I've been on Vero for a year now. I have my content and spam account, photography account, and a personal account. I like Vero for it's data privacy, no ads and higher quality posts. I also love that I can share anything and the beautiful UI for phones and tablets. Other things I love about Vero is that you can watch shared youtube links in Vero and it opens in the app rather than going to your default browser, not only that but you also don't get any ads.
I've been on Vero for a few years too but still trying to find the best way to use it. I wanted to create a 2nd account on there recently but can't see a way to make another account like you can on IG. Is there a way to do it or do you literally have to create separate accounts? Thanks
Thanks for watching, I'll start. I'm using.. - RUclips as my main platform - Twitter for conversations - twitter.com/itsjonnykeeley - Instagram for business relationships and lead gen - instagram.com/itsjonnykeeley - Vero for photographer to photographer communication - vero.co/itsjonnykeeley LINKS ABOVE 💪🤝
Instagram: When you say "Business relationships" are you meaning clients or potential clients? Is this because the people hiring you are not photographers, but people that need a photographer, and they are more likely to discover you on Instagram? Thanks.
It’s exhausting at this point trying to put out quality content when you have been doing it for years. I think RUclips doesn’t truly lookout for all of their creators and it frustrating putting in hours of work on long form content just for a 4 second clip to get 200x the views with no effort.
Agree! I myself don't put in a lot of work on my present channel but I also have another educational channel and it is utterly discouraging to see your efforts are futile!
I do photography but it's not traditional photography, it's video game photography. Since May I've been taking a proper break from Instagram for the first time in about a decade, and it's really allowed me to try new apps and explore what else is really out there. Instagram is still my number one choice to post my photos since everyone I've connected with through this hobby is still very active there. So as long as that's the case I don't think I'll really be moving anywhere. Instagram is really weird to me because as a creator it doesn't meet any of my needs anymore, but as a consumer it checks every one of my boxes. It's a strange spot to be in. I do think Twitter is emerging as one of my favorite places to share photos. Video game photography does especially well on there, and it helps that game studios are actively retweeting fans' images or even have their own hashtags to see people's work. Can't speak much on proper irl photography though. Vero is awesome, I tried it back in 2018 and it's become even better than it was back then, but the communities I'm involved in haven't migrated at all yet. What is nice to know though is that artists of all types are fed up with Instagram and are exploring new destinations for their content.
spot on Jonny boy! well done. Will share later some other options and ideas we've got since had this thought 5 years ago already. hehe. see you soon. good job and see you somewhere else.
100% agree. As a musician who likes to post good-quality, long-form content, IG feels an absolutely dead platform. I've invested a lot of time in the last 3 years and it's just got steadily worse. Right now I feel like I'm posting into a black hole. Wondering whether to go over to RUclips for the content and then use IG as just a promo tool to share links to new music, etc.
Hey, so for someone weird reason my message to you keeps getting deleted. Perhaps it was because I added a link to another platform. So I am basically going to have to paraphrase myself for the third time. I checked your channel on Insta. You are doing a lot better than I am. I have been trying for years to get some traction but nothing. I gave you a follow not so long ago and you have just followed me back, thanks. It's gotten a lot worse since the change and as you put it, 'posting into a black hole'. I feel exactly the same, I miss the 'promote it' people. Insta said they were trying to help the little guy but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've watched a ton of videos since the change, hence why I am on this channel and all the advice is completely different and guess what, none of it works, well not for me. Make sure you post at 18.57 and 52 milliseconds. Sarcasm. Ok but what time zone ? Never mentioned. Write something in your bio, nothing. Use 2 or 3 hashtags instead of 30, nothing. The space suit video is really cool, is that original footage or one of the clip sites ? It's really cool anyway and I love the vibe of the music. I did check out a few of your others. Not to seem like I just clicked on the first one.
@@TJ-vt6rt Are you My Entity on IG? If so your content is amazing. No wonder you're frustrated with lack of growth. I have no pearls of wisdom. I've been making it up as I go along and yeah most of the growth tips on RUclips are generic garbage that almost never work. I do use a lot of free stock clips that I edit together in an attempt to make a narrative. Can't afford paid stock. Hope to start filming some of my own stuff soon.
@@chameleon-dream-band-official Yep, that would be me. Thanks for your kind words. The post I tried to link to is the 6th one back with the girls eye. I thought that might get me some reach but literally nothing. It was an important topic and a song I wrote many many years ago but yet nothing, no reach. It's just a black hole. Where does one get so called 'free stock' from ? I use Canva, it's about 100 pound a year. It's a little limited and having to spend hours upon hours looking for something that will add to my music is frustrating but I once paid someone 800 pound for an album cover and since then I can create all these little videos and EP covers for a lot less myself. Sure, they are not original images or clips but I am pretty small time and I have been for around 18 years now. I'm not giving up, neither should you.
I’d love VERO to become what Facebook used to be. It’s already (for the most part) filling the void of Instagram but Vero offers a level of self expression that other social media platforms don’t have. The ability to share movies, books, games etc has huge potential for creating a space that is uniquely YOU and not just a space to advertise your work. Atleast that’s how I feel my relationship stands with them. VERO just needs a wider audience to jump on board. I want to follow people other than just photographers.
@@Totte.Lundgren Not if they wait until they have a loyal and consistent user base. Considering the app released in 2018 - or at least I first joined then, and everyone said they’d start charging and they still haven’t. Plus think of all the subscriptions people pay for with streaming services or things like Adobe suite? I probably spend $100+ a month on subscriptions and I’d think most people do. If it was something reasonable like $5 a month I don’t think it would be out of the question especially if it’s giving users the experience they want. (I just don’t think it’s there yet). But to play devil’s advocate there’s also been no major updates since I joined in 2018. I signed in a few weeks ago and it was like nothing changed which isn’t a great thing. It could become a completely personalised feed of just your interests and it would allow people to connect with people of similar interests in a more active way and might allow the draw of people other than photographers onto the app.
Great video and smart advice. I have one specific question though… Vero is getting so much hype but it’s pretty much only seems to be coming from other creatives and photographers. No typical person that I know that would visit platforms like instagram or TikTok has even heard of it. So my question is if it’s just a bunch of creatives that are flocking over to Vero how is that going to help anybody in creative industries . I think what they are doing is pre-emptive. They can see where things are going and know that people who are into posts will be migrating elsewhere so they are being proactive in establishing themselves on other likely platforms.
Thanks Luke. I'm doing exactly that, sharing my photography with other photographers and using it to view photography. I will still do my outreach on instagram , but that doesn't require posting so much.
Thanks so much! So it's kinda in hopes that a more diverse crowd will migrate in down the road. I also wonder about the average person having too many options of platforms to choose from. I think there are about four creators that I follow on every platform. I am in awe of folks who can keep it all up without a big staff. When it comes to following people, I look at what they are doing on each platform to decide if I will follow them. There are people I follow on Twitter that I never followed on IG or Vero because I enjoy the interaction on Twitter but their photography isn't what I enjoy. I've also never actively pursued followers. I probably have less than 100 combined that are not related to me. I have IG, Twitter & Vero for photography. I have a tiktok account but have never posted I tried doing YT about 15 years ago but deleted the channel.
As you say, you got to use the right tool. I would add, for the right reason. Is everyone on Vero because McKinnon and others say so ("forgetting" to mention Vero's purpose is to sell your data, as it surfaced in 2018) or because it really is the best IG alternative. EyeEm has been around almost as much as IG and is actually a better community with some fantastic photography. Or if you want to get seen and hired by brands maybe look another place (almost none are on Vero). As you say, short form video still works on IG (and maybe TikTok) and conversations are more interesting on Twitter...
Vero have actually addressed this in their privacy policy, which I presume was in response to the concerns about how they store and distribute user data. Their policy is pretty comprehensive, but summed up, they hold your data so that they can provide their service, and do not share the data with any third parties. They also state that in compliance with GDPR, if you leave the site, they delete the stored data. Their long term plan for revenue is to charge a subscription for the service, however any earlier adopters will not have to pay the fee - this is a smart incentive to build up a user base which will make the platform more enticing down the line to people who are willing to pay a small subscription to avoid ads, and removes the need to generate revenue from data sales.
I use RUclips as a one stop shop for long / short form video and the community tab for photos and posts. Other platforms don’t seem to connect to viewers that are interested in my content. My audience is mainly over 55. Funny that most of my correspondence on IG is from the viewers wife or child asking for an email address😂
I think Instagram is still great because of two thing. 1, they have caroussel post and 2 more high quality short form video. Somehow Instagram culture is making good looking content, while tiktok praising fun and sensational content. I also have diversivied content into youtube, tiktok and ig. And after watching this you give me a new idea for trying Twitter.... Thank you 👍
I have Insta/FB, think to use twitter, RUclips, possibly TikTok more.. insta always seems to be changing, does not know who they are, but I have many colleagues there..
Unless vero has got the discovery feature or even the search feature figured out ~ it isn't worth a dime, even from a community or as a private user aspect, there needs to be engagement within the app which makes you appreciate other content( tiktok does this way better than any other, the fyp is the feature they're sellin on, vero needs an fyp as well as an API to flourish) apart from that I really do think it's a great app/ ux, interface , friends / connection, it truly is a social platform.
I love what VERO could be! The only thing that I personally am not a fan of is how many different types of "friendships" there are. It also seems that if you establish a friendship it doesn't count as a follower? It confusing to have friendships vs followers
Before YOU install VERO please read the terms of service. Especially their privacy terms. I did and refused to install it after reading how intrusive the app is on your phone. Bye
I’m an airbrush artist and have only begun to focus on growing my Instagram. The bulk of my followers are on Facebook and RUclips growth has been even slower. I like the idea of redirecting people to certain apps for different content. I assume IG is prioritizing video content based on the info you’ve provided. I was unaware. I recently have taken a long break from live video content due to burnout and the content being disorganized and stale with dropping live views. You’ve give me some great ideas. Thank you
Thanks for this! I've been alternating between instagram, twitter and vero now for photo sharing...I'm also using RUclips for travel vlogs/videos. I probably still use instagram the most though, more so out of habit than anything else lol
This video was done really well, great idea that are very helpful. my tiktoks seem to be very random with how well they do. RUclips is a great place for my viewers to see the whole effect that I put in whilst use other platforms for the communication like you said. 👍
I'm using Instagram for staying in touch with my community, RUclips to give them the most value and find clients, TikTok to test stuff, Vero for fun 😁 BTW, I hope to see you there! Come along and say hi :D
I just think what Instagram has done is/could be typical of any platform. They change the rules, we don’t have any say in it, we just have to take it. After investigating a lot of time and energy into it. Some have spent money. So why bother? Why spend your precious time and or money on something that can change? Who would invest in that? If I was looking for an investment I wouldn’t invest in anything with those conditions. I seriously think these platforms will all fail when people revolt against them. You will only change platforms and start again only a few times before you say no more.
Hello, please i need some help. I can't switch my Instagram account to professional account. I followed the instructions but can't find the option switch to professional account
I removed my business and photography account from IG. I left only my private account to communicate with family and friends. I'm considering now some alternatives, I'd prefer a decentralized app built on blockchain. I have enough after almost a decade spent on centralized apps and services where the shareholders don't give a damn about their users and are just trying to find a new way how to milk us. Blockchain is the future.
Great video. Diversification is important, however, it does require more attention. I do like your analogy with the band. Such a chore on IG and it feels easy on Vero.
Very well said! I was just talking about how many of the accounts I follow on IG, when I find them on VERO it’s a carbon copy. It has made me less likely to follow right now. And that said, something I’m also trying to figure out. So thank you! I think VERO atm still feels clunky, the user experience feels incomplete and I’m excited to see that improve. So not loving it atm but I see the potential.
Love the investment thinking! The time investment put into Instagram needs to be diversified across other platforms. Good advice for money investments. Good advice for time investments.
I think it’s fair to say diversification represents the same type of security in finance as it does in the examples in the video, regardless of strategy.
Great video once again Johny! You really motivate us and THANK YOU for this! So, after thinking, after I saw your video: - VERO is already my main PHOTO POSTING platform and I LOVE IT - INSTAGRAM will be used for more story posting, while keep admiring the work of the photographers I follow all these years there! Maybe I'll post every once and while too , just to be active for the algorithm! - RUclips, will remain my MAIN weather chasing (mostly), video sharing platform! - TIKTOK is my main aesthetic/recorded mostly from my phone- video sharing platform! - And I also have Twitter! I post there mostly aesthetic photos, music I like, lists I create in Spotify! I also retweet photo and travel accounts because I like aesthetic photography and travel photography too! I enjoy twitter to be honest!
VERO will not work. VERO is full of photographers, I don’t want to share my work with photographers, I want to share my photography with the common person, I press the shutter and make images for people to admire them, and unfortunately on Instagram is everybody.
RUclips is my main home. Including when I’m not posting. Instagram was a daily thing but I’ve slowed down Vero was something I’d joined years ago but never progressed with it til recently Twitter is an in and off affair for sharing info and gaining ideas FB is a posting point of most of the above I’m oojagapivy everywhere.
I’m still mostly on Instagram but I’ve started on VERO. I have a page on Facebook, a website and a Twitter, but actually I’m not very active on those. Wish to know better what to do and how to use them properly

Thank you 👍
Oh and about Vero,... no thanks. It is too much effort for the same tool
Great content mate. A really interesting analogy your Dad gave and how you applied it to the different platforms. Keep up the great work..
I have Insta/FB, think to use twitter, RUclips, possibly TikTok more.. insta always seems to be changing, does not know who they are, but I have many colleagues there..
I make it a point NOT to listen to Peter McKinnon who started this whole panic.
Thank you
the only problem with instagram is the lack of them paying creators.
Is instagram broken. Because I tried a lot of things but still no result. What's happening. ?
Thanks for this! I've been alternating between instagram, twitter and vero now for photo sharing...I'm also using RUclips for travel vlogs/videos. I probably still use instagram the most though, more so out of habit than anything else lol
I use Facebook, instagram and RUclips, I have a Tiktok however I dont do much on that one
Great advice Jonny.
I'm going to take one or two of the ideas and apply them to my socials.
This video was done really well, great idea that are very helpful. my tiktoks seem to be very random with how well they do. RUclips is a great place for my viewers to see the whole effect that I put in whilst use other platforms for the communication like you said. 👍
The question though is why upload to ig for video when you have RUclips/shorts? Just use RUclips and VERO
I'm using Instagram for staying in touch with my community, RUclips to give them the most value and find clients, TikTok to test stuff, Vero for fun 😁
BTW, I hope to see you there! Come along and say hi :D
As always mate awesome information 👏 👍 Cheers 🍻 mate
Vero has very limited reach for the kind of work I do (street photography), I get way more engagement on Instagram with the same content
Very good ideas thank you! :)
VERO sucks. Too many people thinking it’s all that because a certain bunch of influencers watched a pm video.
Wise words man, wise words!
Well said.
What phone is that a mini?
Yep, shame they discontinued it.
thanx....
Thank you, wonderful explanation and insight of how to transition someone communication effectively.
My pleasure
You should never alow your career to depend on one single app.
Love the investment thinking! The time investment put into Instagram needs to be diversified across other platforms. Good advice for money investments. Good advice for time investments.
Diversification is not a good financial strategy.
I think it’s fair to say diversification represents the same type of security in finance as it does in the examples in the video, regardless of strategy.
Great video once again Johny! You really motivate us and THANK YOU for this!
So, after thinking, after I saw your video:
- VERO is already my main PHOTO POSTING platform and I LOVE IT
- INSTAGRAM will be used for more story posting, while keep admiring the work of the photographers I follow all these years there!
Algorithm slave. Sorry bro 🤣
Why make such an effort on a platform that hates you as a photographer?
All photographer want to move to Vero , but there is no audience there. Customer are not moving there. Stop pushing the Vero hype.
VERO will not work. VERO is full of photographers, I don’t want to share my work with photographers, I want to share my photography with the common person, I press the shutter and make images for people to admire them, and unfortunately on Instagram is everybody.
And IG also got caught collecting data of children in Ireland.
RUclips is my main home. Including when I’m not posting.
Instagram was a daily thing but I’ve slowed down
Vero was something I’d joined years ago but never progressed with it til recently
Twitter is an in and off affair for sharing info and gaining ideas
FB is a posting point of most of the above
I’m oojagapivy everywhere.
I’m still mostly on Instagram but I’ve started on VERO. I have a page on Facebook, a website and a Twitter, but actually I’m not very active on those. Wish to know better what to do and how to use them properly
