It's just easier because I have sensitivity to grains and nightshades and it makes me feel the best. I don't have a problem with calories intake and I hit most all my RDI numbers with food. @@katrienopsomer8012 you are right but wrong. Everything on our planet has life force energry. The difference is when you eat an animal there life force energy leaves with death. When you kill a plant or cut down a tree for a door it will still contain the life force energy. The real problem is The planet is dying and needs major change. Same here. Every time I went to the Dr my blood pressure read high.
She said we need to get you on meds. I had seen my parents go down the med option and needed to be on for life with added meds to control side effects.
I said no! I'm finding an alternative route, to which she said "My dear, you are a ticking time bomb!".
I researched and discovered that a meat rich diet could lead to heart problems.
Went cold Turkey (pardon the pun) and ditched meat products and cheese and butter.
Blood pressure dropped to normal within 3 months.

I am 60 years old and I'm shocked at how healthy I feel and the compliments I receive regarding my health. It's such a surprise to me. I didn't think about my health when I went Vegan and I don't believe that's stupid - I believe that's ethical also take a good look at the number of extremely sick non vegans there are - it's a high percentage so obviously there's something wrong that non vegans are ignoring and laughing off. It's not funny to be sick and obiest and living of pharmaceutical drugs. I do not take any pharmaceutical drugs. I rarely take suppliments. I do use nutrional yeast which has b12 in it. Completely agree. Being vegan is a change in belief - primarily. When people go back to eating meat, they never changed their belief (that abstaining from meat and dairy is actually healthier and better than eating meat and dairy). There is a core belief that must be unshakable. Shallow people try vegan for a while. People that change their beliefs within to the positive and towards more honesty never go back to fear or selfish thinking. That’s REAL growth.

Had been plant based for nearly a decade. Had to acknowledge the dogmatism I had fully been indoctrinated into. Unfortunately had mounting mouth issues, including a rotted out tooth and oral thrush. Digestive issues including abdominal pain (sometimes severe) loose stool, and going 5 times a day. Also depression, anxiety, low energy and concentration issue. I find this video extremely downgrading, most people are having more issues than zits and bloating. To be clear, I love to cook from scratch, more than most. My diet had been full of beans, legumes, lentils, brown rice, tofu, tempeh, sweet potatoes, avocados, lots of leafy greens, morning fruit smoothies, lots of nuts etc... I also just couldn't stand constantly supporting the pharmaceutical industry and justifying my food being flown in from all over the world.

I went vegan 3 years ago, it was supposed to be a challenge I gave myself for a month. During that month, I started researching veganism (everything from animal farming, the environment to health benefits, all the pros and cons) and one evening I just came to the conclusion that from then on I was not going to just stick to the diet for good but actually become 99% vegan (I still eat mussels occasionally but not as keenly as I used to). I'm not vegan for health or for the planet, or for the animals, I'm vegan for all of these reasons combined. It just makes sense.

    • @lyncap99
      @lyncap99 5 лет назад +34

I would think that, too. However, I was a vegan for ethical reasons about 25 years ago or more. Watched a Donahue show with Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz talk about John Robbins' book Diet for a New America which I went and bought and read and became vegan as a result. I was about 30. Went through a pregnancy and a few more years of eating vegan and at some point I started shopping at "health food" stores where they sold "humane" animal products and I began to eat a few here and there and then eventually ate more, but still only from those "humane" sources. Fooling myself I think, forgetting the horror I had read about and seen in videos. I just really lost sight of why I was vegan after a while. Then about 4 years ago as I was recovering from some surgery I was surfing the internet and came across Gary Yurovskys best speech ever (which has changed since then) but when I saw those images again of the calves in the dairy industry I said, no wait, I bawled," Never again!" I can't do this again! I cannot support this cruelty!" and so here I am 4 years later still vegan and planning to remain so for the rest of my life. As many vegans will say, we do the best we can do at any time to cause the least amount of harm to animals. We are not always perfectly able to but we sure try real hard! I'm going to be real honest and say that I know many true vegans who are vegan for the animals, but have eaten an animal product here or there over their many years of not. I know some vegans who still wear their leather shoes they got before they became vegan because they cannot afford new shoes yet....we need to not be too quick to judge others. This is the thing that causes carnivores to not like us. This feeling that we think of ourselves as better than people who eat meat and animal products. People need to be allowed to travel their journey their own way. Also, it is much easier to eat vegan now than it was 27 years ago as far as all the ready made choices and substitutes we have now. I like to be grateful for any time a person chooses to eat/dress less cruelly even if not all the time.

Simon Naylor I see people continuously shaming ex-vegans for not researching enough or not going to enough doctors to look into their symptoms or not eating enough of a particular thing or not taking enough supplements, etc, etc. Shouldn’t the fact that it takes around-the-clock effort, planning, strategy, several months or years of research, numerous supplements, the guidance of health professionals, etc for some people to fully nourish themselves on a vegan diet show that the vegan diet may not be the best natural choice for the human body? What about people in other countries who don’t have access to the variety of plant-based food or supplements? What if people don’t have access to the information you have on knowing exactly what to eat? What if people don’t have health insurance to see doctors when they become sick on vegan diets? If it’s so easy to go malnourished on a vegan diet, it leads me to believe that humans are omnivores after all....I always see vegans saying “It’s not the vegan diet that made you sick, it’s because you didn’t eat this and this and this and that or because you didn’t take these supplements or research that, this and this.” I don’t see people on standard diets going malnourished from making a couple wrong decisions throughout week. It takes little to no effort to nourish myself and my kids on a standard diet. Sure, you can argue that too much meat and fat affects your health and heart, and I would even agree, but not malnourishment. I especially see problems with vegan parents trying to keep their vegan kids nourished and being shamed for giving up when their kids drop too much weight. I see a lot of vegan people in privileged countries trying hard to do all the right things, and then going malnourished and quitting after years of trying. To me, that’s a problem seeing as not all humans have access to the internet or resources that privileged people do. The fact that you have to be strategic and have all these resources in order to not starve, isn’t really showing others that this is the natural way for the human body. I don’t eat a lot of animal products and detest most meats but I don’t have to constantly think hard throughout the day at all and be strategic about my food choices in order not to become malnourished. That speaks volumes to me. On an a standard diet you can afford to skip meals or fast and not feel weak, sick or affected. When I observe friends and family on vegan diets, missing a meal or not abiding by the perfect vegan lifestyle blueprint, they become discolored, easily fatigued and complain of feeling weak or sick. You don’t see that with most actual herbivore animals. Many plant-eating animals can even go days without a food source and don’t need extra supplements to remain healthy or strong. When it comes to humans on vegan diets who are supposedly “herbivores” too, however, they can literally die or become sick from simply not sticking to a specific script... ESPECIALLY growing children. In my humble opinion, it just doesn’t seem like a lifestyle that the majority of population can sustain without your internet guides and an access to a variety of vegetables, nuts, fruits, oils, supplements, etc... especially for people in colder climates, hot or dry climates, poorer countries, counties that don’t participate in international trade of particular goods, villages who only farm a handful of produce or people who simply haven’t run into the research that you’ve encountered in your vegan journey. If so many vegan people have failed while being privileged and living in first world countries with access to so many resources... what does that say for the rest of us in the world who aren’t so privileged and lucky?

Millions of people can do it by using common sense. Vegan isn't a diet.

    • @StefunnyStrange
      @StefunnyStrange 5 лет назад +7

Simon Naylor What a pretentious, condescending response to assume people who have been vegan for several years and give up because of health issues simply don’t have “common sense.” It’s a lot deeper than that. No wonder so many are afraid to be truthful about their health issues because vegans constantly shame people, call them “murderers” or imply they are stupid. My sister’s family went vegan and she and her middle child drastically dropped under weight. She was already a thin woman to begin with and once she became vegan, she couldn’t keep on weight no matter what she tried. She went to nutritionists, vegan doctors, tried many times to manipulate her diet, increased her calories, etc to try to get her and her son’s weight back up. Having to add animal products back to her diet was one of the hardest decisions of her life and she became depressed about it but ultimately had to make a decision for her and her son’s health. It’s seriously disgusting to see so many people shaming others who run into health issues and have to change their lifestyle. It’s sad. My sister won’t even admit to people in the vegan community that she’s no longer vegan and I never understood that until today, going through all these vegan videos. I feel silly because I really didn’t know what she meant and tried to convince her that vegans would be understanding since she and her son are at dangerous weights. But now reading through the comments I know what she means and why she keeps it a secret.

    • @simonnaylor3536

Kam Bizzle You don’t stop being a vegan. Either you believe in principle of contributing to the unnecessary suffering, exploitation, use, harm, and death of animals for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, products, etc or you don’t. If you believe in that, you don’t change. The people who change were not vegan. They are plant based diets. You can’t be an ex-vegan.
If you have a problem with your plant based diet, find out what essential nutrient you are lacking and then get it from a plant-based source. There is nothing in animal products we can’t get from plants, besides things like dietary cholesterol that give us heart disease. Veganism isn’t the problem. People not understanding what vegan means, not understanding they can get every nutrient they need from plants, and people thinking killing exploiting and harming animals is necessary or ok is the problem.

Lmao vegetables and other things that vegans eat require farming, which requires the slaughter of every rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk, snake, turtle, ground hog, raccoon, fox, deer, etc. if these animals were allowed to roam free on these farms, there wouldn’t be any crops to support your bullshit diet. The food you eat is meant for the animals that you don’t eat. You’re supposed to eat the animals that eat the plants that you eat because their bodies are designed to break down and convert nutrients that end up in the muscle, which ends up in your body for nutrition when your eat the meat, and their digestive system removes the toxins that end up in your body when YOU eat the plants. Only animals with multi chambered stomachs are supposed to eat plants. Humans have one stomach. Let the animals eat the plants, and let people eat the animals. It’s how the circle of life was always meant to be. I hate abusive and inhumane animal farming as well, which is why I get my meat from one of the greatest small town farmers in the country. He has the healthiest and happiest animals, and they taste great too!

If I was not in the medical field myself, I would’ve been completely appalled and angry over this blatant show of ignorance from a “so-called” professional. I am very aware of the poor amount of time spent on nutrition doctors receive in medical school, and instead of doing any research they are just as guilty of listening to TOM DICK AND HARRY as the next door neighbor. Dara Berry my 10 year old got her monthly cycle once and then not again for the last 4 months so I know it’s going to start for real soon. I simply fed her more. I know I tend to be hungrier around that time so as a growing kid she has to be hungry. I’m lucky her doctor is great and pretty close to fully plant based himself so he agreed...just feed her more (certain foods of course). Both husbands parents are doctors and said feed her more. My Mom the CNA cried that she needed red meat daily now 🙄 First time I ever argued with my Mom so bad. She accused me of neglect so I accused her of brain damage. My MIL is a doctor first but also secondarily trained extensively in nutrition...my Mom thinks her CNA license makes her the expert 🙄 ignorance still exists. Not sure where my Mom went to nursing school but I’m pretty sure it was same place I went and only a couple years apart...our classes promoted plant based eating so I guess maybe she was absent that semester. Who knows but she has plenty of medical field friends who agree. One even told me feed my daughter liver during her monthly...how many 10 year olds would want to eat a liver? I can’t imagine eating liver being healthy considering the job it performs

Great video. I spent 5 years learning about nutrition and adopting a whole foods diet before veganism was even a possibility on my radar. So when I went vegan I was already eating a balanced diet and taking the correct supplements, and all I did was switch meat to beans, milk to soymilk, and butter to other oils. (I know oil isn't great but I never said I was perfect. I don't use very much oil.) I have had no problems on a vegan diet, and I do not portion control, and still I have gotten leaner but not lost muscle. I'm on my third year. It's not hard, and I DON'T think you need 5 years of research, you just need to understand that you need a wide variety of plant foods including a lot of hearty foods like beans, rice, potatoes, and a few vitamins. (And non-vegans usually need some vitamins too, so don't let this insanely weak excuse stop you.)

If you get off the plant based diet, you can count on getting a very sick body as you go into the second half of your life. Often times you don't know you have heart disease till you have a heart attack; won't know you have kidney disease till you're told you need to go on dialysis. Whatever you feel about animals and the environment, you can count on being sick. Medical intervention and pills won't cure you, but the plant based diet will prevent or even reverse whatever is wrong. The complete plant based diet is the most nutritious way to eat that there is. It's lovely to care about animals, I do, and it's wonderful to care about the environment (I do) but first and foremost... care about yourself.

REALLY? SUGAR?? REFINED CARBS?? When I heard that, I knew this guy is being paid off by some industries to say something so unbelievably stupid. And humans have been eating meat for over 250,000 years. @keto cycler Did you know that in the 70's the sugar companies paid for testing to show the opposite of the bad effects it caused? (Which was irritation of the arteries and heart disease) And they blamed it on meat and fat. Or the dairy industry saying milk and yogurt is good for you while osteoporosis, arthritis and inflammation and other heath problems keep increasing in direct ratio with their increasing consumption? Or that cigarettes are good for you? Or fast is so good for you, that commercials are constantly shown for them? When have we NOT been lied to? Vegan diets are VERY healthy, but flour and sugar, which have increased so much in the last 50 years, coincide directly with the increase cancer and heart diseases and many other illnesses. We did not have these extreme occurrences back in the 40's.50's and 60's. It was after all these sugar and processed flour came about that all this started happening.
The best food for cancer is glucose, made directly from sugar and flour. Also, mankind has been eating meat and saturated fat for 250,000 years. Im sure they didnt have an epidemic of diabetes, cancer & heart disease all this time. In fact they were quite healthy, even back them. Most sickness was of a bacterial or parasitic, just like in many countries now. The real issues of health began when we started using flour and sugar. Its that simple. I'm 58 years old and I'm no longer vegan. I didn't juice at all, I ate a combination of whole and cooked veggies. I ate grains and legumes as well. I started to feel bad physically so I started consuming meat again and almost immediately felt better. I've done my research too and what I've discovered is that you can't get all the nutrients your body needs from just vegetables. You should be able to get all your nutrients from food. If not, something is wrong because we survived for over 2.5 million years without supplements.
Everything destroys the environment. Animals are killed during harvesting of crops, we pollute the air with our cars, we spill chemicals into the ground and water making the polyester sweater you are wearing, and the list goes on.
What you eat is a matter of choice, period. What's good for you, may not be good for others. I think people with good intentions who care for animals and the environment become vegan then when they start feeling sick they realize it's not for them. What's wrong with that? It's their choice.

I wish there was a vegan doctor/nutritionist closer to where I live .... who would actually understand what I need.

Hey Pumpkin, you do not need to become a health nut to be healthy on a vegan diet. Have you seen Ginna Messina's talk here on youtube. "Seven habits of healthy vegans?" She has been vegan for over 20 years and is a registered dietitian. Since I follow her advice I can eat a balanced diet without any issues. She is not extreme in anyway and you still can eat all the things you love. On another note I used to eat much more junk but I noticed when I eat a bowl of oatmeal with some fruit and nuts in the morning I am so motivated to continue this good eating throughout the day. Another thing that has helped me immense to eat more balanced is my electric pressure cooker. Now I don't have to stand in the kitchen for hours to prepare a delicious healthy meal anymore.

My motivation is to drastically lower my cholesterol and impact on the planet. There’s a ton of misinformation to dispel (grains-eat your fiber! You need these plants to get enough calories and nourishment). And theres a lot to learn-getting familiar with many varieties of beans, legumes, grains, and produce. When in doubt, learn from the Asians(and of course other cultures too). Instant Pot and Rice cookers are essential. Batch cook, freeze surplus, buy frozen fruit and veg to save processing and shopping time. Eat a great variety. Make yourself eat more if you lose too much weight. I need to eat 4 meals right now to keep at a healthy BMI especially while keeping all oils at a minimum.

If a hunter found an animal in the wild missing patches of fur, barely able stand, covered in pustules, resembling a leper, would you feed it to your family? Or leave it for the scavenger after you've granted it mercy? The industry won't let you see the animals BECAUSE they know you wouldn't eat it, nor would stand for the treatment!! They DO have something to hide, so HIDE it they do, fiercly. I don't know why it took me so long to put those pieces together.

Tell them what and how much to eat and what vitamins they need to supplement. Give them the specifics. Make meal plans and include the necessary vitamin information and the bioavailability of these vitamins. Show them what works for you. It’s shameful how you talk about people who are suffering. In Japan, everybody knows eating too much of anything is bad. We learned that eating 30 different kinds of ingredients is great, eating vegetable is great, eating until you are 80% full is great, eating fish is healthier than meat, etc. When an all American type guy came to work in my office, he was always eating the same drink and food and leaving his veggies at lunch when they went out to eat. He told me he got tired after a while because everyone kept lecturing him to eat his vegetable. The healthy school lunches in Japan works throughout our lifetime because we are engraved on what kind of food we should be eating. America should start from giving healthy food to children at school. If they are getting crap at home, at least they will get healthy balanced food at school. This will teach them what healthy combination of food is.

Wow your christian friends still don't know that we are all one, connected to each other! I thought they are supposed to be the spiritual ones!

Not all Christians think that way. I became vegan after completing the Daniel Fast. Ask your friends about that story in the Bible, see what they say.

@@drinabooboo The whole dominion over the earth thing seems to hang them up. Discussing veganism with them, the conversations could only go so deep into how animals are sentient, etc. And I remember from having to go to church during my youth how prevalent speciesism is in christianity. Hell, they don't even like catholics.

If we try to argue animals are equal to humans its not going to be easy. Another way to see it is that animals are innocent and didn't harm us in any way, their abilities to suffer is equal to us, and we have no justifiable reason to take their life.

Alice Indeed, we have a duty to care for them, not eat them and a duty to care for the planet. That’s what God wants. We’re destroying the earth and harming the beautiful creatures God created. How is that glorifying God and his creation?

@Karoline i find it funny that a handful of youtubers are representing millions of people who eat plant based, as if their experiences are indicative of any generalizations at all. N = what? 5? For that matter, it is strange there are so few docs advocating WFPB as well. I think youtube is the issue - audiences tend to concentrate around standout channels, whatever the subject. Extrapolating from small numbers is something to avoid.

I've had gut issues since going vegan. I take b12 supplements and I eat a good variety of plants, grains and legumes. I'm going to add eggs and fish for three months and see how it goes. I can't ignore this anymore.

I did go vegan bc of a RUclips video, actually a channel. This channel. Thought I would try it out and WOW a couple of days in a felt so much better. Never turning back. It make me feel better, is good for the environment, and not mistreating animals. Win win win.
