Hey everyone, this is the new and improved final video! This video shows the game audio and video from my 1 hour, 24 minute, 36 second completion time of Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories for the Playstation 1. This was played using the original game disc, a Playstation 2, and an original PS1 controller. This speedrun was done in real time.
Enjoy!

Twin Headed Thunder Dragon : The Game.
this game predicted thunder dragons being meta
Fr loool
The main hook of this game for me was the buzz of correctly guessed fusions lol. Then ruining something that is OP by chucking something else on it and startin again. Need a remaster where you just fuse cards
There is not one duel where an AI doesn't use Twin Headed Thunder Dragon.
There is not one duel where an AI wouldn't use Twin Headed Thunder Dragon.
The commentary, the actual explanation of the RNG manipulation through frame picking and the flawless gameplay. Speedruns world is amazing and I'm glad you uploaded this video. I used to play this game for hours with my now gone nephew and this brought some very good memories of the time we had together.
I've beaten this game multiple times, and I had absolutely no idea there was a way to manipulate the RNG like you have. You also explained it in a very easy to understand way. Kudos, man. You've earned a new subscriber.
I never beat it :(
I'm sorry for what you've been through man, hope your channel comes back to shape and do many great things
EZ sent me to tell you, you are awesome
RUclips sent me to EZ, since I am not subbed to him but watch similar content, and EZ sent me here.
As was I. I happen to adore Yu Gi Oh too, so it looks as though he has a new subscriber, too~
Huh, after seeing EZs video I was curious about this game's speedrunning and searched for a speedrun, I didn't even realize it was the same guy :)
Same
Aside from this impressive new informations and speedrun, your commentary is really unique and special, you may be a great professor or lecturer
Wow, thank you! That means a lot to me. I've never thought of doing something like that. I never considered myself a good speaker or presenter, but thank you for letting me know this!
Comments like yours really, really make all of the worth worthwhile.
Thank you again!
it intrigues me deeply how people get to discover these things. I might live to be a 100 years and I can guarantee I would NEVER be able to find out such things as a specific frame wih a specific set of cards doing specifics movements throughout the gameplay... you guys are low-key geniuses. kudos!
Natan Caetano best i could do was always getting the deckmaster i wanted in duelist of roses
They check the game code, is not that complicated man
@@Danillosilvam where is the code available at?
@@danyrszz people develop speedrunning tools to hook into the game memory. Tool-assisted runs often inform realtime runners of hidden mechanics. It's a community effort.
It's not something one does alone. If you have the interest and become a part of a community as passionate as this one i'm sure you can make great contributions in your own way.
I used to play FM a lot in my friend's house, back in my childhood. Seeing this gam get mastered like this is just AMAZING!
I totally feel you, back in the day we had a group of friends who had this game all in the same street, we used to Write every fusion that worked in a notebook, the best part was fighting each other and seeing who had the best deck, good old times.
“There are a lot of other ways to win without using MBD, which I’m going to show you right here”
*Uses two MBD’s to win*
Facebook notification sound at 19:21 lmao
Good vid tho! Been amazing to see this game's time get whittled down this much over the years
Ph.D Steel LMFAO u right, fuck. My bad. Thank you!
Meteor Eyes Black Dragon is the best card in the game.
That's a sentence I never thought I'd hear.
This was the first game I ever played on my own console, so it's amazing to see you play it and explain the history behind it. You are amazing
...you know how many DAYS as a kid I spent grinding for cards...
I got this game when I was under 10 my first good card from grinding I got when I was 18
Good times tho
Your commentary is fantastic! Concise and informative, and you have a good cadence and tone! Glad I watched
This is exactly what I want in a speed run - I hate the silent ones or the webcam ones, tbh. I just wanna hear about cool mechanics and maybe just neat stuff about the game
silent ones are nice too. sometimes speedruners fill the run with annoying jokes or sounds
I use to love this game growing up. I remember spending countless hours trying to farm more Meteor B Dragons, only got one haha. Anyways, I really liked your commentaries, they made watching this nostalgic and entertaining. You sir, have earned a new subscriber.
I just used two additional memory cards to copy meteor b dragon to get three
Holy shit this is so awesome. Love hearing you go through the brief history of the speedrun and your thought process throughout.
I haven't played Yu-gi-oh since high school, I'm 34 now, but I wanted to drop by to show some support. Here's a Like my dude, sorry to hear what you went through.
I think this video is a really important contribution. A lot of people do speedruns, but few take the time to commentate and detail and explain their runs. Thank you. I myself don't care very much about Yugioh, but it is beautiful to see motivated and inspired people.
I really can't remember how I got my first Meteor B Dragon. But I can remember trading this card with my cousins and duplicating it with a trick my big cousin found. We all had this card 3 times in our decks. Now I am playing the game again after all these years and I can't even beat kaiba after the festival
This video is so great, the commentary is excellent
Came here from EZ. Stayed cuz you're content is great! Subscribed
If you reach the break skip to 1:08:20 for the next comment.
Thank you!
thank you for commentary. it may sound off, but i leved this game as a kid but never understood the true game. its soothing to fall asleep to this game, that may sound odd but i love this game!!! thank you!!!
That secret number at the end unlocks Meteor Dragon. How fitting.
Man just brought back so much nostalgia. Completely forgot how much I used to play this
C'mon guys smash the like button! Remember to turn off adblock if you have it. Let's support GFC in his time of need cause he deserves it! Even if this game doesn't interest you, mute it and have it running in the background. There's only about 600 likes as of right now. Let's get it to 5,000!
Hey man thanks so much for teaching us about how to help us speed run
This was the explanation I was looking for.
I was vibrating with nostalgia watching this. Isolated from the rest of the yugioh games, mechanically, this was such a whacky-fun monster combiner.
Combining goofy 300 attack weenies to make a Mystical Sand is a thrill that still makes me smile to think about.
Very good commentary, easy to understand. I think you should add why you choose Sun rather than Mars for MBD on Ocean High Mage, and add a word about Meadow High Mage (the 4250 Gate Guardian and Megamorph, and prolly giving a bit of explanation about how the AI works when it comes to equipping monsters, and how many cards are actually in their hand). And maybe a quick explanation about how to differentiate Traps and Spells set by the AI (useful if you fail DarkNite manip).
froggy0025 Good points. I felt my explanation of guardian stars earlier on would give the viewer enough info to deduce why I chose Sun on Ocean. But the other things would be good to add. I wonder if I can record audio over this video.
GFC_ you may actually be able to GFC. I know RUclips has its own video editor that you can doctor your uploaded videos with.
Most water Monsters have neptune
Mars is weak against neptune
I know one two things about the AI
If a Monster is face Down attack it will have 3000 or more atk, if der then less
And the spell-trap difference is simple
If the AI uses the Cursor and the card gets darker its a spell, if not its a trao
i found you through EZ but this speedrun was beautiful to see you break things down as you do them so even someone who might be new can understand stuff and why you're doing it.
That 4250 Attack Gate Guadian is sure a scare.
That Darknite duel where you didn't draw a single MBD until your 12th final card... I would have thrown the controller by then lol
Meteor B Dragon. Carried. I bet his shoulders are tired
The number of attack, the number of magic used, the time using 3D Battle, the Guardian Star Advantages/Disadvantages, all of them change the Offset value for Reward.
Brought back Alot of nostalgia hope everything gets sorted out
Damn I remember playing this when I was like 10 years old. Near the end I thought the best thing I could do was keep making the twin headed thunder dragons and try to power them up as much as possible lol. Sometimes I'd have 3 at once against the last 6 guys you show in this video and would usually get to boost one to around 4k attack, yet I still never managed to reach those last 2 fights - I don't think I've even seen them before! I actually tried farming all the duelists for a while at the end looking for new cards and did find the meteor b dragon, but never managed to get more than one even after like 50-100 perfect duels with the guy... It still didn't get me to the end and I think I just stopped playing then XD
Nice commentary btw. I definitely find non-rng manipulation much more interesting tho, especially for game likes this one making you plan ahead to an extent
thejumperkin I consider luck to be a factor in ppl like myself obtaining 3 copies in the first 40 duels against meadow mage won me the game xD
I eventually got around to pulling thtd (randomly) from Seto 2 after just 3 duels and of course plenty of other stuff 😂😂
I think the way my deck was built, I had a manipulative built into the game and would strangely pull good stuff when I least expected it
@@edumacation4583 it took me about 10 years to get one good drop from meadow mage
I like the commentary with the speedrun.
This game’s OST is the BEST
I laughed at your video description. vapewild lol
Supporting a real speedrunner, keep the good work!
I remember me and my uncle farming the forest mage to get a dark magician since it was his fav card it took us 200 plus duels to get it
The regular one or the high mage?
@@adamhutchison926 I think it was the regular one. We looked up who gives out what cards.
Right when I found out people speedrun this game this shows up in my reccomended videos, nice.
very impressive!
Rong Rong hey you’re the only one to comment recently. I just bought this game, and I have no idea how to get past the card deck selection screen, I have yet to play a game because I can’t get past it, yet the dude in the video immediately goes past it, would you happen to know how to get past that screen? If you could help I’d appreciate it
@@steelerfan310 Press Start or O, one of the two.
Oh hey, it's you! More Indonesia related satire please!
thank you. a bit late to reply, but hey. ♥
@@GFC_FM heres a bit late to your reply, for no other reason than to comment on a 9 month old comment
I really like that you opted for post commentary. Though live commentary has it's own fun, it relies on the charisma of speed runner to be effective and rarely goes in depth. Despite playing Tag Force while having this up, there were a few things I didn't know about the game and the information was presented as needed, not to carry the content
God I couldn’t fit all this information in my head it’s so impressive
1:20:46 WTF? So,me 1 can explained ???
Alien
Hey! When I was a child I used to play this game a lot on my ps1 and one day, after I fired up my console, I noticed that something was quite wrong: the card's text was in Japanese (or symbols resembling that) and all cards' stats were messed up as they all had 3000/4000+ atk/def like you can see in this video /watch?v=8Dp9n6CGzLk After some time I had to shutdown the console of course and the glitch never happened again... I'm still trying to find a way to reproduce this. I was playing the EU version of the game (original) without any kind of cheats/codes. I researched for quite a bit on the net about this glitch/bug, but the only thing I found was couple people who claimed to have replicated the glitch by repeatedly pressing X or by going to the option menu>selecting stereo>pressing O. Another guy also said that this happened to him after having accidentally nudged their console while the game was running lol.
Anyway, do you know anything about this? If a way to replicate this is found, would it be possible/legal to use it for speedrunning purposes?
Thanks for your attention and sorry for the wall of text :P
Hey, this is a bit of a late reply to the thread, but I too had the same issue! My PAL copy of Forbidden Memories does this from time to time, maybe every 10 boots or so. However, whenever it does this, the randomised monster stats and types are always the same each time; cards such as Mountain are now monster cards and often do, as you say, 3000+ damage.
My conclusion is just that the console misread the disc due to damage or dust, as I've never encountered this with emulation, just physical copies. This sometimes happens in Ape Escape for me, where textures are randomised or invisible altogether. I'd love for more research to be done though, because you're right. You can easily speedrun the game with a 4000 ATK Mountain card!
I´m here to subscribe, not out of pitty, but because I honestly enjoyed the run :I
words can't describe how much this video blew my mind. you can fuse magic cards. holy fuck!
I wish the classic Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon were relevant in the actual card game
Your commentary Style is very sympethatic
synthetic? or sympathetic?
Dark knight : let me set the trap and spell for fun
Thanks for the useful commentary, and congrats for the awesome speedrun
Don't give up your hobby. Do your thing!
GFC... Does that stand for Good Fucking Content? Because that's what this is. :)
1:20:43 a glitched cosmo queen?
Ez sent me here. The commentary made me stay. Great video.
Played the hell out of this game as a kid, but it was pretty hard back then so probably never got far.
this is great dude, yet the fps timing is complicated. can you make a video emphasizing those definite AUDIO and VISUAL cues please? on where and when exactly to press
Hi! I'm trying to enter the speedrun world (in Sega Genesis games) and I just wanted to say "sorry" for what you have been through. And please, keep the good job 💜
Also this game is insane to speedrun, so good job
Joga Comigo Good luck on your way to speedrun ! :D
Soooo, why the messenger sound notfcations ?
I don't like this Game because comparing it with other card videogames it seems that for being able to have fun and beat the whole thing You need to either do this or grind for thunder dragón + equip cards. So pretty much every run ends the same. Which I find totally contradictory to what a card Game its supposed to be.
It's entertaining to see people mastering the game like that tho
What causes the "there's nobody here" softlock after the first tutorial battle with that mummy mage guy.
18:50 that was painful haha
I m currently stuck with the game. All shrines are empty. Can t do anything in the valley. And at the big shrine behind metropolis a guard is blocking the entrace.
I played this game ten years ago but I m sure I never finished the big shrine.
Or if I can't dual anyone in campaign does this mean I have completed the game already in the past? Weird that a guy is blocking the entrance to big shrine still...
I don t have all characters yet, so I'm pretty sure I didnt finish the game..
go to the dueling grounds
That Messenger sound effect around 19:20 creeped me out
I wonder if, someday in the future, players will manage to get the timing down in a live run to replicate this in actual runs for the record books.
this run was done live, real time, in one uninterrupted sitting
RNG Manipulation...the true forbidden power of the ancient ones.
Holy shit this is a hidden gem!
You legend yugioh Forbidden Memories ps1
1:20:48
Magical Ghost Fusion with Picture-Color/Name of Cosmic Queen?
This is a visual glitch caused by playing Forbidden Memories on a PS2 with the Fast Disc Speed option enabled. This speeds up loading times but it does cause these visual glitches.
imagine beating the Dark Emperor and save the world from chaos to get a the end a Nekogal #2 lol
@1:20:48 What's going on here? Phantom Ghost + Mystical Elf = Cosmo Queen?
No idea why the game's showing that name, but that's actually a Magical Ghost based on the art and attack/defense.
@@ArcanaMaxima yeah, I know the monster card. Just a weird glitch maybe! Just why did it happen haha
This happens when you play Forbidden Memories on a PS2 with the Fast Disc Speed setting enabled.
@@batch_2731 Ah! Thanks
I got a Yu-Gi-Oh ad on this vid and I thought you intentionally edited the video to feature Kaiba being a douche after winning those Meteor B. Dragons. 😂
Does playing this on a PS2 make the game run faster? I've just played this on a PS1 and it seemed noticeably slower than this video, particularly with the slash animation on direct attacks above 2000 damage. On the PS1, it would slow down a bit to highlight how significant the damage was.
On PS2 you need to Enable Fast Disc Speed in your settings otherwise the change isn't really there.
You are awsome and deserve more subs
I'd probably love to speedrun this game if any% wasn't intimidating as hell. Makes all the manips in Pokemon Yellow look easy (to me at least)
Man all these useful speedrunning tips and im just trying to figure out why the hell kaiba has the millenium rod
Propably cause Kaiba is like the reincarnation of setto
Amazing video and explanation..
There is no way to not subscribe in your channel sr.
What a run, you are amazing
I love playing this game. I love making so many fusions!
perfectly ultimate great nerd
Low meadow mage also gives the meteor B dragon, dark wizard, zoa, megamorph, red eyes black dragon, etc. After getting it/them, i saved and duplicated my game into another memory card and then I would trade it back to me. It was a cool game 🤙
Meadow mage does not give you zoa, or Megamorph, or red eyes.
Meadow Mage drops Meteor B. Dragon, Skull Knight, Dark Magician, and a bunch of dragons (Curse of Dragon, Metal Dragon, Crawling Dragon, etc).
Thanks for explaining all that
i love this game
this beats farming meadow mage for MBD
Why take the time to fuse at 1:14:14? I’m new to these runs but wouldn’t Mystical Elf be enough to win? I’m sure there’s a reason. Sorry if I’m just bein a nub
When you are in a duel, the frame count actually stops. Each action give a value to increment the frame count, including: Fusion, fusion fail, attacking a monster and destroying it, attacking a monster with higher defense, attack a monster with higher attack, attacking a monster with equal attack, and when you play the fight animation, the frame start to increment too. That's why he triggered the animation at specific times . At the end, that fusion was to manipulate the other duelists that came after.
ChaosWeapon figured it was some sorta manip. Thanks for takin the time to explain. Cheers! :)
8:17 nice
50:49 thank god
Is there Two different versions of this game because some characters are missing that you have to beat
I love this, but still love that the game had so much RNG to it, which made watching it so exciting, rather than a performance. Just my opinion, cool nonetheless!
Are there any speedrun categories that utilise the Sony PocketStation? Or is it seen as too slow or kinda like cheating?
yeah the unrestricted any% category allows it, but no one runs it because it's not really that fun
a few people in the community have pocketstations and Japanese copies of the game but like I said, it just isn't really something that's run these days
but if you're interested, you can see all of that plus a lot more on the official speedrun leaderboards, which is at speedrun.com/yugiohfm
@@GFC_FM fair enough. Thanks for the info, I'll check it out 🙂
52:30 made me jump up and check fb lmao
Man that's so cool !!

How can you tell what frame you're on in real time when playing on a PS2?
Amazing, dude
por que você no início, contra o Heishin, você na batalha acionava o duelo em 3d?
