    Even the genie from Aladdin had rules:
    - No killing
    - No resurrecting the dead
    - No making someone fall in love with anybody else.
    Not all wishes should be granted. It's not necessary bad that person decides what should and should not be granted.

    • @MartenFerret
      @MartenFerret 6 месяцев назад +11

      If you know you get to make a wish and maybe have it granted when you turn 18, BUT after making your wish you'll forget what you wished for ...then all you have to do is write down your wish before you make it. Then, after Magnifico magics away your memory, you just refer to your note to see what you wished for.
      I like the base concept of this, but it is EASILY thwarted.

Chris is a great actor, make no mistake, but I get a jarring disconnect when I see Magnifico speak with Chris Pine's voice, which really breaks the immersion. The way Magnifico looks, you almost expect someone with a more refined tone and a mature timbre.

    My question is, did Magnifico become the Magic Mirror from Snow White? Does that make all of obvious dwarf characters become the ones from Snow White? Does the queen become the evil queen of snow white? The movie seems to point towards the answer being yes, as Magnifico is given all the imagery of the magic mirror, he stays in the mirror, and most of the environment is based around Snow White. So what happened? Is this an alternate Snow White universe, or is this some type of ancestor story?

      And does Asha became the fairy godmother of Cinderella?

    • @NorthStar8211
      @NorthStar8211 6 месяцев назад +3

      It is open to interpretation but there is no such thing as canon here. Both magic mirror and fairy godmother supposed origin stories are more likely just Easter eggs/references to other Disney movies as Wish is full of these and not expected to be viewed as fact. Asha looks nothing like the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella and she is not the same character as her, just as she is not the same character as the fairy from Pinocchio or the Three Fairies from Sleeping Beauty. I just came back from the TV tropes page and was surprised to see how frequently whoever compiled the list mentions that it is implied that Magnifico became the entity in the Magic Mirror, especially considered that the mirror in Wish looks nothing like the mirror in Snow White (it is much smaller for a start, though it was about the same size as in Descendants). Again, it is another Easter egg. Besides, there have already been other origin stories for the Magic Mirror, including Disney novels such as Mirror Mirror (a Twisted Tale) and Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen, none of which are compatible with each other or with the original animated movie. They all exist in their own parallel universes/continuities which is why characters can exist in different versions in their movies and canonical sequels and Tv series or other media and non-canon comics, video games such as Kingdom Hearts and shows or spin offs such as Once Upon a Time or Descendants. The common consensus when it comes to the Magic Mirror (with the occasional exception) is that it is a mystical object in which a dark spirit is enslaved. It does not have to be Magnifico. Not everything needs an origin story; it takes away the mystery and magic behind it. Magic items have existed in fairy tales for centuries and none of them requires an explanation on how it came to be. Even the cute little star does not necessarily have to be the same star in Pinocchio and other Disney movies. In the continuity of Wish maybe but not in the actual separate universes of those movies. This is not an attack on Wish by the way; I absolutely loved the movie but although I do love crossovers such as House or Mouse and Roger Rabbit with the animated actors concept, retconning movies like that ruins the magic of those films and they should be left alone in my opinion. Everything seen in Wish is in an alternate continuity and should not be established as fact. It reminds me of fan theories such as the Headless Horseman being Brom in disguise, until Once Upon a Studio proved that they are two separate characters as the cartoon always intended.

    • @hellojerome
      @hellojerome 6 месяцев назад +1

      I kind of disagree with your comment in the sense that, to me, this is pretty much the real story of the birth of the spirit of the magic mirror, it was Magnifico, it looks like him. I assume that centuries later, the Queen in Snow White and The Seven D. will summon this spirit in her Magic Mirror, and Magnifico appears in her mirror... This is what makes Wish interesting to me.

    If one remembers Pinocchio well enough, the Blue Fairy answers to Geppeto's wish for Pinocchio to be a real boy, having seen him as deserving for it because he gave a lot of happiness to others, then brought Pinocchio to life, but didn’t automatically make him a real boy. Pinocchio still had had to earn the wish by proving himself brave, truthful, and unselfish.
    That's what being a fairy godmother is really all about. Not granting wishes, but bringing comfort, guidance, and an extra push.

    Can somebody explain the concept behind this movie to me?
    I mean the wishes, why are the so important to be kept by Magnifico in the first place. He clearly did not use them as power as he "learned" he could do that only after he is already possed by the evil book.
    Why did he take out the book in the fist place? There was no real threat to him. It just feels so forced like, plot needs to move forward so things need to happen.
    Why did he have an "evil layer underground" when it was established before that he never used the buck and only keeps it for unspecified reasons (which is very stupid btw if it has a curse on it that can not be broken)
    The said the curse can't be broken but when he was inside the mirror it seams like he was "normal" again, so wtf movie

      I don't think anyone can answer your very logical questions because this entire movie has no logic. The king lost his entire family so he became very powerful and instead of using that power for bad he actually used it to create a safe heaven for anyone who wants to live there. He is kind, he loves his people, he adored his wife and he granted the wishes that were good for the community because hello, not all wishes should be granted. The king had a great character and they flushed it all down the drain for no good reason at all. Yes it was very rushed, making him a villain so suddenly just so that they could make the women the heroes 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ there are so many heroic women on Disney already that these ones were completely unnecessary. Such a disappointing movie!!

This is just a parallel universe and these are injoke references. The same applies to the magic mirror and the fairy godmother (Magnifico is not the actual spirit in the mirror of the movie Snow White and Asha is not Cinderella's fairy godmother in the Cinderella animated movie, if not for any other reason then just for the obvious fact that the fairy god mother is caucasean).

    I actually enjoyed the movie, as it had some pretty smart moments that somewhat answered some of the questions in the Disney universe. The Star character in my opinion really did feel like the personified manifestation of good magic, almost like an origin story, and the villain's magic almost felt like an origin story for dark magic like maleficent. It's very on brand for the villain to fall under the golden age character having a primary sin, this case pride.
    The downside is, despite the movie itself being smart they didn't do the best job conveying what they wanted to. That, and the music sounded like it was written by a girl band manager. They should have done a better job of making the music fit in to the Disney mythos.

    • @NorthStar8211
      @NorthStar8211 6 месяцев назад +1

      The movie is not necessarily anti-religion unless you interpret it as such (art can be interpreted in different ways and sometimes ways that the creators never intended, depending on point of view). Some view it as anti-religious in the sense that Magnifico represents God and Asha, the young idealist, encourages people not to believe in him blindly and not to give them their wishes/prayers when they can try helping each other instead based on humanistic values. Others see the exact opposite eg Magnifico is the human ruler in a totalitarian regime, who prevents people from seeking guidance from religion and from a deity in the sky so that he can fully control them and have exclusive power over them, which is not a surpise as people in far right and far left dictatorships or oppressive empires often sought freedom through faith in a god. Even if the movie was meant to be to some extent anti religious as far as Abrahamic religions are concerned (which I personally rather doubt), it brings in other spiritual concepts so it is most certainly not the most anti religious movie ever. And no, the author of the previous comment did not spread Magnifico's word at all as Magnifico did more or less what the villainess did in Neverending Story 2: taking away memories/wishes exactly so people forget about their dreams (at least in the movie version; the book Neverending Story is slightly different). There is no reason to be rude. The comment might be regarded as a bit preachy but it is an opinion and everyone is free to say it without others posting offensive responses for no good reason at all. There are many polite ways to disagree.

      @@NorthStar8211Contrary to what the critics think, Wish actually has certain elements of the story of the nativity of Christ because:
      King Magnifico actually represents King Herod in terms of his behaviour and motives.
      Asha is what some would call as the self-fulfilling messianic figure due to wanting to inspire others to help each other in a new age. She even suffered in what Disney came very close to portraying a mature religious allusion: The Passion Of Christ. This is evident when Simon becomes the Judas Iscariot of Asha's circle of friends though he temporarily became that way by Magnifico's torture and Asha and Star were literally 'crucified' by King Magnifico in front of Rosas' populace which he did the same to afterwards at the movie's darkest hour.
      Star actually has elements of the Star of Bethlehem and the angel Gabriel as Star actually guides Asha in her journey.
      Valentino actually represents the shepherds whom the angel guided to the manger.
      Surprisingly, Queen Amaya represents the Magi due to both characters having turned against King Magnifico and King Herod respectively.

      @@marcuscheng9398 That's a very beautiful intepretation. Probably not what the creators of the movie had in mind when they were making it but it is certainly a nice way of looking at it. Plus, Disney has depicted the Star of Bethlehem in animated form at least once, for example in the Don Bluth directed cartoon The Small One which has a Nativity twist so that Star from Wish can stand in for the Bethlehem Star too. Plus, in some countries such as Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Japan, the Disney song "When You Wish Upon a Star" has, in fact, become a Christmas song referring to the star of Bethlehem so it all fits.

      Even the: "this person doesn't deserve to have this wish granted" argument is completely valid.
      I simply don't see any way the writers could potentially twist the system into the antagonist being evil, he didn't know about using captured wishes as power before this either.

It wasn't even a matter of granting ALL the wishes, he only doled out one wish per year when there hundreds of them that were fairly harmless. One of the reasons why he didn't grant a wish was because he was afraid that a 100-year old man could use his wish to inspire people through music to "possibly" foment a revolt. With that kind of rationale, it was easy to say that just about any wish is "too dangerous to grant". It was even more insidious that the person is also required to forget what they wished for, so they couldn't even work towards it if it wasn't granted. Magnifico was basically controlling his people by taking their dreams and wishes, locking them up, and having them forget about them. Yes, he initially had their consent, but he became threatened when the people started asking him about his methods. He turned to the evil magic book as a way to regain his authority, and that choice made him evil.

    YOU MISSED THE BIGGEST EASTER EGG! 👇🏼
    - You need to pause the movie right at the moment where King Magnifico gets trapped inside the glass of his staff. You will see that for a split second frame Magnifico's face actually turns into of the face of the Magic Mirror from 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.
    - Right before this happens Magnifico even says "Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who is the handsomest of all?" - This is foreshadowing that Magnifico will actually become the slave in the Magic Mirror from 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.
    - We also need to mention that the Queen requests that the shard of mirror containing Magnifico should be put on the wall in the dungeon.
    - Disney's Wish is directly connected to Walt Disney's first animated feature 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'.
    - THIS is the biggest hidden easter egg in Disney's Wish.
    - You're welcome!

      The face actually appears a total of 3 times throughout the movie on different occasions, not really hard to notice to be honest as even the stairs to the dungeon as well as it's layout are similar to that of the Evil Queen's dungeon... Also: Poison apple

    The premise of this movie sounds dumb. Why would people give away their wishes if they aren’t going to remember them? How would you know if your wish was granted? Couldn’t people just work toward their wish?

      I wanted to believe this was an Elemental situation where it was super overhated for being basic, but after seeing it was thoroughly surprised with how good it was.
      This is nothing like that lol. It was bland, boring, and all around felt corporate to its core. Its not terrible, but its certainly not good, its just kinda...eh. and eh is the worst thing a movie can be in this day and age.

      As for Asha being Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, this theory is arbitrary because:
      Asha is inexperienced and requires actual apprenticeship under the actual Fairy Godmother and Blue Fairy from Yen Sid's council which could happen post movie.
