  • I could not help myself(And believe me I tried) and I picked up a $79.99 Arcade 1UP Collector Cade from Kohls. They also had the Mortal Kombat II But already heard how bad that one was... When Zohar (Console Fan Boy) trashes it....it HAS to be bad...
But how does the Pac-Man fair? well...lets have a look

I'm sure that's the same version of PAC-MAN that's on the 40th Anniversary micro player. It's also on the PAC-MAN Pocket Player, and on the cutting room floor page, it actually details who the developer of the recreation is.

Nice coverage of the product, you hit all the points. As a stand alone product not comparing it to anything else its a fun little device. I imagine these will be purchased as gifts some for decoration more then anything else.

Bit scummy of Arcade 1Up to try and muscle in on Numskull's Quarter Arcades, especially with a clearly inferior product.

Also shady of Arcade 1Up using a My Arcade 40th Anniversary Pacman ROM you can still buy for $40.

    Glen,
It feels like the old days... When I first discovered your channel, because you had the same passion for these smaller arcade recreations. Back before Arcade1up introduced their 3/4 scale sized machines, this Collectorcade would've been a win for me, especially since I would eventually see it's "Glen-formation" into a mini MAME machine replete with Donkey Kong and Crazy Climber :)
Today, for Arcade1up to get me excited for something like this, they'd have to step up their game and stop cutting SO MANY corners just to get something to market. However, I do think Arcade1up got the price point right to compete in this space. They priced it well under companies producing faithful recreations like New Wave Toys and Numskull, while punching just above the weight class of the My Arcades (standard line) and the Tiny Arcades. I guess they're going for the middle denomination section.
The Collectorcade box styling is a direct rip-off (or homage, if you will) of my Numskull Ms. Pac-Man box. This is why it looks so cool. Smart move by Arcade1up to borrow from a company who really knows how to release a quality product and copy it, so their product also looks like something cool. Since this is the case however, I would rather keep the Collectorcade box over the Collectorcade itself :P :)
If Arcade1up came out with this Collectorcade back when I was a kid, or before New Wave Toys or Numskull started making these types of products, I would've been all over it. Since room is a commodity and I'm willing to pay more for quality, Arcade1up's Collectorcade is a hard pass for me. I like that they got it priced right for those looking to have an alternative in the miniature arcade collecting game. I thought these would come come out at around $130 to $150, due to Arcade1up's propensity to overprice their Countercades, but happy they surprised me :)
    Have a great one Glen!

Absolutely great comment as always and yes Arcade1UP is good at copying ideas of not in the quality.....

I picked this up on sale rather expecting I would end up returning it, but somehow I find it rather endearing. It accurately recreates the Arcade1Up almost-but-not-quite and I’m here for it.
Who is something like this for? Well it could be for someone like my wife who collects 1/6 scale…. Or it could simply make for a really great desk decoration.
For me, although I enjoy Pac-Man & Galaga, I don’t play them often, so this works great for me.

Thanks Glen! Seems pretty strange they didn't go with the arcade roms for this. It's not like they take much power to emulate. Calling these collectorcades seems like a stretch but as flawed as they are there is probably a market for this.

⭐️⭐️ Glen, I wish you would have given measurements of the unit & given size comparisons next to the New Wave Toys cabinet & Numbskull, to see how it might fit or sit next to them in a collection.

  • @Rob.Coleman

More of a novelty product than a serious collectable, I don't think New Wave Toys have anything to worry about. But, at least they've priced it sensibly so it should sell well (I've seen this here in the UK for £60 so a similar price)👍.

I prefer these collectorcades over the countercades because they are the full shape of an arcade and still a good size like a hi fi speaker size. 👍

Grrrr. No USB power option is a major reason not to buy this. Some want to line them up like a arcade and power them on as display/play machines in the man cave. The emulations are off most of the time from them. I gutted my full size one and put RETROPI in it. These will bomb.

    • @GlensRetroShow
      @GlensRetroShow  Год назад

Yep only AA for power and not well emulated sound. Visuals are ok.. but again on discount a nice display....until the batteries dies or it forced into sleep mode.

That audio and ui selection sound makes it seem like the hardware is based of the Firecore/AtGames/My Arcade hardware, pretty lame for the price. It would be much better just save up a get a countercade or a full size cabinet.

What a JIP!!!!!! RIP OFF these used the lame as$ My Arcade 40th Anniversary ROM for Pacman (Same sounds, graphics, and gameplay) !!!! The fake button thing is stupid! Thank you for saving me 80 + bucks for games I already have. Galaxian looks and sounds like the My Arcade version. Galaga looks original but drags like the Basic Fun Galaga. Definately a strong PASS!!! Thank you for uploading, most people review the Mortal Combat, but your the only one reviewing the Pacman one!
