Agreed with all, but one minor point of contention: for a client, we decided to do the grid thing (actually a 21 grid) to make the gallery view look like a sort of cool brochure. But we did that once and kept it static: all activity (and thus engagement) comes from stories, some of which we highlight. So we basically design & upload a grid once and ignore it. It’s not the fastest growing account but it works and the client is happy with it.
I have been using Instagram for a couple of years. But only since following you and hearing your thoughts on Instagram have I begun to understand the platform. Thanks .
I have been guilty of the 9 picture grid and it hasn't gained me anything! I do have a question about what kind of Instagram account is best for me (or what account type you should use for your needs)? I suspect that as a singer-songwriter I should go for a Creator Account instead of a Personal or Business Account?
I feel a bit bad having a pop at the 9 grid thing, I was just really triggered by the ad the company targeted me with. Creator or Business should work fine. I use a business, I can't remember why I switched back from creator but there was a reason.
Another great video, I don't think I actually do any of these anyway just natural growth. Going is a bit slow but that's down to myself not being consistent with my engagement as I do have a demanding job and my page is more of a hobby. Keep up the great content Jonny 👍🏼👍🏼
went from 10k followers to 0. starting over after getting out of infantry school for the army. wishing everyone who’s growing their social media a great 2022
Totally agree with all the points you made here. Strangely - and appropriately enough, since we're on the subject of spamming, I got 7 (!!!) updates in a row for this vid. Don't know how that's even possible
Hello Jonny, Another great video, thank you. I’m wondering if you could give us an update on the five hashtag experiment - if you’re still doing it and whether it’s working for you. I don’t know if you remember but around the beginning of 2017 (or was it 18) there were a number of RUclips videos doing the rounds recommending using fewer hashtags. I tried it and my new follower numbers dipped. However, this time it’s much better - Still getting new followers and just as much if not more appreciation for my photos.
Thank you, nothing new to report. If you saw the video where I climb Y Garn, called 'the hashtag update is good' that's still how I feel. I have a video coming that talks about the big picture of followers and why I think it's changing.
Most of these I don't do anyhow as I am trying to provide added value to people. Nevertheless, very good summary and interesting points - Thanks for this video!
Great tips! I always learn something from your videos, keep up the good work. Although I've been avoiding al this things, my reach still trash, honestly i don't even care anymore because nothing seems to work
3:52 Hi there Jonny, i´ve seen that IG spinning watermark logo before, but i don´t get if it´s added on post production or it´s from the app. Could you solve that to me please.
Another great video Johnny. All of the above bugs me too..... I do go through my hashtags also to make sure I've got relevant hashtags. And as for the dms and people advertising on my posts and saying "DM for promotion", I've gotten really good at just ignoring them...... I even message them back and ask them to pay me instead🤣
Amen to everything! I also think people overestimates the value of shares. It's not going to result in that magic boost to their account that people think and hope for. There are no shortcuts. You have to have good content or nothing will happen. Thanks for a great channel. I really enjoy it!
You want some honest feedback? I've been watching your videos since before you hit 10K. First video of yours I watched, I didn't like you. Now you're my favorite RUclipsr on the topic. Why? I think it was because you make content about how to grow as a creator, and I thought that market was oversaturated at first. Then I realized your videos are more objective, straight to the point, and not littered with an overabundance of meme-y, entertaining, personality bullshit like some other influencers out there. You're just a dude giving straight tips. And watching you grow is exciting, because it's proof that your tips work, because you're now above 50K. So good job man. I'll continue watching and implementing your tips. - Navarre
Thanks Navarre, I appreciate that. There will always be a mix here, some straight to the point some more about a story or vlog but they will always amin to be as objective as possible.
If you made a video in the TikTok app, you can screen record it before posting, and then you will only have to crop it a tiny bit, and you're good to go posting it to Instagram. ;)
Great video, another one to add to your list, which is a recent one (so I'm not sure if it is being enforced by IG yet) but do not put your hashtags in the comments section. Hashtags need to be included in the caption with your post. I have always put my hashtags underneath my post in a comment, but apparently now this is a no-no!!!
here's a new one. an account/bot (with 0 posts and no followers) comments on your post telling you to dm the content to a fake account with a million followers.
Hi, Thanks for the video. So my instagram security checkup is still on even though I confirm email and number + changing the password, why it's still on?
I’ve been having this issue where I go to make a reel and am trying to use the typing effect (built into the text feature within Instagram) and I get to a place where im ready to post, I hit next and the app crashes and doesn’t save what I was working on. I’ve had this happen so many times and im not sure if it’s a bug or what. Also, that same feature when it actually posts, has a weird effect where the full block of text appears briefly, then disappears, then starts typing that block of text. Has anyone else experienced either of these two issues? I have reported to Instagram
I almost wish I could start again and only follow whom I wish to communicate with - I try now to only follow people I want to know in my feeds from my groups or my city plus a few International ones. For my Community site for BNW - I honestly only follow people from my city who have a mainly BNW, couple of artists and some of the BNW sites that I tag depending on the photo. Keeps the follower count down but at least I am promoting my city and the Photographers through the appropriate hashtags.
There are some influencer social media coaches who promote the follow/unfollow practice as a fast way to gain followers. Not my style, that is for sure
The Follow/Unfollow thing just drives me nuts, I just find it really inconsiderate. If someone follows me I'll go check out their account and if I like their content I'll follow back which is how engagement should work. If i then get the inevitable unfollow, well surprise surprise Ill unfollow back. I have a tiny follower amount but at least I know that the people following me actually like my content vs artificially inflating the numbers.
A lot of this is great advice for both RUclips and Instagram. 👍🏼 Great video!

Yeah I can get behind that completely.
Loving your videos! Really great tips that aren't run of the mill, but practical and actionable.

"the value comes from you and your work" - love that
Great tips bud!! I hate the follow/unfollow bots.
Great video! It's so annoying when people follow you only to unfollow you the minute you follow them🙄🙄🙄
Another great video, I don't think I actually do any of these anyway just natural growth. Going is a bit slow but that's down to myself not being consistent with my engagement as I do have a demanding job and my page is more of a hobby. Keep up the great content Jonny 👍🏼👍🏼

Good luck with it buddy!
I agree the value does come from you
Good tips and what I hate the most as you said is people copying content from TikTok to Instagram and RUclips shorts 🙄
Totally agree with all the points you made here. Strangely - and appropriately enough, since we're on the subject of spamming, I got 7 (!!!) updates in a row for this vid. Don't know how that's even possible
Haha, I’m glad RUclips is pushing it but that’s a bit much.
Thanks Jonny for great advices and amazing video
Thanks. This is great. Focus o your content is key ! Thanks.
love this - sound advice

This was a very well put together a video and it’s very rare that I watch a whole video great information and thanks please keep the videos coming🙏🏾
Thanks for watching the whole thing Chris, literally the best way to help a RUclipsr these days.
Great tips! I always learn something from your videos, keep up the good work.

I love how you just got straight to the point in this video! Really appreciate it! Keep it up Jonny! :D

It’s the TikTok watermark that is the problem.
Nice video mate! Getting lots of value from your content, thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Honestly I've done the grid 9 photo posts before and now I'm doomed to continue to post 3 times every time I post a photo on my Instagram.
thank you very much love you 😙🤩
Amazing content as always ❤❤
Thank you
Another resourceful video! We love all of your videos and appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
Glad it was helpful mate

Good video this Johnny, I've noticed the gollow/ unfollowings and they stand out instantly as bots straight away
It's a sliding scale, but at it's worst it's annoying.
Great advices! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for a great channel. I really enjoy it!
Yeah I once asked for a share from a near 100k account, nothing happened when they did share.
This is all so on point 🙌🏼
Thanks buddy
7:55 was a great summary and one that I am trying to practice myself, nice video with lots of reasonable guidelines and tips!
Thank you
Thanks for this video.... it's very helpful :-)
Glad it was helpful!
Good stuff 👍

That's interesting, I always put them in caption out of laziness but thanks for the info.

Yeah I hate that
Hi, Thanks for the video. So my instagram security checkup is still on even though I confirm email and number + changing the password, why it's still on?
How did you light your shelves in the background !?
Those are falcon eyes F7s I think.
Great content! Thank you :)
My pleasure!
Number 6 OMG those grids are so irritating 😬
I never understood what all the unfollows were. Thanks for that.
Glad it was helpful
reat video as always dude, wish them spam comments and share begs would stop, I get them everyday and they are tiresome.
Well I'm guilty of that TikTok thing (I did it only once though) but that's because I had no clue it would be bad. Thanks for your advises!
I wouldn't say it's bad, a great TikTok will still entertain but it's not optimal.

Preach!!
Thanks for watching mate
Hi John did you just say Instagram says 5 Hashtags though?
I know right! Tested it in this video ruclips.net/video/M9QXVJpF5s8/видео.html

Do you do one on one reviews of peoples IGs?
I do, you can check out the different options at itsjonnykeeley.com, thanks for watching mate.
When you are so early that there are no Summary comments
Thanks for jumping in so quick
Please I need help on where to sell my instagram account safely
wow love you
Thanks
Welcome
There are some influencer social media coaches who promote the follow/unfollow practice as a fast way to gain followers. Not my style, that is for sure
Not my style either.
Bonus advice: Stop using teal and orange effects on every photograph on your account.
If they are serious about the Tik Tok watermark, Instagram should just go delete them all with the watermark. That will send a message.
#5 I'm so tired of seeing. TikTok and Instagram Reels are 2 Different platforms and people don't get that .
The follow/unfollow thing is completely stupid, a lack of respect and makes me think that the person doing it not a good person.
If it feels icky, it most likely is icky and won't help you long-term.
Good way of looking at it.
What you think about Giveaways in instagram ?
Did a few, felt weird. Kind of had a positive impact but wasn't the magic bullet I thought it was.
thanks, good that I haven't done any of those) Gotta pat myself on the back)
Good job man, The Instagram police got nothing on you!
Hello from Tampa, Florida! Thanks for the Intelligent Talk & Straight Shooting! Like + Subscribed + Notification Bell = I'll Be Watching.
Thanks Jacob, I appreciate it.
Some people using paid pannels for views and likes followers is that good!??
Doesn't sound like it.
I’ve gotten a few unfollows for no apparent reason, This could be the reason
I have a video on unfollows if you want to jump in depth, you'll find it on my videos page.
EH
Hi Jonny, I don’t believe I do any of your “dont’s” and certainly have never bought any likes. Still not clear on the hashtag thing. 👍
hashtag follow for follow just means people in those hashtags are following each other to get their follower number higher.
Oh man I despise those 9 post pics! It’s an instant unfollow 😂
The Follow/Unfollow thing just drives me nuts, I just find it really inconsiderate. If someone follows me I'll go check out their account and if I like their content I'll follow back which is how engagement should work. If i then get the inevitable unfollow, well surprise surprise Ill unfollow back. The fact that you have to make this video with the obvious “don’t dos” is so embarrassing . People are so dumb on that platform
