plastic stick of same diameter than the hole, so the turret stick in place but also can be rotated :D
Hello mate, I was impressed by your work, mostly because scratchbuilding is hard. You showed the comps and I was like "He already knows what everything will look like when finished to use that lot" and I was right. So I have nothing to pass onto you, apart from this, I have had cause to make a plastic thing spin within another plastic thing, like on your turret. I saw that you split and melted back and at the end seemed a bit unhappy while being happy with that aspect of the build. It's the melting part that takes time to get right, sometimes if you can have a shield behind the melted lip, not only does that stop any melted plastic catching on the other part, but it also leaves a gap. I actually do this a lot with turrets, like on battleship builds, so they can't fall out if it's a pond or bath build (make the plugs underneath from milliput). having a very slight gap helps with free circulation of the turret or wheel. Sometimes I've just put a blade down the gap to get rid of any excess lip, but a shield does away with all that faff, if you can fashion one to use.
ooh I love TONKS! I think i might actually play Tonks it looks really fun and simple to get into, and I'm just starting out with all this kitbashing and the like so building a simple lil tonk will be the perfect start! Thanks Bill! :3
The second turret, you could make a washer by making a doughnut shape out of card and cutting half of it so it can be slid in. That way the rotation is smoother.
There is two games called battalion wars and battalion wars 2, they are cartoony and charming and have cute tanks, well, you should look up the "battle stations" in that game, and maybe try something similar to it!!!
I did end up in this video by luck, but man.... This is awesome to see. I love how its possible to make stuff from random stuff. As someone who works with games, in a 3D world, there's this technique that I don't dominate at all which is called: kitbashing. (Came from modeling, I know, but its used for 3D as well) And it requires risk. Decisions have to be made as it goes, because its not based on something real, mostly. Like an exact copy of something. I do have respect and admiration for people who have that talent of transform things into cool totally other things. Just respect!
Have a look at some real tanks of the inter-war period - some of those were batshit crazy, but cool as well. The Russian T-28 and T35, for example - mobile fortresses, or land warships. The French Char B, another land battleship. Also, the little Renault FT-17. The British 'TOG' I and II prototypes; Huge, ungainly, outdated, but ridiculously cool. There really was an AFV (Armoured Fighting Vehicle), that looked like it could have been made from scrap, by Rusters - the 'Bob Semple Tank' from New Zealand. So shonky, it's actually rather cool.
Thank you for helping me find my newest game to enjoy. My friends and I love it! Scratch building some tanks this week to probably start campaigns. Thanks again, and keep up the great content! 👏👏

They're also the exact same caps used on the disposable needles for some insulin pens!
The round almost clear things with texture I mean
I like that rusters managed to make something closely resembling real renault r35
I love the world you’re building here, it’s developing into such a fascinating place full of colourful characters and strange events
Thanks Jasmine
I like these little guys. The sizing seems like it could also scale well with Gaslands.
