Saw it opening night. Music was great! Story was fairly simple but the movie moved through it all quickly, which I appreciated.
To everyone saying it was bad… idk what to tell you, there wasn’t anything to hate about this movie. Not everything can be Zootopia or Encanto.
It's the utter generic-ness that makes people angry since Disney has the resources to be better than this.
Not everything can be Zootopia, but it can be more interesting from such talented animators, actors, etc. It takes good writers, directors, and other production people who deal with forming the central concepts and story beats of the film to make it interesting and enjoyable to watch. If those are boring, the movie is boring.
Good. I for one can enjoy a simple story, considering how out of this year's movies I ended up loving The Super Mario Bros. Movie much more than Across The Spiderverse 😁 I'm going to see Wish this weekend and despite all the bad reviews I'm still hopeful and excited!

@@estherhinds6314 That's good. I saw it today and while it's not quite one of my favorite Disney movies, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Every song, the storybook illustration style (I think they could have pushed it even more on the characters though!), the references to other Disney movies and inspiration from even the older ones, the new classic villain with a bit of a modern twist, I really liked and appreciated all of it. I think the story and the characters could have used a little more development and some of the jokes could have been funnier, but honestly? Looking at it and old Disney movies as objectively as I can, I think Wish isn't on a lower level than like half of them. I think people nowadays just have huge expectations.
Personally, I think it's fine if someone ended up not enjoying Wish as long as they acknowledge that movies are subjective (people who immediately start to bully those who enjoyed it are pretty annoying). What actually bothers me is how people accuse the creators of Wish of using AI and/or just making the movie a huge advertisement and not putting any heart into it. It's so disrespectful. Some people don't realize how passionate about animation, art and storytelling those who work in this industry have to be. Sure, it's a business so deadlines and profit are important, but that doesn't mean that the creators are lazy or don't care about their work.

This is in no way biased.
Most people hating on the movie 1. Hasn’t even watched it and is going off of others opinions only and 2. Forget that kids are Disney’s target audience and always has been, so let the kids have fun- clearly the ones who are against it the most are people who were kids during an iconic moment in Disneys past so ofc you’re going to critique it, things will change including animation and storytelling. I can guarantee you that in the future modern kids will harshly criticize new animation styles stating how when they were kids movies were so much better and how Disney isn’t living up to their expectations.. think about it
while there are always people who are overly biased based on their nostalgia, there's nothing wrong with critiquing a movie meant for any audience, especially because disney inherently does try to appeal to everyone. you can have fun and still realize that maybe the movie could've been better. disney has always has highs and lows- people didn't like chicken little when it came out, not because it was different, but because the aesthetic and story didn't live up to other more ambitious movies they had put out at the time. we know they can be great, so we want to push them to do better :)
“You’re dead if you aim only for kids.” Famous Walt Disney quote. He was all about making things that were enjoyable for people of all ages. Making things strictly for kids almost always means underestimating their capacity to understand complexities and purposefully dumbing things down. I WANTED to like Wish, i was rooting for it to succeed, I went in extremely hopeful, and I was let down not because it was simple (simple can be good), but because it was not made with enough effort because ‘eh, little kids will like it, so who cares’. Not enough effort put into making unique or compelling characters, not enough effort put into making a story that was sincerely heartfelt or even made sense. Half measures because ‘it’s for kids’ is insulting to the entire audience, including the kids. Disney can do better than this. Encanto never underestimated its audience or talked down, which is part of why it was so beloved by kids AND adults.

Funny, I never see them complaining that DreamWorks doesn't make 2D films like Prince of Egypt or El Dorado anymore. And what about Illumination; aside from Mario they've been making only films that are split down the middle with audiences.

But none of what you said is true. The majority of the supporters in these comments are the ones who clearly state they haven't seen the movie yet. Also, nobody is dissing the animation style. They're dissing the story line. The story is a girl wanting something and then getting what she wants when normally the stories have more meaning to them with them being about a character wanting something and changing and not getting exactly what they want but what they truly need as a developing character in the story. That's the issue. It's cute, but it lacks anything meaningful. That's the issue. Kids might love it because it's going to catch their attention with the animation style and the characters, but I'd want kids to be learning something meaningful from what they watch so they're not only thinking about getting what they want. I mean have you met kids who watch RUclips and play fortnite all the time instead of watching shows and movies? They have no respect for anyone and think they have to get everything they want. Trust me, I know multiple personally. To me, it's not an issue of whether the movie is good or not. It's an issue of the movie is not meaningful. It's honestly quite disappointing when you expect to watch a Disney movie. Disney movies have always had amazing character development and stories. The parts where the characters develop and realize what they need instead of what they want is the parts we like to see. A movie with no character development is like a flat soda. Some might like it enough while others are going to hate it. But it's well-known even in my highschool English class that all good movies have that turning point in the story where the character realizes what they need instead of what they want. We even had to break down movies and find those things. This isn't storytelling changing. It's dropping the key aspects that make a great movie to make it easier. There's no worth in a movie with no good meaning. With the way the story goes the main character seems just as much a villain as the villain. She wants one thing, she does whatever she can for that one thing, and she gets that one thing. You would think the story would change and point out how this one thing could cause problems and how it's not always so great to get what you want. This movie is flat. The storyline is flat. There's no character development so the characters are flat. And that's why people hate the movie so much. There are plenty of poorly rated movies that people like, but it's the character development and the main theme that make a movie a well-loved and highly rated movie. I mean think about it. All the other Disney movies that were rated high had the character discovering what they need instead of what they want and there was a clear underlying meaning. Wreck-It-Ralph. Big Hero 6. Frozen. Moana. Turning Red. All of them.

The fact that the main protagonist (Asha) is the same character in the end of the film as she was in the beginning is a failure in quality storytelling. Additionally, she had no Lowest Moment scene (ex. Beast when he had to send Belle away and welcomed the hunters to kill him, Moana abandoning her quest, Aladdin being revealed to be a liar and vowing to set things right, Mulan at the small camp after she was found out by the other soldiers, etc.). Every well written character must have a moment when they feel defeated by rise to the challenge; something the main protagonist (Asha) does not.
However, you did state that the main protagonist (Asha) acted like a villain. How so? Your'e the only one who's stated this that has presented themselves as someone actually knowledgeable of storytelling, so I'm curious as to how you found the main protagonist (Asha) to be acting like a villain.

I have to respectfully disagree with the critics’ score because I genuinely and personally loved the movie despite the flaws it does have, I want to see more diverse and creative storytelling while stopping certain tropes from being repetitive and keeping the 2D elements in-between but otherwise, it’s a step in the right direction!!!

Wish is so awesome and grandiose! The return of 2D and magic! ❤️ They worked so hard on it! It's incredible! It has its own style (like the firsts Disney) which is so beautiful, the 2D/3D mix, the format which is the same as Sleeping Beauty, and watercolor painting style, which can make think of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, I love! 😍 The characters are all so cool, Asha and her friends (representing the 7 dwarves), I love Star because they gave him Mickey's personality and facial expressions! 😍 The songs are so good, and the music is super powerful, certain musical notes remind me of the first Disney, it's so cool! The story is so beautiful, and super worked, with all the additional references, making wishes meant so much to Walt Disney! Wish is perfect! For the 100th anniversary it is perfect! ❤️🎉 So many emotions! He has such positive energy, it feels good! So moving, catchy and funny! The mix of old and new is incredible! An original story full of magic and the return of 2D! It's a true love letter to Disney movies but also to the history of Disney and Disney fans! ❤️ When they say in behind the scenes "a movie that's giving this love letter to walt" is so true! 😭 This is such a beautiful love letter! 🥰 Thank you Disneyanimation this is what we want to see and feel! Pure magic! It's Disney like this that we want to see! ❤️

saw it earlier on and invited my mum to see it with me at the cinema. We both enjoyed watching wish. I think the star is adorable and it is a really nice story. Loved the songs and animation style of the film.

I really love the movie of Disney’s wish it was so unforgettable that I would definitely want to see it again it’s always so good to dream bigger and believe in the magic of Disney because trust me I loved Disney ever since I was born and to this day I still feel like a kid and it’s so spectacular to make a wish that will come true and when you wish upon a star it will be granted to you just keep on wishing and thanks to you Disney animation you really made this film the best of all time it’s truly spectacular and happy 100th anniversary keep dreaming and see ya real soon!

@@disneyfan02 I’m not very good at explaining it but basically, mostly in the music, they were copying techniques used in past movies that are really popular without really knowing what it was that made those movies popular. And the main person writing the music (I forgot her name) but she’s a pop song writer while most of the greatest Disney musicals were written with broadway style music. (I also want to add that she was only given 3 weeks to write the songs with minimal context of the movie.) There was also no real conflict, the villain was easily defeated and Asha got what she wanted with no character development. It’s almost like the creators were more focused on making money than actually trying to make a good movie. It’s ok that you like the movie and I’m not saying that’s wrong, I just think it could’ve been made better.
I definitely left out some key points so just if you’re interested you could watch a video or something that goes more in depth. But that was my point of view of the movie.
I love Wish so much this movie is the best ever the Centennial movie event!

I loved the movie, but it could have been better. I even took two movie posters with me when I went to see it a second time with my mom LOL.
I don't really care about other people's criticisms of the film, but Disney should take the well-founded points into account to improve.
The reason people dislike wish is because they scrapped the storyboards.

honestly, wait 20-30 years see if this film stands the test of time. Just like Ironman 1 doesn’t hold up but Tangled does.
I wanted to love this movie but just couldn't. At best, Wish is decent when it could have been so much more than that, especially for the 100 years celebration of Disney. Ariana's Asha and Pine's King Magnifico both give strong performances and stand out amongst the rest of the cast. Star is adorable and Valentino's really cute too. Music is good for the most part and the animation is really pretty at times. There's definitely some enjoyable moments but unfortunately the film lacks a memorable story. I also found it to be incredibly dull at times. Gonna have to give Wish a 6/10. Not Disney's best effort but also nowhere near their worst.
I think the problem with me is that my expectations of Disney's (and DreamWorks) animated movies are so damn high... Wish fell below it so it was very meh to me.
Maybe if it was made by any other studio, I'd have ranked it higher. Idk I just expect better from Disney and more so because they're supposed to be Celebrating their 100th year.

I liked it, but I won't lie, the idea is good but the execution is a waste of it. Magnífico's song is pretty dull and could have been much better visually! What offends me the most is how they ended up making a crude twist on Magnífico's character without giving a credible reason, they didn't even do it, they just wanted to add a villain.
And let's not talk about the ending because it is the worst part of the film, the best in my opinion was the fifteen minutes of it.
Aside from that, I love how they say it's doing super well at the box office when it's a lie, even more so in critics. It's like, "Oh, Disney, you did a good job," and they're respond themselves with: "I know."
