I am not one of those bigger gaming websites no 2-minute reviews here only details. Videogame reviews all the time. So if you are tired of short reviews, ones that don't discuss all the games, this is the right place. No big website 2-minute stuff here just a review for TLOU2
Coverage includes ps4, PS5, XBox series X, Xbox one, pc, Xbox 360, Wii, Wiiu, Switch, and digital storefronts like Steam, as well as companies like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo

What was your take on their capture of the Pacific Northwest?
I question the dodge mechanic, because in the Last of Us there was no dodge mechanic. In harder modes of the first game if you were spotted you had to either run away and hide, or try to fight your way on limited resources where either you die or you come out with depleted resources, then have to deal with that for a good deal of time and encounters where if you were spotted and caught you were basically dead. Basically speaking, if you made mistakes in the first game on harder modes you were punished big time and better off restarting that section, and smart play was rewarded.
Is there dodge spam in the harder modes of Part II making them much easier than the first game?
Why spoiler-free ? The Game has been out for a while

Tommy's voice actor really brought him to life
Totally agree. Tommy was awesome in this game
It would have been much better if post (Joel situation) we played some parts as Tommy and got to know him better, instead of being Abby.

Abby: What's your name?
Joel: My name is Nathan and this is my brother Sam.
*END CREDITS*
Abby never asks for their name.
She asked Tommy tho....
Yah, and the way he died... Not the way she killed him, thats fine.
Could have told the same story and kept the character consistent with the version we knew of him from the first game.
Imagine: Joel gives her a fake name, then when Ellie calls him by his real name when she gets there. They knock Ellie out. Joel dies defiant and with his head high. Then Ellie thinks she is responsible, and transfers that guilt onto Abby.
Except they have no reason to lie. If you played the game you will find out that they when they find people on their patrols they actually Escort them to the settlement. Meaning introduction is something they usually do. Joel is more social here too as he spent most of his years in a settlement where his closely involved with unlike in the first game where he was usually a loner.
Exactly. Tommy had no reason to give a room FULL of unknown wolves their real names. That was the biggest no no. We're talking about a man who can smell an ambush a mile away. That wasn't the Joel I remembered.
That brick at 20:07 turned into a damn homing missile. ='D
Expected. Dumbed down gameplay mechanics for consoles.
I could be wrong but I think that's one of the options in the accessibility menu.

One of the few good reviewers you can trust on RUclips. You don't have to worry about Karak sugar coating things out of fear of losing review copies from Sony.
The thing is, I don't believe that reviewers are rating 10 out of fear, but because this is truly what they want to review.
Its not a mechanically driven game, like dark souls or cuphead
Its filled with Sudo-intellectualism
Its good for morally standing to their journo friends. which lets face it, is who they write it for, rather than the demographic.
Oh yeah and its got good graphics
pageanator2000 Alanah, is that you?
I think it is fear. The game is politically correct...lesbian, super strong woman that beats up men, out of wedlock pregnancies, killing of all white men....it literally ticks every single box...if you don't give it a 10 then the mob will criticize your website/magazine into the ground.
@@Bmetalful Isn't the opposite what's currently happening? Reviewers give it at 10/10 and the mob, most of which never played the game in any significant amount, criticize them to the ground for pandering to Sony even though Alanah Pearce (ex-IGN staff) made a video providing insights that reviewers are more scared of the gaming community's response rather than the Publisher' (Sony's) response.
“Supplements teach your new skills”. So one might say taking percs has perks
20:07 did that brick just HOMED IN on an enemy?
Since when did bricks became that smart?
Should I stop using "dumb as a brick" idiome?
That's an accessibility option turned on, but yeah makes zero sense.
Sentient.
Press R2, it is automatic targeted throw, 100% u will the enemy
Lmao I caught that too. That brick definitely curved 🤣
@@edgehodl4832 I know. But that scene right there is one of those immersion breakers. It is the way ti is because it was programmed that way. And it was programmed wrong.
What it should really look like is as if character predicted where the enemy movement and threw the brick where they would be, like a real person would. And it would be relatively easy to implement too since the game knows where AI moves and where AI would be by the time brick could reach them way in advance.
Instead developers used simpler, more straightforward approach that is detrimental to the immersion they tried to build.
The companion AI is leaps ahead of what it was in the original game. I played it on Hard and had very few instances of immersion-breaking. In the prequel the companion would run in front of enemies but that rarely occurs here. Companions will also help you unexpectedly like stealthily taking out an enemy for you if you encounter a two-man patrol. Dina also does a solid job of mirroring your position when you're hiding too.
The only name in game journalism I trust.

Absolutely agree with the pacing problems. It was so jarring how the game throws you around the timeline constantly. I still enjoyed many parts of the game, but by the end, I felt like I’d just ran a marathon. Exhausted.
I couldn't have said it better myself. It's almost like they want you to play it in sessions 🤦♂️
Yeah i am just here in chapter select lol. Skip! 😂.
I felt like the flashback scenes were needed myself. They're used to break up the bleakness of it all.
If we go for just hours and hours of nonstop dread and death I think it would've been too much. As it stands the game already leaves you emotionally drained at times.
I think you just hit the nail on the head. I keep watching these reviews and wondering what they are talking about when it comes to pacing and repetitiveness. But I have been playing in 2 hour sessions when time permits. I’m about 14 hours in so far and enjoying it. I think breaks make this game better!
@@LovinLenin I think flashback scenes are nice. And they were usually the best moments in the game. But that's the problem. When the flashbacks are more interesting then the regular plot that's when things fall apart.

I just finished this game yesterday. You nail everything on the head. The biggest issue with me was the pacing and the flash scenes. It just drag too long for me.
Unfortunately games have to be 30hrs plus nowadays because "gamers" dont want to pay full price for the best 10hr game ever
They shoulda made abbys story dlc
Darth Vader "Luke, I am your father"
Cut to Episodes 1-3.
6 hours later cut back to Darth vs Luke scene.
alex duffy you have to be a little kid 🤣
cirescythe i don’t think naughty dog felt pressured to make a longer game. It just feels like they genuinely thought that this length would be meaty or give the right impact. Tbf the narrative they were attempting doesn’t work unless there is a long enough journey to think back on. Ultimately the pacing suffered though. I don’t mind the diversions but just the gameplay filler bothered me most.
4:07 _"The grass in the game makes other game's grass look like grass in games, if you get my drift."_
I do get your drift, and this is one of the most clever ways I've ever heard someone say _"these graphics are good"._ This is why I love you, Karak! Carry on!
Jordan Ghill the hell?
Hey dude just wanna say, I wait for your reviews before I even think about buying a game.
This
I think the pacing would of improved if most of the flashbacks were incorporated chronologically and cut 10hrs of mindless wandering around. The game doesn't need to be 25hrs.
Chronological order would have helped a lot. This was like playing Resident evil 2 as Leon then immediately being switched to Claire before even finishing the game.
100% agree. I have no issues playing as Abby and enjoyed her story. But the pacing of the story is all over the shop.
Shut up
YES
It's really a shame when you find yourself saying "This is just a depressing slog" about a game you've waited years for. Just started Abby's section and I don't know if I've got the will to play the game to the end.
It's pretty rough, I beat it a few days ago and I will say, Abbys playthrough is pretty enjoyable just from a gameplay aspect. Id go through it just for that alone.
Jimmy Balch since you already bought it, you may as well, but it doesn’t really get any nicer.
Abbys section is ok until after the hospital sequence then it drags!!
@@BoxBeater I agree!
It starts slow (the warehouses aren't all that fun) but she honestly gets some of the best moments in the game.
I know you were only putting for your personal feeling, but think "Wait for a Sale" is the most universal rating this game could get. I loved it. But it's certainly not for everyone.
I loved every second of this game too! It was a 10/10 for me and GOTY contender easily.
Scott Nunn The Christian Gamer most of them probably never even finished the game because they are too closed minded 🤷🏻♂️

I played this game with headphones, sound design was on poooint!
I would give the game a 7,4/10 and the audio design a 10/10. They really nailed that, but only that lmao
Its a ten for me.
The audio design is insane indeed. Explosions and heavy weapons really get the subwoofer moving.
Definitely agree, you'd be missing out a lot if not played with a decent pair of headphones in my opinion, audio was outstanding.
I played it on headphones too, was a little let down. While I agree that the sound design is excellent, it constantly misled me on how near/far enemies are, or what direction they’re coming from.
Does anyone still wonder why they threw the ball instead of running it?
I still do..... but then I start to think to myself "..... I miss sports..." 😪
Lmao. The seahawks will never get pass that blunder 🤣
Dude that one still hurts!
Hhahahahaha
They thought they were running with it. Imagine if they'd been good enough to pull it off (probably that'd made them smart enough not to do it in a sequel). I've recently read Abby's plot with supporting characters, still a divisive character, but NOT divisive writing.
Think of Watchmen. It blew comics' world back then. It also resulted in some authors and editors who really didn't get why it worked, thinking all was in the deconstruction tropes, and applying that to existing characters and settings. Went about as well as you can expect, you really can't deconstruct things that actually fit within the very work they are from. Yet deconstructing this game seems easy enough. Cycles of revenge? Tell the mooks' families.

@Toxicity in some ways
@Toxicity I prefer part 2 :)
@Toxicity You're delusional if you think the stealth and gun play is better in the original.
John Wick's dog=Joel
The first game had that same quirk w/ the friendly AI. I believe that was an intentional design choice because they felt that having an NPC break your stealth felt worse to the gameplay than a bit of immersion breaking. I think I would probably have to agree. The obvious best case scenario would just be to make the AI better so that doesn't happen but that might not be feasible. I don't think I have ever seen AI that good in any game ever.
The best thing they could have done is exclude companions ingame altogether.
I agree with this, although I do believe Naughty Dog made some improvements with the friendly AI and enemy AI in their sequel. In the first, I was constantly saying "how did they not see that?" In the sequel, I was only saying that a handful of times. So, improvements, yes. Issue still there? Yes.
It’s true though. I was terrified at first that they could get caught and ruin a run, but watching them crouch sprint back to home directly in front of an enemy was both hilarious and terrifying
@@semvision Not really, considering this game series relies heavily on the relationship between characters. It would've just castrated it from a narrative standpoint. Also maybe it's because I played the game on hard, but companions mostly hung back during stealth sections, so I didn't really notice it all that much unless I went out of my way to just follow them with the camera.
the enemies can notice allies in this game and the ally will apologize when you get back to stealth.
I've been waiting for your review of this game. Appreciate your no-BS approach. Thanks!
This review feels honest. It wasn't overly negative just because that's what's popular. Good review.
As somebody who admittedly loved the game, his criticisms were all spot on and my biggest problem with the game was also the pacing and length
The game as a game is great. The actual playing (control, visuals, sound and all) is great. The problem is the story is such a massive portion of the series that when that falls on its head, it overshadows and outweighs the rest of it, unfortunately. I spent almost all of Abbys section being annoyed to be her, and waiting to become Ellie again that I could not enjoy the actual gaming, combat and exploration itself...
When I became Abby I speed run the game with cut scene to get back to the theatre scene.
Always some excuse for you fanboys because you can't admit that the majority of people dislike the game.

Naughty Dog Lost My Trust
Part 1 had the exact same thing about your buddy AI when it comes to enemies. It doesn't make sense but in the end it is the only way they don't constantly find your AI teammate. But this was majorly prevalent in part 1
It was way worse in 1. It's close to fixed in 2.
They could have easily change the companion ai into a command mode. Other games have it and works great. You can command you ally to stay in the same spot or to come closer to you under cover.
But no, they kept mainly the exact same mechanics. So this game doesn't really feel it was under work for so many years. I don't find anything amazing or innovative about the graphic or mechanics...and let's not start about the worst part...the story
Play in Survival, those AI are realistic asf. If they hear some bottle that you step on.. they will immediete know where you are.
@@jetthejudge Of course it's better in the second game. There's a 7-year difference between the two. It'll be weird if it was still the same. ND isn't Bethesda.

I actually had the opposite happen with my ai. I was hidden and for some reason the ai was two moves behind where I was and he ran right into the path of an enemy and got spotted.

Same. Dina got me spotted at the news station. They even coded dialog for that. When they spotted me after catching Dina, they said “Its more of them”
I love watching your reviews of games that I've already played. The way you break things down often makes me go "Aha! That's why I felt the strange mix of emotions that this game left me with."
I actually had some great moments where teammates got some cool double or triple kills and I just watched. Pretty dope.
But, it’s either we laugh and have immersion broken by friendly companions out in the open, or they get us spotted and we rage. Which is worse lol
I really liked Days Gone's story. Especially the set up for the next game if we get one. The people that didn't like TLOU2's story would probably like that ones.
wkadalie that’s so true .. that worlds so beautiful to honestly.. I think I like it more then lou2
I think tlou2 does a good job at exploration and level design than days gone, even though its linear, i think anyone can agree that those notes you find and enormous amount of detail are the best aspects of the game. The notes are so well written.. its just a matter of opinion, i kinda liked it more than days gone but i enjoyed days gone more than tlou2.
Umm mind explaining to me how everyone and their grandparents ride around in choppers
I just got the platinum on Days Gone. I finally decided to buy it, considering the mess that TLOU2 appears to be and the fact they've spent a year updating and patching up Days Gone.
It was AWESOME. Anyone who even has a passing interest, I say do it! Just know that it does not make a great first impression, there is jank in the cutscene (not gameplay - the gameplay is really tight, I might suggest using the "small" deadzone setting and dialing your sensitivities to taste).
The world is gorgeous and detailed, the gameplay loop is fun, and the hordes are like playing Dead Rising except every zombie is Usain Bolt.
Days Gone is the real TLOU2
Great visuals, acting, music and fun gameplay. The issue with the game is that it is a huge hit or miss story-wise for many players, me including. This doesn’t take away any of it’s amazing strengths. It’s just that the story was very disappointing to me.
Thats what most people think, including me. I would give it a 4.5/10
That's unfortunate. I loved the story personally but it's not for everyone.
@@reed1645 same i thought the story was aweszome
Love the levelheaded review and I have to agree that the story is very divisive. For me, it’s a miss and because the huge impact the story has over the whole experience, I would be inclined to give it a low score. But to each their own of course.
@@reed1645 it is , its Just a written mess
How are you able to lock onto enemies? is that only on lower difficulties or did I miss something? The only weapons I could lock on with were throwables. No guns.
Dude, it's a basic accessibility option, just one of a large array that puts 99% of other games to shame in terms of how people with physical limitations can comfortably play it.
The ally AI thing was something that I've grown accustomed to in Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy where they literally walk past an enemy yet still somehow invisible. It happened to me less often here though but I really wish that would've been fixed totally.
Though still not great, the companion AI has been improved leaps and bounds compared to the previous TLoU and Uncharted games. In my games, they'll actually make an effort to get out of sight of approaching enemies.
And I could have sworn sometimes when I pushed too far with my companion, then fall back afterwards, the enemies actually spotted my companion which broke the stealth. Best part was, after all the enemies were killed, my companion actually apologized for it.
Don't they do this purposefully though? I know it can be a bit immersion breaking when your companion is clearly in the line of sight of an enemy but it would be more aggravating if you're sneaking around and each time your companion is spotted all hell breaks loose. AI just isn't good enough to work as its own body yet
@@Bakalar I would agree it's a lot better than TloU1. There's a few nice touches like they stop suddenly (nicely animated) when a clicker does its loud clicks or if you're crouched and move along cover the companion will shift and hug the cover tighter in order for you to pass. There's only been a couple of times I've felt the companion really stray out into an area that broke immersion where in the first game they'd often run around like a mad person.
A lot gets talked about next gen' graphics but honestly AI in all games are pretty crappy (let alone companion AI) it's something I'd rather devs concentrated on going forward.
@@Hoopla10 It will be interesting to see if the next generation improves on AI. I wonder what is currently holding it back. The hardware? For now unjustifiable effort in development?
@@CluelessMarvin It's presumably a mix of both. Alien Isolation is probably the best developed AI tree(s) this gen and that only had to focus on one NPC (the Alien). If we want all NPC to behave realistically then it takes more computational power. Plus it takes energy and work to develop, which costs money. It's hard to sell a game on AI when pretty graphics do a better job. But we must be reaching a point of reduced benefit of visual fidelity when even TLOU2 (a this gen' game) looks really good. We saw in the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo where this is probably heading and it actually benefits development pipelines rather than overwhelms them. So hopefully a lot of publishers will start looking in other areas of development to showcase their new games. Because done well it'll not only influence every part of a game it could entirely revolutionize all games going forward.
I actually really loved playing this game. I consider Last of US part 1 a masterpiece and I did not like Part 2 any less than Part 1. I enjoyed the heck out of it.
I wanna be all aggressive and say you did not find any problems, it story sucks and blah blah, but then I keep telling myself that dude, everybody has different perspective, just coz you have problems doesn't mean everyone should have them.
I liked this one more than the first one. The story was great until the 80% mark but overall I felt like it was ok.
The whole "AI stands and enemies don't see them" was something very present in the first game as well. And we all should be thankful for it. Imagine having a non playable character breaking your stealth, it'd be a nightmare.
Why have an AI partner if the partner is absolutely useless and incompetent?
AI is much better in this game. I went back and played the first one again after finishing the second and I can't tell you the amount of times a character got in my way, resulting in an enemy being alerted.
As opposed to the other, far immersive option of not having a useless immersion breaking companion at all. Or have them wait much further back (beyond your line of sight) until you clear out an area (if it's an escort mission (entire first game)).
Or, and god forbid, spend some actual time and money to improve the AI. We've got AIs today that are barely smarter than Half Life's.
For me they are just there to break monotony and deliver world building dialogue, I don't mind them as gameplay companions, it's fine that they don't help much.
Well done review. Personally, I disagree with the pacing / story issues. I was enthralled nearly every minute and was along for the ride. However, I did experience some moments where I didn’t want to do something or I felt exhausted with the game. In reflection, I think these moments are intentional for the sake of the emotional beats ND wanted you to feel. Now, some gamers may not like this experience and it may not be for them, which I appreciate. For me, it worked. It worked so well I played it immediately a second time. It’s my #1 game of all time. Thanks for your review. I always wait patiently for your takes.
Sounds like when people said that Death Stranding was "boring on purpose"
Not at all. Naughty Dawg had a story to tell and didn’t compromise that vision. I can understand that it’s not for everyone. It happened to be right for me.
I'm with you. I think I'm nearing the end (Seattle Day 3 with Abby) and I've been on the edge of my seat the entire time.
@@toolshedvideo Death Stranding isn't boring though. That's just how some people translate "delivery man" and "walking simulator" which I guess is what you COULD boil DS down to in the simplest terms, but it's so much more than that. Every game with a human avatar has walking and traversal. Death Stranding gamefied the basic act of walking, making traversal at all stages engaging.
As for TLOU2, I've played it now 6 times and got the plat on my 2nd run. I don't find this game exhausting at all. The audiovisual presentation is unparalleled, and I'm a PC gamer. The gameplay, while not perfect, is fantastic and fluid. Overall, I find the combat encounters to be thrilling(I'm playing on Survivor+) and just a few mechanics shy of being a perfect hybrid of stealth/melee/and gunplay. My GOTY so far, and certainly one of the best games of the generation.
@@toolshedvideo funny thing is even before the game came out the devs said exactly that, it will work for some and not work for others so they know exactly what they were doing, and they nailed their visions.
I can definitely agree with you that it felt disjointed at times, but I never once had the thought “damn this is dragging on.” Gameplay and story wise, I couldn’t stop thinking about how excited I was to jump back in and see how everything was going to play out over the last week or so that I played. At one point I realized that I had a stark feeling about almost every character and was constantly analyzing their motives and decisions. This tells me just how invested I was and was the main reason I couldn’t get enough. I honestly loved this game and would recommend it to anyone no problem.
As a guitar player, I was so impressed with the fingering of chords and the movement of the picking hand. Guitars are in a lot of games in one way or another, and this is the only game I've ever seen that actually uses correct finger placement. The picking hand isnt perfect, but real close. They nailed it. This small part really mattered to me
You need to get out more not a reason to get the crap of a game.
You people are pathetic, he was just complimenting one technical aspect of the game but that's already a reason to call names and spread stupidity
20:43 That’s an intentional design choice. It was in the first game too. Admittedly it’s immersion breaking but it’s basically necessary if you want to conserve supplies. Good review my man.
Imagine if they included a setting where you could turn on super realism where enemies can see your enemies realistically.
If the AI was better...it wouldn't need to done at all
@@wackosaco7369 even though it isn't perfect, the higher difficulties make your companion way more trackable by enemies.
20:06 nice curve ball with the brick.
lol
Not only did Joel teach Ellie to swim, he taught her how to throw bricks and make them curve, Wanted style.
I really like this guy's reviews, found this channel while choosing between Disco Elysium, Deadfire, Tyranny and Divinity OS2 (which sadly he didn't review).
This channel deserves at least the 1M subs.

Thanks for a well thought out review, Karak. I love this game but acknowledge some flaws, which for some people really affected their immersion. I was personally a huge fan of the story, but mostly because of the character studies therein, and less because of the sometimes inconsistent pacing. Either way, it's a cool time to be a gamer. Thanks man!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the 'open world' section in Ellie's Day 1. In my opinion, that's probably the best work Naughty Dog has ever done and it really made me want a fully open world game from them. Finding the music shop, breaking into the bank, etc. Those were probably the best moments in the game.
A lot of the areas were phenomenally immersive so just to imagine an open world game with exactly how it is that would be absolutely amazing. Dying Light is the only one close to something like that, but I love the emptiness and a lot more gritty how TLOU is.
@@SugarW1thC0ffee I agree, I was constantly astonished with the amount of work that had gone into every area I passed through. The semi-open world bit I loved but how you balance that with narrative if you expand it out even further where you're no longer in full control of how the player moves around the map. I thought Horizon Zero Dawn was excellent and loved the story but it sort of fell victim of that problem where only very clear sections the story/narrative is fed to you.
Just noticed you have your videos separated by pc reviews and console reviews.
A ton of respect for that. You clearly care about what you do down to the little details.
Unfortunately, I agree with most of what you said. The game kind of left me cold. However, I completely disagree about the AI partner not getting seen when they are standing out in the open. That would have been infuriating!
They did the thing with teammates on purpose. Its not fun when a character you cant control gets seen over and over.
It's certainly a compromise, but it's an easy one. Just because it works mechanically doesn't mean it doesn't break immersion. There can be other solutions.
That same problem existed 7 years ago. It's actually really pathetic.

None exist that's why smart designers never incorporate them.
I respect ACG’s reviews a lot. You can tell he’s very passionate about gaming but having played and finishing the game. For me personally it’s nothing short of a masterpiece. Never as a game got me feeling this many emotion’s from fear to down right feeling uncomfortable. I understand the cons with the length of the game and the “padding” but the so called padding parts of the game was necessary to find and collect resources and explore the many derelict buildings plus many interesting character interactions. Which I never felt like a chore. The games combat and mobility it’s greatly improved on the original which for me felt stiff and limited. Yes the length could of been shorter yes the story could of gone in a different direction. But the flashbacks for me only got me caring about the characters more gave me a back story to them. I personally loved the space shuttle scene. The set pieces are amazing. The graphics the music score both amazing. Voice acting and the emotion in the characters faces is some of the best of seen if not the best. I could go on and on. But I feel people are not appreciating how great this game is because the way Joel died or the story direction in which you play as Abby. But to say this is a wait for sale as much as I respect ACG’s opinion i have to utterly disagree. Is the game perfect? No but for me it’s a beautifully crafted masterpiece in which will take a long time to beat.
completely agree with you, the game is a masterpiece
Agree!!
Completely agree

“Now you upgrade by finding...drugs.”
I’m dying. 😂
On the enemies highest setting you can still run through some levels and skip it altogether. In some cases it's easier to run through than trying to sneak or fight through. This is one game I will not play through again. The playable cutscenes took the fun out of it, and they got annoying after a while.
True
You can run through dark souls lol
apart from the last mission survival is really tough getting up the stairs
One of the reasons why factions was so necessary too, once you got used to the game's ai it was pretty easy. This game being entirely single player though, the difficulty isn't there. I'm doing survivor+ right now, and even though I thought I would have to sprint through sections where I got caught and be out of ammo... I really don't. You can still take 4 to 7 bullets (I play with the health bar off) and lose line of sight on enemies like a batman game, while keeping some guns fully stocked on ammo for emergencies.
The challenge in the first game came from playing online against people, it was beautiful because unlike other games where they design it to play a certain way so it gives the game a certain feeling and then people just do what they want (battlefield games with 60% snipers and people using helicopters and jets as personal taxis)... TLOU is a survivor game where the more players scrap together "whatever works" to try and survive online, the more they try to exploit, the more immersive the game is. TLOU Factions was the game representation of the majority of online gaming, making playing online with randos feel as immersive as joining up with a sim battalion on arma because that's just how people play when left to their own devices.
My review score of this game is truly represented by Ellie playing guitar at the end of the game. Something's missing that makes it not worth playing.
you're probably the only big reviewer who waited to be able to talk about Abby's levels and part of the story, congrats
Karak will keep it real, let's just wait........
Thank you so much for rating this as a finished product and not just your opinion on the story like everyone else! This is how you do a review!
Although I personally enjoyed the story very much I really appreciate the way you do your reviews! Very professional and unbiased
Seems like a fair review.
Also, cool Lionheart reference, I didn't know that! I saw the movie on VHS tape way back when I was a little kid and loved it :D
I enjoyed this game quite a bit. It's kind of reverse from the first game where the gameplay and encounters carried the game more than the story for me this time around.
I actually found the level design incredibly rudimentary and the gameplay couldn't decide if it wanted to be uncharted or tomb raider or resident evil or the last of us
That's what I liked about it. I loved the jumping, climbing and rope physics. The first game was so dull. It was just shoot, sneak, boost me up! Shoot, sneak, boost me up! I also thought the aspects of revenge, redemption, and good vs evil had much more depth than the "go from point A to point B" plot the first one had.
I bought this game at full price and didn't regret it. I know the story choices aren't for everyone but the immersion, gameplay, and awesome set pieces kept me invested. I actually prefer playing this over the first even though I love the first game's story more.
First vid I've seen from you in a couple years. Nice to see how much your channel has grown man, well done!
Finished it last night.
We're spoilt nowadays. Its fucking epic. The amount of times my brain thought I was in an actual survival situation, then finaly getting through it with fossilised primal instincts and finding my jaw was on the floor. Yes its a bit bloated, pun intended, but playing at my own pace it was a great journey. I know its not faultless, mainly regarding the human enemy ai - but I think the cinematic encounters and brutal gameplay are easily worth the price tag. Fascinating how differently people receive it though.
20:07 Look at that; a homing brick!
Thankfully you put this video out. I was waiting for your take, considering how impossible it was to get a level head look into the overall product from everywhere else. I was worried you were gonna sidestep this review when I saw your video the other day. Thank you.
This must have been one of the most difficult reviews you’ve have to do knowing how split ppl are about the game and how the game was spoiled a month ago. Keeping it supper free as much as you could...that’s impressive. Great job as always bro!
I absolutely loved this game but I agree that it drags and it feels like a marathon. Going to that area with Abby the first time and fighting a horde of enemies only to realize I'm still like an hour away was very demoralizing,it really did feel like they just threw encounters at you to pad things out. Your review is the best one I've seen so far extremely fair and and detailed on every front like always.
Awesome!!!
Test the AI in grounded mode, instead of normal with all your assistance options. The AI is impressive and ruthless
The story reminds me of GOT and Star Wars, and the reception does as well.
I love this sequel!
I found the story firmly grounded, although you need a bit of open-mindedness to accept seeing part of it from another viewpoint.
If you're into immersive stories, it's a buy for sure. Gameplay is a little better than previous game, and I didn't ever feel bored at all. I finished it in 3 long playsessions.
I'm replaying it currently on newgame+, to complete all the upgrades and skills, and find whatever I missed on the first playthrough.
Where will the podcast about the story be posted? Interested in listening to your thoughts :)
For me this is a buy any day of the week, month, or year. I acknowledged a lot of the things that bothered you about the game as I played it, but I never felt like they got in the way of my enjoyment. For a while I thought it dragged a little, but by the end I realized why it had to be that long. There are so many people and places mentioned throughout the story, and by the end you got to see all of it. Most games would leave that to imagination but this one left no stone unturned. Great review, great game.
completly 120% agree with this sentiment. Felt it did drag, expecially towards the end of the second act I would say, but by the end of the game it all made sense why they did it. I do think they could have chopped a couple of houers off of the second act, but it didn't ruin my enjoyment. I think this is a must play if you are a person emotionally willing to accept the game's narritive.
Same.. I thought godfather dragged a bit but it’s still one of my favorite movies. I also think that this game needs to be played in smaller chunks rather than long drawn out sessions as the somber tone and bleak atmosphere start to weigh on your after a while. For my first playthrough I was glued to the screen for hours on end so certain bits felts a bit drawn out. My second playthrough I played in 90 - 120 minute sessions and I found that I didn’t get fatigued like I did the first time around and it certainly helped diminish the slog. All in all, fantastic game.
Idk what difficulty you were on, but on survivor, NPCs will spot your partner and shoot them, but you will remain in stealth
Christ, well that's one way to bump up the difficulty 😅
Survivor is so crazy lol
Top review mate, I enjoy watching your video reviews. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for confirming my thoughts. See you in a year or so when the sales are there.
I got a new copy in Sainsburys (UK supermarket chain) for £15 a couple of weeks ago. Not sure where you're based, but I'm guessing the outlets that over-ordered are fire-selling it about now. I haven't open mine yet. A friend gave me a 'broken' PS4 just before Xmas (it was completely loaded with dust but is now working); so I'm still playing catch up on other 'good' PS4 exclusives that I'd already bought dirt-cheap either new or second-hand.
@@TwoOnions275 I treated myself to a PS Now subscription for only €45/year las november. Too many games to try now but thanks for the reminder ;)
I feel video game reviews have stopped working for me, since most reviewers focus way too much on the story these days and apparently have no expertise when it comes to gameplay mechanics.
As a TPS with stealth and melee thrown into the mix Part 2 is definitely a new benchmark. How did RDR2 and RE2 Remake achieve such high review scores with much more basic gameplay than you'll find in Tlou2?
Every time I watch one of your videos I have to remind myself how cool it is that we have the only human being who doesn’t breathe making great game reviews
I appreciate your view. Man I had to buy this game .I didn't regret it one bit. The look alone deserves a buy to me hands down this is the best looking game I have ever played. The characters had feeling .you could feel Elle's speed and Abby jjst felt invincible going into a fight,i felt like gun or not im winning this fight. In all I think the detail and everything just fell together. Nice review man .
So agree with you! The story might not work with everyone but the game it self was just really good!
this channels comedy is VERY underrated
None can say things the way Karak does; watching your videos is always a delight! :-)
I agree with everything you said. It does have pacing issues, and I feel the story should have been sequenced better. It feels like they went for shock over coherence, which I think did not serve the story well, and only added to the drag.
That said, I'm still glad I bought it. I think it's a game I appreciated more than I enjoyed, but I am glad I played it.
I had a similar experiece. Although i can't help but feel like TLOU2 will be a game we'll look back in 5 years with potentially most of us thinking we over reacted and that the game was better that we gave it credit for. I went into it feeling sour because of the leaks so I don't entirely trust my rating of it.
The game is coherent though? Outside of the beginning and segments, you play Ellie over 3 days, with a flashback at the end of each day, then you play as Abby and iirc there's a flash back at the end of each day. Each days flashback gets closer to the present. It's honestly not than complex.
Seal seriously, it’s shocking when the perspective switches to Abby, but then it literally says “SEATTLE DAY 1” and it’s very clear you’re gonna play all 3 days, and the flashback structure was already set up during Ellie’s portion
You like buff chicks eh
Just finished. Ending felt a little flat to me. Loved the gameplay, the sound design was incredible. 9/10.
That's the rating I gave the game too. And, the ending is one of those you have to think outside the box for a second. Ellie has mentioned in the first game (and I think the Left Behind DLC) that her biggest fear is being alone. Not only that, the path of revenge usually puts you in a deeper hole (depression and guilt). Because of Ellie trying to get her revenge (and of course ultimately not killing Abby), she ends up being alone and losing the people she loved. Now, I would like to think at the end that she goes back to her family and Tommy and tell them what happened and hope the best for Ellie. But, oh well. I thought the ending was sort of well done. If some of the scenes were rearranged to where they help the story progress smoother, I'd give it a 10 for sure.
